I have a HP Touchpad 32gb. I am a novice and I know enough to be dangerous. I had the same problem as everyone else- no charge and a dead tablet. I figured it was a goner and bought a Samsung 10.1. I came across my old HP and decided to see if there was a solution. I used the J Sullens debrick. I got through it and I am now stuck on the language screen. Won't respond to touch and I can't get any further. I have read the threads about OS doctor and all. I have downloaded everything but I'm in over my head. Would like to change to Android, but I'm at a stand still right now. Can anyone give me specific newbie instructions to get this device operating. Computer does not recognize it as a USB device, but I hear the tones as something being connected to the computer. When I extract files it shows as a F drive. I know I am close. And at this point I'm on a mission.

Hey Xda,
I'm certainly not a newbie to flashing/modding but this one puzzles me quite a bit:
Today I got a Galaxy Note from a good friend of mine, the device is still running on stock ROM and has never been rooted.
When I try to boot up the device you'll hear the usual boot sound and after a while the softkeys backlights will light up, while the screen won't. My friend reported to me that he had issues in the past connecting the device to any given windows PC, as they won't even recognize the device. I however can't verify this as I'm using arch Linux on almost all of my workstations.
The main objectives are:
- backing up the entire internal storage, because my friend produces music and there are lots of samples/unfinished tracks on this device
-eventually get this device working again.
The main problem is deciding whether the device has defective hardware or just somehow screwed up firmware.
The gameplan so far is backing the device up via adb if nothing else is working and then reflash the whole damn thing, if there is still no improvement I guess the hardware is to blame.
Any constructive advices on your end? It would be much appreciated as this seems to be a fairly common problem. Anyways I'll keep you up to date
Are there any touch haptic responses on the screen? Then this could be an issue of corrupt or wrong bootloader installed.
Try booting into recovery and/or download mode.
And check for a battery icon while charging and off.
A problem with the boot loader on stock android without even root sounds unlikely.
If the screen stays black, i thinks its very likely that the connector from the display came loose.
lucky you, the note is not that hard to take apart, and the connection should snap back in no problem. In fact, i think that should be stap one, check the connection.
About connecting to the pc, that could be more difficult. From the description i think the usb board is in need of replacement. Also a relatively common, cheap and easy fix, but make sure you get the same revision as the one you have now.

Another idea would be to connect an mhl cable and use that to see what should be on the screen. This depends on the usb port being fine, but may be worth trying anyway.
So for the purpose of continuity I'll post any useful links I used along the way.
At first I'll back the device up. This will be no problem as adb works just fine on my Linux box with this device. The next step would be trying this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25202942&postcount=7
If that does not work I'm assuming defective hardware/or bad connection due to dust. I'll disassemble the device like this:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N6CJy7...kZ4-Yg&usg=AFQjCNGp378LsVHTIBkf62THSVDqsWM7uQ
And clean up the connector/ribbon plug with isopropyl alcohol
I managed to reset my old account so I'll be posting from this one, not to cause any confusion...
if you are getting charging animation
or galaxy note logo on bootup
then you need to flash an alternate kernel or reflash original
else forsure there's something went wrong with your hardware
hey guys, title pretty much says it all. my phone isnt recognized by and computer or OS ive tried plugging it into. itll charge, but thats it. no data transfer. it isnt even recognized in fastboot, meaning if anything ever happened and i didnt have a backup, id by pretty screwed. and help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi mate,
Have you tried other usb cables? Sometimes cable spoiled, the data part is not working it only charge the phone.
My usual recommendation - WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit has an excellent walk-through of Pc driver setup.

