I'm holding out hope to see if there will be a release of the 32GB version of the S5. My HTC One X has been driving me crazy with bad battery life! I'm so ready to just buy the S5 but trying to be patient and wait out the 32GB model. Just curious if Anton DE else is waiting or if you're all just going for it?

Personally, I never felt the need for anything over 16gb. All my previous phones have been 16gb's and I never even came close to filling them up...and that was with music and pics on the internal storage. This time, I have a 32gb SD card for all of that...so I'm set. :good:
It all depends on your personal needs. I know those who were wanting the 32gb model were/are hoping it'll be released in the 2 week return time-frame, but I doubt it, unfortunately. It definitely does suck that they screw over those people.
I'm waiting. Thus will be my work phone, which means I have to buy through my company and can only get a new phone every 18 months.i want to make sure I have room for apps, mail, etc... My S3 only stays at about 1G free through regular pruning.
I just bought a 64GB memory card, problem solved. If I somehow use all that space I know the phone will support up to 128... so no use in waiting honestly and I didn't. Using my S5 now.

You do realize that the real reason most people wait is because apps really don't move to the SD card anymore right? That means your stuck with the 7 or 8 gigs you have on your phone no matter if you bought yourself a SD card or not for your apps and various other stuff that need to physically be on your phones memory.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
Yup 16 gig is definitely not enough. 32 gig is decent but Samsung has so much features/bloat the phone only really comes with a limited amount of memory. I remember having the 32 gig s4 and even though it was 32 it still wasn't enough memory. I put a bunch of music on my phone.

The phone comes with 10.5 GB of memory on board. An SD card could hold all your pictures, music, documents, and even some apps. That's plenty of space on your phone for apps.

Thanks for all the replies, I believe I'm going to just hang in there with my crappy battery life until the 32GB shows up.

My thoughts exactly. The only reason I could see someone needing more space is for the big games...and maybe a select few of the bigger GPS apps. I never install any games, so that doesn't affect me and Google Maps works perfectly fine for me. Different strokes for different folks, though
If your in the same situation as me and do not have an upgrade available, then it's already expensive enough to get a 16. Much more cost effective to get 16 and ExSD.

Hi,
I meant to say LOOK at the Z2. Not saying it's a better phone, not yet anyway.
Prices are all similar with the top phones. I'd also be interested in a GPE of the S5.
Or the new LG coming out later in summer, who knows, I have till August to end
my term with ATT.

Yessir, I am. I have a 32gb S4, so the S5 better come out with it at a minimum. I would love a 128gb internal...
When I got my S4 I waited for the 32Gb version. My 16Gb S3 almost always had the sdcard full and I would have to delete stuff sometimes for Roms and such to download. I personally would not go back to a 16Gb version.
My biggest reason is this. If you get root and put on a ROM (hopefully in the future) and want to have 1 nandroid backup then that backup is about 4+Gb's. Not everything works best when put on a a external sdcard , the read/write speeds are a hendrance even with a class 10 card. I do have to say that I did a lot of making themes and tearing apart Roms so I could theme them. So I would fill up my internal and external sdcard pretty fast. Let alone if I was putting movies and music on it as well. I personally am waiting for a T-Mobile S5 with 32Gb's...

FWIW, completely moved in with all my apps, and a couple new ones, 64 Gb SD card on board with media, and the 16 Gb device reports 9.17 Gb available internally (down from just under 11 Gb as shipped) and 31.08 Gb available on SD card.
I consider myself a median-to-light app installer, and I'm aggressive about uninstalling stuff I'm no longer using.
If you're someone who'se "phat" on apps then you'll want more, but for the rest of us I can't see how it's not livable with the SD card.
Brought my S5 back yesterday because I'm waiting for the 32Gb version (trying the M8 to pass away the time). I've been friends with the at&t mgr for couple years, he said AT&T will be getting the 32gb and a gold version...didn't say when though.
If the 32gb version doesn't come out in a couple weeks or so, I'll go back and get the 16gb. I'm just taking a chance that AT&T and company are pulling the same stunt with the S5 as they did with the S4.
I am currently on a nexus 4. I had this for a few years and never had an issue with storage. I kept it light since it only had 16gbs. i had a oneplus one for a little while and used about 15gbs for games, music and all that. Now i ordered a nexus 6 on 11/5 from the google play store a 32 blue. I was aiming for the 64 but thought if i didn't get the 32 i wouldn't get a phone at all. So i nabbed it real quick. Now I am still debating over getting the extra storage. I managed on my nexus 4 but the extra space just seems nice. What made you choose the one you chose?
You do know that the Nexus 4 were 8 & 16GB devices, right?
I thought the Nexus 4 only came in 8 and 16gb variants. I've had an 8gb nexus 4 that I've been using for the past 18 months. Once you get past the space reserved for the system usage, I get 5.67gb of available space. I'd say I ran out of space for music and videos and stuff about 6 months ago and I've been resorting to dropbox, google drive, streaming and the like to keep myself entertained.
This time i went with the 64gb because I'd like to not worry about running out of space. 32gb sounds sufficient now, but in 24 months it probably won't be. Also going from $299 for 8gb to $349 for 16gb seemed like a lot of extra money for a little extra storage space, but going from $649 to $699 is like a drop in the bucket by comparison.
The nexus 4 was only sold in 8/16 GB models. Not 32GB. However, I ordered a 64gb because i always error on the side of caution and would rather pay a little more now then realize i need more storage down the road and not be able to do anything about it. Plus I hear the new run time uses about twice as much space for apps because of the cache.
64gb minimum.
I'd personally like 128gb.
32gb or less is pants in this day and age.
My last 2 phones have been 32 and I have never had a problem but I'm not one to keep useless Crap on my phone either. I don't play games. I always go through my pictures and delete bad or useless photos. How much damn music can u listen to. I mean really, people put 10gb of music on their phone and probably never listen to 98% of it. With all that said I like to go ever board on most things so I would have gotten the 64gb if I had the option at the time but for me 32gb will do just fine and I can spend the money saved on ammo.

