[SOLVED] Z3 Compact Bricked after flashing a wrong firmware - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I'm currently having problems with my z3c. All happened by accidentally flashing the wrong firmware. After all the wrong flashing now my phone won't turn on nor it will go to "flashmode" using the sidekey method. Only way to get in the phone is by doing "Fastboot" method! Is there anyway i can fix this brick by flashing a stock firmware using fastboot method?
Thanks!

Have you tried holding power, volume up and volume down all together then release all except volume down and connect to the PC (that is ready to flash with flashmode)? Which rom did you try to flash? Normaly you should also be able to enter flashmode.
How do you try to enter flashmode?:
"Power off the Xperia phone and then press and hold Volume Down button while creating the connection between the phone and the computer."
fastboot is only ment for AOSP roms like cyanogenmod other sonys opensource stuff which all require a unlocked bootloader.

Yeah man, i tried everything. Up down and power. I flashed the incorrect firmware for my Z3C, then after the reboot it didn't turn on. it's weird i can't even get into flashmode using the down key and power. Whenever i try the power button it gives 3 vibrates then doesn't turn on at all. Is it fully hard bricked or will i be able to fix this?

Wait, I solved the flashmode. I can access the flashmode now. But theres a problem, I can't flash a firmware using flashtools because my USB-debugging is off and i cannot access my phone to turn it on. Is there anyway i can flash a firmware without usb-debugging? I got all the working adb drivers & etc.... just my debugging is off

Have you tried downgrading/flashing to stock fw 23. 0.A.293 (Device D5803) and then you can root from there.

I can't flash anything, because of USB Debugging off, Flashtool will only allow you to flash if your Debugging is on, and i can't turn on my usb debugging as my phone is bricked.
I need help to find a way to flash the stock firmware!

OK my bad....its just, this tut doesnt say anything about needing usb debugging active on the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-stock-roms-t2240614 and when I got my Z3C I had to downgrade in order to root and definitely didnt active usb debugging for that.

What version of flashtools did you use if it didn't ask you for debugging?

Cant remember if I have upgraded but my present verison is 0.9.18.5 dated 2015-02-14 which is around the time I got my phone....but can see in the tut they are using 0.9.10.2 if that helps.
And if you look at #5 in tut it says: INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off

0.9.10.2beta6 I've installed that version, i hope it works but doubt it.
EDIT: omg dude this version is actually working, It's flashing without usb debugging Thanks

I'm having similar problems.
I'm trying to flash 23.4.A.0.546 lollipop but with latest flashboot version needs debugging on so I've downloaded and installed 0.9.10.2beta6 but when I try to flash the rom it says "please connect device in flashmode", If I disconnect the phone and then connect it again it will say "device disconnected" and then "device connected in flashmode" but nothing happens... Did you do anything in particular to bypass debugging mode needed problem?

It is possible your device is powered on but the screen is not working (I remember this from the Z1 root procees that required flashing a wrong firmware).
Try to force power down your phone first (press and hold power & volume up for 5 seconds) without the usb cable and reenter flashmode by holding volume down while inserting the usb cable.

Did you install the drivers from flashtool ? For windows 8-10 you have to boot with disable driver verification or something similar. You can find a tutorial here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...rs-windows-t2638680/post50100353#post50100353

[Q] Flash Mode Reboots while connected

Hi, so I have a stock ICS rom on my lt30a, and im trying to put the Jelly Bean update. This is the first time im using flashtool but I did my research and knew everything I needed to do. One thing keeps preventing me from flashing it to my phone. I put the phone successfully in flash mode, green light, its recognized in flashtool, excellent, then after a short period of time my phone just reboots, shows the sony logo and is charging normally. I think my computer just keeps not recognizing the phone again and again but as far as I know all the drivers are installed.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Ok then looks like usb debugging is turned off goto developer options and turn it on and try flashtool again also make sure to allow mock locations in that same menu
hope this helps
Huh it says in developer options that usb debugging is on. I turned on mock locations and will try again. It could be the problem is with my computer or Windows 8 not flash tool or my phone

I'm nervous about doing that because one time I did it and I just assumed there was a time out, so I quickly went into flash mode and started to flash the ftf file. It said preparing then a second into actually flashing it disconnected. I thought I had bricked my phone but it booted fine.

Well, thats the way to do it. You must let flashtool prepare the files and only attach the phone when it prompts you to do so.
Tell me what happens when you do it. I cant help you if I dont know if it disconnects whilst actually flashing. Please copy and paste the log from flashtool

No need to say thanks, just hit someones thanks button if you want to say thanks.
That is a seperate issue from 303 or 195 FW, I beleive it is gone on 223 and 498 FW
But what you can try is to press volume up and power button to hard reset the phone. Do it untill it vibrates once AND THEN KEEP PRESSING UNTILL IT VIBRATES 3 MORE TIMES. Then try connecting in flashmode

no it says no device connected
You have to push Hard reset button (red button just near the SIM card) until phone vibrates 3 times. Then you push volume down button and then connect PC microUSB cable into the correct connector on your Z1.
Flashtool should see your phone. Then you can flash with flashtool back to your previous (stock ?) ROM.

