Sluggish Galaxy s6 edge - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Is anyone else's Samsung galaxy s6 edge running a bit slow or sluggish to pull things up such as the keyboard and apps? I have the 128 GB rooted and this is driving me nuts that it takes so long for it to load up. It also runs very hot at times.

Yes..I'm having the exact same issues. Very frustrated and would also love to hear any suggestions.

Considering this is the Verizon S6 Edge forums, I'm guessing you are running the same 5.0.2 I am, which has a known "memory leak" issue. Wait for 5.1, for now, reboot everyday and that seems to work for me.

The memory leak affects all lollipop devices on 5.0.2 therefore we can only wait, or use some hackery with root

have a small fan next to your phone when charging. bring the phone down to 1% to charge to full it really improved my phone alot!!. it does not even get hot anymore. when i use the phone. my battery life has improved. it worked for me it may work for you

curious you have clean master on your device?

You shouldn't need a fan for your phone, lol, just incase you didn't know that. Maybe I'll charge mine in the fridge...
I use CCleaner and even that only marginally helps get speed back once the memory leak takes effect. The true way is to reboot (and it really doesn't take long). Hopefully soon 5.1+ will drop...
*Also, as a side note, fully discharging (or nearly so) a Lithium Ion battery is actually not good for it.

Reset it! :fingers-crossed:

Okay so the only thing I can do is reset it, and pray for an update that doesn't break root? I guess that's how it will have to be! Thanks for the info everyone! I'm pretty bummed about the development with this phone but it looks cool...

VZW and Gingerbread?

I just fired off two emails, one to Samsung and one to VZW, about the Gingerbread update for the VZW Tab. Anyone else doing the same? I told VZW that it's almost enough to make a person want to switch to Sprint.
Good question! Why has vzw not said anything? I mean they sell it and tell you when you buy it that it will be getting updated shortly to GB. Then you hear nothing else.

for ONCe i can say, i'm glad i bought the sprint tab... although i think i should've stuck with t-mobile, because sprint 3g is slow as t-mobile edge.
While midly irritating that vzw is so slow to update, the one update they did enabled bluetooth and I purchased this for what it was at the time, not what it might be inn the future.
My nexus one has gb and I can't really tell the difference from when it had froyo.
WITNESS THE xoom: never buy technology for what may or may not work in the future out you will be dissappointed
When the 8.9 comes out, or the 10.1 comes down in price, I might upgrade...but only for what those devices can do, not because vzw promises it will make my bed in the morning in a few months.

Good point. I've been running GB on my Sprint Tab for about a day. The only improvement I've noticed is that the browser is more responsive as far as scrolling and zooming. People running Tabs on 2.2 aren't missing out on a whole lot and have the luxury of root access.

Really, being able to watch Netflix with 2.3 on my tab is the only thing I'm looking forward to.

I loved my OG droid. Battery life was kinda lame, new phone were coming out so I got a TBOLT. Tbolt is very lame.
deciding to get a droid 4. im worried about these screen issues, everyone cries about 2 things. the battery and the qhd screen.
is it really THAT bad? I hardly play games and maybe watch you tube once in a while. if i do a play a game is it going to ghost that bad?
if i do any media its a psx game or angry birds on the pooper. occasionally ill try a new game out but nothing big.
if im not using the droid will the battery go down? that makes no sense if it does (alot), my tbolt now is at 5 hrs 95% turned off data.
i read alot on the web and text/chat often.
should i not get this phone bc of battery life and screen?
The screen is not THAT bad. I think it's fine personally. It stutters when scrolling through text but I don't think it's a big deal. Is it as nice as the gnex or razr? No, probably not. But I think it's fine. I have played Dead Space on it with no issues.
Battery life is fine for me with moderate use. It makes it through a full day for me. 4G defenitely sucks the juice depending on how much you use it. I will usually plug it in to the car charger on my way home from work just to be safe.
If you don't need a keyboard there are better phones out there. But this is definitely the best keyboard phone out there and totally worth the trade offs IMO. Wouldn't have wanted to type all this using an on screen keyboard that's for sure!

Thanks man, btw how bout this locked bootloader? whats that mean exactly?
are we going to get the rom support as we did with og droid?
Having a locked bootloader isn't as big a deal as some make it out to be. The way I understand it the only thing this really affects is the ability to flash custom kernels. Is it BS? Yes. But it's not the end of the world.
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA
The locked bootloader is thankfully a minor annoyance thanks to the community and SafeStrap recovery. I have already tested CyanogenMod 9 alpha, and it worked smoothly.
Personally I am very happy with the screen. See my posts in "is the Droid 4 the best keyboard phone" for more information.