256 ~ 384GB.
Loseless musics and RAW pictures and 2K resolution videos need large enough space of storage

I have 50gb of music on my Note 4 - All Wav Full size - Whether I listen to it is irrelevant, 64gb should be minimum.
Google need to get their act together or put a micro sd slot in their phones
I'd be fine with an 16gb device, so 32gb will do just fine.
32gb is ok for me as I dont put a lot of music on or vids, mostly stream content, but if they offered it in USB3 i would get 64gb so I could use it to transfer data and a portable hdd. Otherwise it takes ages to transfer stuff
I own 16GB Nexus 5 and it has 4GB free available.
But, that's because I don't install games, only 1. And I don't store music / video in it.
With Nexus 6, I plan to get the 64GB, although 32GB would be enough.
Why 64GB? Think about 4K videos, that might be cool, no? And that requires more space. Also 13 MP photos compared to 8 MP of Nexus 5, more space needed.
Lastly, because I intent to keep this "expensive" device for at least 2 years .... 64GB is more preferred!

This is the thing. I'm considering going for the 64 again. It just feels nice to know you do not have to worry about space at all. I plan on putting games on my device because it seems perfect for gaming. 4k video does take a lot of space, so i am not sure what to do. I could have ordered a 64 from motorola but hesitated lol.
I"m one of those who was sad to see Google abolish the SD card from the Nexus devices, and was torn between getting a phone with bloat, but expandable storage, or a clean phone with no such abilities. I ultimately went for the latter, and was really worried that 32GB wouldn't be enough. In reality though, 32GB has proven more than enough. I'm sure I'll never even come close to filling it up, short of stuffing a lot of HD movies in there.
That said... I ordered the 64GB version of the Nexus 6, basically, for no other reason than I felt if I was willing to shell out $650 for a 32GB device, I might as well spend the other $50 for double the storage. Had that model been $100 more, I'm sure I'd have stuck with the 32GB phone and been fine. I guess we all have our lines in the sand.

LOL. You're using the fruit company as an example why not to use big storage?
Last I checked, the 256 GB SSD I have in my laptop was purring along quite happily, no issues at all.
You can't use one bad implementation as an example why something is globally a bad idea. In fact, you should probably assume that the problems apple is having, is either related to their specific chip supplier, or a flaw in the storage format they use. Note that the fruit company uses their HFS storage format, which may not be well tested on 128 GB flash media, and is used exclusively on a subset of consumer devices. Android uses EXT4, which is very well tested on 128 GB flash media, and deployed on things like SERVERS all around the world, proven very robust.

^^ That.
Given the difference of $50 and the *lack of an MMC slot*, I consider it a no-brainer to get the big one. If you ever end up *needing* the space, you will be kicking yourself for buying the small one.
Being a crack flasher, I need MOAR storage. 64 GB should be fine for me.

That will depend on how many backups you make and keep with TWRP. They will eat up storage quickly.
Mine is a 64GB N6.
I had to do Factory Data Reset after updating from 5.0 to 5.1 because only 32GB was visible under Total space.
That's the only negative consequence of owning 64GB, besides the price of course.
i plan on going with the 32GB version since i might buy it right from verizon to avoid the hassles of activating it, the phone not showing up right on my account, etc... I've noticed most TWRP backups are between 3-4GB and I only keep 1 backup at a time currently so I dont mind giving that up. plus i only really use the backups when I'm flashing a new rom or doing something that might break it. once whatever change ive done works and I'm golden i usually delete the backup. I always keep a copy of the ROM im using on the phone so if something does happen by any weird chance I'll just wipe and start fresh. most of my stuff backs up to the cloud anyways
64 for me. I sync my backups right off, but having titanium there all the time and the flexibility for me, the small price increase is well worth it.
64gb here also.
64 also here! Like availability if required and someday resale value.
I have the 32GB and I store most of my stuff on an OTG drive.
I'm getting by on 32 just fine. I listen to a lot of music but don't play games which can take up a lot of space. I also manage backups basically the same way you do.
Yeah I think im going to roll with the 64GB just because I am purchasing on off of Swappa and they are priced really well for brand new units.

