Note this will only bluetooth pair, *not* gear manager connect. I know, limited use, but perhaps this step might help some other dev move forward in creating compatibility with other devices than samsung (especially those who don't have one, like me!
1. Build and install this app: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14228289/android-device-bluetooth-pairing (or any app that can unpair / remove bonds)
2. Use it to unpair with your current gear manager device (click on the device in the list in the app, it should remove it)
3. Now, pair with your non samsung device
4. Should now pair without resetting
another approach
1. Pair and reset with another non samsung device. It will pair but that's it.
2. Pair with your Samsung Device (or go to the store and pair with a demo model)
3. Your device should still be paired with your non samsung device
For people who are trying gear manager connect via another device, there has been some success by installing all of the accessory APKs here:
http://www.mediafire.com/folder/iej2...Android43)_All
And then trying to connect. Note how it goes from 0/19 folders to 0/2 or so.
Another approach suggested: (hat tip jtuzyk : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488516, reported to work with HTC One and Moto X)
Using another method i came across i was able to pair with HTC one, answer calls and use watch styler
1. Install Galaxy Gear APK manually
2. When Galaxy Gear App opens it tries to install 0/19 files it will restart and say 0/18
3. When it says 0/18, locate "GEAR" folder on SDCARD, inside it will create another APK. Manually install this apk.
4. Close Gear App and Repeat Process, i got all the way down to 0/8 (Music service apk fails) but the Gear is still usable for calls.

Anyways, let us know your success and failures and what platform / version of os you tried it on. Any information you provide can be helpful.
Tried it on various apple products, and it works! And by it, I mean only the dialer, and the watch speakerphone.

Yeah, that Bluetooth headset part is the only part that works without the gear manager (works like a standard Bluetooth headset)
as title, I have just installed wondershare on my pc and sideloaded mx player, angry birds and a couple of other apk files. my watch and phone (s4) are both stock unrooted and running the latest gear manager and watch software.
now after about 5 minutes I get a notification on the gear that it has disconnected from the phone and the sideloaded apks have gone. they still show up on wondershare but have to be uninstalled and reinstalled to show on the gear.
The installed apps work fine after installing them, and I didnt I have this issue when I 1st played with it at Christmas on my wondershare trial , but the trail ran out and I updated things.
So is this a problem with the gear manager software? or the gear itself? or me?
Use an older version of gear manager

hi ,
first ,it is not a Wondershare "problem "but i think its just "Sammy" that not to happy to let us sideload on Gear ??
As this issue with apps, worked 100% on previous rom and Gear Manager software untill a" few " versions" back .
yes ,i have same problem ( using rom NA6 and Gear Manager v1.6.132701 )
but it does not worry me ,as i know apps are working ..etc
i use a workaround , Thus having benefits of latest software /ROM and gear manager (unless its really buggy )
if you want to ,all you have to do is reboot Gear and if you look in 'apps 'section on your Gear ,
all your sideloaded apps should show ( before they evenually disappear from "apps " section.)
i launch each app once and close it straight away .( the reason is that it is in memory of recent use app )
if i need to launch a sideloaded app i tap screen with 2 fingers on screen , and hold to bring up all recent used apps and select relevant app ?
(No need to reinstall etc .)
also yes,
you should get it right, with previous version of Gear manager
but you would have to go back 2 ..3 versions mabe to vers .1.5......?
(but you are going to lose other" improved benefits eg. like better bluetooth stability between phone and Gear ? etc.
just an alternative suggestion if you interested
Previous posters solution works however.....I have experienced the same issue tonight after the most recent upgrade to Gear software. Rebooting worked also. My fault as I wanted to restore to factory settings to remove QuickTwit from Notifications (a bug). The upgrade did offer a restore which I didn't take D'Oh!! I then did a restore via Wondershare.
I found that the approved Samsung apps like eBay for Gear and RadiOn although restored to the Gear via Wondershare had to be installed to Gear Manager by installing the apps from scratch.
Now all the apps don't disappear after 5 mins. Co-Incidence?
However, they do not appear on the list of downloaded apps, as they did with the previous version of Gear Manager.
Do also make sure the 3rd party app permissions box is ticked on the Gear Manager too.

