Lost space, how to recover - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I was trying to transfer a rather large file, but it kept failing. Now I have a few GBs of space that has disappeared both on my internal and external card. How do I recover it?

For external, you can connect it to pc and do a disk check.
I mean remove from phone and connect t pc using an adapter..
For internal, idk..

I use SD Maid Pro.

Nope to both.

Check in your external and internal sd for a folder called ".mtp" and see if the file is there multiple times, i had the same issue, for some reason it stores a temporary version in that folder and doesnt delete it, so clear out that folder if it exists.

It depends from app to app. some app are coded that way that they cannot be moved from phone to usb like banking app and few other apps. some games are automatically downloaded to your usb memory and some apps can be moved as well.
please specify which app you are not able to move and i'll check that.
did you find any solution? because I am unable to move too. the button says move to usb storage. but usb storage is not there.

Sorry sorry it says move to sd card. But there's no sd card inserted. There should be a dedicated button to move to the 16 gb storage.
The 16gb in built storage is referred to as sd card.

That's the problem. I cannot use this option. It says unable to move app. Not enough storage space.

So are you saying when first installing the app it's saying no storage space or when you're transferring it to sd card there's not enough space? Two different things.

when I want to transfer the app then it says no space. I have 8 gb free in storage and around 1 gb internal memory free
What rom are you on? If on jb, try transferring the app to sd using application manager, see if that works. If it still complains it's because you have residual odex files left over from previous uninstall or other expired data files and there are threads on how to remove them.

I have stock jb rom 4.1.2
I am trying using application manager, the app2sd also diverts to the default app manager.
In the application manager, what's the status of the move to sd card button? Is it greyed out or click able? If is greyed out, you will need to use root and TB to move then to sd card.

it's clickable, I can click it but it gives error
I am having the same problem.
I did a fresh factory reset (STOCK JB 4.1.2) and format USB Storage because my Note was becoming unreasonably slow. Needless to say, it's lightning fast now, but as I begin installing apps and internal memory starts decreasing, I want to move apps to the internal SD card (USB Storage) which currently has 11gb free. When trying to move I get "Unable to move app. Not enough storage space". How is this possible?
I do NOT want to use an external SD Card, as the phone starts getting slow whenever anything is downloading to it. Even when updating apps it starts getting stupidly slow to do ANYTHING! Rooting is also NOT an option.
I'm incluing some images to give a better perspective.

sim card question (yes, I know where it is:) )

on my s3, my music and pics were on the card, so, no worries whenI had to factory reset. I did my phone a few days ago and checked my stuff, and everything was gone. I may just be completely brain dead, but where the heck do I look to see my card, not physically, but through my phone settings. when I eject and then put the card back in it says card error (or something likethat). please forgive me if this is a silly question, I still carrythe noob title.
Ya your sim card doesn't hold music. On your s3 it was in the external SD card. We don't have one of those, you can look at your built in internal SD card by opening the lg file manager and click all files, then internal storage

oh, okay. thanks for the fast response!

Best thing to do is make a back up on your PC of all your data, music, pics, if rooted, your apks , etc., so when you do have to factory reset you can just dump that file back onto your internal SD card (not really an SD card, really just internal memory) so that you have all your stuff again. You can even backup desktop / home screen config to the internal and then to PC and restore it as well.

[Q][HD+] CM11 eMMC shows drastic reduce in internal storage total size?

I recently set up a friend of mine with CM11, installed to eMMC, on their 32GB HD+. However, they complain that their internal storage has shrunk to about 2GB. How can I get the other space back? I know some space is eaten by a factory reset image and the OS itself, but there should still be far more space than that.

What do they mean by internal storage? And how are they determining it is only 2GB? When you set up CM11 for them, did you factory reset and delete all the media files they had stored on /sdcard?

It seems they left out a few of the details when they called originally. The internal storage actually shows 27GB total but 2GB available.
A simple wipe should fix that, as you mention.
They report that they can't load files to their external SD card over MTP because it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer, though. Is this a CM11 problem in particular (it recognizes there's an SD card plugged in at least)?

It's not obvious, but under Settings > Storage, in the upper right, there are 3 vertical dots that are a drop down menu. When you tap it, it says "USB computer connection." Make sure MTP is enabled.

App to format 64Gb Micro SD card?

Is there such an app? I want to format my 64Gb card so that twrp will recognize the files on it..I don't have a cars reader on my desktop computer or I would do it with software on computer...has to be able to format fat32..thanks friends.

You don't need an app to reformat your card. The best thing to do is this:
Put the SD card in your phone -> Settings -> Storage -> Format Card.
I believe it is always best to format your SD's in your phone so that you can ensure it is exactly what the phone wants and likes.
:good:

Thanks for the reply but in order for twrp to recognize the files on a 64Gb Micro SD you have to format to fat 32..I tried the way you suggested but still not working..twrp will open folders but doesn't see the files inside even though there are zip files inside...Rome. .backups etc.

Hmm that's strange. You may just need to reformat it via your computer to Fat32 then. However, once you're finished with all that you're trying to accomplish, make sure to reformat it inside your phone.

yeah, I was hoping that there was an app to do it because I dont have a card reader in my desktop..looks like I may just have to buy a reader. Ill post back afterwards with the results. Thank you!
In use use guiformat

You don't need a card reader. Just put it in your phone and hook up the phone to the PC. The Note 4 is your card reader.

I just got a new 64GB sd card, formatted it with settings>storage>sd card>format, and twrp reads it fine. Did u fix rw permissions in /etc/permissions/protocol.xml?