DroidOG > Droid4
I have the DroidOG and loved it. I was so reluctant to leave it, but when I got this phone, I was surprisingly impressed.
Battery life is not much different (at least for me) with this phone compared to the DroidOG.
Keyboard is amazing. I love what Motorola's been doing to their devices.
I have a Zagg on mine and the screen isn't as bad as I was expecting. I use the Droid 4 and a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (which has a Super AMOLED Plus screen) and am not disappointed by the Droid 4 at all.
Droid 4 Screen
The screen is NOT that bad. You will get use to it. The only bad thing about the screen is the blur that occurs when you are scrolling test. Some apps are worse then others. PowerAMP has a pretty big blur when you scroll through text but with the stock web browser you don't really notice that blur on the text when you scroll. Another thing to keep in mind also is the qHD screens are pretty battery efficient which is definitely needed on a 4G LTE phone. Don't let the screen be a deal breaker because it really is a great phone IMO.
awesome guys thanks for the replies.
how is everyone's battery? How long can we get on a full charge?
if it can make a whole day 15 hours i'll be happy (moderate use) of course.
id be only using 3g and turning of data completly 8 majority of the day. (no service at works drains drains the bat searching for signal)
I leave background data, wireless and 4g connected all day, it does just fine. Needs a charge by the end of the night, but usually not before unless I spend several hours gaming or listening to music and keeping the screen on because I'm dumb. It does pretty good.
Could still go for a big fat battery backpack, though.

Basic advice, if you really want a keyboard, get the Droid 4. If not, go with Galaxy Nexus or Razr Maxx. I have heard that there is a GSM radio built into the Droid 4, it just isn't active. Assumption is Motorola will activate it at some point but who knows for sure. I don't have any experience with the Galaxy S1 but I think the screen on the Droid 4 is fine. Maybe not as pretty as some others, but it is not bad at all. I like it just fine. Performs will in sunlight which is a plus as well.

Possible upgrade S3 to G2 ... good idea?

Hi all!
I've been an S3 user for a little over 1.5 years; been a native of the Sprint forums (although my Sprint S3 is flashed to Page Plus).
Now that VZW has made their prepaid plan a lot more competitive and included LTE, I'm planning on making the jump, and thinking of picking up an G2 in the process.
I've loved my S3 - I run a rooted stock 4.4.2 rom, debloated all the samsung & sprint crap via titanium, and a custom kernel that's been tweaked to work well with my phone - and it functions perfectly - still fast, great battery life for a ~2 year old phone, etc. Been around android for some time now (first phone was the OG incredible), so am perfectly comfortable tweaking and such, however I don't want to spend too much time doing so.
I'm reading about the G2 and curious if it's worth the upgrade. I've heard several people online (mainly on the vzw forums) complain about the verizon 4.4.2 update causing issues with the phone. If I root, debloat, and run a quality custom kernel, am I likely to have issues? Is this even possible?
I've been looking at the S4 too, but it appears verizon has locked down the phone so much it's not worth it. Also there appear to be a ton of issues with their kitkat update.
I only use my phone for web browsing, calendaring email, texting, and talking - no gaming. I'm mainly looking forward to having the nicer screen and camera, and the likely possibility of a few more Android updates (which the S3 is unlikely to get). Honestly I'd love to have the next Nexus or something that runs closer to stock, but don't have the luxury to wait around for that phone (and I want to stay on vzw's network).
I've been doing some reading around your forum and am just curious as to your thoughts on the jump S3 -> vzw G2. Pros & cons?
Thanks much,
-Dirk

I've read people having issues after the update as well, but I've had none. Came from a Sammy phone as well, and well, I'm not going back. Absolutely LOVE this phone. Super fast, amazing screen, and excellent battery.
I'm running stock kitkat, debloated, with Simple kernel and have zero complaints. There are two kernels that steal the show (imo): Simple (for those who just want a custom kernel that doesn't need tinkering with) and dorimanx (which has all the options you could ask for).
Should you switch? H*ll ya you should. But that's just my opinion. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks! I read some reports of overheating with the 4.4.2 update, and also GPS issues; I take it you haven't had any of those running a custom kernel / setup?
Otherwise this phone is sounding pretty good.

GPS seems to be phone specific. I haven't had GPS issues with stock or custom kernel.
The heating thing is a bit trickier. Both kernels have overheating throttle, which does protect the phone. The only time I feel heat is playing Sonic (yes, sonic the hedgehog, I had a genesis back in the day, what can I say), so if you don't game you won't experience it. If I'm not playing, zero heat. Since you're not a custom rom guy, don't have to worry about it there either.
The other issue that seems to be common is a dead spot where the sim card is all the way across the phone. I've never had it (nor has my wife) because I think it has to do with heat (don't quote me on that).
So that's my general idea when it comes to this phone. I really believe you'll be happy you switched.

