Hold volume button to turn on flash light? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I did this with galaxy s4, I believe by xposed. Do I also need exposed for note 4. If you can provide the module that'll be great. Btw how stable is xposed for 5.0.1?

Use unofficial xposed for note 4.
Not sure which module.
Here are people talking about xposed on note 4

Xposed Additions has got you covered there - you can remap any button or button combo to do anything you want. It also separates the mapping functions depending on if your screen is off, at the lockscreen, or unlocked... for ex. I have home+vol down mapped to flashlight when the screen is off :good:
There's been a lot of discussion lately about Xposed causing a big performance hit on 5.01... however I really haven't noticed any problems with performance during any actual usage, only benchmarks. It would be a stretch to call it "stable" (it is alpha software after all) but it hasn't caused any major problems so in my case at least, it's "stable enough"

I'm not at all familiar yet with Tasker or IFTTT. By any chance can you make your volume button turn on/off the flashlight with either tasker or IFTTT or a combination of the two. Or for that matter is there any way to do this with any app or combination of apps. I ask because it sounds like a convenient little shortcut and I'm NOT rooted.
Thanks for any advice.

Slide to wake app? I like pressing the power button

Hello guys,
Do you know if theire is an app for waking up the nexus just by tapping or sliding on the back screen? Such app exist for thé galaxy nexus.
Thanks

Your title contradicts itself. You want to tap your phone to wake it.. But also like pressing the power button? Did you mean you "don't" like pressing the power button?
Tap to wake exists but it has to be baked into the kernel and it's really useless (imo).
The `feature' works by basically keeping the screen in a powered state.. Kernels that support this feature (which is becoming less and less and less) usually set it on a 15-45 second timer... You have X amount of time after putting your phone to sleep that touch to wake will work.. After that time elapses your screen is fully powered off and touch to wake will no longer work. If this feature existed 24/7 you'd be going through batteries like crazy.
Hum ok dude thx for that answer, I want this function but il like more battery life...
Do you know any app waking the screen by capting motion with the camera? Or using any other sensors available on the nexus for doing so?

tbh not sure. I imagine someone could use the proximity sensor (which I don't think the N7 even has) but using that would cause so many false wakes by sliding it in and out of cases, etc it would also be useless.
Your only solution with the N7 is wearing a magnetic glove and waving your hand across the bottom left of the unit.
Yeah or by implementing a magnet on one of my finger... I don't find the accès to the power button very easy thought

That's not necessarily so. PGM on the Nexus doesn't appear to work like that at all, though since it's proprietary, we don't know exactly how it works. It certainly doesn't chew up any more juice on my Gnex, nor does it cause wakelocks.
showp1984 is working on something similar for his N7 bricked kernel.

Gotcha, if that is your problem you could always use a ROM that has volume wake.. AOKP does for sure, CM10 does I believe (someone confirm) and probably others.. Enabling it will let you wake the phone using the power button or the volume rocker.. This will obviously will interfere with anything allowing you to use the volume rocker to advanced to the next song etc while the phone is asleep. This way you basically have 3 buttons to wake up the phone instead of finding `the one'.

Interesting. Learn something new every day. :good: I stand corrected
I would also like a slide to wake. Having it on my galaxy Nexus means I try it on my 7 about once a day.

Thx again I was using AOKP but not this function. I gonna try it

Nice username.
Yeah, the One has a very stiff button, so you're going to get almost no tactile feedback when you press it. That's how it's supposed to be. If you don't like it though, there are several mods floating around this forum on ways you can raise its profile (like painting on clear nail polish).
Or just bypass it almost completely and use the modified kernels for slide to wake or double tap to wake. There's also a few other long press options too. At least that way you only use then power button to turn on and off the phone.
There also appear to be options for turning screen off through the eqs, although I haven't been able to get those to work for me. Sweep2wake/sweep2sleep is awesome. Also a great little show off for your non rooted friends!

KitKat and the Spen. Touch wiz alternatives?

