I don't know if this is allowed but with the tons of roms available for the nexus 6 I am not too sure which one to get.
I would really like one that has Working Wifi Calling, Unlimited Tethering, prefferably 5.1.1, the theme customization of Cyanogenmod where i can change the look of practically everything on it.

Chroma has everything you need but the CM theme engine. However, it is layers compatible. I prefer layers because of some of the negative things I have seen lately regarding the CM theme engine to include security flaws.
Layers is still new so all the theme bugs aren't all ironed out. But as far as I know, it lacks the flaws that CM has.
I'll put in a good word for Benzo, a full-featured, versatile ROM and kernel with everything you could ever wish for in terms of customization. The developer is extremely dedicated and he releases updates frequently. Good support as well. Give it a spin.

But I been running Euphoria OS latest nightly on my phone and enjoy it. I wasn't sure if there were any similar ROMs that have more features.. Plus I'm not sure if WiFi calling works on this ROM with T-Mobile

Here are my beliefs (anyone feel free to correct me):
AOSP is rock solid (usually). It's not the fastest, but that can be fixed. It lacks features.
CM on the other hand isn't the most solid base, but they're very good about fixing bugs. They've got (arguably) one of the largest developer teams working on an aftermarket firmware. They do have more features as well.
What you need to answer is this: How clean of a base do you want to start off with? Do you want to go for AOSP and market it as simple and close to stock with hand-picked features and optimizations? Or do you want to start off with a CM base, having features that are now nearly ubiquitously considered "necessary"?

I've never experienced this, but I can see it happening because of the smaller range of kernels (since it's CAF).

Valid points, I see CyanogenMod being geared as much more developer friendly and extensible, they even have better documentation for AOSP's tools than AOSP does
I want the ROM to be stable and fast, but also ready for customization, where I see AOSP not being very extensible.
So speed and stability is democracy now?
Actually if you are building a ROM from source, you are better off starting with aosp and merging the caf patches then go from there. You can look at patch commits/gerrit to see how to add in the features that you want since the code is normally available to see and will give you what line and all. In the process, you have something to call your own and learn the coding structure and source which is invaluable

cm was fast until about mid 2012. then they just started piling on as much as possible into the rom and it has been slower since. when steve(cyanogen) used to spend much time working on cm kernel, thats when cm was known for speed, back in the beginning and a little after cm started. back then, they werent about feature, more about minimalism. now its all about feature.
AOSP>CM
Always.
At any aspect.
CM has become so low and weak ROM since 2013. In the past it was the fastest and the most non-bull**** custom firmware but now as it's available for so many devices it's become sluggish, slow and the quality doesn't even exist. Another thing against CM is that they decided to use CAF code on Nexus devices. I can't understand it as well as other devs working in Nexus sections. I remember CM7 on my legendary HTC G2. It was so fast and damn feature-filled as for those times. Now it's gone. Formerly, my first thought on custom ROMs was CM, now it's quite different... I am so disappointed with CM nowadays.
Just my opinion tho ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The hell are people knocking caf code for??? It is aosp code with fixes for specific hardware by the people who actually make the hardware, wtf would you not use it for????
As far as cm fast, bwhahahahahaha, it hasn't been fast since about cm4 back on the g1/mytouch when dwang came into the picture. Cm's goal evolved to bleeding edge features and getting on as many devices as possible while dwang was straight aosp Roms with speed and stability as the goal

If you own a nexus CyanogenMod is just as stable if not more so. Latest nightly is flawless.
I actually installed 30/6/2014 Nightly and seems faster to me in some areas, such as animation smoothness.
I was on PA 4.4 Final previously and hadn't touched CM11 for 3+ months.
Both were tested with latest Adreno drivers(June), same kernel, same kernel settings and the same Gapps; only the ROM changed.

