So after upfront to lollipop yesterday. I'm listening to music on my phone, it's off in my pocket. My music stops and disconnects from my Bluetooth. I check my phone only to find it in the middle of a factory reset and all my apps and data are gone. Most of it is recoverable but this is still a nightmare. Has anyone else experienced this?? My phone has a pin so I'm not sure how it got to the factory reset screen. My new apn was set to euinternet after. Any suggestions, should I send it in for service?

Did you have double tap to wake enabled?
Sometimes, I'd find that having double tap to wake while having my phone in my pocket would totally screw with a bunch of random settings like my clock settings in my lock screen etc. Could be possible that your phone somehow factory reset itself in the same way.
It was enabled but still had a pin that I'm surprised if my pocket entered this correctly. Screw tap to wake of this is the reason.
Edit: and now I realize that it also wiped my SD card in the process.
If the unlock PIN is entered incorrectly too many times, a factory reset is performed to make sure your data doesn't end up in the wrong hands. This feature prevents an unauthorized person from systematically guessing your PIN by limiting the amount of retries within a certain period of time. It is built-in to Android and not a Sony feature.
Double tap to wake probably woke your phone up in your pocket and went crazy entering the wrong PIN over and over again until a factory reset was triggered.

Blackberrys had a feature where you had to type the word 'blackberry' after 5 incorrect pins to prevent pocket lockouts.

I'm used to enter my SIM PIN before the Today screen is displayed. So the X1 connects to the mobile network before you start working with the phone.
But now the X1 starts WM and i have to click manually on the phone settings to enter the PIN. SIM Pin is turned on.
Is there any way to get a "auto SIM PIN screen" on startup?
Actually i forgot to note that i get a PIN Screen on Startup. But just for a few seconds and you cannot type in any number. It then fades and the today screen is displayed. I think there's something going wrong. mh.
Thanks for your advise!
I was wondering the exact same thing. The thing displays for a second then goes into loading today screen leaving you manually starting the SIM PIN screen.
This is a sideeffect of xperiaTweak, it's been discussed here already. A simple search could have given you the answer.
There is no fix for this right now but it should not matter -either you can simply press the green phone-button, then you can type in your PIN, or you just deactivate the PIN-code.
its not xperia tweak,, because the moment i got this phone, i am grumbling about this already... i think its PANELS
I have the same problem exept i used to be able to enter my pincode but now i only get the first 2 numbers then it just "logs on" by itself... i don't think its TweakXperia either coz it worked before and i hade it than to...and when i check the conn manager it says the phone is on, not i flight mode or anything else... so weird!

Could be too. This behavior started the moment I installed XperiaTweak so I thought this program is the one to blame.
Maybe it's just to wait for the firmware update. And after all, how often do you softreset your phone? I installed all the programs I need and now it's weeks before I restart the device.
Actually I've installed xperia tweak, but I did not use it. Changed some chache sizes with advanced config.
I think it happened the first time after i allowed Sprite Backup to automatically enter the SIM PIN. But turned that feature off and the programm is not on auto start ... as far as I know.
Ah and I searched the forums and found nothing about sim und pin .
I "soft reset" my phone on most evenings by pressing the On key and selecting to turn the device off. There's no need for the phone to be on standby when I'm sleeping.
I think I'll do a hard reset and take a look when my SIM PIN Menue is disappearing.
I simply removed simlock. I rarely turn the phone off, so there is little chance it would work.
Well there's the difference!
I turn it off more often. Btw, Soft Resets once a day are recommended by SE on their X1 site. To "clean up memory" . hehe
And its quite nasty to go to the PIN menu manually all the time.
I usually just press the call button and the phone brings up the PIN menu. This is quite an easy way I think...you don't have to navigate too much this way.

Tell that to my Nokia 1208 I still have somewhere. 7 weeks of battery lifetime and no "memory cleaning"
On topic: WHen the PIN code screen shows up, just type it in and press ok without waiting for a response. On my X1 it usually works, the screen hangs but the PIN gets entered.
Pressing the call button is faster, but still manually.
I did a hard reset on my device and payed some attention to the SIM PIN screen.
After the reset, with no external programms installed (original stock rom) the PIN screen appeared every time, soft reset and complete shut down.
But after I installed the first programms (in this case advanced config and advanced task manager) the SIM PIN screen started to fade away. Surprisingly it seems to be random now. Sometimes the screen fades and the today screen is shown, and on the other side the pin screen stays up until I entered the SIM PIN.
As for today:
Turned mobile phone off over the night.
First start today: SIM PIN screen stayed up.
Soft reset: SIM PIN screen stayed up to.
Yesterday the SIM PIN screen faded away for every Soft reset i made. I've installed a bunch of programms (My_flash, Youtube App, Skyfire, ...).
Until now I have NOT installed Xperia Tweaks! I'll see if the randomness fades with that installed.
Perhaps this occurs, when a programm running in the background causes the (phone) PIN screen to minimize. Sometime it went away when F-Secure wants to update definitions.
No XperiaTweak installed yet and still no SIM PIN screen fade away pattern .
Maybe XperiaTweak also runs in the background on startup, panel switcher or what ever. You could take a look at this .
i noticed that if i start entering the code immediatly after it appears , it is enough time to enter it(6 char) and press enter.Anyway i don't mind pressing the green key once in order to enter PIN
Bump out of curiosity. Is there a solution for this?
Today I went into location and security and I changed the Screen unlock setting to "none"....
Immediately the screen went off and has stayed off. Opening the keyboard, pressing the on button, restarting does nothing. I wonder if anyone else has done the same thing, It's hardly an obscure setting.
Anyone have any idea what i should do?
I'd say the best choice would be to do a hard reset and start all over.