Going back from Gear Manager v1.6 to v1.5 fixed issue for me. There's a nice collection of Gear Managers in this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593066
I hope it was just a bug in Gear Manager v1.6, and Samsung is not really trying to prevent sideloading.
Samsung has screwed us, early adopters again and they disabled certain apps to show notifications (Gmail being one of them).
Phuck them! Not the first, not the last time... but if you want to get your notifications back, just uninstall gear manager and install this file - Gear Manager_2.1.14071502.apk - i did it, and now i have my notifications back.
NEVER EVER AGAIN perform any updates to gear manager.
This is not a fully solution, day later, the Gear Manager shows up a notification, make update.
I deleted my Manager, and install again 502 version*, then I try to block connection by AFWall+ for Samsung Apps aka Galaxy Apps (anyway, this is a only place where we can find Gear Manager) and when I start a Gear Manager, I see black screen for 1,5s and then "set your personal....."
* and he ask me to upgrade a Watch, so I pressed YES and later I just got a naked Apex
Later I try do this again on my other gear
my fix
I kept getting unfortunately saproviders has stopped also no notifications so i found saproviders in app mangers and cleared the cache and now my notifications are working again.
I am so VERY frustrated!!!
I had to factory reset my Galaxy S5 since it had a bug that drained the battery even while on charge.
After restoring the phone and reconnecting my Gear 2 Neo all of the apps from the Gear App Market I had previously downloaded are not available for download again.
Each app I had is shown in the market as already on the Neo and stated as viewable in 'My apps' but none of the apps are shown on the device or Gear Manager.
So
I can't reinstall previously installed apps on my GEAR 2 NEO?
PLEASE help!!

I have same problem.
I would uninstall the gear manager from the device. At that point it will remove all Gear stuff. If not you may have to factory reset. If you are rooted you can use titanium backup to force remove the apps

I managed to solve the issue. However this was not done by simply uninstalling Gear Manager.
1. First Factory reset Gear device
2. Unpair Gear from bluetooth menu in your phone/tablet
3. Clear Data and Clear Cache on everything relating to the Gear on the phone/tablet. (these can be all found in the Application Manager in Settings and are all marked with the Gear icon)
Gear Plugin
GearModule
goproviders
HostManager
Samsung Accessory Service
Samsung Gear
saproviders
SASystemProviders
Update Gear software
4. After clearing data and cache on each of the above uninstall them all.
5. Restart your phone/tablet/phablet
6. Download Gear Manager from Galaxy App store
7. Search for your Gear device using the Gear Manager app and start pairing with Gear (as if for the first time).
8. At this point i chose not to do a restore on the Gear device through the Gear Manager so I had a clear slate
All of the apps I had previously downloaded still showed in my purchase history but were now available to download.
Hope this works for others!

It worked. Thank you very much for your time and detailed instructions. ????
Hi,
So recently, I have been using a package disabler called ultimate tool for samsung. Everything worked fine, as I was able to disable the gear vr service and run cardboard apps on gear vr. Today, I wanted to use my gear vr again, since I hadn't used it in a long time. So I put my S6 in my gear vr, and noticed the gear vr menu didn't launch. So I of course thought the package was disabled, which I found out it was. However, I was unable to enable it. So I tried package disabler pro, but I couldn't enable it on there either. I decided to uninstall all gear vr/oculus apps and put the phone back in the gear vr, but still no result. Would like to get some help.
Thanks in advance.
Using the disabler apps for Cardboard mucked up my phone too. The only way to get things working again I found was a factory reset. I just got a cheap VR Box viewer for Cardboard.

Try enabling it through the native application manager in settings.
Then wipe the data for all of the apps related to gearvr.
Than lastly, make sure facebook app manager and Facebook app installer are enable too. They are both required for gear vr

Problem is, the Gear VR Service isn't listed on the app manager, since its more of a service/package than an app.

Alright, Facebook app manager and Facebook app Installer are enabled. Gear VR SetupWizardStub and Gear VR Shell were already enabled and also cant be disabled. When I put my phone into the Gear VR, the Gear VR menu still doesn't open.