Isn't Velocity the ROM that has ART by default? And lots of commits to ART. Still, ART is experimental in KitKat, so in the L release there will be lots of changes. I'd rather use something which doesn't have commits to something experimental(such as ART).
Also, I must note that Velocity has changed the animation to 0,75. This results as being "faster" (because of transition) but it's not. Try testing both @ 1.0 animation speed and see for yourself.

A real test would be turning animations completely off and seeing what's faster. That's where real speed and optimisation can be noticed. 1.0 is just too damn slow.

stock jellybean??? kitkat??
I'm stock unrooted on my n5 so far, running art and no animations. Feels blazingly fast to me. I miss custom Roms for the themes and a couple features they usually include but other than that stock has been almost 100% stable even with art.
I reboot it once every week or two and saw one soft reboot the other day in the couple months I've had it, not sure what caused it.
Still trying to decide if its worth rooting and what ROM to run. I like art which rules out stock with xposed.
I've been a chronic ROM flasher on every phone I've had until this one. It just works so good I'm afraid to mess with it. Especially when I've got warranty.

Sounds interesting. Will have a look. Ubuntu touch looks fun, too. Use it as your daily driver?
Likely going to go for Stock+Xposed (when ART Support finally rolls out) with a few other mods and a Custom Kernel.
That said, if I would be tempted to go for any Custom ROM, it would be only if they offer a Dark theme version to complement the AMOLED display. That said there might be a few existing workarounds that may exist for stock in due time that do not need flashing a whole new ROM for it.
Stock plus exposed of that ever happens. Otherwise I'll try around. my fav was aokp for a couple years
My own
Paranoid with a dark theme ..... Then miui ..... Then dirtyunicorn etc on down the line with some multi boot in there
AOKP or CM, not quite sure yet. Only using CM on my S4 because AOKP support for the device is dead now.

Back in Gnex days there was a rom called Sourcery. BEST EVER! More customizations than you could begin to imagine. Fantasy and Steam punk boot animations and themes. Bunches of custom softkey icons. Inverted gapps. And pretty stable, too. Haven't found anything since that even comes close.
Running Paranoid on my Nexus 7 currently. Hyperdrive on my GS4 at present.
Vanir, FTW!!!
Slim,Carbon,AOKP,Vanir,Beanstalk, etc.
I've been dealing with a locked down Note 3 for the past 12 months. Can't wait to get back on ALL these ROMS. ?
I want to run Carbon, badly. Been enjoying it for a year now on my l900
Unless we get a version of the Moto X 2014 Lollipop running for the 6, I will be staying on stock.
And thats only for Moto Display...
Hopefully AOSP Purity! Awesomeness
Quite literally all of them at least once.
Bring the Swagger!
but really can't decide. I'll probably flip between AOKP, PA, and CM. Been running CM on the OPO for a while so I'm used to it. Time to see what the others have now.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the PA team have multi-window earmarked as their next big project. They implemented this card stack multitasking recent apps function last year (long before Lollipop was released), and they're always coming up with new stuff. PA is always one step ahead imo, and they're easily the most progressive development team around right now.
Hi guys,
I've rooted every phone/tab I've had but just haven't gotten around to rooting my Nexus 6. Can anyone recommend what they believe is the most stable Nexus 6 Rom? Don't want to keep Factory Resetting because a ROM isn't stable to stay unencrypted.
Also, how is CM12? At some point I will flash and stay on CM12 or Paranoid Android but just don't know how stable they are at this point in the development.

all nexus roms are stable, unless a dev really messes compiling one up. all source is available for any nexus device, so no need for hacking. since there isnt any hacking needed, they all should be very stable.
Technically they should all be stable, this is a Nexus device; however some ROMs cram so many features/cherry-picks into them that they deviate from a stable base.
SlimLP is one of the best roms around, and include original development. Features are lacking as they are re-writing most of them for LP.
Rastapop is another great stable AOSP rom, with a few of rascarlos favorite additions.
Terminus by lichti1901 is a great feature filled rom, with stability.
CM12 is decent right now, they are still trying to iron out their base, but some have reported the usual bluetooth issues(god those date back to Kit kat)
VanirRom, found on Google+, is a great stable rom as well, with some great developers.
Flash what you want though, find a rom with features that you think you'll like and I am sure the rom will be stable, again this is a nexus