I would call tech support, return it to the store and shoot an email off to moto-dev. Obvious software problem motorola should be made aware of.
Hey, I have been having the same issue, although mine doesn't seem to have been from changing a setting. It seems more random than anything else. So yeah sometimes the phone will just randomly restart (this last time while I was playing Air Attack HD) and then it will get stuck at the Droid Eye boot screen, eventually the screen will time out and then the phone is pretty much dead after that, except I can still receive notifications and even phone calls, but I can't act on any of them. The screen won't turn on no matter what I do. After pulling the battery and restarting, it keeps doing this same thing. i have factory reset 3 times now and it's getting annoying. I'm trying to keep as many apps off as possible. Does this sound like your issue? I'm going to keep searching the forum, and maybe start up a thread on this issue.

Doesn't happen for me..

So my wife just got a Moto X this week. All of a sudden it started giving her issues. The power button will not lock the phone or turn off the screen. It will, however, turn off the phone properly. And, no matter how short the sleep timer, it will not go to sleep. Anybody else had these issues?
Brand new phone? Factory reset. If problem persists, demand a replacement. After all, it's brand new.
Be sure to check it immediately after reset. If this recurs only after you've configured the device, then maybe there's a problem with one of the apps you're installing.
You haven't rooted it, have you? I did have a problem once where I had set the "screen stays on" checkbox in App Settings xposed module while tinkering with the DPI in my browser. It took a while to understand why the phone was never shutting off in the browser.
Hi,
My KnockON functionality is acting up. It used to work fine, until 2 things I did to my phone. Is there a way to somehow reset/refresh the phone, without doing a factory reset? I don't want to lose the free wifi tether, because I'm on ZVC.
Details: I installed some Ingress timer app, and it somehow messed with the phone to where my phone sometimes ignores the wake-up when I tap twice on the screen. The phone is fine when I double-tap to sleep the screen. And sometimes it wakes up fine. Other times, I need to hold my finger down on the black/sleeping screen, and then it wakes (so that's just one tap and hold, instead of the usual double-tap, to wake the sleeping phone). Other times it could be that I tap several times, hold my hand on the screen, etc., and it might work. Then other times no tapping or holding will work, and I have to press the physical button to wake the phone. But I never have any trouble when I double-tap to sleep the phone, because I think the phone is fully awake at that point and able to detect each press correctly. So something is making my phone sleep so hardcore that it may ignore some screen taps. I have already tried using quickshortcut maker to launch the hidden KnockON menu, and toggled that on/off with resetting the phone in between, and also tried installing and uninstalling the Ingress timer app that led to this.
Just want to confirm that my situation is hopeless and I have no choice but to perform a factory reset, and then figure out how to get wireless tether later. But I'm worried that there is no mention whether people on ZVC have any options when it comes to free wifi tether after doing a factory reset on ZVC?
Is anyone using this feature? Worth using?
You should restart your phone once in a while, it will actually run better (if the phone is acting up first thing to do is restart). If it's worth? Depends on you, but for example I manually restart mine at least once a week as a habit, so for now that feature is off, if I change my habits then I put it on. On the other hand my wife never restarts hers, until she can't connect to make a call, so for her it would be very helpful.
Restarting your phone every now and than is not a bad idea...end of the day, it is a technology. Same reason I restart my modem every now and than (not once a week).
My mom on the other hand let her phone comes to the point, as stated above, till there is some problems. My solution? Restart. If you feel you will not remember...just enable it...i mean whats the worst thats going to happen?
I restart my phone every day. Not needed but it can't hurt.
Had a question about this.
Your phone is auto lock. If you - power button - restart. When it comes back on it askds for pin or patten before booting up.
How does this work with auto restart?
And i nornally try to reboot my phone once a week or if it starts to run slow.
But just wanted to know about tht
I don't have the auto restart option
It asks for pin password or pattern because all marshmallow devices that meet performance minimums come encrypted per googles policy When you first setup the phone any lock gets used for the already encrypted device.

So I don't have this because I have an actual lock screen with fingerprints or password?

I have fingerprint lock and I have auto restart available:
It wont work if you have sim card lock or password protected encrypted data, but the basic idea is: if your boot up holds requiring your password, obviously it won't work, since your phone wont be able to receive calls, SMS etc. until you input password and boot is finished, which could take hours with auto restart, you may not even know your phone is off.
My phone will fully boot up and receive calls etc., I just need to unlock it with fingerprint to activate screen.
This is my first phone ever that is locked and only because it was required for Samsung pay, despite the fact the credit card is encrypted and separately fingerprint protected (in other words won't work even with phone open unless I fingerprint again) so I'm not sure what's up with all this security paranoia, double password protection, secure folders, knox, full storage encryption etc. Pain in the neck and it's all only for show.
If I manually reboot It comes back to the home screen where I have to enter my password.
Where is the auto reboot setting?
