Any chance you collected an url for the source? (if possible)
Upgrade Device Software for the Samsung Galaxy S5 (G900A)
No, I mean is there a way on an S5 to collect the actual OTA url used to download that file. On Nexus phones it is often used to help validate the OTA someone hosts. No offense, but I'm not trusting a random stranger that posts an "ota". I'd like to know if there is a way to confirm via a direct url from the vendor.
EDIT: As in this article - http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/05/download-nexus-ota-url-file/

Not necessarily but it will definately update your bootloader leaving you with no way to unbrick should something go wrong other than BestBuy or an ATT store. I am checking it out to see if there is a safe way to update and keep root. Stand by...
@muniz_ri
Sounds good.
@zenrage
I have no ideal how to pull up the OTA File URL.
I assure you the one I uploaded is a direct copy and paste from my / cache/ fota folder on my phone.

This is another 5.0 version and it is rootable. I will upload a new ROM to update and keeproot.
I just tried to collect the url, and failed. the logcat was dumping tons of data. And since it was my first attempt at logcat for this new device, I connected it only after the start of the download was flushed from the log. . I dare not interrupt the ongoing download, as I have no clue how Samsung/AT&T would handle an incomplete download.
Protip: if you gonna try to logcat the url - be frickin fast!
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but how would I update from OC4 to this new build? I'm using my att s5 with T-Mobile so I can't get ota's. Thanks!

Is your bootloader still OA1, or it got updated as well?
Bad juju
Stock, unrooted AT&T S5 on 5.0.
Just did the update and now all of my apps on the SD card show grayed and uninstalled.
All else looks OK. Any pearls of wisdom?
EDIT - rebooted on its own about 5 minutes later and hung at the "globe". Had to pull the battery to restart. Still no SD apps.
My wife just installed this (stock, unrooted) and she is having an issue with the phone waking up. Massive lag for it to do so. I'm think I'm gonna hold off for my rooted phone.

Of course I lost root and it is still 4.4.2, but I can not find any documentation on what changed. Has anyone else received this update?
Baseband version: M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20064
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Update: TowelRoot does not seem to work with this update!
also got it. its a 220+mb update.
I just got this update as well. I got the message that says it is downloaded and wants to install. I am rooted with TWRP installed now. I have read that some people have had problems and been bricked when they tried to install some updates in the past. For this reason, I went into the hidden menu and disabled OTAs. Guess that didn't work. Has anyone else taken this update being rooted with twrp successfully?
You won't be able to rooted or with custom recovery. Check out the meta-inf script. It will fail if any fishy is going on with your device. I'm going to edit it later tonight so I can post the flash able zip for us to update. All its really updating is the radio.img and a few other apks as well as some security updates.
Checked no update for me. In the Houston area. But read online it was for the VoLTE update and In Flight text messaging

Once we flash and update, towel root will work again? Someone said they couldn't get towel root to work after the update. For now I'm just playing around with cm11. If someone would get it or another ROM working pretty good, I'd just use it. I had planned on selling the flex and use my bump to get a nexus 6 through t-mobile. But if things get rolling a little around here. I'm happy with my flex. I wish there was more I could do but its over my head. My previous two devices were a Nexus and HTC they were easy compared to this.
How do you disable OTA updates?
Sent from my LG-D959 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I pulled out all the "abort install if blah blah blah" lines from the Meta-Inf folder and all the lines to install the priv-apps and just for my sake i took out the priv-apps since it would replace with .odex and im deodexed. Checked the updater script for any other "abort or security" crap. Didnt see anything else. So i repacked the update into a flashable.zip and flash away. It adds this really cool "SECURITY ERROR" Under the LG logo on boot up. And transforms the device into a temporary outrageously expensive paper weight.
So i rebooted into twrp and restored. So far a no go. I think after digging through it and seeing what all is in it.....im just gonna make a flashable of the new radio.img incase it upgrades ours and gets better service or picks up those techno tunes from Venus.
I had 2 back to back updates, but I ended with D95920m.
I accidentally downloaded the update. I actually don't even remember doing it. I just saw that it was successfully downloaded. It hasn't updated yet. Is there anything i can do to get rid of it? I don't want to lose root. I don't have a custom recovery installed. I only have root access as that is typically all that I need.
Also, any chance anyone has tried to use towelroot on this after it breaks root? EDIT: Never mind, just saw the OP's update that towelroot will not work. F this. I need to get rid of this phone.
I renamed the file that it downloaded, so at least now it is just asking me to download the update again. I also installed a TWRP in the mean time. I guess I just need to disable updates now.
I am in the same situation... Can you please tell me where the update is downloaded to? I need to rename mine as well in case I were to accidentally hit install update.
How do you get the update notification to go away?
I have seen the option to hide it in one of the xposed modules, but can't remember which one...

