Notifications sound... weird. Read on, please - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried like 3 ROMs so far and all seems to behave the same.
It is like the 0.1 seconds or so (not sure how else to put it) from any (90% of the cases) notification sound is... skipped. For example, the sound in WhatsApp when you send a message... y'all know it, right? It sounds weird, like low volume.
Try sending some messages in WhatsApp. You'll notice like 5 times out of 7 the sound is muffled. Not sure how to freaking explain it, but it's ****ed up !
Same for the ringtone. I use "Girtab", and the first part of the ringtone doesn't play. It's like I have the incremental volume on (although I don't), you know...
Have you noticed this?!
I'll try catching this on video.

It's a known issue and no fix as of yet.

Call voice quality issues.

I have had a lot of people complain to me in last 2 days (since I got the phone) that my voice to them sounds messed up, as if there's some disturbance.
I'm a religious blackberry user, and switched form 8320 (curve) to this one. The speaker quality extrememly sucks.
Is there a patch or an update or something I could use to enhance mic / speaker quality?
Thank you
I am having this same issue...and not all calls are this way. I've tried Mic boost/auto-adjust, but with no impact. I'm hoping a cure is found or I'll be ditching this phone and moving on.....I work on my cell and can't have these sorts of quality issues.

Same here!
I thought the device was bad and had it replaced, but the new one has exactly the same issue. I've been able to make some clear sounding calls, so I'm not sure if its actually a hardware/mic problem, of some kind of disturbance caused by the software processing.
Yes.. I've picked up my diamond yesterday.. and same problem here.. friends describe my voice as somewhat robotic.. not exactly what I expect from a 600 euro phone...
could be a problem with your band.
try calling through gsm only.
How do I do that ?
I'm a newbie on this area (my last phone was actually a nokia 6230...)
please anyone???
i really can't use the phone right now.. and I need it for work..
That's a lot of people with a serious problem. Does anyone not have this problem?
Should be in network settings otherwise have a look through the manual??. Im sure it would be in the manual somewhere.
very serious indeed.. can't find it in my manual.. but im not really an advanced user (yet) so that's my bad i guess..
fact is this phone shouldn't have this problem ofc
Yes, I don't have any problem.
Same problem here, people commenting that it sounds broken up, or through water sometimes.
This is a serious problem, surely testing would have found an issue like this, or am I being a it wishful that this handset was actually tested before launch!!
M.
no problem at all. very good sound quality!
i wonder what ppl are going to complain about next? judging from the posts here i must have the one, the only the greatest htc diamond produced.
i do have a few complains but not even 10% of what i am reading here
damn!at least the color you like? maybe the black is not black enough
Are you getting bad voice quality while using a headset as well or just when using the the handsets microphone?
Also maybe watch where you're fingers are placed, if I'm not mistaken the microphone is under the phone, next to the usb port... so no fingers there while talking

Dude, this isn't whining...its just not working the way it should! Plain and simple. My old QTEK and HTC's all have cristal clear sound compared to this.
Maybe its the localized ROM or something...
Just because you don't experience the same issue doesn't mean everybody else is wrong.

[Q] Laggy in-call sound quality

Hi
Just wanted to know if others experience this too?
when making a phone call, my sound is lagging/blurry/scratching. Sometimes sound like (kind of) a robot.
I live in the city, and signal loss or network change is therefore not an issue.
Just thought it was wierd, but guess it will be fixed with update.
From post #12:
I hoped this was just a software error, but baseband upgrade and custom ROM didn't work. This is how it sounds
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4651820/Stemme 002.amr (starts around 15 sec)
Exact same thing here. Sounds like a loose connection in the speaker. Same city as you, but on 3 instead of TDC. Nothing to do with network, it's either soft-or hardware error in the LG. Let's just hope it's soft
no problem here the sound is perfekt. i have telia
Its a known problem.
I sent the phone back as DOA because of this and few other problems.
Sorry. Forgot to change provide r, I'm on 3 as well...
I hope it's software too. Waiting for better rom from paul before testing...

Thanks for heads up. Looks like it's software error fortunately, so Im more calm now
Found this at Paul's forum.
"Problem solved with the new baseband I think. Haven't noticed any tinny sound effect when in phone - either 2G or 3G connectivity.
It's a shockingly large improvement. Really bad that LG sells the phone with that software because mine was almost unusable in crowds because you had no idea what the other person was saying. Will be keen to jump to newer basebands now if they become available since it's proven it does make a huge difference. At least it's not a reason to NOT buy this phone anymore since it's easily fixable thanks to Paul now "

Hehe, funny to be quoted here, from a thread I started over at MoDaCo. According to my poll there a lot of 2X users experience bad sound.
Like I wrote at MoDaCo - I haven't noticed any weird sound after the baseband flash, so please upgrade and tell me if you also notice an improvement. I'll update the thread accordingly.
Btw, what baseband are you currently on?

If this is truly a hardware issue, don't delay- send it back. Furthermore, be mindful of the replacement you receive. Here is an example of an "ugly" situation that happened between two owners. Be firm & inspect your replacement thoroughly- if it's not in "like-new" condition or has residual data from a previous owner, argue for a brand new 2X.

