[Q] How to disable stock keyboard shortcuts / change keyboard popup - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I'm using swype gestures to type on the stock keyboard I constantly get a pop up to change the keyboard. I originally thought it was because my thumb was grazing over the space button for too long but after analyzing the issue it seems to pop up at random. Could this be due to the aosp keyboard conflicting with the Google keyboard installed from gapps? I'm running chroma and I installed the complete stock gapps package. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

4.2 Keyboard request

I'm not sure why android continues to so this, but why can't they allow for long press options on the keyboard? My phone keyboard shows the numbers as long press options at the top, my tablet does not.
The only long press options on the keyboard are punctuations.
Is there a way to fix this? Use phone keyboard on tablet?

I wonder why that is as well. I looked through all the keyboard settings and didn't see an option for that but really would like to have it.
Try the Swype Beta keyboard (google it). Numbers are a long press.
Not really interested in swype or any of the other keyboard options. I like stock functions the best, just curious about the long press buttons missing in tablet format.
Personally that's the reason why I use stock keyboard on my Tablet. I use Swiftkey on my phone because it's quick, and the Gingerbread keyboard isn't as nice as the stock Jelly Bean. I really like how it isn't cluttered and is just clean.

LMT Launcher and keyboard conflict

I'm using HTC One Developer Edition ARHD 51.0 and Swiftkey beta keyboard.
LMT Launcher is working fine normally. The problem arises when I am using Whatsapp.
When the Swiftkey keyboard is open and I click on emoji icon it opens above the keyboard instead of closing the keyboard on opening over it thus covering up the whole screen which is annoying. cos whenever you need to put the emoticon u need to press back key once to close the keyboard and then tap the emoji icon to open it. this way it works correctly.
Recently I found out the this issue occurs only when you keep the "Set keyboard state listener" checked.
If I uncheck it everything works fine.
And it happens with stock keyboard also.
I wanted to know that is everyone facing this issue or something is wrong with my phone?

[Q] Keyboard customization?

I've got a Sprint HTC One (M8) running BadSeed's stock rooted 1.54.651.8...
I have 2 issues with the keyboard:
1. For apps that want numeric input, the keypad has no decimal-point, just 0-9, back and enter.
I ran into this using the fuelly app, which is just a front-end for the website m.fuelly.com.
Maybe they're marking the field as wanting the wrong numeric type - I'm not sure, but it worked with my Evo 4g LTE.
2. So I installed an alternate keyboard app (smart keyboard), but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the input method anymore.
Long-press in an input field doesn't do it, and neither is there a keyboard icon in the statusbar while doing input as some have suggested.
Does anybody else have these problems, and if so, know any solutions?
Ah - found a workaround to #1...
Accidentally stumbled across the fact that when a keyboard is up, you can swipe the whole thing left or right to get alternate layouts. (Who knew?)
Still don't know how to switch to a 3rd-party keyboard though, but for now I no longer need to.

[Q] No keyboard after restart

Hey all,
My new m8 (AT&T, 4.4.2, rooted) is having some issues. After a restart, I went to type a text and got no keyboard popup or notification to select input. I assumed my Swype trial had expired, went and uninstalled the trial and tried to install the full version. On the second screen, it tells you to select the Swype + Dragon keyboard, but when I select it, nothing changes; it just goes back to the Swype app telling me to select the keyboard. I'm not even getting the stock Android keyboard anymore, and I can't bring up the input selection through anything other than the Swype app. (On a similar but potentially random side note, it also won't let me change my auto-rotate setting. If I enable it, it immediately disables itself when I change screens.) I downloaded SwiftKey and it gets stuck on the same screen, but when I select it, the keyboard will pop up in texts (it just has a notification that I need to finish installation.)
Just trying to avoid a fresh install...
EDIT: if I select the stock keyboard, I can also get that working (the notification to change input also comes back), so it's now just Swype.

May i suggest you to try Swiftkey instead of Swype? Swiftkey is a great keyboard, it does also have the "swype" feature and recently, full version of Swiftkey became free compared to Swype which cost around 5$ and it was also recently updated to support emoji.
Btw you have posted in the M7 forum, forum for the M8 is here

disable full screen keyboard

Is there any way to disable full screen keyboard without using Xposed module in nougat?
Some custom ROM may offer such feature
I don't fully understand what you're asking for. But if you don't want to show any keyboard for example when you're using an external keyboard you can just install External Keyboard Helper app, or if you want a fully customizable keyboard where you can choose size and separated keyboard or whatnot I would recommend Swiftkey keyboard.

When the phone is kept in landscape mode, full screen keyboard appears ,unlike in portrait mode where the keyboard is not full screen..there was a module in Xposed (Android m) using which I could do the same but I couldn't find any such app in N..
This is what I meant
