Did you lose boot loader unlock or root when you installed 4.3? I'm assuming you used fastboot to install not OTA? Just curious...I'll be playing tonight when I get home.

You lose root but your bootloader remains unlocked.
Has anyone been able to root 4.3? Tried to root and flash custom recovery with the Nexus 7 toolkit, but I don't think it's working.

haven't tried it (I'm yet to receive the update) but someone referenced this link: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+Chainfire/posts/WqS2E9kkN1L
he is right.....You loose root but bootloader remains unlocked...
i have heard people say that you do not loose root if you use the OTA Method and your bootloader also remains unlocked....So its your choice its either Fastboot or OTA...
Just use OTA Rootkeeper, you'll be fine.
Just remember kids.
You cannot use an OTA if your ROM is modified in ANY WAY.
Yeah OTA wont work for most people, seeing as they probably have a modified ROM. In any sense, chainfire has a root method that works. I can confirm it working, because I installed it using TWRP

When 4.2.2 came out I had problems updating because my ROM was modified. But someone modified OTA not to check for changes in ROM and it worked.
no OpenGL ES 3.0 for us?
according to http://developer.android.com/:
"OpenGL ES 3.0 is an optional feature that depends on underlying graphics hardware. Support is already available on Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 4, and Nexus 10 devices."
I am running 4.3 unlocked but I did the one click method for root using nexus tool kit and for some reason it did not work, I have to try again tonight.

So, I played around a bit,
First of all, I did a "clean, unrooted and even locked bootloader install".
So I'm 1000% stock, just to avoid stuff like "maybe root caused it"..
(I locked it because I wanted to go 100% stock, just FYI, I know it's normally not necessary...)
The welcome screen was a bit weird... I got asked 2 times to tick or untick boxes for saving passwords and all that stuff.. (I think they mixed up the new and the old "first boot setup"?)
The Apps and widgets in the drawer were kinda confused, took 2 reboots for them to settle... (Icons disappeared and reappeared.. The widget tab in the drawer threw some widgets in and out, and the previews were mixed up, so dots and a weird sign was the result (as a preview of the widget)...
The initial setup was pretty laggy, but after setting stuff up, until now, yes I can say the performance of the nexus 7 is improved..
First I was like "OH HELL NO" but after the setup and the reboot everything was smooth...
Oh, and the back button was destroyed 1 time, blinked up but didn't go back... I pressed the home button and it worked then.
Edit: And sadly, no new wallpapers in stock... ):

I booted it up, restored my Google Play stuff (flashed a factory image, completely wiped everything from it, so it's clean, I think).
It lagged a lot, so I rebooted it and it still isn't 4.2.2 smooth. Maybe it's just me, I'll see.
Is it just me, or does it feel like the only thing that changed for us is the number in settings menu besides Google Apps?
OpenGL ES as it was already said, doesn't appear to be here for us, not to mention the fact that Miracast had never actually worked on N7 until recently when someone had it ported over.
Has anyone managed to find the link for the OTA yet?
SO I flashed the stock 4.3 kernel on a 4.2.2 rom and discovered that the stock android 4.3 kernel breaks wifi and gps on 4.2.2...

I have literally hours working on that.
Flashed the stock image using fastboot, took like 2 minutes to do, flashed the chainfire root patch and rebooted and restored apps, so far everything is pretty smooth no disappearing apps or icons or buttons, the kernel seems to be quicker, opening websites was quite a bit quicker, one thing I noticed while trying out different browsers was ads opening up new tabs automatically, that's something that's never happened before.

Tegra 3 does not support GLES3. Even Tegra 4 won't, because nvidia are still using their old gpu architecture.
What's the performance like? Better than 4.2 or 4.1?

I have several problems. I am still on the stock ROM. I updated with Kies to Android 5.0. I then rooted the phone. I have not flashed a custom ROM yet. I have tried to remove system apps with my old favorite root app removers and they simply don't work. They say successful but the apps come right back. I have backed up my phone with the standard recovery apps, TWRP, Philz touch and ROM Manager. I carefully chose backup to the SD card but all of them also save the backup to the phone memory also. Those backups eat the phone memory and I cannot remove them. Removal fails. Files are write protected. I was able to remove the backups by using the factory reset. That is a real pain. I'm now afraid to use any recovery now. With only 16 GB of memory, I choose to use the SD card. Is Android 5.0 causing these problems? Am I stuck with the stock Android 5.0? Kies warned me that I can't go backwards. I had none of these problems with the Samsung S3 and S4 with custom ROMs. I might add that I used a no bloat program with the S5 and Android 5.0. It bricked my phone. It was quite difficult to get it working again with the stock Android ROM. I wish I not bought the S5 or updated to Android 5.0.