I think we got quite good policies in Denmark, so I'll probably just get a new one at first But thanks for the advice. Hopefully the next will show up better.
A friend of mine experienced pixel "errors" on his AND his girlfriends, so the next one better be fully functional... I know that TDC provider in Denmark wanted to postpone the release too, because of malfunctioning devices. This was before they ever sold any, and they haven't got them in stock yet
I hoped this was just a software error, but baseband upgrade and custom ROM didn't work. This is how it sounds
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4651820/Stemme 002.amr (starts around 15 sec)
Now I just have to wait for "three" to send it in, and return a new one... if it happens three times, I'll get my mony back, and perhaps go for the SGS2 and hope it gets Tegra2... a shame, such a nice phone otherwise. Hope they make it work, but I hear a lot of complaints *fingers crossed*
EDIT: Damn, just heard of three occasions of the same problem here in Denmark... hope they can fix it
I'm not experiencing any scratchy sounds like you, not even before I upgraded baseband. So I guess it's not all O2X in Denmark that has the problem.
I bought mine through Callme.

The problem has been there all the time for me. Just saying the update didn't work for me, so I guess it is hardware related in my case. There has just been some discussions about wether it is hardware or software related.
The problem doesn't occure on all devices, but some are unlucky. 2 of my friends, which bought it on the release date, as my self, has experienced the same problem.
Also, on mobildebat.dk (danish forum) people complain about having the same problem. Such a shame.
I turned in my phone now, and has to wait for up to 10 days for LG to come up with a solution now Hope it goes faster. If i went down to the store last wednesday, I would hav gotten a new phone right away, due to 14 days return policy. Now I have to use my Nokia N82, damn it's slow
Hi,
I have had the same problems on my week old phone. Scrathy sound, Buzzing sound that both ends can hear and the other end sounding "tinny" or like a robot.
I also had random reboots.
Sent it in to repairs monday, hopefully it won't come back with "no faults found".
MY local Telia shop, where I bought the phone, hadn't heard about the problem from more than 1-2 people. Danish LG customerservice also hadn't heard about it. (This was a week ago.)
BTW: Is it normal for camera area to get very hot during calls? I had that too. Battery time was ok. 1-1½ day of normal use. Heavy wifi/talk/gps = less than a day.
I made a recording of the buzzing sound (starts at around 20secs in.):
dl.dropbox.com/u/4130839/Out_2011_03_27_14-06-29_%2B4550800950.3gp
This buzzing is sometimes so loud you cant hear what ppl are saying, and they have a hard time hearing you too.

Does anyone else get this volume warning after 4.2 update?

Googled this and cant find anyone else with this issue. It's starting to get really annoying. I'm hoping that there is a place somewhere in settings to turn this off.

The problem is that this warning happens at something like 40% volume which is way too quiet to listen to anything with my headphones in. Would be nice if there was a way to turn off the warning.
By the way this only happens when headphones are plugged in, it lets you raise the volume normally when they are disconnected.
I'm guessing is just an EU thing.
I have that warning too... I'm in the US. The warning itself doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that my headphone volume is noticeably quieter since the update. And it does occur around 40%, I thought everyone was getting this.

If everyone is getting this I'm surprised that not many have complained really. The popup is really, really annoying to me.
Sort of reminds me of the epilepsy warning they added to ps3 in an update that you cannot turn off and adds about 5 secs to boot time.
Can't say I've noticed headphones being quieter.

Some people don't have to be spammed with the same information over and over again to get the message.
It would be okay if the message came in at a volume that was dangerous but at the 40% mark its just too quiet to be usable.

Huge delay when receiving calls when screen is off....

I experienced this on any ROM and including stock ROM.
Basically when the screen is off and I get a call...it takes a good 1-2 seconds, after ringer has started, before the screen shows anything at all.
Is this normal? Am I being dumb about this? I've just never had such a delay and it is quite annoying.
I'm getting this too, but it wasn't bad at first. I'm assuming some app is causing the lag.

Yes, an expensive flagship phone with an extremely bloated software.
I mean, as soon as you hear your ring tone you can immediately hit the home button or unlock button if it's that much of a bad thing.
Unless you're sitting and staring at your phone 24/7, you wouldn't even notice this.
Usually your phone stays in your pocket, you get a call and you take it out. *crisis averted lol.
I get what you're saying. Believe me I do. And you're correct about most of the time I won't notice. But that doesn't change the fact that bloated phones previous to this one didn't have this delay. To top it all off I'm debloated. So can't use that as an excuse

You may have debloated your device app wise, but I'm not referring to that. I'm referring to the actual Operating System on the device, aka Touchwiz.
So yes, I am using that as a point of reference.
The OS itself is about 2.5GB, rather on the other hand a pure stock android is about 600MB.
And yes, other "Touchwiz" phones have done this in the past. My Girlfriend's S5 does this and so does my S4.
But guess what?
My Nexus 5 doesnt.
The phone actually turns on before it even starts playing the ringtone.
Stock Android > Touchwiz.
In reality, this is not a problem.
It's software-sided which means it could be fixed IF it was a problem, IMO it's just nit picky. I'm sure they could change this but I'm also sure that a 1-2 second delay will not stop you from picking up your phone call or cause any problems, either way.
If this is a problem, please illustrate one or two downsides because of it, what exactly is the outcome of this *delay* situation that is so problematic?

I can give you one right off the bat. And it's the only one that matters. It's called my opinion. If it never happened before with any phone I've ever had, touchwiz phones included...Then no...it isn't normal and it is a problem. No matter the size of the problem. No matter if you think I'm being picky. Frankly I'm done arguing the fact. If you aren't going to offer a fix, then there is no need for you to reply again.