Was just thinking the same thing. Way too often lately, people on here are posting without searching. Its like the first rule of XDA to search before you post.
Hi all. So, I've had the phone for a few months now. Flashed PureNexus within a week of owning it and I recently got sick of it, after seeing a lot of the cool features that Android N has. After seeing some posts on the /r/Nexus6 subreddit involving CM14, I decided I'd flash that to my Nexus. I've had great experiences with CM in the past with my Galaxy S5 so I figured, why not?
Well, here I am with CM14 and I had an issue earlier with Substratum, the theming engine that everyone's calling the "future of theming!!!" I downloaded a theme for Sub called Divinity and applied all of it, and it asked to reboot because it messed with the system UI. So, of course I rebooted and boom... Started having issues. It was respringing like, constantly. I couldn't even get into Substratum to remove the theme. I couldn't uninstall Substratum. I couldn't turn the phone off (I couldn't access the boot menu without it respringing), I couldn't sit in the settings for more than 10 seconds. So, I just wiped and reflashed CM14. Couldn't figure out what else to do so I just did that. That's a deal breaker for me right there. I shouldn't have to redo my whole phone because a theme messes up. If I missed something and there's a really simple solution to that issue, please share. If not, whatever.
So, what I'm thinking is going to CM13 maybe. It's stable from what I understand, and I'm kinda tired of PureNexus. But what I'm wondering about is this - what is all of the extra stuff that people like to flash alongside of the operating system ROM? I always hear about sound enhancers (something called Viper?) and color enhancers, and special kernels, etc. I'm not very knowledgeable about stuff like this, so I was wondering if someone could take the time to introduce me to this stuff. I'd love sound enhancement! And screen enhancement!
Lastly - I'm a big themer. I get bored of my phone's look quickly. Could someone tell me what the difference between all of these theme engines are? And do all work with all ROMs? So like could I install Layers on to this CM14 ROM and load an old theme onto it or would it break the hell out of everything? I hear about all of these theme engines and I don't know the difference or pros or cons. Layers, Samsung Themes, Cyanogenmod themes, Substratum, etc.
Thanks! I would really appreciate it if someone could take the time to answer some of my questions.
-isra
Well for starters, the CM 14 ROM you installed was unofficial and wasn't released by the CyanogenMod team so support for Substratum would obviously be not fully supported as the rom is maintained by some other third party.
As for Pure Nexus, why do you not like it so much? I've been running it for as long as I can remember and I love it. Substratum seems to be stable as well

Ahh, someone replied!! Thank you so much!
So, let me get this straight - Substratum will NOT work with the CM14 unofficial ROM at this time? What theming engine would? The issue I see here is that the base of the phone is 7.0, and CM13, Layers, Themes, etc. are all for 6.x.x or 5.x.x. Thus, doesn't that mean that the themes for all of those engines WON'T work for this CM14 build? Because it's 7.0? Or am I wrong? Because if I'm wrong and it will apply 6.0.1 themes, I'm going back to CM14 right away and throwing a CM13 theme on.
PureNexus was... Boring? I guess. I want Multiwindow. I want 7.0 I guess. I dunno. I just wanted to try something different. I absolutely freaking LOVE CM13 on my old Galaxy S5 (which basically functions as a strictly media usage device at this point - it has no cellular access). It's super snappy, smooth, battery on it is INCREDIBLE, no issues whatsoever. With PureNexus I had a lot of video playback issues and camera issues. Whenever I would play a video not on youtube (as in in a browser) the video would go nuts after a few minutes. The image would distort and turn into these color stripes. And sometimes youtube videos would freeze the video, but the audio would continue, and I'd have to rewind to get it going again. This happened in the HBO GO app occasionally too.
I guess it was just a lot of minor gripes with PureNexus, and I also get bored quickly. I've been with PureNexus for multiple months now and wanted something fresh and new.
Thanks again for replying. Hopefully you choose to do so again