No shame! I used to play sonic all the time back in the day (had a genesis as well).
Yeah, there's a chance I'll install a custom rom but I generally like things clean and neat (debloated of course) so would likely just stick with stock + a custom kernel.
What do you mean by dead spot? On the touch screen?

Correct. But there doesn't seem to be a real correlation with anything (at least what I've read). Some just suspect heat is the culprit.
The dead spot goes clear across. Warranty it if it happens. But it seems fairly rare.
All the "issues" are hardware related, so a warranty takes care of it. Like any phone, there's always something. But if you're like me and treat the phone like a baby (handle with care) you shouldn't have a single issue.
I did the custom rom thing on my old phone but got tired of things not quite being right. Personally, I feel lg did an excellent job on the stock stuff. De-bloat and all is just fine!

Dead spots on the screen which is part of the screen is bad...Plus there is an ongoing issue of the dreaded black lines. I have yet have any issues with the g2 and i traded my s5 for it. Yes I did a trade from a s5 to the g2. Its the best phone in my book still out on market. it was funny the sale rep looked at me funny and just wanted to laugh and say why. He claims its the best phone but I dont think so. the g2 looks great all around, fast as heck, and is flashable.
I went from s3 to g2 you can totally tell the difference in power.I havhad the black lines issue after flashing but return to stock and sent to replacement and has been fin ever since.but I had the option of upgrading to g3 or st and after using the g2 over the s3 I'm on board with LG I used to only own Samsung's since the fascinate but after using them and playing with them I think LG does good what I need it to do Samsung has been doing the gimmicky stuff lately and it's kinda made me meh about them.and I think having the Qhd screen is trying to future proof me so when I upgrade in another 2 years I'll still be happy and not dreading not having it

Too late

Is it too late to the nexus 6 party? Debating jumping in our waiting for the new moto x
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
I've asked this before, and it sounds like many folks are keeping this phone for a long time..tons of dev here, if you are into that, and its still uncertain what the NEW moto will bring, as far as bootloaders and other stuff.
I've got another 30 days to "suffer" with my S6 edge, so I can sit back for a bit and wait, but leaning heavily towards this bad boy
I'm on a Nexus 6, and blisspop team member (devs, and maintainers). This phone is a BEAST. And you can NEVER go wrong w a Nexus.

Just switched from a s6 edge myself. On paper the edge is amazing but between lags and not keeping backgrounds apps open I was going crazy.
So far extremely happy with the n6, I still have a week to return it but looks like I'll keep it.

Pictures. The nexus 6 is not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be going by reviews but the gs6 camera is amazing.
Obviously easier to use with one hand but I'm pretty good at the one hand shuffle on big phones. Phone call quality seemed a little better on the Samsung but marginal at best.
I use tapatalk a ton and with the gs6 no matter what kernel or tweak I did I could not get it to stay open once going to a different program. Also sometimes my music would just turn off if I had not been back to the music app for a bit. If the gs6 ever gets aosp I might consider it again but at that point the camera drivers will probably suck so kinda defeats the purpose.
I'm kinda kicking myself for not getting the n6 earlier.
Yeah I know the camera isn't as good on the nexus, but that doesn't matter to me. I'm used to big phones so that won't be an issue for me.
I'm glad the nexus has wireless charging built in.
I have issues with music and tapatalk too plus the development is non existent on the edge so I can't wait to switch phones....
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Maybe the galaxy 6 versions will be better with some updates. Sad that they turned out a bunch of crap this go round. I'll be moving to the nexus 6 in a few days. The active might stick around for camera ops but that is really the only thing it has going for it.

Are you happy with your phone? If so why upgrade when it seems that most the newer phones feel like a down grade? If you are not happy, what needs improving for your phone experience and look for something with those things.
Very difficult to rely on someone else to tell you what you like. If you don't root, then tons of support and ROM's mean nothing to you. If you do root, this phone has lots of both.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I can't really say I need anything else. I do feel like the Note 5 is a downgrade due to the subtraction of certain features. I had rooted my note 4 before, but when I got a replacement it came with the updated firmware so I haven't been able to root it again

If you're on the new firmware it's able to be rooted. On my GF's note 4 we got her, I installed TWRP on it. Though we are running an AOSP ROM, so I can't really help you much further than that if you want to run TW. If you'd like to give AOSP a shot I suggest starting with one of Zion959 ROM's. He's got SlimRemiX and cmRemiX. We run the later.

Unfortunately I rely on WiFi calling inside my apartment. Although I suppose I could get the free thing from tmobile that boosts signal and 4g
i really wanna upgrade to the 6p, but i'm gonna wait til it hits bestbuy stores , until then i'm rocking the note 4 til it dies