Strange. Did you connect the usb cable to your phone AND maintain volume down button?
Because USB debugging OFF is only when your phone has started Android. When in Flashmode Android is not started.
So after pushing red hard power off button and phone vibrates 3times (it's important it vibrates 3 times) :
- close and restart Flashtool on your computer,
- choose Flash button (strike icon), choose the FTF of the stock firmware then validate and then check 'Flashmode' then OK, it will work few seconds and bring you a new screen explaining you how to get into flash mode with a phone and cable in a Window,
- take your USB cable in left hand,
- push down volume button with your right hand
- connect your cable in micro USB port AND maintain volume down for a few seconds
I decomposed the steps because it is important not to wait too long when connecting cable onto your device and launching Flashtool (that's why I prefer to launch it before, as described above), because if the phone detects current in its usb port, it starts system. It is important to be ready and having Flashtool launched BEFORE plugging the cable.

That's quite wierd. The fact that phone's LED becomes red is a good sign, i.e. going to flashmode.
IS it Flashtool saying the phone is in USB debugging ? If not, you can then flash after the LED ran red with flashtool.
Flashtool may say it's USB debugging OFF if Android is booted.
If in flashmode, Flashtool should say :
03/043/2015 15:43:18 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode

Perhaps you can flash a boot.img from there and use recovery at least.
This is what happens to my phone when the kernel fails to flash, usually after restoring a nandroid.

Ok you shouldn't have that in your flashtool log.
Without the phone connected to the PC, you should have the following message, especially "Please connect your device into flashmode" :
03/049/2015 16:49:48 - INFO - Selected Bundle for Sony Xperia Z1 (C6903). FW release : 14.4.A.0.108. Customization : Generic FR 1276-5833_R5C
03/049/2015 16:49:48 - INFO - Preparing files for flashing
03/050/2015 16:50:49 - INFO - Please connect your device into flashmode.
From my point of view, it doesn't seem your phone is powered off.
Then to Power Off hard press the red button near sim card, just above the chrome power button until phone vibrates 3 times :

Then do the steps I gave you before.

Ok dude. Sorry but I can't help you anymore. Maybe advanced developpers could. My knowledge on flashing Z1 is 2 days old only
FYI, my LED is blinking 1 time red and 1 time green very quickly when I power on my Z1 in flashmode. Nothing on screen, but Flashtool detects my device in Flashmode.
Maybe, as proposed by markuz85, you should try Fastboot mode (volume up instead of volume down)... but I never tried this and I won't be helpful on that.
Good luck and tell us if you have got something.

When I look at your screenshot I think "have you pressed the left button at the flashtool before you connect the device?" only after that you can select the flashmode at this tool.

Z3 Compact stuck on bootloop no recovery

Hi guys,
So I'll tell you the whole story here. I was on Lollipop, fully rooted with working XZDR recovery but phone seemed laggy so I decided to give it a full format with the newer firmware. So I backed up everything. Booted into recovery. Formatted the whole phone, then took out the SD card to load on the zip file from the PC. On inserting it, it wouldn't be detected so I tried to reboot into recovery using the inbuilt option but forgot that recovery too would have been deleted. Since then its just stuck on the Sony logo. It reboots by keeping the Power button and Volume Up pressed, but to no avail. I tried to flash the image using Flashtool but it doesn't recognize the phone when I try to connect it in Fastboot using the Volume Down during Reboot method. Nor do I get a blue LED on the phone. I guess it isn't entering Fast boot.
Please help out since its my daily driver. Help appreciated. Thanks
Oh hey guys managed to restore using Flashtool. Tried booting phone into Flash Mode again and idk how it worked this time. Breathing a sigh of relief.
Could you please explain in detail how did you managed to get out of bootllop....it seems i sucked exactly like you & now clueless....
First of all, try repair it with Pc Companion. If that doesn't work, try with flashtool.
Keep in mind, to enter flash mode, press volume down button and insert usb cable.
tried PC companion & got error 2003 (Unlocked Bootloader & rooted wont work it seems)
Flashtool, will give a try again....
As of now, i am able to go to the fastboot & can open files on my PC when connect phone via USB cable....
Phone not booting up normal/recovery mode....It just stucked with boot loops
Tried flashtool---Ended up with errors as attached pic
As i cant bootup my phone...USB Debugging option cant be ticked
I was running SlimLP (unofficial) while bricked my phone....
Anything on that please....

Try installing Flashtool ver 0.9.10.2beta4 - you can see in this tutorial section #5: Device connected with USB Debugging off, ergo you dont have to have USB Debugging on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-stock-roms-t2240614

Not sure what you mean....... all I can say is, Flashtool 0.9.10.2beta4 does not require USB Debugging to be turned on to work and I definitely didnt turn USB Debugging on before starting the root process. Later yes but not before.
Try it or not, thats up to you.....

Battery was fully charged and I've tried that but phone does not response at all to flashtool. When plug in to PC, in device manager under USB controllers, it sees it as SOMC Flash Drive. I think the phone boot is dead.

Thanks for your help...The phone was flashed successfully with flash tool with flash file E6553_28.0.A.4.8. After flash done, phone was dead, cannot power on anymore. Now when I tried to flash it again, volume down, insert USB the flashtool show as: Device detected with USB debugging off. It doesn't go to flash mode anymore. I took the back cover off, remove battery connector flex cable and connect it back and try flashing many times but flashtool will not detect phone in flash mode..PC can detect phone because it makes connecting sound on PC but detects as what mode I don't know. In device manager, it doesn't show any device in com port but it shows SOMC Flash Device in USB controllers. I tried to press volume up + power but nothing happened. Once again thanks for your help.

As I understood, you tried to downgrade. Am I right? I heard that sometimes downgrading causes hard brick. I don't know how to fix it but only option is bringing service.