Hi everyone, got a Note, installed Omni KitKat nightly and I'm as happy as a puppy. Only grief is that I'm missing all the spen candy. I know it needs the touchwiz framework and strongly doubt if Samsung is ever gonna grant us with a KitKat ROM for note 1, so here's the question: Is there any work in progress or any workaround to regain some spen functionality in KitKat? We could start by replacing that ugly cursor with something more phablet friendly.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 4
Hmm seems nobody is using their spens anymore...
I like the way kitkat is going but if any dev is reading this id like to know what to expect concerning these missing features:
1 - spen specific functions and airview like option. It could be implemented from when samsung update the note 3 to 4.4
2 - video calling over 3g (i.e. over regular phone)
3 - multiwindow, though i think its already in the works
4 - handwriting recognition
Mind you this is not a request for an ETA, just if these features will be available on the note1 under kitkat.
Thanks in advance and if you have other features in mind please share. :-

Also, what about hdmi via mhl? Again, no request for eta, just enquiring if these features will ever be available on kitkat. Thanks

This thread reminds me of my days in solitary confinement. Always talking to myself... Anyway, i think the feature i miss the most is actually video calls over 3g. Wonder if it's dialer app specific or there is more to it. I'll try different dialers and let - myself- know
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 4
Most of the features you are taking about are Samsung implemented features.
- Calls over 3G can be done using any 3rd party app.
- even mhl is proprietary to Samsung.
- If air view and all were to be implemented on AOSP&CM based roms, wouldn't it have been already done as it was there in Samsung 4.1.2. So why to wait for 4.4? Most of these roms are not specifically made for stylus phones.
- Multi-window does work. Still under development. Although there are a lot of floating MW options.
- About handwriting recognition, it's used in Samsung keyboard. Again Samsung.. If you just want recognition, there are apps to do that.
You say it's not a ETA thread but keep updating it with your own posts every day. If you asked this to any Dev, why not wait for one to read and answer?
Made some progress with spen on kitkat. Fortunately that ugly cursor was ditched in the latest nightly and with gmd gestures app and gnote (from the forums) the spen is almost useful again. Also i find the swype like feature in SwiftKey much more convenient than handwriting recognition. Keep you updated with my progress. @nokiamodeln91 3rd party dialers offer video over data connection. I need the umts/3g implementation of video calling. Thanks for your input though.

I Too would like SPen funtionality
I just installed KitKat Verizon Note2. I bought my Galaxy Nexusin '11 only to be dumped by Google, now with my Note2 that I really love, hear that I have to wait until next year sometime, if even then. I would really like some love for the Note2 SPen functions in the KitKat build.
Thanks to everyone working on these builds.
@stargazin I'm hearing that spen gestures have been implemented in latest omni nightly (12/12), waiting for download to finish...

Please let me know how this works for you, and possibly a link to the ROM. I am really missing my pen functionality and apps.

The implementation is basic right now, swiping left right up and down plus double tap can be assigned to apps or soft keys. It's still to be developed, for now I'm using GMD spen control which is much more flexible. The rom is omni kitkat nightly 12/12. Take the time to read the OP on how to install the rom. I'm using GMD as well, and Handwrite too. I would like to see the whole Note 3 SPen functions brought to the KitKat. There is a lot of cool stuff there. Some of the MotoX functions as well. My friend just received his Moto, and rubbing it in my face with all the hands free functions, talking to his phone while it is just sitting on the desk idle, screen off. That is cool. If I had any idea on how to program, I would try to figure this out.
Being over 50 now, and trying to learn all the new programming the young guys are doing, I'm impressed. Kudos to all of you out there tackling this.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are looking for. But, just in case. Look at MCR Modpack. While it doesn't alter the normal boot menu. It does add boot options to the notification bar. It isn't as elegant as long press on the power button. But it only takes 2 swipes and 2 taps to get to it. Imho it isn't that much more trouble.
Xposed APM+
Try Xposed with APM + read the xposed thread very carefully and take the extra 10 min of your time to make sure its clear for you will make your life that much easier.
I am on stock root and have achieved advanced power menu. Good Luck.

Going back to note 4 :) Been some time Have Rom questions

Been on all the new phones s7 and note 5 for while now... switching back to note 4 today
Hoping for the sake of skipping going through each rom that someone can narrow down what's the Go Too Rom of choice that is current and based on 6.0.1 and has the most tweaks and mods incorporated
Been few years for me since I flahshed on a note 4.
And one curious question has there ever been a finger scan tweak that now allows to just touch the home button on a note 4 to unlock rather then swipe down method that was always hopeless
Thanks in advance xda.

I am using a ported Note 7 rom called Note4UXedge_v10 and I love it. It is perfectly debloated and air command fully works too. It is using the systemless root method and runs very smoothly. It doesn't have any tether hacks but you can install Xposed and use the motoxtether module for perfect native tethering. You'll want to look for the [Unofficial] Xposed by Wanam for the Note 4. I subscribed to your thread in case you have more questions or need help getting it all set up just right.
