I looked though the forums and saw a LOT of questions with a LOT of answers saying No out of luck. But, I just bought an AT&T unlocked phone using it in Barbados where I am with my carrier. It's on stock 4.4.2 yet towelroot says it's not supported.
I read about having to flash something with odin. and bringing it down a bit in order to obtain root. Can anyone link me to the thread that has the information relevant to this question?
Sorry if it's been asked a lot, but I just saw a LOT of 5.0 threads not 4.4.2 that are not supported.
Also not new to rooting I had a HTC Vivid and a Kindle Fire HDX rooted. So I have a bit of knowledge on the topic.

Go to the OP and download the "downgrade to nce.tar" flash with odin in the ap slot then root with towel root. Use either safestrap or Flashfire for custom recovery. You can not use twrp or cwm cause of the locked bootloader.
Edit: the link is for the galaxy s5 not the s5 active.
Excellent. Great find. Thanked. Fast reply also.
Me again. So I'm here trying to find a way to get to 5.0 and keep root. Read a thread somewhere on here about using flashfire. I understand it I think only thing is when I go to play store to get the flashfire root version...
It's not available in my country and I can't find the apk otherwise anywhere.
What options do I have?

Did you read and follow step 1 and 2 in the OP of the thread that i posted to you. If you follow those directions you will get Flashfire.
try here http://uploaded.net/file/zqe4yys4
Had a parsing package error with your file. I found the previous version and used it. Worked flawlessly.
I love the instructions on XDA. Devs are great.
Thanks again.
I guess this will be a good start for others like me.

Yeah thanks I figured out I am on NG3 and I tryed last nite, did follow a tutorial, and then i used root checker, and it said my device was not rooted. SO Im not sure what is going on.
I Install the ND3 File, Then do root. I then use root checker and it says Im rooted. I then Install the NG3 file and then check if Im rooted,. and it says Im rooted.
Then Download SuperSU from Playstore and Upgrade to Pro and then use rootchecker and it states Im not Rooted. Is the phone still rooted? Or am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: Got it working now. Thanks again

I'm a complete neophyte at this entire process so please excuse my ignorance. I want to root my AT&T Galaxy S5. I tried the Towelroot, but I got the phone is not supported message as well. My question is what on earth is NG3 and how do I proceed from here? I have Odin 3.1, I just don't know what to do with it. Help...

First of all you'll need to read here

NG3 the official AT&T build that patched towelroot that's why that apk doesn't work any longer. Your device can be rooted using @muniz_ri thread I posted.
I personally use Odin 3.09
Please read a lot more and take your time in the two threads I posted so you don't make your device a very expensive paperweight.
Hi all,
sorry if this question has been asked to death, but I've looked at the majority of guides I can find both here and elsewhere, and some of the information seems contradictory and I want to avoid bricking my device.
As of 2015, how can I root the I9305?
The phone is running Android 4.3.
A couple of people have said Knox was an issue, but I've checked on the phone, and when I go into the Knox app from my app drawer, it gives me a screen asking me to install it, and nothing else, so I'm not too sure if that would be a problem, although I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Again, sorry if this has been asked before, and thanks for any help!
Bumping..
Can anyone just confirm whether the Chainfire method still works, or am I better off going with the Unified android toolkit method?
First you should upgrade to 4.4.4.
For me cf-auto-root-m3-m3zh-gti9305.zip rooting method worked well. Uploaded it with Odin3-v3.07.exe.
Update supersu to get past Knox.
I had issues with cwm so use twrp instead.
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-f2fs-i9305.tar

It seems that I have root for...most...intents and purposes, but not when it come to things like xposed or next app so fix. Now I'm running 1.4.4.B.0.37 On Xperia Z1s. Rooted using flash tool, note... Does seem to freeze at the reboot part when it tries to install busybox so I manually install from marke. I had root for awhile then saw on xda that you could "proper" root by updating threw ota. Tried and failed multiple times. I have a screenshot of the error from xposed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Figured Out
Well, i never gave up and figured out the problem. Even though i had the newest version through OTA, it did me no good to revert back to last version since thats the version you have to "proper" root. Sooo, i downgraded...again...to stock (C6916_14.2.C.0.159_TMobile.ftf) then rooted and it worked. doing installs and checking as i type but so far viper4android and xposed are g2g. now to upgrade to next version (C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf) for "proper" root. thanks and glad if i could help others with same problem. I think i will post a guide for z1s so others (seems to be alot of us) can have noob friendly guide. :highfive:
starting my guide...
I am starting my guide and wanted to know if there should be a specific area i should post it? Is the correct place here in the Q&A area? or in the Development area?
Hello,
Since I did not see very many threads related to rooting the Google Nexus 6, I figured I had better post a question before attempting this. Is there any reasons why there a few threads about rooting the Google Nexus 6? I recently purchased the Nexus 6 in anticipation for Project Fi (not yet received approval) and would like to root my phone which has the following settings:
- Android Version = 5.1.1
- Build LMY48I
- Kernal version 3.10.40-geec2459
- Baseband version = MDM9625_104446.01.02.101R
The only link I find on Google related to rooting my specific build number is:
http://trueandroid.com/how-to-root-nexus-6-on-official-android-5-1-1-lollipop-lmy48i/
Thanks in advance!

tberes only a few threads on rooting a nexus because all nexus are rooted the same way. ill go over quickly what needs to be done..
1. unlock the bootloader using fastboot while you are in your bootloader.
2. fastboot flash twrp recovery.
3. dlash the latest supersu in your new twrp recovery.
4. reboot with root.
theres always ways to gain root using root toolboxes as well, but i dont ever recommend using one for a first time rooter. they do root your device, but they are not quicker, and they mess up often. problem is if it messes up, you will think that your device is bricked, because you dont learn anything using a root toolbox. by rooting properly, you learn to fix things yourself as well.

Thank you for this... that explained the lack of threads. Is there a recommended like on this forum that explains the root method for Nexus devices?

I need some help rooting my phone. I dont think I can use PingPong root because I have a base version of G920AUCU2AOF3, and I don't think it's supported yet. I only know of one other way to root and its Here. I cant figure out if I can root and not trip KNOX or anything else. Can I root with this without any repercussions or is there another way to root that is safe?
You need to search the forum, this has been asked many times before.

The answers to all your questions have already been answered. Effective search techniques, which you apparently lack, would find them. But I will spoonfeed you the answer and further clutter the forum, making it more difficult for others to search.
If you are on unrooted OF3 or OF4 on an AT&T device, you cannot root now, and you cannot revert to an older build. You will have to wait for a new root exploit to be found. Or return your device and buy an international one with unlocked bootloader.
I read threads that say you can't but they were older. If a question is asked multiple time, to fix your problem, maybe a stickied thread is needed.... Just a thought.
