ANDROID Lollipop for GALAXY S5 general discussion (news&leaks&problems&expectations)
The Samsung Galaxy S5 may join the LG G3 in getting updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of this year. Earlier today, an LG rep apparently said as much regarding his company's current flagship smartphone.
Now though it looks like LG's arch-rival from its home country of South Korea doesn't want to be left behind. According to a new rumor, Samsung will start rolling out the Android 5.0 update for the Galaxy S5 sometime in December.
That's when the deployment will commence, though as usual it will take a few weeks for all regional versions of the S5 to get the new bits. Still, given that Google has yet to release a final variant of Lollipop, this would be a very fast update timeline for both the G3 and the S5, and the new software would come much sooner than for past flagships getting Android version bumps.
A test build of Lollipop for the Galaxy S5 got previewed a few weeks back, and since Samsung was clearly already working on the update at that time, the rumored release time frame may just pan out. We'll have to wait and see.

Just saw this: http://www.sammobile.com/2015/06/01/exclusive-samsung-to-start-rolling-out-android-5-1-1-lollipop-update-to-galaxy-note-4-by-the-end-of-july/
"Google revealed the developer preview of the next big version of its mobile device operating system – Android M – last week during Google I/O 2015, and the release of its final version is due in Q3 2015. Now, you must be thinking if Samsung is too slow in updating its existing smartphones and tablets to the latest version of Android.
Samsung has already improved its software update game starting this year, and it has already rolled out Lollipop update many existing devices. Now, Samsung is already testing beta versions of Android 5.1.1-based ROMs for various existing devices, and we’ve already shown you the upgraded camera app for the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge that will be released with Android 5.1.1 update for the devices.
Many Galaxy Note 4 users are impatiently waiting for Samsung to release Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the device. Well, here’s some good news for those guys. According to our highly placed sources, Samsung is planning to release Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to the Galaxy Note 4 by the end of July. As usual, we will be the first ones to show you the upcoming ROM running on the actual device."
:good:
5.1.1 was released on april 9 so this is somewhat fast considering that.
but never trust samsung and their time lines.

Says so right there. :good:
Good news
Do you also read that the new camera app will come to note 4 aswell?
I don't if it's indeed good news, I thought that we would get it by this month , can't wait to see sammobile do a preview , will we get the new touchwiz? The new camera app, the themes? So many questions :crying:
very keen to see that!

as an s6 edge user with note 4 i can say. new touchwiz is mostly same with what you are using on your note 4 with lollipop. but 1 exception performance of s6 is just sucks. insane ram usage, lags everywhere, crash etc. and people call it, its best touchwiz performance its basically a lie. its 1 of worst experiences i have ever had with an flagship device.
camera app just has different design capabilities are same pro mode is basically there for note 4 too.
only themes missing. others basically same.

Honestly I'm just hoping that the Note 5 is going to come with Android M out of the box at this point, because it truly makes a difference; in comparison to lollipop (5.1.1) on my Nexus 5 it's like night and day. Really fantastic update from google this time around.

i still didnt update my old nexus 5. ill try if its that different. i doubt note 5 will have android m out of the box. probably same thing will happen with note 4 and android m will release after note 5. hope it will be perfect on its release time unlike lollipop this year. 5.1.1 should have released as 5.0 last year so all companies could have done the updates fast and perfect.

I'm pretty sure that we'll get none of the features you mentioned.
I hope it is not another firmware number change & new theme to be used like the Lollipop 5.0.1
We need full active Lollipop the latest change in toggle, the new camera API 2 with RAW support & the new themes with other Galaxy S6 & Lollipop improvements.
not to forget battery life fix & RAM high usage.
for 32 bit or 64 bit matter I hope they activate 64 bit ability in Exynos version …………… that will be awesome.
Sadly, this update doesn't come with Camera 2 Api or S6 features. Just under the hood updates (memory bug fixes, etc).

How do you know ? I think IF they're ever going to release camera 2 for the Note 4, they're going to do it with 5.1.1 release
---------- Post added at 02:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 AM ----------
BTW I honestly feel the 5.1.1 update wasnt all that interesting (the CM users have been on it a while). The Nexus users reported some performance improvements but these were mainly due to kernel changes. So if Samsung did some good work there, it might be interesting. Otherwise, the 5.1.1. update is going to be quite a non event in my opinion.
I hope they include themes. As somebody on a non bootable US Carrier version, themes would at least allow me to stop looking at the same damn icons I've had on every Samsung device I've had over the last 5 years!

Looking at the latest reports from Samsung we won't be getting an official version, but I assume people will port from something similar or build from source all being well?
I think Android 10 can release for note 8 , samsung was change the updates policy ,but the bad think is it only change after note 8 release , so may or not get 3 updates... s9 and note 9 Will receive 3 os updates
Is their any official news abt note 8 getting A10?

