Blank Gallery Thumbnails | Not showing correct photo when clicked! HELP!

SITUATION:
This is not the first time that happened to me. Suddenly, I see blank folder/thumbnails in my Gallery. Some photos won't show up, some photos are supposed to be from other folders, some shows a thumbnail but when clicked, a different photo comes up.
I thought this happened to me before as I was using ext4 for my ext. storage on my then Kang-o-Rama ROM. I tried switching to ext3, which was more stable and the problem was fixed. But suddenly, today, I noticed that this happened again. Only the gallery app / photos are affected and my whole system. My whole system is running smoothly. I wouldn't want to think its my SD card because it is localized in the viewing photos. And almost all my apps run from the SD.
I'm using an Enomther-based ROM, MicroMod, and I never had problems before today.
Anyone else experienced this or any thoughts?

You been moving files around on the SD card without remounting or rescanning the disk? Try a tool to rescan the media, I use this one:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.humanrobot.scanmedia
If that fails, there is a thumbnails file on the disk you might try deleting.

The Rescanning apps didn't work.
Deleting the sdcard/android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache solved the problem! Yay!

Thank you very much.
This fix worked perfectly for me when my Gallery thumbnails became corrupted.

So i did something kinda dumb

Would some kind hearted soul make a Titanium Backup of the native Task Manager found in the latest Cognition 2.2 rom and post it for me.
I kinda took for granted that it might have been redundant to ATK and stupidly removed it via TB not thinking until after I long pressed the home button and saw "Task Manager" come up that it very well might have been a somewhat important feature...
BTW, if you press it and its not there... kinda crashes your phone and soft resets itself... fun times...
Yes I should have backed it up myself before removing it just in case. No I didnt. Why? Who knows...
So yeah, if someone could post me a link of something I can download and then upload into my phone so I can restore it... Id be quite grateful.
Im gonna go over to that dark corner over there and hang my head sheepishly in shame...

I could do it, could you kind of walk me through it? I know how to make backups via TB. not sure hot to get to them/share them though
Yay! Thanks for the offer! It should be relatively simple, just make a backup as you would via TB, just backup the app "Task Manager", DONT BACKUP THE DATA TO IT (the data could potentially corrupt something on my end if thinks don't match between our systems.)
Once you have the app backedup, plug your phone into your computer and mount it as mass storage. Navigate to the Titanium Backup folder on your SD Card, find the corrosponding .zip file and the other file that matches it (i dont recall the extension, but its the same name, if its not there, dont worry about it.). Copy them over to wherever you'd like, the desktop is usually standard, zip/rar them using your favorite compression tool, upload the archive file, post the link and hopefully it works!
Now to be perfectly 100% honest, Im not entirely certain it will work. It SHOULD work... Ive never actually done this before. Its a system app and they tend to work a bit differently than installed apps. You can sometimes get away with it on Windows depending on how important it is.
Linux though, is a bit of a quirky child. I'd rather try this and succeed rather than having to reflash and rebuild my system.
Thanks for your help!

I included mine. It's from Cog 2.2b8... I put both files into the zip. I wasn't sure if you needed both of them. So be sure to "only restore app" and not data.
Hey Thanks!
Okay... so I put it where it was supposed to go... it came up in the restore list, and it claims that it's being restored...
But it's not showing up anywhere...
Any thoughts?
Reboot?

No idea... Srry
yea... I gave up... I decided to reflash. After a few minutes, it just seemed to be the quicker and more productive method.
Thanks though! It was worth the try
We can close this thread now if anyone cares.

Note's deleted my files! HELP!

Suddenly my note gave me an error message that my sd card is being used as mass storage & so data cannot be accessed. Well rebooted the phone to discover alot of files do not exist! Deleted?!!!?
Seems all deletes files are data files related to applications on the phone memory itself but not the applications or its settings!
Note: All files on the movable 16GB memory card are not deletes.
Examples for the files have been deleted:
Recently captured pics & vids.
Scanned documents by Camscanner application.
Scanned business cards by Camcard application.
SMemo files but not the folder structure I created.
SPB Wallet source file.
All WhatsApp downloaded pics was available in WhatsApp pictures folder.
All downloaded books to Kobo book & Mantano reader.
Please help as I am getting crazy with the amount of data I lost suddenly especially that I do not have any explanation to what has happened to my phone in order avoid it again in future!

what rom you are using ?
Stock! Not even rooted!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well now, that is a poor situation and atleast some of those files will not be possible to get back. Most of them possibly can, just as long as you do not write ANYTHING more on the SD card, not even SMS.
You could root the phone, take a .tar.bz2 image of the SD card partition on the external SD, copy the archive to your desktop and use Linux in a virtual machine to rescue the files from there -- the tool is called magicrescue.
Well this seems very complicates for me especially what's related to lunix & the virtual machine )) Anyway! Do you have any idea what might have caused this silly sudden problem so as for me to avoid? Is this common & subject to repeat? Is my device has any problem that I need to fix?

