Galaxy Note8 Storage Options - 256GB - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Do we know when the 128GB or if Samsung would grace the rest of the world; the 256GB option? Im surprised that no outlet has records for the 128GB or is it coming after launch since I only see 64GB versions available for preorder 'globally'.

I've been trying to find a 128gb version as well.... But no luck.
So right now im holding out ordering and waiting to see if the 128gb is releasing soon some where in the world.

North America never gets anything but the lower option - 64gb. Which is enough for now especially adding in the 256gb micro SD. That being said, I personally would love to have 128gb option and would pay $100 more for the extra storage. Just like I would also pay $100 for a BL unlocked (Dev version) of the Note 8. Don't think they have offered a Dev version of the Note since the Note 4, of which I bought the Dev version of that phone.
The versions with more storage, more ram, etc are usually very rare and only release in the asian markets. Not sure why they do that as there would be buyers elsewhere in the world. Head scratching.

Yeah Im in the USA however I couldnt care less where the device is coming from.. I preordered a 64x from clove.. but like you wanted the 128 at least (which is in my s6e...) so im taken aback how the internal storage options are still paltry. Yes the card.. but its not UFS2.1 speed so i dunno what gives.

sidenote, the note 8 has a ufs card reader which is up to 3x faster than usdxc.. slight mitigation.. if you can find cards.

I doubt a 128 much less a 256 version will appear—it's a classic Samsung tune, with every model since Note 2 they've been promising a “Luxury” of whatever version of the same model, always with double the storage.
I've waited for a couple of those before—they've never materialized…

I am sure if they exist they would be very expensive

not a peep about then since last summer either, so it's surprising to find that they've included the reader.. some expectation then of release. but.. bixby, so who really knows.

Just buy exynos if you want an unlocked bootloader .
sent from my Note FE, S8 plus, or S6

Only in korea.
Better buy SD Card a fast one that has fast reading speed sandiak 200 gb or samsung evo 128 gb.
With 200 gb sd card (180 gb actual space) + 64 gb storage (52 gb actual space) =
232 GB Of total storage.
Which is just as much as 256 gb samsung phone.
Cause 256 gb samsung phones have 235 storage due to software.

I heard bad things about lexar despite its read and write speed being really high. I heard it gets corrupted easily for some customers no thing solid thought...
But who knows..

I still have the evo 256gb that I got free with the note 7. Works like a champ. I also tried to find this ufs card but no luck.

I am buying 256 gb one then hope it doesnot run out.
Its price is really low and its fast sd card.

Apparently a 128gb version is expected to be launched in India. But i haven't been able to confirm that....
Tho a lot of sites selling phones with india as target audience is listing the 128gb version

In mexico the major carrier telcel only offers the 128 gb option

Do I really need 128GB or will 32GB be enough?

Since the Tmobile Galaxy S6 has its priced reduced, I decided to finally jump from my S2 to the S6. Since the 64GB and the 128GB are the same price so it makes sense to just jump on that.
I am use to having an SD card so the question is what would be appropriate for me. I take a lot of photos and maybe play a game of the month or 2 occasionally. The only thing that takes up the most space is music since service with TMobile varies where I go. Music folder size varies from 5-10GB.
Any opinion helps. Thanks!
You do yes

It is like having 2 refrigerators. Do you really NEED all the crap you store in the garage refrigerator? Some people do and some people don't. I have 64gb and it is plenty but if I had 128gb I would just have an over accumulation of nandroid backups that i will never need.

I just bought the 64GB version yesterday after going to 10 different stores. It seems no one stocks the 128GB version in stores it can only be ordered. I usually get the 32gb models and never fill them up.
I'm a storage nut. I have the 128gb version, very glad I chose it. Even if you don't use all the storage, resale value is something to think about. Just something to think about.

Sandisk having issues with their 400gb micro sdxc cards?

They where announced over a month ago, went for sale on Amazon and while the product is still listed, apparently very few people have got them and they have not come back in stock. They are not for sale on Sandisk's website either, but they are listed as a product.
Anyone heard what is going on with them? I am looking for one or 2 for my Note 8.
Thanks.
news to me
I bought one august 31st.
i dont know what country you are in, but in the US they are avail for 249.99 for next day delivery (just looked just now).
i have every app moved to SD card that the phone will allow and its not been any issues. phone runs smooth from my experience and no hiccups.

