Samsung's 512gb micro sd card? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Anybody have any idea on this. I can't seem to find it out there , also can't seem to find a bundle with the note 9 and the 512gb micro sd card.
Thanks!

There is no bundle with a 512GB SD Card. Samsung is expected to release a 512 GB Micro SD Card, most likely when the Note 9 officially releases in 2 weeks

That's going to have a price tag more absurd than this phone I bet! Maybe... $350? $400?

Haha, well the 256GB is about $150 now, but was $250 or $300 when released. So maybe the 512 will be in line with those prices.
Really wish they bundled that instead of headphones.

My thoughts exactly, I got the 256gb with the Note 7 , was hoping to get the 512gb with the 9. Really dont need another set of headphones.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs

The only current 512gb micro SD cards on the market are the Integral (a UK brand), which just dropped from $399 to $350, the PNY, which just came out at $350, and the TeamGroup, a lesser know Korean brand that retails around $300, but can be found for $290 if you are lucky. The PNY and TeamGroup are both out of stock in the US right now, and the Integral is hard to find for the $350 price tag.

I wonder how the speed of the 512gb will be. card size is important but speed I can transfer files matters too if I'm moving such large files.
and the SanDisk/Samsung micro SD card naming scheme is so confusion..

I'm sure the speed is great as I have the 256gb microsd I received with the Note 7, the 512 should be faster. I move a lot of my apps to the sd and it runs just fine. I'll be using this 256 with the Note 9 when it arrives. Can't wait!

Who really needs this though, honestly...? I mean, if you need massive storage, it's cheaper to get the internal memory ($250, basically). I have a really hard time imagining someone needing 1TB of space on a phone right now, haha.
Personally, I ordered the 512gb phone and will be using my 256GB card I got from the Galaxy "Fireball". I think I'll get by with 768GB. ?

It started to pop up in Samsung stores around the world. At least Germany and US.

warning, high capacity samsung sd cards have slower write and read speeds in samsung phones. and samsung phones alredy have a reduced ext sd performance by default... so you do the math.
dont think the note 9 even has a UHS rating and poor performance backs it up.
save some money and get a cheaper card instead. if this sounds like Chinese and you have money, then why not.

Really? I find that hard to believe as the read and write speed is stated on the packaging. If it is not true then Samsung could be sued for false advertising.

in any uhs usb 3 cars reader speeds are on pare.
as stated earlier, in a phone, you will never get those speeds.
my samsung evo plus 256 performs like a cheap class 10.
so i can only imagine a 512gb.
ive made a thread about this....
a smaller 64 gb outperforms the bigger cards that have the exact same ratings.

Its 512gb micro sdxc compatible with my samsung s7 edge?

400 GB sandisk card $99 on Amazon
If you do a lot of 4k and slomo photography the sdx comes in handy to save wanted media, 4k is like 10mb'sec

Not worth the money though Eaglesteve. I could buy TWO 8gb Sandisk SDHCs with free postage for 37 dollars less than that. 179 dollars for 12gb versus 60 dollars for 8gb is a total rip off for an extra 4gb in my opinion. Hopefully the price will drop soon though.

Www.play.com. It's a sandisk and comes with an sd card adaptor and a usb sdhc card reader. Ive tested my sdhc card in 3 different card adaptors from non-sdhc cards and they work fine anyway so you just need a microsdhc to minisd adaptor from ebay or elsewhere for the athena if you dont have one already....
Any products bought by "early adopters" are more expensive. It will come down in price. When I bought my 4 GB SD cards for AUD300 few years ago it was a steal because the 512MB was going for more than 100 then. Now, we looked at that and laugh. The same goes for Athena - because I bought it very soon after it was released, I paid probably 50% more than what could be had today.