I dont have lgdmsclient.apk either. I have the T-mobile (d959) model.
Hey guys, I just checked my At&t GS5 for updates and I had an available update to take. It was approximately 295 MB and it changed the bootloader from OC4 to OF2, however, my android version is still 5.0.
I've searched xda, I've called At&t, and I've been on Google and I cannot find anything on today's small update that changed my bootloader from OC4 to OF2.
My question is this:
Does anybody know what the current version of lollipop is supposed to be for the At&t galaxy s5 SM-G900A, and does anybody know why AT&T would push out such a small update that changes the bootloader? I'm not trying to root- when I get back into rooting, I'll use a non carrier branded phone or a model without a locked bootloader.
I realize that 5.1.1 is confirmed on the att galaxy s5 at some point, but I'm very confused about today's update that I took. I'm still on android 5.0 and I keep hitting brick walls regarding the SM-G900A, it's current version of lollipop, and what this update that I received today that changed my bootloader /build from OC4 to OF2.
Will someone please explain how this works? If they updated the bootloader today, 7/1 /15, and I'm still on 5.0, could it mean that 5.1 is around the corner?
I'm asking because I've never seen an update that changed the build number and bootloader, but didn't change the android version running on the phone.
Thanks yall.
No information on the update, if I were to guess this is to patch the Samsung Keyboard vulnerability.
Though it's over 200MB and I'm probably completely wrong
Maybe I can dream that AT&T decrypted the bootloader?
It's weird...Im on 5.0 but not on the OC4 bootloader any longer...it wasn't a very big update.
M2490311, Would you mind checking to see if it did patch the keyboard vulnerability?
To check to see if you're vulnerable to this exploit:
Download a terminal emulator from the play store and type:
Code:
ls -l /system/app/SamsungIME*
If you see a line that looks like:
Code:
-rw-r--r-- root root 7243414 2008-08-01 07:00 SamsungIME.apk
and the date is older than July 1, 2015 , it did not patch the vulnerability.
Also, if you do check to see if it was patched, could you take a screenshot of the terminal?
Code:
About this update:
Real Upgrade from OC4 to OF2
Thanks AT&T
Looks like it's been patched up, date changed but it's still old.

Even if it's not the same date, as long as it's older than 2015, I think the vulnerability should still be active. Taken from NowSecure's website,"While Samsung began providing a patch to mobile network operators in early 2015, it is unknown if the carriers have provided the patch to the devices on their network." So it appears that Samsung themselves didn't even start working on a patch until 2015.
See attached.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I entered both values posted earlier using the android terminal emulator, and this is what I am getting:
Sorry about the repeat screenshots, I couldn't tell them apart by thumbnails. I hope this helps and again, I apologize for the delay for the poster requesting screenshots
So now my question is what does this mean. It's my understanding (I may be wrong but I keep seeing conflicting info that's not up to date when I search it) that at this point in time, you can't Odin back from 5.0 to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4. I'm also under the impression that root is either nonexistent with the GS5 SM-900A or its a tedious process that isn't simple like towelroot. I wonder if this is going to affect root ability, and downgrade ability to attain root as well.
But then again, I was running the Sickness v6 on my s4 and safesstrap literally just ceased to work and my phone bricked itself. The entire OS crashed so I went to the att store, upgraded to the s5 and they reflashed the s4. But on my s5, Knox isn't capable of being device admin, and my s5 acts as though it's been rooted. I use a different security suite than knox, but I recall reading that if you root and flash a custom rom, and have the official stock firmware put back on, that knox won't work on your phone. This s5 has not been rooted unfortunately but the knox thing is making me wonder if something on my SD card transmitted an STD.
I think I'll be sick if root was attained with ease and I missed it by a mile in my searches on the OC4 bootloader and now that I'm on OF2, I'm screwed if I want root.
That is strange that it's not found.. I'm sorry I don't know what to make of it. I would have expected to see it updated but not missing

You know what? I think that I can get back into rooting if I complain about this s5 that's under warranty, and get a replacement that is on kitkat, and I can just work my way back up to an L based TouchWiz rom on the replacement.
My knox is weird....it's like it wasn't baked in, and is only available for download on Google play, and I have a few apps that are not visible on the google play store on other devices. Unless I'm losing my mind. I have Contra Evolution that's Konami based and if I search it on the store, its gone, but it's still in my saved apps. I'm gonna feel really dumb if I'm rooted and don't know it.

They know because it says on the Ping Pong Root thread not to update for anything past May 15th as the method for root has been patched
I'm curious if there are any other undocumented changes besides the 2 official changes listed earlier. It feels like a fairly big patch for a fix to an phone location and a kernel security fix.

