Hello guys.
Recently I have stumbled upon this problem - SIM slots for my Moto G (XT 1068) are not working properly.
The problem is that SIM 1 slot rarely accepts any SIM and if it does, it stays registered to network for about a minute maximum. SIM 2 slot is working more often but still not every time the SIM is recognised.
I have tried the stock 4.4.4 and stock 5.0.2 but with no luck. For custom ROMs - I have always installed the Dual SIM module which was also not helping. The SIM card I am using is working, tested on other phones.
Has anyone had the same problem or some valuable information how to fix this (I have considered the fact, that it could be a hardware problem still I have hope that it is not). I have attached a screenshot with SIM Card test, where it shows some kind of error, for what the information was not found.
I'm not familiar with the error but once I had to changed my old sim that worked fine on the old phone but didn't in the new one, I think the contacts were "molded" to the old phone pins and with the new phone it didn't have contact. Solution was to buy a new sim
I had a lot of problems with the sim slots too, they are one of the worse parts of the Moto G. In my case the problems were mechanical, one slot won´t snap or latch anymore and in both slots I had to put the sim cards in various times until the contact was ok. Self cutted sim cards didn´t work.
I solved this with sticking a piece of thin plastic onto the sim cards so when the card is inserted it can´t move anymore.

i have a problem with my diamond. It only reads my sim card, wont read any other sim card that is inserted. It was originally using XOR morna rom, done a new flash and still same problem. Re-flashed with a original HTC rom, but still same problem. I some how think its not a software problem as it has been flashed/hard-reset numerous times.
Any one know what problem can be or if anyone has same problem, with solution
thanks
kerim
Mmmm...
When you say it only reads 'your' SIM card, do you mean it's SIM locked. If you're on vodafone for instance, and you put another vodafone SIM in, does it recognise that? Or do you mean it won't allow any other SIM at all... even if the network's the same?
If it's the first option, your device is obviously SIM locked, if it's the second option, have you installed any security software like Ultimate Theft Alert, or similar, which will also block any other SIMs??
its not sim locked, it was an unbranded phone when i first got it. I am on three and have tried 3 different other three sim cards and also a vodaphone simcard, non of them work.
Its like there is no sim card at all. Im starting to thinbk its a hardware problem not software as i have flashed it few times now with different roms
any ideas, i need to get this working urgently
Mmmm...
Definitely sounds like a hardware issue to me. It's probably time to send it away
Hey Kerm when you put the sim cards does it ask you for for the pin??? or what you could do is see if you can try to clean the sim contact in your phone or run a eraser over the sim card contact and see if there is a difference
had a problem with an unreadable sim-card a few months ago as well; A new sim-card solved my problem... But since you are having trouble with 3 different cards, it might be a hardware problem in your case indeed.
doesnt ask for any pins, as soon as the phone starts up with another sim card inserted, it says no sim card. When it starts up with mu simcard inserted, phone function runs as normal, i can see reception bars etc
I had the same problem when i received my diamond. Tried several sim cards but none was recognized.
I received a new phone because it was a hardware failure.
Sounds like mu has a way of making a new kinda sim lock that only works with there phones ,I would digg a lil deeper and make sure its not a sim lock on your phone
what do you mean by MU, couldnt make it out. How can i find out about if its been sim locked
I'm having a really weird problem with my XDA Stellar, worked fine for over a year and then suddenly it said No SIM inserted.
Took the SIM out, tried it in another phone - it worked ok.
Used a different SIM in my Stellar - it worked.
Put the original SIM back in - no sim card inserted!
Contacted o2 for a replacement SIM
Inserted and it worked - hurray, for about 24 hours!
Now its back to saying no SIM inserted and as before the SIM works in other phones and other SIMs work in the Stellar.
Anyone any ideas what's going on!
Try cleaning the sim card contacts with a rubber & also try putting a bit of paper/thin cardboard behind the sim so it is pushed onto the contacts in the sim holder better.
Have some threads on this, bit of a known issue.
Do a search if you want more details.
Ahh, many thanks Mister B, the piece of paper did the trick!
Hello to all,
before u start saying to search the forum, i did. But havent find solution for my problem so i opened a new thread.
So the problem is that my tytn register some sim cards but some dont, its like a random thing. My old sim card and new one works, now i tried with new sim card but from a nother network, and it says no sim, i try with my old sim from the same network and it works. I tested with about 10 random sim cards and 6 out of 10 works, no matter how old they are and from what network they are. I flashed my phone, tried new roms, cleaned sim card slot, but nothing worked.
If u can help me, i will be verry grateful
P.S: Sorry for my bad english
out of the 10 sims, 6 work...correct? lets call the sims that work numbers "1 through 6" and lets call the sims that don't work numbers "7 through 10".
i would say it is a hardware problem IF AND ONLY IF even one of "1 through 6" STOP working or if even one of "7 through 10" START working.
in other words, it is NOT a hardware problem if "1 through 6" work consistently and "7 through 10" fail consistently.
if you determine that it is a hardware problem, then try inserting a piece of paper behind the sim for an extra tight connection or search for bad/loose "main flex cable" and/or "sim assembly".
if you determine that it is not a hardware problem, search about possible known incompatibilities of the kaiser with certain networks' sim cards.
Thanks for advice...i fixed the problem by bending the metal that holds sim card.
But i still dont get it how that fixed things cause sim cards one that worked they worked every time and othet way around with non working sim cards...but ok... now they all work...
nice to hear your problem is solved!
i believe the sim cards that didn't work were probably just "thinner" than the ones that worked. so bending the metal pushes the thin sim cards tighter against the connectors. inserting a piece of paper behind the sim card has the same effect, and it is one of the first suggestions you will read about in most threads about sim card problems.
anyway, congratulations, and its nice to see that you updated your thread with information that helps "close" the issue...perhaps you can change the title of this thread to indicate that the issue was "SOLVED" so that future readers can benefit from it.
I was overseas travelling and used some different sim cards no problem. But on return, I put my original sim card in, and the xperia z says "sim card inserted, restarting" and restarts, only to display the "no sim card" icon. I've tried a lot of things, and got a new sim card from my carrier because I thought that one might have been broke because I didn't use it in a while, but the new one has the same problem.
I really hope it's not a hardware issue, the phone is older than 1yr, and I didn't buy it in this country. I suspect that it might not be, since it was working fine until I swapped sim cards. Could this be a firmware issue? Any suggestions?
[Edit] It might be worth mentioning that I did a firmware upgrade while overseas without my original sim in.
Since yesterday my phone can't detect both my Sim card. It said no Sim inserted. All the while is working fine. Any solution on this? I'm not using sim adapter. I changed already 2 different Sim card and mostly i only got message new sim card inserted Restart to take effect. But after bit completed it still no Sim detected.
The SIM-slots of the Moto G are a very weak part of the phone, I had problems from the very first day to insert the cards correctly. After a short time the one slot doesn´t snap the card into place anymore, the whole construction is not build precise.
I had a few issues in not detecting the SIM card, after all I sticked a piece of thin plastic (or paper) on the top of the SIM´s to be certain that they stay tight at their places and if I´ve found the exact position everything works. So in my case it was a mechanical problem.