Hi all I'm confused I got a galaxy S5 on Wed with Lollipop already installed. I've read multiple posts and still have one question, "Can this phone be rooted?" I keep finding different answers. If not can I reload an older version of android that can be rooted, I need root for my anti-theft and Titanium Backup. Not to mention root is needed for removing Bloat(crap)ware that Samsung and AT&T install.
Thanks

As this time, no, the G900A with the completely stock 5.x load can not be rooted.
Since the bootloader is locked, and they bumped one of the counters with the 5.x loader, you can not install a previous version. You're welcome to try but if it fails you will likely have an unrecoverable brick - unless the AT&T Store or Samsung Experience Store has the complete ODIN file to re-flash your device with.
Until someone determines a way of rooting the stock L load, you're stuck without.
Regards.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll wait as I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone cracks this version or a compatible ROM is published
I only root to get rid of bloatware. While lollipop seems to be handling the ram and battery usage better, it still makes me angry when I see one of those crap apps running that I can't uninstall.
One would think the FCC would make AT&T and others allow this stuff to be uninstalled when the consumer owns the phone.
Kingo root method
just watched a video on WWJOSHDU youtube page, about kingo rooting at&t devices any idea whether that includes the S5 with lollipop?
I found on my wife s5 which I had to unroot and return to stock for warranty when I got the replacement & upgraded to lollipop that in app settings you can disable all the bloat

You can download PackageDisabler.apk and disable all bloatware. It also fixed the "Unauthorized Actions......." recurring prompt after the latest security update by disabling all KNOX related packages.
So basically i just bought a note 3 from someone and it came with 4.4.2. I was planning on rooting it but when i got up this morning i accidentally clicked continue on the new update (5.0 Lollipop). I was just going to ignore the update but it downloaded in my sleep last night and i accidentally clicked it this morning. It is an AT&T model, N900A. So my question is, is it possible to root 5.0 Lollipop right now? and could I downgrade to 4.4.2 then root? thanks

You have AT&T so the boot loader is locked, meaning you can only use Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572978 If you still got "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. When you say "do all four files" what does that mean? U upload all 4 files on Odin on the PA line and press start for each file? Or can you upload all 4 files at once and then press start in Odin?
N900a system software not authorized
I've rooted and flashed roms before but having slight issues this go around.
I installed twrp manager app and flashed the wrong recovery (accidentally).
No issue arose at that very moment. So I found the proper recovery and flashed.
A few minutes later when I attempted to enter recovery mode it gave me the "system software not authorized " error and will not let me e term recovery mode to flash new rom.
If I press volume down power and home then select cancel when it ask to enter download mode phone restart and give normal use.
Please help. I will greatly appreciate it.

Simple ROOT, no mod? SM-N900A
I am in same boat. Bought a reconditioned Note 3 and it updated to Lollipop. 5.0
I am not currently interested in any mods, I just want root with no OS change so I can uninstall useless bloat ware.
Use the phone with Consumer Cellular so all the AT&T specific apps are useless but clog the system. Also want to get rid of crap like Uber, Magazine and TouchWiz etc. They are a constant annoyance.
Any instruction to just a basic root with no mod to Kitkat?
SM-N900A ( AT&T )
Android 5.0 Lollipop

Sorry, have to go back and root then go to Lollipop.
Few days ago I bought the Samsung Galaxy S5 G900A unlocked. There was Android 5.0 preinstalled whith baseband vOC4! I tried to make the downgrade to 4.4.2 because of the root, and always gettin the brick. Saw the post about flasjing G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions and it helped me a lot with unbricking! I tried all the ways of downgrades: recovery ZIP update (including OC4 firmware w/ OA1 bootloader) , ODIN flashing different stock roms, custom roms, kernels etc. Can I make a downgrade with that baseband? I've read somewhere that it's impossible to do in this case...
Really confused now after all this.
No need for confusion. There is no way known to humanity that will allow you to downgrade from 5.0 to anything else.

ODIN back to OC4 to unbrick and remember; if you can't root you, can't do anything but wait for root or buy a different model phone.
ODIN back to OC4?
There is no way at this time to ODIN back to OC4, OA1, or whatever.
There is only a ".exe" file for OC4.

similar situation
Hello guys,
my situation is quite similar to the posters one. i've bought the S5 active (AT&T) with some custom TMS5 rom, when i boot i sie unlocked lock icon.
the version is 5.0: the kies is showing info like: G900FXXU1BOC7/G900AATT3BOC4/G870AUCU1BOC5/G900FXXU1BOC7 (ATT)
the question is can i get somehow to the STOCK firmware? maybe upgrading to the 5.1.1 will get rid of this "custom stuff"?
if so, what's the best way to do it?
I purchased a new G870A Galaxy S5 Active this week, which was preloaded with OC5 (5.0, Lollipop) firmware. I was able to root the device by downgrading to 4.4.2; the guide here was very helpful: http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s5-active-to-lollipop-root-it-and-enable-wifi-tethering/
The exact procedure I used:
1. Flash NE4 firmware with Odin (The latest heimdall from git didn't work; I had to boot Windows 7 and install Odin & Samsung USB drivers)
2. Reboot the phone in recovery (power+volume up+home). Use the options to clear cache & reset to factory default
3. Reboot the phone normally. It might appear bricked & take up to 5 minutes to get past the AT&T logo.
4. Root with Towelroot
5. Follow the instructions on the linked page to install pre-rooted OF3 (Lollipop) firmware and the OC5 bootloader.
6 (important). Kill OTA updates by renaming /etc/security/otacerts.zip & /system/priv-app/wssyncmldm and then rebooting. Delete anything in /data/fota for good measure. (Use your favorite root-enabled file explorer or shell.)
Note that this will not work if the phone has received OTA updates beyond OC5. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g870aoc5-5-0-keeproot-t3083841
