So where the hell is the early July update for Bell's Galaxy S?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Hey man,
Great news, the update is out. In fact, it has been out since over a year.
Its called rooting your phone to install a polished, stable and overall superior rom.
2$ it'll be out tomorrow morning!
The SGS2 came out on july 14th and they probably didn't want to kill sales by upgrading the original SGS to GB first.
Now that it's available, I would expect the update anytime soon...
I live in Canada and bought my Galaxy s from bell also last year.
Whats wrong with you, root your phone.
Man, the experience is incomparable. Samsung takes an average 6month before dropping a new minor update that adds bugs of its own. Root your phone and you'll thank me later.
I mean i was planning to buy a sgs2 to resolve many of the major problems i had with sgs. At a point i thought it was hardware, since no matter how many times i exchange my phone at futureshop for free, or no matter how many application i installed, my battery would only last 3 hours. And when it reached 10% left, it would freeze, lag and become unresponsive. After installing a rom, my phone now last over a day from extensive use.
Non rooted users are dependent of samsung and their carrier. Rooted phone have unlimited possibilities and their request and want are usually answered rapidly by the community.
What rom do you use?

Sadly, 80% of the rom available is faster and more stable that samsung firmware.
I used to use f1 galaxy s v6. Im testing many here and their before coming to a conclusion.
Anyways, this should be interesting for rooted users,

I have both phones and still enjoy using them both.
If and only "if" Gingerbread doesn't kill my i9000m internal SD like Froyo did, then I might stick with the i9000m...

I'm pretty sure those were hardware or manufacturing defects, that were blatantly exposed by Froyo.
Complaints nose-dived in January and all but disappeared after they finally started getting properly repaired/built units out.

Actually it was a combo effect.
People that had the October and November Internal SD's, plus the original launch of Froyo were the main ones affected. Too many threads to post about this, but most are around here.
The Original Froyo FW was pulled for a reason.
All I know is that I had a "Perfect" and "Mint" November i9000m. Sadly the original Froyo upgrade didn't even 2 days with me. I had the *stutter vibrate* and then it was "Boot loop game over"...
i hope it out by friday. Knowing Bhell they will not release it till the end of the month or even later.
Hi, the sg2 will be available tomorrow with bell & virgin
So, for the room I agree, try a new rom. I had around 800 point in quadrant and now 1700 with a custom rom.

Lucky bastard.
I bought an Active on 8/9, and by 8/13 I was in an AT&T store replacing it with a new Active. That Active only lasted until 8/16. Worst part was that I was on vacation the whole time and unable to use my phone during a 17 hour drive home from Florida. The memory card still works but I'm done with Samsung's poor quality control. This isn't the first poorly made Samsung I've owned or had issues with, but it will be my last.
nice article. I like and get information to this post. keep it up.:good:
I am wondering if the one time replacement is a new phone or a refurbished phone? Has anyone tried this out yet?

I have returned an Active with MF1 and they didn't notice the difference.. .why do you need MF3 to test?

Just because this phone isn't popular doesn't mean Samsung won't update it. Hell they send updates out for the rugby and the other oddball Samsung phones that att has. I am thinking we will at least get 4.3 when the original s4 does which is slated for next month.

sure but my point is why worry about something that doesn't have an available update yet? Usually leaks happen before updates are even released OTA. I would wait until we have a 4.3 update to see if we can get it somehow or if there is an odin flash or what. I am sure we will have a way soon... just hold on you may not be able to upgrade the MF3 but probably other releases.

Samsung's official statement on the matter says that
"Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S 4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes). If your Galaxy S 4 Active has been damaged due to water exposure, bring it back to an AT&T retail store as soon as possible for a one-time exchange for another Galaxy S 4 Active."
So I remember when 4.3 hit there were all manner of little random quirks with various apps not being compatible and little things not working right. It took about a month for most major apps like MX Player, Lightflow, some others to get ironed out after it released. Also took a couple days to make rooting easy and stable. With us having to wait on *Official* Kit Kat by the time it comes out most the apps will be ready. Several of my apps have been updated recently and I've noticed 4.4 compatibility in the change log. So I guess I don't mind waiting a couple weeks. Although it still doesn't help me really understand why....

Yeah well I need to at least be able to say I lived through one ACTUAL OTA update.. Lol. I would like to see it before too long. Once Nexus 5's get out there more mainstream and Google sees everything going well I would say 2-3 weeks. I think they'll start rolling it out. Probably have it by Christmas..

The look of the new launcher will also be possible with 3rd party launchers once they've been updated, since now Android supports transparent menu and status bars out of the box. Also, I think with those launchers we won't have this hideous gradient.

I don't have any problems with battery life, but a lot of people seem to complain about it. At midnight last night I was at 28% after taking it off the cradle at 7 am. Right now I'm at 80% at 3:30pm EST after taking it off the cradle at 7 am. I don't let the screen stay on and I keep my brightness at 3.
Does this update break anything.. Root wise? I just got notified about it
I got the notification
I'd imagine that if rooted, it wouldn't install. Just like a nexus device. If it did though, root would usually be lost. Give it a go and let us know

Add me to the list of don't care folks.
I'm not really sure what people are expecting; many seem to eagerly anticipate Lollipop like its the next coming of the messiah or something. I just don't get it, in the end one will end up with the same app dependencies and just a little bit of polish is added to an already stellar OS.
From the looks of it Touchwiz won't fully embrace the material design concepts that Google put out in their stock Lollipop releases. I'm not sure how to feel about that; part of me is happy about that because I HATE the way my Nexus 4 looks with stock Lollipop. On the other hand, I have a feeling that in the months to come our devices will be a hodge podge mix of various applications each adopting the material design look at its own pace. A half-adopted change in touchwiz will just compound things . . I'm not looking forward to that . . .
Honestly...who really cares about killjoy lollipop anyways? Don't like the look, don't want it, don't really need it! The white and colorful backgrounds are to bright and suck battery...Why can't Google just input an option to have a light or dark ui system wide? So many people would appreciate that and be a lot happier....maybe so many could live without root then. I'm stuck unrooted till someone accomplishes it for us on Verizon and I wish I knew programming cause is love to claim that bounty...But I barely even know how top use an actual computer though I'm great with my beast of a note4...though I still sometimes regret the upgrade. My note 3 had root, custom Rom, and was able to do what I like with it system wide. Now I'm at the mercy of Verizon intent and the ads most of all are what about me most, plus the bloat I'd love to remove... thanks **rant over...screw lollipop till I'm able to flash it myself and pick what's running on my device, and have the blacked out inverted system I want and the apps I want
