99% of this is copied and pasted from designgears's post for his great job on the FlashFire OF3 update.
OE2 to OF3 by designgear: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-flashfire-update-t3156221
G920AUCU2AOF3 -> G920AUCU2AOF4 Updater (for users rooted since OE2 PingPong root)
This is a modified version of the official OTA.
Upgrade from OF3 to OF4
Retains Root
Retains OE2 Bootloader
Retains OE2 Recovery
All checks removed (deleted, modified system files won't be patched, but it won't break the entire patching process)
If you unroot while on OF4 you will have to downgrade to OE2 kernel with Odin and use PingPong root.
Edited files WILL NOT be updated, they're skipped instead of breaking the entire update process like the stock OTA. If you want to update those files they need to be returned to stock OE2.
This has been verified to not trip the KNOX warranty bit.
Download and unzip "S6-OF3 to OF4 Update.7z," extract G920AUCU2AOF3-OF4.zip to your sdcard.
In Flashfire select "Flash ZIP or OTA"
Select G920AUCU2AOF3-OF4.zip from your sdcard
Change the reboot option to download mode.
Leave all other settings default and flash.
After it has flashed, reboot to download mode (if not done via FlashFire, press and hold home, power, and volume down) and use Odin to flash the updated kernel and modem.
In Odin put boot.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
Put modem.tar.md5 in the CP slot.
Leave all other settings alone and click start.
Once the phone has rebooted you should be on OF4.

Sadly, no. Edge's latest build number is G925AUCU2AOF4 and Active is G890AUCU2AOF4.
If anyone can provide me me the OTA zip (located /cache/fota/XXX.cfg) as well as the modem.bin and boot.img from OF3 (likely provided in any of the FlashFire modified updates released, if not will need the latest Odin images plus any OTA updates since to patch to OF4), I can modify the OTA and patch the images for you guys.

That'll do. If you can grab the OTA (have the instructions above), I'll modify and patch everything up for you. The process is pretty simple, but keep in mind I don't have a device to test it on before posting.

Just looked, and it appears that the S6 Active was never susceptible to PingPong exploit.
That means to get root on the Active would require tripping the KNOX warranty bit (until another viable exploit is found).
If you've already done that and just want the OTA update, I can do that!
Just a dumb question but I thought I saw somewhere DG mentioned something along the lines of loading the OE2 kernel for the active, is that possible with the new boot loader to obtain root for the Active folks? Sorry don't mean to high jack the thread. (Personally don't care if knox is tripped)
Flashed on S6 , working good thxs
Two questions
Thank you so much for this! I have two questions: 1. Will this work with a deodexed rom and 2. If I reflash OE2 firmware with Odin, will my s6 be completely downgraded to OE2?

Just FYI: I'm on Cleanrom 1.1 and had done the flashfire update to OF3. I used this to update to OF4 without a problem, but I'm still showing to be vulnerable to the stagefright exploit. Any reason why the update wouldn't have patched that? It shows that I'm on OF4 on the device.

Google wasn't able to patch all of the CVE stagefright exploits in the first round. Some more have appeared.
Check out this article that explains it all: http://phandroid.com/2015/08/17/psa-your-android-phone-may-still-have-stagefright-vulnerability-even-if-it-was-patched/
I'm sure OF5 will come out soon enough to resolve this.

Ok, cool. Just send me the OTA zip plus the Odin files leading up to the OTA, and we will be good to go. I have the Edge one prepped (already extracted the boot.img and modem.bin from the Oden files) so just waiting on the OTA there.

No, this won't work with a deodexed ROM as this patches odex files amongst others. It's meant for only original ROMs and OTAs as it is simply a modification to the original OTA.
If your recovery and bootloader are still at OE2, then yes it will be completely downgraded to OE2. In that case, use designgear's OE2 to OF3 update then this update to go to OF4.

**You can begin the following process from 4.4.x Build/ROM or higher but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
**Caution!** The following process is only for the I537 AT&T S4 "Active" variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Download:
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC7_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM
Pevious Builds:
- I537_OC6_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- I537_OC6_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the I537_OC7_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the AT&T splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (15 - 20mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- I537_OC7_TetherAddOn
- I537_OC6_TetherAddOn (Flash using FF's "Flash zip or ota" option.
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