No that's just the max size produced by Samsung which is why it states 256 on the spec sheet. It supports sizes larger than 256gb.

Samsung's 512gb micro sd card?

Anybody have any idea on this. I can't seem to find it out there , also can't seem to find a bundle with the note 9 and the 512gb micro sd card.
Thanks!
There is no bundle with a 512GB SD Card. Samsung is expected to release a 512 GB Micro SD Card, most likely when the Note 9 officially releases in 2 weeks

Haha, well the 256GB is about $150 now, but was $250 or $300 when released. So maybe the 512 will be in line with those prices.
Really wish they bundled that instead of headphones.

The only current 512gb micro SD cards on the market are the Integral (a UK brand), which just dropped from $399 to $350, the PNY, which just came out at $350, and the TeamGroup, a lesser know Korean brand that retails around $300, but can be found for $290 if you are lucky. The PNY and TeamGroup are both out of stock in the US right now, and the Integral is hard to find for the $350 price tag.
I wonder how the speed of the 512gb will be. card size is important but speed I can transfer files matters too if I'm moving such large files.
and the SanDisk/Samsung micro SD card naming scheme is so confusion..
I'm sure the speed is great as I have the 256gb microsd I received with the Note 7, the 512 should be faster. I move a lot of my apps to the sd and it runs just fine. I'll be using this 256 with the Note 9 when it arrives. Can't wait!
Who really needs this though, honestly...? I mean, if you need massive storage, it's cheaper to get the internal memory ($250, basically). I have a really hard time imagining someone needing 1TB of space on a phone right now, haha.
Personally, I ordered the 512gb phone and will be using my 256GB card I got from the Galaxy "Fireball". I think I'll get by with 768GB. ?
It started to pop up in Samsung stores around the world. At least Germany and US.
warning, high capacity samsung sd cards have slower write and read speeds in samsung phones. and samsung phones alredy have a reduced ext sd performance by default... so you do the math.
dont think the note 9 even has a UHS rating and poor performance backs it up.
save some money and get a cheaper card instead. if this sounds like Chinese and you have money, then why not.

Really? I find that hard to believe as the read and write speed is stated on the packaging. If it is not true then Samsung could be sued for false advertising.

in any uhs usb 3 cars reader speeds are on pare.
as stated earlier, in a phone, you will never get those speeds.
my samsung evo plus 256 performs like a cheap class 10.
so i can only imagine a 512gb.
ive made a thread about this....
a smaller 64 gb outperforms the bigger cards that have the exact same ratings.
Its 512gb micro sdxc compatible with my samsung s7 edge?

If you do a lot of 4k and slomo photography the sdx comes in handy to save wanted media, 4k is like 10mb'sec

As the title states does anyone have both versions and can say it's justifiable to pay the extra 300? I don't car for the space but the extra 2 gigs of RAM could be nice. Please advise.

Are you going to be using more than 24 apps simultaneously? Because the Note8 could hold about that many in memory with 6GB of RAM.
Are you going to keep it for 2 years or more? If so, I suggest the 8GB for future-proofing. If not, 6GB makes more sense.
Just my two cents.
Since I heard this could be the last Note, I went with the 512/8. I may keep it a long time if they stop making the Note line. I use the stylus everyday at my job and I don't want to give that up anytime soon.
i got 512/8 gb model just in case this is the last note ever
I went with the 512gb because I can... No other reason. I will ditch it when the Note 10 comes out or the F.
The best use of the RAM would be for Dex, which I don't use. 128GB plus my 256GB SD card = more storage than I will ever come close to using. I could have easily afforded the 512, but I don't need a terabyte phone and I never came close to filling my Note 8 so it was a no brainer to me.
It depend on your need: heavy multitasking is your priority, for working and 300$ not too much with you then go 512GB
got the 512 blue version, just because i wanted to treat myself, and some futureproofing too
I think one important point people are missing is that the 512GB version allows you to use dual SIMs without worrying about running out of storage. My big problem with the Note 8 was that I could either put in two SIMs and live with the 64GB internal storage limitation, or give up on using two SIM cards and plug in a memory card instead. I ended up doing the latter. But with the 512GB Note 9, you don't have to compromise.
Maybe in the US, consumers are used to the idea of using only one SIM, but here in India dual SIMs are a common sight. And some phone brands offer two SIM slots PLUS a memory slot. Samsung, however, has opted for that rather limiting "hybrid SIM slot".
Got the 512/8 for future proofing and in the event that it is the last Note.