AT&T Software Update is the main one, but there are a few others - I don't have an AT&T ROM on mine right now to help out, but it's been posted a few times already (I think I even posted those once)
Just freeze att software update. Then it can't even run so no downloads. I got lucky I clicked on update after reading it in Android central but didn't want to install it. Postponed couple of times but somehow it automatically loaded the update process. I was like sh#t. When it booted up it said a problem updating. And then I blocked the updater. most likely the stagefright fix..
The S6 (non-Edge) is getting an update today as well. Likely the same OF4 security enhancement for Stagefright that the Active received some time ago.
I just finished installing it. Only change I can tell so far is the stagefright fix (the detector app now reports my phone as secure, whereas a couple of days ago it didn't)
I assume the process is unroot, apply update, reroot? Or does this patch PingPongRoot too?
I don't think you can regain root access after you update beyond OF3. PingPong only works on versions prior to OF3. I purchased my S6 Edge with OF3 already installed on it. Very bummed and optimistically wishing someone will find a way to root OF3 and beyond. I hope they are not making it more and more difficult to root with these new "mandatory" updates that the phone apparently updates without consent. It gives you the ability to "postpone" the update but at one point or another applies the update automatically.
Ugh well I mistakenly updated tonight thinking the latest version was e2.
I attempted ping-pong root beta 6 and it failed.
At a loss. Please update me if anyone finds a new root method.

do a odin update to OF3. afterwards you are supposed to get OF4.
Would someone grab the OTA update (before applying). dkcheung on the regular S6 forum wants a FlashFire modified version to keep PingPong root. Already have the OF3 Odin files necessary, just need the OTA to be able to patch the modem.bin and boot.img as well as fix up the OTA for FlashFire.

OE2 to OF3 by designgear: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-flashfire-update-t3156221
G920AUCU2AOF3 -> G920AUCU2AOF4 Updater (for users rooted since OE2 PingPong root)
This is a modified version of the official OTA.
Upgrade from OF3 to OF4
Retains Root
Retains OE2 Bootloader
Retains OE2 Recovery
All checks removed (deleted, modified system files won't be patched, but it won't break the entire patching process)
If you unroot while on OF4 you will have to downgrade to OE2 kernel with Odin and use PingPong root.
Edited files WILL NOT be updated, they're skipped instead of breaking the entire update process like the stock OTA. If you want to update those files they need to be returned to stock OE2.
This has been verified to not trip the KNOX warranty bit.
Download and unzip "S6-OF3 to OF4 Update.7z," extract G920AUCU2AOF3-OF4.zip to your sdcard.
In Flashfire select "Flash ZIP or OTA"
Select G920AUCU2AOF3-OF4.zip from your sdcard
Change the reboot option to download mode.
Leave all other settings default and flash.
After it has flashed, reboot to download mode (if not done via FlashFire, press and hold home, power, and volume down) and use Odin to flash the updated kernel and modem.
In Odin put boot.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
Put modem.tar.md5 in the CP slot.
Leave all other settings alone and click start.
Once the phone has rebooted you should be on OF4.

Sadly, no. Edge's latest build number is G925AUCU2AOF4 and Active is G890AUCU2AOF4.
If anyone can provide me me the OTA zip (located /cache/fota/XXX.cfg) as well as the modem.bin and boot.img from OF3 (likely provided in any of the FlashFire modified updates released, if not will need the latest Odin images plus any OTA updates since to patch to OF4), I can modify the OTA and patch the images for you guys.

That'll do. If you can grab the OTA (have the instructions above), I'll modify and patch everything up for you. The process is pretty simple, but keep in mind I don't have a device to test it on before posting.

Just looked, and it appears that the S6 Active was never susceptible to PingPong exploit.
That means to get root on the Active would require tripping the KNOX warranty bit (until another viable exploit is found).
If you've already done that and just want the OTA update, I can do that!
Just a dumb question but I thought I saw somewhere DG mentioned something along the lines of loading the OE2 kernel for the active, is that possible with the new boot loader to obtain root for the Active folks? Sorry don't mean to high jack the thread. (Personally don't care if knox is tripped)
Flashed on S6 , working good thxs
Two questions
Thank you so much for this! I have two questions: 1. Will this work with a deodexed rom and 2. If I reflash OE2 firmware with Odin, will my s6 be completely downgraded to OE2?

Just FYI: I'm on Cleanrom 1.1 and had done the flashfire update to OF3. I used this to update to OF4 without a problem, but I'm still showing to be vulnerable to the stagefright exploit. Any reason why the update wouldn't have patched that? It shows that I'm on OF4 on the device.

Google wasn't able to patch all of the CVE stagefright exploits in the first round. Some more have appeared.
Check out this article that explains it all: http://phandroid.com/2015/08/17/psa-your-android-phone-may-still-have-stagefright-vulnerability-even-if-it-was-patched/
I'm sure OF5 will come out soon enough to resolve this.

Ok, cool. Just send me the OTA zip plus the Odin files leading up to the OTA, and we will be good to go. I have the Edge one prepped (already extracted the boot.img and modem.bin from the Oden files) so just waiting on the OTA there.

No, this won't work with a deodexed ROM as this patches odex files amongst others. It's meant for only original ROMs and OTAs as it is simply a modification to the original OTA.
If your recovery and bootloader are still at OE2, then yes it will be completely downgraded to OE2. In that case, use designgear's OE2 to OF3 update then this update to go to OF4.

Sadly, not possible... Sorry!
Can somebody please post a pic of their "about phone" page? I want to compare my kernel, modem etc to someone who has flashed this.