Okay so I'm thinking when you uninstalled the gear vr apps, 1 of 2 things probably happened.
Either you accidentally got rid of one of the important gear vr apps like gearvr installer, or the gearvr apps think you already installed everything gearvr related so they aren't trying to re-install.
And just to clarify, when you put your phone into the gearvr, NOTHING whatsoever happens right? There's no downloading symbol in the status bar, the blue or gray intallation window doesnt open up? The screen doesn't get glitchy or start flashing?
IMPORTANT: Make you restart your phone in between EACH attempt to get gearvr working. You need to reset the active processes and make sure any changes go into effect.
Heres what you should try, my mind will be blown if it doesnt work (if it doesnt, i could link you the gear vr apks so you can reinstall them from scratch manually... but that's last resort method)
1. Settings>applications>application manager>more>show system apps
2. Go through the entire list and open any thing that says Gear, Gear Vr, Oculus, Facebook, App manager, or app installer in the name and ensure that its enabled. When you open each of those apps after you confirm theyre enabled, tap "storage" and clear data. You might not be able to wipe data on all of them, try to clear cache.
3. This might not be a factor, but wouldn't hurt... go into settings>battery>battery usage>more>optimize battery usage... the drop down menu near the top will say apps not optimized, tap that and select "all apps" then go through the lengthy list and find all of those apps from step 2, and move the switch to "off" so they are NOT optimized to save power.
3.1 after you do that, restart your phone.
3.2 If your model has Smart Manger, it wouldn't hurt to go in there and make sure nothing gearvr ir oculus related is set to save power (not all models have smart manager, for example verizon doesnt have it)
4. Plug your phone into the gear vr. At this point, SOMETHING should happen. If the screen opens and that voice tells you "remove your device from Gear Vr to install required applications" thats a good sign, even if the install fails!
If still NOTHING at all happens, then most likely whatever hapened to screw up the gearvr apps can't really be undone without a factory reset, or manually installing the packages (which can be kinda glitchy)
It's also possible that something happened to the port on the gearvr to damage it. But we can cross that bridge if none of the above works.

I trief all this, and it still doesn't work. I think the problem is that the package Gear VR service is disabled. This is the process that makes sure the oculus apps launch when putting it in a gear vr. I think its a service thats already present when you buy the phone, even if you dont have the gear vr. This is the package I disabled in order to use Cardboard apps, and i cant enable the package anymore, so I doubt a reinstall from an apk will fix this. As you can see in the screenshot I added as attachment, the gear Vr service is disabled
Android 7 is coming to my S6 soon. Would it be a good idea to wait for that and see if I can then enable the package again?
Hi, same problem here. I have changed the phone, changed the USB-C connector, and I think I already tried a factory reset.
Sorry to insist, but can the gear itself be the problem ? Just to know if I have to replace it with the warranty or if there is another solution...
I actually completely forgot this topic still existed. I have already fixed this issue by doing a factory reset on my phone. This seems to be the only way to fix this. I also recommend to not use a package disabler for the Gear VR service.
Well, I already tried factory reset and it still doesn't work. It must be the headset. Thanks anyway
Hello everyone
I have a quick solution to this problem
You don't have to factory reset your phone or Uninstall any app
The only thing you need to do is go to apps >then click in the right upper corner and select "special access" then go to "device admin apps" and disable package disabler.
I hope it helps someone in the future [emoji2]

This worked for me. Have a Note 8 and bought the new headset for it and it stopped working a few months after buying it. Couldn't find a fix anywhere. Was going to reset it but the screen broke and had to get a new phone anyways, still wouldn't work though. I think it's one of the updates.
Anyways, I deleted cache and data from the mentioned apps in the instructions, restarted phone, connected to headset and it asked to reinstall apps. After doing so it still wouldn't work.
I then went to battery settings and under optimization I turned off everything related to the mentioned apps in the instructions, restarted the phone and voala, it's finally working again. Thank you kind sir.
There may be other ways but this was the first to work for me.