You're right Eaglesteve, although in this instance I think i'll be a late adopter of 12gb cards. I can cope without that extra 4gb for now, 8 is more than enough for me now anyway!
16gb micro sdhc cards are about to be released too! Check out www.symbian-freak.com for the article
Already??
I thought they would come 4th quarter this year...
Nevermind, the article doesn't say a word about availabilty.
On the other hand, the pix are proof that those things are existing already...
i did the same with my psp and pro duo's. In 2005, the best you could get even a 1gb for was about 60 quid on ebay, and I got a 2gb from singapore for 85 quid. these days, only 2 and a bit years later, its about a tenner

Don't mind at all....i should get it a few days after March 10th. Just shoot me a reminder in case I forget.
For all those considering the 12gb micro sdhc cards, the 16gb cards will be released also in 2-3 weeks, with 32 GB models (rather incredibly) arriving in the next few months. Sandisk seem to be ahead of the mark here, and the whole 32gb Athena project could instantly be put on hold: why not take out the mircodrive altogether to save on batteries! it'll be superfast to stick all your films on a 32gb card with the supplied card adaptor and reader, so screw activesync/wm5torage.
32gb cards should work in any sdhc compatible device, since the manufacturer's given capacity for the device's card reader is invariably based on current size limitations. There is no reason why a 32gb card wouldn't work in an Athena so this could be quite a big step for the device, and mobile devices in general.
I disagree that the 32GB project could go on hold. There is a 16GB SSD that costs ~$110, and in 6 months or so, there will be a 32GB SSD out by at least one manufacturer.
Couple that with a 32GB micro SDHC card, then you have an Athena with 64GB, that costs much less than a Sony UX

I think there a people out there who might still want to take their device apart to replace it with an ssd and risk bricking their device (and certainly shred their warranty) but i imagine most would prefer to use a card as the transfer speed of a card in a reader vs software transfer over activesync/wm5toerage file is huge.
By this time of the year, my warranty is already about to expire anyway. If there is well documentated instruction by a more hardware oriented poster, I'm willing to take the risk of opening it up.
I prefer to install all my program on a non-removeable storage, so that I can swap the removeable one in and out at will for even more storage.
Plus, I expect savings in battery life, access speed (SSD should be quite a bit faster than the microdrive, I expect), and reduced weight are all attractions. It would also certainly make Athena surpass X7510 in everyway other than the keyboard. Just imagine, we have larger storage and we still manage to keep all the nice hardware buttons.
That's half the fun is trumping HTC at their own game!
Imagine, when the 16gb 7510 hits the streets and some tech blogs instantly declares is obsolescent because someone has jammed a 32gb ssd into a 7500/7501.
Maybe then HTC will wake up and juice up the 75xx series to have great video performance, and other improvements.
Any update yet on the availability of these larger storage cards? I can't find any 12gb microSDHC for sale online apart from preorders. And if 16gb are only 3 weeks behind, I'll wait for those.
Thanks
Jon
Found some info here... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2281491,00.asp
In part, it says (re SanDisk):
Product-wise, the company made no major announcements at CTIA, but company reps did confirm to us that the previously announced 12GB microSD size will not be released. Instead, this summer the company is going to "jump to the next obvious size," which is 16GB.
Apparently the 12 giggers previously 'available' are all only pre-orders?
I've had a few cards where it would only let me write to half of the card and the other half was corrupt. I suggest every time you buy a flash mem card you write to the full amount right away to test it. Because sometimes you never get around to using the whole thing until way later and then is when you realize it's faulty. 12gig copy time will be insane.

with proper software and drivers the mogul should theoretically be able to use up to 2tb, although ATM the 12gb is the largest available (16s should be out in june)
I'm not 100% sure but I do believe the SDHC spec (which is what allows sizes above 4 GB) has a 256 GB limit.
But that doesn't mean they can't come up with a new spec (SDHC2?) that will go beyond that. By then you will probably have a new phone anyway! LOL

i know 8gb works with the drivers in the latest rom (theres a cab floating around too that will install them for 2.09 or earlier)
not sure about 12, if the current drivers cant handle it i doubt it will be long before there is a driver that does
I've upgraded to the new ROM, and got the 8GB card in the mail today. I threw it in my phone, and it works like a dream.
The only credit I will give Micro-whatever, and it pains me to do so, is their plug-and-play capabilities.
man for those 4 extra gb's of space they're trying to charge 3X what i got my 8gb for thats wild might as well get a seperate 4gb for 20 bucks. Amazon sells the 8gb for 50 bucks and 60 i could not justify paying an extra 100 bucks for that
I guess i'm lucky... i got a new sandisk 8GB SDHC for $32.45 (and that included shipping!) I just looked for an auction that ended at a weird time...
It even came with the usb adapter, woohoo!!!