Yes, it is somewhat time-consuming atleast.

I know what caused the files to disappear; there was clearly filesystem corruption after improper shutdown and Android repaired it by removing affected files, but I do not know what caused your issue to begin with. Possibly something you've installed on the phone. In any case and just to be safe it, might be a good idea to backup everything, do a full factory reset and check you are running the latest firmware available.
Your explanation does make sense to me as I remembered that has happened just after I uninstalled the sslauncher application! But I also remember that the uninstallation has completed successfully with no problem!
Anyway, thank you for the valuable advice to backup & restore, I will make sure to do it today! Good day

[Q] Problem recognizing transferred photos.

I am having a problem with transferring photos from my pc to my phone.
No matter what file I try to transfer them to. They won't be recognized. Like they don't even exist.
I try to transfer them again to the same file to see if maybe it did not work but it says they are there. But when I go to check my gallery, there is no sign of them.
What is going on? Do I have a virus? Can anyone help?
Thanks.

i hate the built-in gallery try to download quickpic (alot of option + fast )
or try to clear cache
OK so that helped with updating my contact pictures list, but I originally wanted to update my wallpaper. I use multi picture live wallpaper. And like I said any new picture I put onto my phone is just not recognized.
I'm just directly put my photos under a folder created by myself in the internal storage.

I have actually done that, but alas did not make a difference. If it makes any difference. I notice that whenever I either plug in my phone into my pc and/or move photos around the "Media Scanner Running" icon notifies me on and off for about 5 minutes even after I have finished. And it as well tends to randomly close any app and the app drawer when I open it.
OK just replying to myself but haha I am becoming more and more frustrated with this. It is also affecting my music as well. I transfer the music files from my pc to my phone and they are only in "My Files" app section. Not found in any of my music players.
Now I have recently downloaded a few apps for customization. Such as ADW Launcher EX, Widget locker, and a few others.
Would any of those somehow change things in my phone. I did pay for them.
Make sure there isn't a .nomedia hidden file in the directory where you placed your picture. Additionally unless you use a media scanning app to force media scan, you will need to restart your phone.

I think I am going to assume there is something wrong with my media scanner on my phone. It is always running and constantly popping up saying it is running, then force closing anything I have open.

Nexus 7 on Android 4.2 Ghost Files MTP Windows 7

Files deleted from within the Nexus 7 using FileManager still appears on Windows when connected to Windows 7 via USB. What's happening?
Clicking on these "ghost files" in windows explorer does nothing, but they can be deleted.
There seems to be many file structure issues with Android 4.2
I also get different free space figures reported from Settings/Storage and Storage Analyzer and Windows 7
Anyone else face these issues?
Folks never fail to amaze me...
An MT mount just gives Windows a view into a portion of sdcard storage. I have no idea why you would expect to see dynamic changes done by you on the device from Windows.
Try refresh on Windows or disconnect/reconnect the device to force a refresh.
Mostly don't be making changes to the device file system while Windows thinks it is control.
You know that part about safely disconnect? That is because Windows has a local cache of your file structures.

I have to disagree here, i have seen files show in windows days after deleting them on the device. No idea though if the files are true ghosts using zero space or if deleting them in windows does free up space on the device.
Also there is no safe disconnect when using mtp, its not required

You're right. The files appear in windows even after disconnecting and connecting to windows. dexterslab, did you have these issues before Android 4.2?
Somehow, an image of these deleted files remains on windows even though it has been cleanly deleted from within Android 4.2
I'm having the same problem here...

I had the same problem with my Galaxy Note on my MacBook Air using the google MTP transfer app for Mac.
Deletes on the device were not seen by the Mac MTP application and I saw the deleted files forever.
I solved the problem by regularly deleting the application preferences and cache.
It's a MTP bug on the computer side.
If we could find a way to delete the cache for MTP on windows, I think we could solve that bug,
well that would more be a workaround but that would be better than nothing.

this issue was also in 4.1.2. I noticed it when i was backing up the sdcard on the pc before updating to 4.2
Happens on my gnex too. Using vista. Also encountered files/photos appearing as 0kb on windows but are OK from the phone

I had the same issue on 4.1. I wish we could mount nexus as normal usb storage, I have many problems with MTP because I'm using linux
Wysyłane z mojego Nexus 7 za pomocą Tapatalk 2
Same with my Nexus 7. But I don't think it's a big deal.
When I reboot my nexus 7 ,connect again, the "ghost files" disappear. Kind of refreshing problem I guess.
BTW, this exists on the earlier version like 4.1.1 too.
As far from my experience with this type of error with "ghost" files, I think is coming from the file explorer used because when I use the app named "ghost commander" I have no problem with the files. Maybe the name is was destinated but only with this I can see the files in real time, even on delete or copy directly on the tablet they refresh immediately on the PC too.
Sent from my Nexus 7
This crap happens because the onboard memory needs a refresh whenever you make a change from Windows Explorer, an SD rescan app from Play will force this.
MTP is ****.