I use 32gb, I store all of my music locally as I live in NYC and cloud music isn't reliable for me as I go underground and don't have any service there.
I still have a lot of space left on my phone, roughly about 4 gb and am pretty happy with it. It should be noted I have about 2 nandroid backup on my phone right now.

I bought the 64GB version even though it meant waiting longer to get. Definitely glad I did since I can never have enough storage. I would have bought a 128GB version if one was available.
Have the 32gb, as well. I copy my TWRP backups to my USB-OTG and my computer so I don't lose the storage on board.

Do we know when the 128GB or if Samsung would grace the rest of the world; the 256GB option? Im surprised that no outlet has records for the 128GB or is it coming after launch since I only see 64GB versions available for preorder 'globally'.
I've been trying to find a 128gb version as well.... But no luck.
So right now im holding out ordering and waiting to see if the 128gb is releasing soon some where in the world.
North America never gets anything but the lower option - 64gb. Which is enough for now especially adding in the 256gb micro SD. That being said, I personally would love to have 128gb option and would pay $100 more for the extra storage. Just like I would also pay $100 for a BL unlocked (Dev version) of the Note 8. Don't think they have offered a Dev version of the Note since the Note 4, of which I bought the Dev version of that phone.
The versions with more storage, more ram, etc are usually very rare and only release in the asian markets. Not sure why they do that as there would be buyers elsewhere in the world. Head scratching.
Yeah Im in the USA however I couldnt care less where the device is coming from.. I preordered a 64x from clove.. but like you wanted the 128 at least (which is in my s6e...) so im taken aback how the internal storage options are still paltry. Yes the card.. but its not UFS2.1 speed so i dunno what gives.
sidenote, the note 8 has a ufs card reader which is up to 3x faster than usdxc.. slight mitigation.. if you can find cards.
I doubt a 128 much less a 256 version will appear—it's a classic Samsung tune, with every model since Note 2 they've been promising a “Luxury” of whatever version of the same model, always with double the storage.
I've waited for a couple of those before—they've never materialized…

Better buy SD Card a fast one that has fast reading speed sandiak 200 gb or samsung evo 128 gb.
With 200 gb sd card (180 gb actual space) + 64 gb storage (52 gb actual space) =
232 GB Of total storage.
Which is just as much as 256 gb samsung phone.
Cause 256 gb samsung phones have 235 storage due to software.

Apparently a 128gb version is expected to be launched in India. But i haven't been able to confirm that....
Tho a lot of sites selling phones with india as target audience is listing the 128gb version
In mexico the major carrier telcel only offers the 128 gb option
As the title states does anyone have both versions and can say it's justifiable to pay the extra 300? I don't car for the space but the extra 2 gigs of RAM could be nice. Please advise.

Are you going to be using more than 24 apps simultaneously? Because the Note8 could hold about that many in memory with 6GB of RAM.
Are you going to keep it for 2 years or more? If so, I suggest the 8GB for future-proofing. If not, 6GB makes more sense.
Just my two cents.
Since I heard this could be the last Note, I went with the 512/8. I may keep it a long time if they stop making the Note line. I use the stylus everyday at my job and I don't want to give that up anytime soon.
i got 512/8 gb model just in case this is the last note ever
I went with the 512gb because I can... No other reason. I will ditch it when the Note 10 comes out or the F.
The best use of the RAM would be for Dex, which I don't use. 128GB plus my 256GB SD card = more storage than I will ever come close to using. I could have easily afforded the 512, but I don't need a terabyte phone and I never came close to filling my Note 8 so it was a no brainer to me.
It depend on your need: heavy multitasking is your priority, for working and 300$ not too much with you then go 512GB
got the 512 blue version, just because i wanted to treat myself, and some futureproofing too
I think one important point people are missing is that the 512GB version allows you to use dual SIMs without worrying about running out of storage. My big problem with the Note 8 was that I could either put in two SIMs and live with the 64GB internal storage limitation, or give up on using two SIM cards and plug in a memory card instead. I ended up doing the latter. But with the 512GB Note 9, you don't have to compromise.
Maybe in the US, consumers are used to the idea of using only one SIM, but here in India dual SIMs are a common sight. And some phone brands offer two SIM slots PLUS a memory slot. Samsung, however, has opted for that rather limiting "hybrid SIM slot".

If you're speaking of modding you SD Card to work around the hybrid/SIM dilemma,Samsung recently pushed an update to the S9/S9+ that prevents that from working.
My guess this is in effect for the Note 9 out of the box.

No apologies necessary.
It wasn't exactly common knowledge, unless one followed the subject on a regular basis, especially if one didn't own an S9.
I myself just found out days ago, assuming it'd work, since I used one of those slim SIM adapters on my dual SIM Honor View 10.

Does anyone know how much storage is left over on the 128GB version? You know, out of the box.

I'm willing to bet the same apps come preinstalled on the 512 so either could answer the question and you could just apply the math to the other one.
I got the 128 because wife wouldn't let me.
I got my Note 9 on pre-order.
The promotion Samsung ran here in Oz was if you pre-ordered the Note 9 you got the 512gb for the price of the 128gb...
Pretty much a no-brainer for me...