First of all, thank you thank you thank you so much for this. Yeah I grabbed you the OTA's but thanks to you (and of course Chainfire & his FlashFire) we can go from KK to LP with root. And on day one of the OTA. Awesome. :good: So down to business, and I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself or barking up the wrong tree, but hear me out on this one. @Joe-Tech was generous enough to port his regular S4 Google Play Edition (Pure Nexus) 4.4.4 Rom over to our phone. Could we repeat that for this OC6 build, using say, this rom as a base (or another if that turns out to be incompatible for whatever reason)? I doubt I have the expertise to pull that off but if it would help I'd get to work on another masterpatch and speaker phone fix

Only way im thinking to boot the new LP ROM, is to use @muniz_ri method so we can upgrade and keep root. So now we going to be on the OC6 kernel and baseband, since the gpe can boot without flashing the kernel. Then we can flash the GPE 5.x ROM, either with safestrap or FlashFire, and we can also use Odin to flash the stock kernel/partitions. But too bad none of them worked for me after the upgrade, FF will sit there for ever try to get root permission.

Just had a thought, probably nothing. When doing the kitkat to lollipop update to keep root with flashfire, would it help anything to convert flashfire to a system app before doing the update? Sorry if this is a stupid question

I don't think it will make any difference.
@muniz_ri: This is great, thanks for all your work on this. As I understand it, this method will update you to OC6 with root if the original firmware was already rooted. So my question is then, if a user has already taken the OC6 update and would like to root afterwards is it currently impossible? Is the only way to root OC6 to downgrade back to NE3, root, and then follow your instructions to update to OC6 with root?
I'm guessing a root vulnerability hasn't been found for the Samsung 5.0 firmware yet, but I just wanted to check.
Also, I posted this in the other thread, but has anybody actually downgraded from OC6 to NE3 successfully? I don't want to give people wrong information.
Okay, I need some help here. I'm not quite understanding this:
1. Extract the I537_OC6_Stock_Rooted_Firmware.tar from the .rar and place it and the I537_OC6_Stock_Partitions.zip onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
Place what where? I used WinRAR to extract the file? What is the OC6 stock partition?

Extract the tar from the rar. Leave the zip as is. Copy the tar and the zip to your phone's internal memory or external SD card, somewhere it'll be easy for you to find

Correct, you will need to go back to NE3 then use towelroot before starting this process. And yes, the aboot qfuse counter determines whether or not you can downgrade. I checked it and it does allow for downgrading.

Great thanks, one more question: Would it be possible to use something similar to W0lfdroids method of rooting? So on stock OC6, flash the NE3 kernel (since downgrading is possible), root with Towelroot, the flash back to the OC6 kernel. Just thinking about it I'm guessing it wouldn't work because you wouldn't be able to boot 5.0 with a 4.4.2 kernel, but I figured I'd ask.

Any chance I can implore you to try it since there will inevitably be a bunch of people already on the OC6 firmware asking how to root it and will get pissed when they find they have to wipe their phone? Or maybe you could just provide the stock OC6 kernel and I can convince @thisisapoorusernamechoice to give it a shot?
For what it's worth, just went through the process in post 1. Everything went fine, but after the Galaxy S4 boot screen, it goes black and stays. I can boot to download mode and stock recovery, so it's not a major issue, and likely something I did. I'll mess with it a bit more then Odin back to stock and start over.

So I'm seeing where @designgears has taken the most recent update OF3 and merged it with a previous version that is rooted (I'm way over simplifying because this is so beyond my pay grade).
OF3 is the same update the AT&T Active just received.
So would it be possible to Odin back to that previously rootable version, then apply designgears update? Assuming I don't care about Knox and warrant... Or would I just end up with a brick?
Im willing to try it if someone with more experience can outline the exact steps.

If you have taken OF3 update I am pretty sure you can't odin back due to them patching the pingpong root expoit. You can try to flash just the OE2 kernel and try pingpong root as well. I am 99% sure that once you update to the OF3 bootloader you are stuck on OF3 without root.
If someone has the OTA of OF3 I can make the same flashable like I did with the S6.
I'm pretty sure the active shipped with an update kernel already regardless of OF3 or earlier. And the kernel patch is what blocked the ping pong root.
I have the active too and even before the update couldn't find anything on a valid root. But I also didn't try.

Alright, I've taken the OF3 OTA update already...it's a done deal. Do I have the OTA files laying around somewhere on my phone still?
And assuming you can make a flashable file from an OF3 OTA file, that would give me a safety net if I attempted to ODIN an early S6 OE2, yes?
So brick or not, I could test this hypothesis and get back to a stock unrooted pro ably with a blown Knox fuse?

No, I mean is there a way on an S5 to collect the actual OTA url used to download that file. On Nexus phones it is often used to help validate the OTA someone hosts. No offense, but I'm not trusting a random stranger that posts an "ota". I'd like to know if there is a way to confirm via a direct url from the vendor.