The Micro USB port is bad. Mine is exactly the same and no Quick Charge too. If it's still under warranty, Moto will replace it. They replaced mine with new IMEI. I understand there no way just to replace the port. Need to replace the whole motherboard. It's took about 10days to get it back for me. Well I just got this N6 from AZ Warehouse Deal about a month ago. I'd have to Return to AZ but couldn't give up this good deal.
Sadly, I don't believe it is, I got this thing A relatively short time after it came out. I guess I just have to hold out until I can get a new phone. Which makes me kind of sad, as this is the best phone I've ever owned
You have checked your driver setup, right? NRT is a great help in getting the PC set up properly.
It is likely because by default Android is set to charge only. You have to plug it into the USB, open phone, pull down the notification panel, select file transfer (mtp), and you should be good to go.
Edit: I used to have issues charging or file transfer, but I simply had to clean the charging port. It got clogged up with pocket lint. I found a hard thin plastic (like used in various retail packaging uses) cut into a small pick shape. Don't use anything metal because it could short out. Compressed air doesnt seem to do a very good job.
try Airdroid
hey guys, update, problem fixed. dont know how, but there was lint gathered in the charging port preventing the data exchange via usb. took a toothpick and scraped it out, no more problems. recongnized by my computer and adb/ fasboot works again. honestly, a little embarrassed that i hadnt figured that out in the first place, but i am pleased to report my phone is saved. thanks for all the suggestions.
I have recently purchased a uniker case with screen its 2.2inch and has six buttons as well reall cool so far ive got the raspbarian.img for it working really cool, and i downloaded a retropie.tft.img worked as well but ive become more interested in other distros such as kali or ubuntu and i cant seem to get the jist of installing other distros and getting the screen to work with them! Really would like to get this to work no guidance or assistance from anywhere theres no uniker website the people selling them on amazon say to just use the img provided but once a update is ran boom no more raspbian on screen. Theres some info on the raspiwiki but useless for linux distros if im reading everything correctly from everywhere i go for info. I have downloaded and ran the kalipi.tft.img my 2.2inch stays white and my hdmi shows giant rainbow square idk whats up with that but have red up on it a lil appears every single time i download the img it becomes corrupt have used multiple computers for downloading as well as phones tablets and such even other networks routers to obtain this tft img from kali but no go so far.
Perhaps my screen is too small idk
My next move is to try ubuntu for pi in tft img to see if i get same results but had my hopes up for kali
Any help would be greatly appreciated also am a noob but i catch on very quick and will listen and learn as much as possible to any help offered.
I have a teensy problem. I flashed the wrong bootloader. Now, if I need a doorstop or booster seat, I'm grand, but as far apping it up browsing down, I think I'm finished. Here's the scoop:
Black screen, no logo
Will not switch on
Not recognized on device manager
I've a factory cable, have tried kindle fire first aide, kindle fire utility, and kindle unbrick v1.1 but none prevailed. Always 'waiting for device'.
A little context for your amusement: The kindle was a hand-me-down from a friend for xmas who's upgraded, and is constantly asking me how I'm doing with it? 'Oh, yeah, I LOVE it. Adore it. Can't be parted from it. I especially like the part where the cable clicks in sweetly, then the silence, and then me yelling and spitting in frustration. Because I bricked it. But yeah, love it, thanks.' By heck, do I suck.
So really, do I keep banging my head against a wall, or do I just get a second hand one off ebay? I'm loathe to start taking the back off and short stuff out.
Go on... do your worst....
Hi Guys,
I'm trying desperately to try and revive my HP Touchpad.... Purely because it won't turn on, and I can't find ANY other budget Tablet as a suitable replacement!!! Heck, even Touchpads now are selling 3x times the price I paid for mine new....
So basically I've seen and read MILLIONS of threads, where the batteries have died, and people are reviving them through different means. I've tried EVERYTHING.... All they key-combo's, different chargers, different cables, and plugging it into a PC.... sometimes Ive even left the Touchpad on for days, like nearly a week. Still no life.....
All posts Ive read, that talk about reviving dead Touchpads... all still mentioned they have a flashing light on the Home Button. Whether it be blinking, or flashing from side to side... - Where as on my one, I DON'T HAVE ANY LIGHT at all on it, nothing. Has anyone else had this, and still been able to revive it... or is it dead DEAD, and I should just give up??
I don't get it, as I've not misused it or anything... and not left it to drain for massive amount of time, not compared to some of the stories Ive read. I don't believe its dead dead.... as it's still somewhat detected in Windows.
Depending on what keys I've pressed, it either shows up as Palm! (yellow explanation mark) or comes up with some other name in CAPITALS which I cant remember right now...
What are my options??
1) Does flashing the A6 firmware work, and will this wipe the data? Like everything... including dual / triple boot?
2) Can I still WebDoctor it? Baring in mind, HP have turned their servers off... So even if it does flash the firmware, I assume I can't log in afterwards??
Many thanks,
Lister