Keep in mind Android 7.0 hasn't been released for the Nexus 6 yet, so anything on that firmware will be unsupported as I'm sure developers haven't updated anything for it yet. I would suggest to hold off on these 7.0 ROMS and wait for the official factory image to be released for 7.0 to be released. Afterwards you can go to stock and wait for substratum to be added as an add-on.
Otherwise, wait for an official cyanogenmod release from the team or when PureNexus updates, your problems might've been fixed by then.

Ah, ok! Thank you. So basically I am limited to the CMTE and Substratum for the CM14 unofficial ROM, and CMTE isn't integrated yet, and Substratum is barely working. Got it. So theming isn't happening unless I do a LOT of experimentation. I'll save that for a rainy day then, or wait for some sort of official release. I really want to mess with CM14 more... I wonder if MultiROM supports it somehow. Or I could mess with it in RemixOS or whatever the android virtualbox is called for Windows.
Thank you for helping me. What do you do with your nexus, if you don't mind me asking? PureNexus?

With the announcement that CyanogenMod is dead. Are there any "unofficial" ROMs based on CM or AOSP for our TMO Note 4's in active development? I was running the official CM 12.1 roms for the Note 4 although minimal developemnt in the last year or so it was stable and was still getting the monthly security patches. I just discovered the CM14.1 ROM for the Note 4 over in the Verizon Note 4 forums last week.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/cyanogenmod-14-1-t3495231
Ive been using this one for about a week, few minor issues but nothing stopping me from using it as a daily driver. but it was just announced that development will stop on it due to CM being dead now.
For anyone that was unaware of that ROM there you go. Probably the biggest issue I've found sofar with it is GPS doesn't work. So if you need to be able to use navigation it's not a ROM for you. Cellular based location still works so things like weather based on location. Checking In on social media are OK. Also can't video record in 4k but 1080p and everything else camera wise seems ok
I'm pretty much looking for something providing the plan vanilla android experience with minimal customization. Similar to the official CM ROMs preferability nougat based since I've just had a taste of it.
I am not looking for modified carrier ROMs or highly customized CM or AOSP ROMs. I'd rather customize myself.
Hopefully this thread can become a list of these ROMs in development either on this forum or others that we can all explore.

Would love to see a list as well. Also, what minor issues are you having with that rom? Just about to flash it, coming from CM Remix.
Thus far the only issues I've noticed is no GPS, no 4K recording. 1080p max. The google camera doesn't work. The included camera works as well as that snap camera included in the CMRemix ROM. However you cannot use the flash in the snap cam. The camera will crash and your flash will be stuck on till you reboot. I've noticed more force closures with random apps. Might happen once or twice per day vs using the official CM12.1 ROM where I might have seen something like that once or twice a week. I cant say if that is related to the ROM or individual apps having issues with Android N period since its so new

GPS works fine for me on the 12/25 build. Try that one.
Are you absolutely sure you are getting a GPS lock and not just being located based on WiFi/cell? I'm running the 12/25 build as well and I cannot get a GPS lock using a few of the GPS testing apps in the play store. I didn't even notice the GPS issue since location based on WiFi and cell works pretty good. However when I tried to get turn by turn directions with google maps it wouldn't work that's when I noticed using some of those GPS testing apps.
If it is working for you, what bootloader/radio ROM are you on? I'm using EPJ2 here.
Does anyone know if there is a working port of MIUI 8 for our t mobile note 4. I just recently installed it on my HTC one m8 and I love it and the battery life is amazing. I think it would be amazing if we had a working version on our Note 4
