Your bootloader is locked, I'm guessing you're on UBUBML3 firmware. The only way you can update (or install any other firmware for that matter) is to get official firmware for your pone that has been signed by Samsung. The AT&T 4.4.2 update will not work on your phone unfortunately, so you're going to have to get the update directly from Telcel.

hello...
please give me some help..
I am beginner on android, flashing and so on...
I have an S4 active, with 4.4.2 with Baseband version "I9295XXUCNI1".
I want to install the 5.0.1 version, but on sammobile, the only version available for "I9295XXUCNI1" is 4.4.2.
There is 5.0.1 available with PDA I9295XXUDOD3 and CSC I9295XXUDOD1..
Is it safe to install that room?

Yes, you can install nearly any of the firmwares from the sammobile site. If you're asking which firmware would be the best to flash to your device, it depends where you are located. The NI1 firmware is available for several different countries, so I would flash the firmware for your region, it should be optimized to best work on your networks.
update: I installed the DOD3... it worked!!

When you flash the firmware through Odin it will completely wipe the device, it doesn't matter if you're rooted or not.
thank you
but what if the S4 is locked to orange carrier?
The firmware I have downloaded is carrier free...
is there any problem?
I am afraid of bricking the phone.... I understood the root will not be a problem, but I am afraid of the lock carrier.... the baseband is not the same as the one installed on the phone now
So I have a Japanese model ME572CL which I flashed with WW lollipop firmware. I then downgraded and reflashed with pre-rooted lollipop following the guide on here. But now I would like to go back to the correct JP SKU firmware, the most recent version of which is V12.14.1.17 released last month, but I believe still 4.4.2 based. Can anyone tell me the correct steps to downgrade back to that firmware? Really grateful if anyone can help!
Sorry, please ignore this thread. I managed to get it done by myself and found that JP12.14.1.17 is infact lollipop. And there was an OTA update to JP12.14.1.19 too. So all good, now on Lollipop and Japanese. No way to root it, but nevermind.
I am wondering if I can downgrade my Samsung galaxy s5 active to "NE4" (The stock firmware which i can use towel root) from "0F3" (The newest firmware) does anyone know a guide or is it just not possible to downgrade/root once its at 0F3
I heard that the G900's cannot but the G870's can.
If the bootloader was updated to OF3, downgrading is almost certainly not possible. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/help/question-regarding-root-s5-active-t3185231 and http://androiding.how/how-to-keep-root-and-update-att-s5-active-to-of2-build/
The first link has instructions for finding out which firmware's bootloader is installed. The second link contains reports from people who attempted to downgrade from OF2 and OF3 bootloaders.
I suggest killing future OTA updates, in case a root exploit is found for your current firmware that doesn't exist in a future update.
I guess I don't understand why everyone is calling 6.0.1 "stock firmware" because it's not. Stock is what I bought the phone with (5.0.1). Does anyone have the firmware I can download. I can downgrade to 6.0.1 but unable to find 5.0.1 file. You would think if the phone got rooted for 5.0.1 it was be easy to get the firmware files