Personally, I'm using a 32GB and it's doing me just fine. I wanted to get a 64GB after seeing that deal, but couldn't justify it at that price. Whenever 64GB cards normalize down to about $40 or less, I might upgrade, but for now a 32GB card is fine for me. I only paid $20 for my 32GB card and it works quite well.
I had a 32 gig that I was using in my Note 1, but I ran out of space, so bought the 64 gig a couple of weeks ago. When you have a few different ROMs, titanium backups, nandroid backups, movies and mp3s on there, it adds up pretty quickly.

a class 2 card will do just fine for 99% users...it's gonna suck if someone is putting tons of data on it at one time but the acutal functionality of it will be juuuuuust fine...
i, ordered this thing http://dx.com/p/sd-to-microsd-transflash-card-converter-module-27001 and will attempt to use a 128GB SD card in my Note II...i performed a rather crude experiment to see if it could fit under the battery cover...it buldges a tiny bit but it's hardly noticeable...

Well, the risk depends on how much your data is worth to you.
I don't see the point in trying to save money by getting "cheap" memory.
If it fails, you're f&cked.
There's always a chance of memory failing, but the chance is higher if it's a cheap copy.
Cheap batteries, cases, adaptors etc. are a "try it, and if it breaks, has a short life span, or doesn't work properly, I'll buy another one" situation.
If your SD card fails and you haven't copied your photos, or whatever, to another location, buying another SD card won't be much use.

I agree with everyone so far. There are a lot of fakes being sold..ultimately it's your decision. If u do decide though..if it's legit u can check the serial number with sandisk..if that's good then ur lucky..and that seller probably is selling stolen goods..

and its worth every penny... If you want some speed, get the best one in a box so yo really know that you have not been ripped off.
If you could afford SGN2 I suppose you can afford an OEM Micro SDXC
I recommend getting a class 10 64 gigabyte microSD card and partitioning it into 2 partitions, one for your files and one for your apps. Then use Link2SD and you can automatically install apps on the second partition. This way you will worry less about filling up your 16 gigabyte internal storage. This is what I was doing on my Galaxy S3.

I would buy a cheap memory card. I have mines in sync for dropbox so at worse I would lose the pictures from that past hour. Mines is a cheap Microcenter 32GB class 10. They offered me same day replacement if it fails.
I would never even consider getting a cheap battery. If it breaks or doesn't work properly it could take my phone with it. I had some cheap batteries before for the old epic 4g. Both of the batteries started to develop cracks around the body despite not being damage. That could have caused problems if I hadn't notice. Cheap cases could scratch your phone and sometimes the expensive one could too but I don't hear about it as often as I do with the cheap ones.
Adapters really depends on what they are for. I heard, don't know for a fact, that some of the off brand MHL adapters for our device don't always work and when they do they aren't as good as doing 1 to 1 as the Samsung adapter are. I would love to see someone test out the different ones to see if there is actually a difference. With monster HDMI and normal HDMI there might actually be a difference but as long as there is enough data it will form the same signal which means they both should work the same despite the difference in the amount of data transferred. But with audio, cables can make a world of a difference.

Samsung pro 64gb amazon last november was $35. 90MB read / 80MB write. Figured I'd need it shooting raw a lot.
128gb - It was free through a promotion with an upgrade to the LG G4.

I got this one a couple months ago for like 24 on a gold box deal. These things just keep dropping in price.
64gb samsung non-pro card for $27.88 from best buy because I wanted it immediately. Going to put the 32gb LG promo card in my wife's tablet.
I had a couple class 10 micro SD cards and just popped a 32gb one I had in. I think its a Sony card I got when they were on a flash sale on Amazon. They were pretty cheap though.
128gb from microsoft website for $70 ~ http://slickdeals.net/f/7056354-sandisk-ultra-128gb-microsdxc-class-10-uhs-i-card-69-99?#comments
Samsung pro 64gb think I got it for $35 or $40. Still waiting on the 128GB to come in from the G4 Tmobile offer.
PNY Turbo Performance 64GB
$28 on Amazon.
Faster than all Samsung EVO series that I have.http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-Per...UTF8&qid=1436046691&sr=8-4&keywords=pny+64+gb
Sandisk 64gb on amazon.fr, was around 15€ when i bought it.