If you're speaking of modding you SD Card to work around the hybrid/SIM dilemma,Samsung recently pushed an update to the S9/S9+ that prevents that from working.
My guess this is in effect for the Note 9 out of the box.

No apologies necessary.
It wasn't exactly common knowledge, unless one followed the subject on a regular basis, especially if one didn't own an S9.
I myself just found out days ago, assuming it'd work, since I used one of those slim SIM adapters on my dual SIM Honor View 10.

I'm willing to bet the same apps come preinstalled on the 512 so either could answer the question and you could just apply the math to the other one.

Hello guys, please tell which of this two versions you've got and why.
Does it mather to pay about +-50 more to get the 128GB version instead of 64GB, if just the storage size changes?

Well sadly no expandable storage which sucks, so get 128gb if you can. Personally I have 64gb because thats the only version available at Amazon.
I depends on your usage, how much space do you use on your current phone?
I had less than 20gb left on my 64gb Mi A2, and now, i have 73 gb left on my 128gb Mi 9, if i had the 64gb version, i would have only 9gb left. You also need to think about your space for 2 years from now, and also for the resell value.
I bought the 128gb and I don't know why. 64GB would be enough.
Buying the 64GB here. Even with Netflix downloads, a few GB games and tons of photos., I’m hoovering at 20 GB free space after a year and a half. Google Photos saves a lot of space and unlimeted cloud storage in a decent enough quality.

Running 32GB internal + 64GB external, but most is on external SD btw. I have some OTG C to use too.
128g here! the way i look at it rather have too much than not enough haha
I have 6GB/128GB because the Mi 9 has no external storage
I have the Mi 9 because Belsimpel (dutch shop) only has the 128GB version in blue.
I wanted the 128gb version but it was out of my budget (was way overpriced too). So i went with the 64gb and to be honest i'm gonna miss my 128gb i had with my redmi note 4 as external storage ... but oh well at least i can sell it and get some money back out of it. c:
I have 6/64 and for me it is ok.
I don't need many space in mobile phone, just some gb for mp3 to listen in can via bluetooth.
If better 64 o 128 gb depend of your own use of mobile phone.
bought the 128gb version myself as the price i got on it was quite cheap but 64 one would have been just fine too (as i had a 32gb s7 edge previously with 32gb sdcard)
256GB, the more the merrier
Do note that the storage speed differs quite a bit between the two versions. The 128GB one has faster sequential reads (almost 800MB/s, compared to 620-690 the 64GB one gets) while the 64GB one has almost twice as fast seq write speeds (about 390MB/s compared to 180-ish the 128GB one gets). The other parameters are usually in line, they also tend to differ between ROM versions on the global dev I've been running until now.
My current phone is the LG V10 so I went with the 8/128. I don't like buying phones so I wanted to make sure this one lasts as long as possible.
Noticed that no-one is mentioning how much space you do actually get after turning the phone for the first time. I have see somewhere that 128g version has 117g free. Is this true?

Yup. I just roughly calculated it and I got 116,88gb. Don't remember the exact value.
Try get 128. But only if you use your camera often (specially video). I bought 64gb and now only my gallery take 15GB. 4min video from some event takes 1, 2GB. So let's think before.
I got the 64gb because the 128gb was too expensive when I ordered it. I use Google Photos so no storage space used for photos on my phone and it's free. Thanks whoever posted the RAM speed differences. I was unaware. I wonder if the 256gb has faster speeds?
Just before I purchased the phone, I changed my mind and went for 64gb version.
My previous phone had 64gb storage and 64gb SD card, and I was using around 100gb of the total.
On the way to the shop I had a little cleaning, and checked the files on my SD card and it turned out almost all is useless and I just keep it on my phone (I had 2 year old TWRP backups, many custom ROMs and mods that I don't need and use etc)
Same apps and similar amount of downloads (on Netflix, Spotify, Photos etc) and I have 30gb free on my 64gb Mi 9. So, I don't think 128gb is necessary for a regular user.
Now, I can use the 50 euros I saved, in buying a 20W wireless charger and a power-bank.