Not necessarily but it will definately update your bootloader leaving you with no way to unbrick should something go wrong other than BestBuy or an ATT store. I am checking it out to see if there is a safe way to update and keep root. Stand by...

I just tried to collect the url, and failed. the logcat was dumping tons of data. And since it was my first attempt at logcat for this new device, I connected it only after the start of the download was flushed from the log. . I dare not interrupt the ongoing download, as I have no clue how Samsung/AT&T would handle an incomplete download.
Protip: if you gonna try to logcat the url - be frickin fast!

I also did it on my G870A and my root is still working.

Is your bootloader still OA1, or it got updated as well?
Bad juju
Stock, unrooted AT&T S5 on 5.0.
Just did the update and now all of my apps on the SD card show grayed and uninstalled.
All else looks OK. Any pearls of wisdom?
EDIT - rebooted on its own about 5 minutes later and hung at the "globe". Had to pull the battery to restart. Still no SD apps.
My wife just installed this (stock, unrooted) and she is having an issue with the phone waking up. Massive lag for it to do so. I'm think I'm gonna hold off for my rooted phone.

If I download this, I can sideload it thru adb to do the update? I'm not on wifi so I can't take the OTA.

most likely the stagefright fix..
The S6 (non-Edge) is getting an update today as well. Likely the same OF4 security enhancement for Stagefright that the Active received some time ago.
I just finished installing it. Only change I can tell so far is the stagefright fix (the detector app now reports my phone as secure, whereas a couple of days ago it didn't)
I assume the process is unroot, apply update, reroot? Or does this patch PingPongRoot too?
I don't think you can regain root access after you update beyond OF3. PingPong only works on versions prior to OF3. I purchased my S6 Edge with OF3 already installed on it. Very bummed and optimistically wishing someone will find a way to root OF3 and beyond. I hope they are not making it more and more difficult to root with these new "mandatory" updates that the phone apparently updates without consent. It gives you the ability to "postpone" the update but at one point or another applies the update automatically.
Ugh well I mistakenly updated tonight thinking the latest version was e2.
I attempted ping-pong root beta 6 and it failed.
At a loss. Please update me if anyone finds a new root method.
definitely i guess i will just wait for it
could someone grab this OTA please and upload it. i need it to fix a phone.

does anybody have a system dump for this update?
Man, I'm still stuck on G925AUCU1A0C9. I have yet to receive ANY update since I got it on launch day.

do a odin update to OF3. afterwards you are supposed to get OF4.
Would someone grab the OTA update (before applying). dkcheung on the regular S6 forum wants a FlashFire modified version to keep PingPong root. Already have the OF3 Odin files necessary, just need the OTA to be able to patch the modem.bin and boot.img as well as fix up the OTA for FlashFire.

The file will be located in /cache/fota/XXXX.cfg (in reality, it's a zip file)
I can't access that directory without root

I am assuming he can root OF3 OTA when he gets the update, in which case we can then pull OF4 OTA and root that update as well. Unfortunately, my phone isn't pulling the OF3 update to post so if anyone could send him the file that would be awesome.
@wesgarner thank you for the help, I will send you the file if my phone pulls down the update (phone says up to date as of now) as soon as I can get it.
Hoping this is what you need. This is the OTA update I got while being on OE2.

there is no known root method for OF3 and later firmware. There is also no known way to roll Back To earlier firmware if you arrived at OF3 via OTA updates.

"OF3 via OTA updates" stupidly I updated a bestbuy I suppose this doesn't make a difference? Also is there a link where we can keep updated on 0f3 root?

No, if you reached OF3 via official updates without prior root, you're committed. No known way of rolling back and no current root.
Just monitor the general and development subforums here - if a new root exploit is found it will be big news around here. However, I personally don't expect to ever see root for 5.x. MAYBE if/when we get MM something might materialize, but there is very little đeveloper interest left in this variant because it's so locked down. Plus we're now half way through its life cycle. I'm certainly not counting on it.

I've been lurking around this week. I saw devs in GSMHosting talking (here and here) about [KERNEL] UniKernel v8-0002 COH9 [G920 /925] being compatible to G920A.
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Those methods appears to require either a downgrade to 5.0.2. Which, as indicated, triggered an sboot error, or flashing unikernel, which is not possible on the 920a due to locked bootloader. Unless something has changed recently (which would have likely been well publicised here) neither of these proposed methods appear to work.
While it's possible unikernel is compatible with 920a, we have no way to flash it.