No have any official News if will receive or not, but samsung only updates 2 major os , samsung change updates policy to 3 major os updates but after note 8 release..
The thing I've noticed about Samsung though is that even though the next version of Android is released, the new flagship seem to ALWAYS be released with the prior version of Android ( note 10 with pie, this should have been released with Android 10). This means about a month, 2 or 3 months on they Officially upgrade it and thus have fulfilled their commitment of one major upgrade. About a year later out comes the next major upgrade and that model has now been dropped from the upgrade program. Seems a bit of a con to me, now they do the 3 major upgrades this might actually mean support for the full 2 year life expectancy of our phones...
Hope not! Note 8 its prety stable with Pie 9.0! Realy hope Samsung do not update Note 8!

Lets just hope that Samsung won't suddenly push an OTA that would slowly kill the device / make this device a brick, I owned the Note Edge Exynos variant (The OTA for Android 6.0.1 and their security updates slowly killed the device). Hope this doesn't happen to Note8, I am using Android 9 OneUI 1.0 (February Security update :silly

If that's the case then Android 10 would definitely possible for the Note8 via Custom ROMs and stuff, but then again Note8 is newer than the S8 (why would they even think of doing that). I still kind of get it, cause I believe S10 kind of got the Beta for Android 10 before Note10.
Isn't there a way/possibility to port the lastest Android 10 & One UI 2.0 based Note 10+ Rom for our Note8?
"We don’t have a timeframe as to when Samsung will start rolling out the One UI 2.1 update for these devices, but it’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 series will have priority over their predecessors. There are two reasons for this: one is the obvious fact that the Galaxy S10/Note 10 are newer, and the other is that the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 have only recently made the jump to Android 10 and One UI 2.0.
One UI 2.1 brings relatively few changes
Certain One UI 2.1 features that work hand-in-hand with the newer hardware, such as the option to switch to 120Hz mode, won’t be available on older Galaxy devices even after the update. Obviously, there are technical limitations that prevent some features to be ported over to older models. But other UI changes like the additional Screen Zoom options and/or Samsung Quick Share should be made available on older phones via the One UI 2.1 update.
We’ll keep you up to speed as soon as we learn more about Samsung’s rollout plans for One UI 2.1 on the Galaxy S9, S10, Note 9, and Note 10 series. We should be getting new info on the matter over the course of the next couple of months."
I found this on Sam.
The new software is available for the Samsung S10 with the official OTA from Swizerland.
Anyone knows more like a developer way to have in on note 9 before official release?
Why you need earlier i mean this way you void Knox and other stuff it will like a custom rom and also it will come soon so i dont need to rush anyway. This way i will have it original from Samsung
I hope it zaps the bugs that presented with the initial Android 10 update.
I wish they'd make their video player remember the last used screen mode. Sucks having to press Stretch after starting each video.
I read that they will not update note 9 to One UI 2.1. is possible to update the note 9 in a unofficial way?

no more updates see this https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-galaxy-s9-one-ui-2-1-update-might-not-come/
This is ridiculous. We have a powerfull and expensive phone, from the most expensive line of Samsung. After only about 1.5 year from its release, Samsung will not update our device anymore?
Last "major" update. We'll still get security updates for awhile yet.
Updated Note9 to One UI 2.1 yesterday.
Does anyone know the apk file name for Samsung Music Share?
I searched via the web and looked through the packages via adb, but cannot figure out which one is Music Share.
Thank you!
Purchased S21 ultra from Best Buy as device upgrade for Tmobile line about 5 days ago. Device itself is Tmobile (verified by tmobile and their Samsung support). Problem is that it doesn't seem to be getting any update from Tmobile's servers. Contacted TM and they transferred to their Samsung support. Samsung support blamed tmobile and stated its their responsibility to push the update. Tmobile said to wait for 48-72 hours. Been waiting for a while now and no Android 12 update. I could update the firmware on my own using third party solutions but I shouldn't have to as there's risk involved with that. My return period from Best Buy will end soon. Need to figure out if this device will get the update or not. My S21 was on Android 12 for almost a month until I traded it in. Another family member has S21 Ultra and their device is also running 12. Need this figured out fast as my return period is ending soon. any help is appreciated.
Samsung has paused all updates at the moment as they try and fix some critical errors causing major problems.
Yeah Samsung has some burgs to work out so all updates are paused. And the Google pixel 6 n pro6 Google has frozen that update. You can sideload the update is you want to risk it.
Aah OK. I personally thought it was Tmobile's call since they are the ones modifying the OS right before it reaches the final consumers (adding their content such as visual VM, spam blocker, etc). Do you guys have any links by Samsung or Google where they officially state what you guys mentioned about halted updates? Thanks again.

I noticed that article earlier after the initial posts ... but if I recall correctly, it is only talking about specific market (Korea). Tmobile has already addressed the issues regarding Android 12. And can someone confirm that the updates should be coming from the carrier? On tmobile's website, they are not referring to any delays. In fact, their status is green for the complete S line up.
The update pause is for all regions, not just Korea.
[Update: Restarted] Samsung appears to have paused One UI 4.0 rollout for all devices
Samsung appears to have halted or paused the ongoing One UI 4.0 rollout for all Galaxy devices after problems and bugs plagued users.

Yes, the update is distributed by T-mobile however Samsung shapes it based on collaboration with individual Service Provider's. You won't know if the update is stable until it's installed. Why are you freaking out over not being able to receive an update which Samsung is pausing due to numerous bugs? Relax!