Kingston 128gb UHS-I I got it for 79 bucks from amazon themselves.
I use aTorrent, and it won't allow me to save my downloads directly to my SD card. I have tried formatting on my phone & on my linux computer. I have tried pulling the folders off of the SD Card, setting the permissions and putting them back on. I also have Root Explorer, but even root explorer fails to write permissions on the SD card. I tried term as root with a chmod 777 for the folders on my SD but that also didn't work... Any ideas? I'm getting a bit frustrated.

128GB
I currently have a good 64gb ultra from sandisk that recently died on me, can backup to pc but not write to it.
Just ordered Samsung 128 GB from amazon and hope it will live a long life like the sandisk did.
Never had a card die on me like the sandisk coz it was usually upgrading from a smaller size to a bigger one.

128GB Sandisk for $37 from Adorama when they had a sale
I looked at my needs for a micro SD for my phone.
Do I need Super Speed? No
Do I need a name brand? No
Do I need a LOT of space? Yes
Max space the LG G4 will recognize? 1TB <<< XDA Specs state only 128Gb (which is incorrect)
So I searched for about an hour to find the most space for my money with the highest customer ratings.
With this information, I found on ebay this:

512 GB's for UNDER $20
A friend of mine told me that it wouldn't work as these SD Cards may come from the same factories that make them for PNY & Kingston BUT don't go thru the testing process. I thought... For $20, I can take my chances. It works.
I have ready every post in here, and no one is even close to what I've got.
The 1TB SD Cards were not as cheap, and they may need more time in production for all the issues to get smoothed out, but 512 GB's will do for now.
I travel a LOT to India, and as a Senior Tech Agent, I need to transfer Large files back and forth, keep large presentations with me at all times, and plus 512 gigs is awesome.

Galaxy Note8 Storage Options - 256GB

Do we know when the 128GB or if Samsung would grace the rest of the world; the 256GB option? Im surprised that no outlet has records for the 128GB or is it coming after launch since I only see 64GB versions available for preorder 'globally'.
I've been trying to find a 128gb version as well.... But no luck.
So right now im holding out ordering and waiting to see if the 128gb is releasing soon some where in the world.
North America never gets anything but the lower option - 64gb. Which is enough for now especially adding in the 256gb micro SD. That being said, I personally would love to have 128gb option and would pay $100 more for the extra storage. Just like I would also pay $100 for a BL unlocked (Dev version) of the Note 8. Don't think they have offered a Dev version of the Note since the Note 4, of which I bought the Dev version of that phone.
The versions with more storage, more ram, etc are usually very rare and only release in the asian markets. Not sure why they do that as there would be buyers elsewhere in the world. Head scratching.
Yeah Im in the USA however I couldnt care less where the device is coming from.. I preordered a 64x from clove.. but like you wanted the 128 at least (which is in my s6e...) so im taken aback how the internal storage options are still paltry. Yes the card.. but its not UFS2.1 speed so i dunno what gives.
sidenote, the note 8 has a ufs card reader which is up to 3x faster than usdxc.. slight mitigation.. if you can find cards.
I doubt a 128 much less a 256 version will appear—it's a classic Samsung tune, with every model since Note 2 they've been promising a “Luxury” of whatever version of the same model, always with double the storage.
I've waited for a couple of those before—they've never materialized…

I am sure if they exist they would be very expensive
not a peep about then since last summer either, so it's surprising to find that they've included the reader.. some expectation then of release. but.. bixby, so who really knows.

Just buy exynos if you want an unlocked bootloader .
sent from my Note FE, S8 plus, or S6
Only in korea.
Better buy SD Card a fast one that has fast reading speed sandiak 200 gb or samsung evo 128 gb.
With 200 gb sd card (180 gb actual space) + 64 gb storage (52 gb actual space) =
232 GB Of total storage.
Which is just as much as 256 gb samsung phone.
Cause 256 gb samsung phones have 235 storage due to software.

I heard bad things about lexar despite its read and write speed being really high. I heard it gets corrupted easily for some customers no thing solid thought...
But who knows..
I still have the evo 256gb that I got free with the note 7. Works like a champ. I also tried to find this ufs card but no luck.

Apparently a 128gb version is expected to be launched in India. But i haven't been able to confirm that....
Tho a lot of sites selling phones with india as target audience is listing the 128gb version
In mexico the major carrier telcel only offers the 128 gb option
