From bad to worse! Note 5 not available in Europe! - Galaxy Note 4 General

Just watched the unpacked and it was all a bit MEH.
Samsung say they won't even release the note 5 in Europe so it has got even worse!

I hope LG are reading these threads!

The S6 Edge plus is now available for pre-register on Samsung UK but no sign of the Note 5 so even if you wanted one you can't LOL!

Does anyone know what the price of the s6 edge plus will be? In UK
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

Samsung really are going downhill, lack of support for the Note 4 now this, if you want a Phablet this year better to wait for the Moto X style or the Nexus both 5.7" and both will get superb support.

Around £600+ for the 32GB version i would guess.

I'm starting to think Samsung is attempting to bankrupt themselves...
"Marketing reasons". According to Tweakers, the reason is "Because Europeans haven't been using the stylus for years". Their market research team is comprised of morons, it seems.
Either that, or they're postponing it for Europe until the Snapdragon is available...

This is utterly stupid. I honestly hope this fails big time.

Africa 404 not found ...

Note 4 the last of the greats
I think we can now finally say the Note 4 was the last of Samsung's best products.
Its bad enough that the Note 5 has been stripped of major features like MicroSD and IR Blaster, but they then go on to not make it available globally and force the crap S6 Edge+ on us.
I am truly disappointed. I have no idea where to go now from Samsung, maybe to Motorola or Sony, but none of their products match up to the Note 4.

They've amended their statement pretty quickly...
Samsung now says they won't release it in the EU this year, but that they "will look at further opportunities to launch the Galaxy Note 5 in other markets based on individual market situations"
Which makes a tiny bit of sense, because they don't have much to fear from Apple in the EU. Apple's market share is only 12% here.
I'm starting to suspect a Note 5+ to be released alongside the S7 in April, with an S820. Europe's Note devices have always been Snapdragons, with the Exynos models being the models for less advanced markets. Considering the S6+ today, it's not a big leap to expect a Note 5+.

I really don't understand where you get your numbers from. It had 220mah less than a note 4 however has more efficient processor more efficient software and more efficient screen, the note 4 lasts roughly 5 hours SOT with less efficient hw. Yes the note 5 will be a pile of crap but don't try and make out it will be a bigger pile of crap than the note 4, I think android M will make it an absolute beast as well if they focus properly on their new phones. What I don't understand is, will the s6 edge plus be considered a flagship over the edge? And be considered first for updates or will they job it out like the note 4?
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk

Shame that the best features for power users are being removed from the Note 5.... No removable battery, no MIcroSD slot, no IR blaster..... Also shame that it won't be available in Europe.
I wonder what is Samsung thinking?

So, what did we get this year?
1. No SD Card slot.
2. No IR Blaster.
3. No removable battery.
4. Smaller battery.
5. The Note 5 will Not get to Europe.
Good job Samsung, you know how to satisfy your customers.

After 6 months the battery won't hold a charge nearly as well; I have two batteries and the original is clearly a lot worse already (bought my phone i January). With the new battery I get around 7 hours of SoT (see the battery thread), and with the old one I get around 5 1/2. The Note 4 definitely isn't a pile of crap, but samsung are actively trying to make it worse than it is by not releasing updates and making sure we have the latest touchwiz etc. The Note 5 is a complete joke.

Come to Israel Next week they are giving 200 people who sign up a Note 5 with a charging cradle.
They assume it will cost 940 euros.

940euros? That's insane considering it isn't much of an upgrade from the Note 4. I paid ~530€ for my Note 4 and it came with an external battery (3500mAh).

Is Note 4 worth 22k (359$) more than Lg g3?

So Samsung today announced note 4's India launched for 58k ( around 950$) I was looking forward for note 4 but 58k is just tooo much, what do you guys think if Note 4 really worth 22k extra compare to Lg G3?
I seriously think not :/ Was confirmed to get a note 4 but now I am rather swinging towards iphone 6 only coz I need to upgrade within a week and N4 price is surely gona badly drop just like s5 but might take 1-2 months and I cant wait that long, this was really rubbish move from samsung 53k max n I would have got it, but 58k, no ty sammy.

Just looked at the specs, CPU + Screen Resolution are the same as LG G3, so wouldn't it experience the same lags and throttling?
Does G3 seriously lag? I have had 15-20 minutes with it in a local shop and did not see any kind of lag or so but may be since i am still using the 2 years old Note 2 and new generations phones like M8, S5 are very fast?

I played also with a G3 in the shop, no lag on the home screen. But I just picked that info of the G3 under performing due to the under powered Snapdragon 801 for running a QHD resolution.
I think the note 4 is a way better choice then the G3. I have a G3, it is a very nice phone but from time to time I do get a lag... And coming from a note 3, I really miss my note 3...just my opinion... Hope this helps... BTW the G3 just got a work around the locked bootloader, called bump... So now you can flash twrp on it and flash roms when they come avaliable... But I'm still getting a note 4...

Yeah since the Note 4 was announced on 4th Sep i was following each and every news on Internet and was very sure that i am getting the Note 4, I even gave away 2 invites of One Plus One. 58k for a Samsung phone is like 20 lakh for a Maruti, its good but for 22 lakh i can get a BMW ( apple)

Thats the reason it is being priced higher.. I am ok with it and imho it will sell more this time if they maintained that price cuz it ll totally beat the point of buying an iphone(at least in india where carrying an iphone equals a certain standard of living).. Now u can carry a premium device with actual features and innovations rather than being stuck with a boring and suffocating os just because u needed to show off.
And btw ur comparison is totally wrong here.. A bmw has better everything than a maruti.. While in this case the iPhone is inferior in every way.. If Note is a maruti then iphone is a ct 100 motorcycle priced as a bmw.

that motorcycle comparison is so spot on lol
I tend to disagree about the pricing of NOTE 4 in India, iPhone 16GB costs 53,500 & 64GB 62,500. Apple has a very high brand value & is a status symbol in India. So cost is justified, though Note 4 is better phone overall, Samsung doesn't hold such brand value. So pricing is very bold & likely to drop very soon like the better Galaxy S5

Yes it is worth. I am upgrade from G3 to Note 4 and feeling stunning. Good screen, fast proccessor, stunning battery life. The LG G3 have only good screen but the battery is bad and very laggy because 2K screen in the 801 snapdragon chip.
Thats my point it has a brand value because it is priced higher..At least in India nobody gives a [email protected]#k about the stock value or the worth of the company or that it is an American product. Apple has a name here because they demand a premium for their devices. Direct competition of Note 4 is iphone 6 plus which is being priced at 62500 for the 16gb version. Galaxy Note series has always been a premium segment device. And sammy has enough brand value to price it the way they have. Like i said before,IF and only IF they maintained the same price, then Note 4 will sell more.It will give you the satisfaction of carrying a premium device and keeping ur standards(showing off) in the society at the same time it will be an actual smartphone. And i dont think they ll lower the price too much this time.Since last year it was due to the online retailers that the priced dipped so low.Its all over the news now a days.Sammy,LG,Sony,Htc,etc will all take strict measures to retain the minimum selling prices due to the backlash they faced from the brick and mortar store owners this year.
Fair enough, but Samsung is no Apple and has a very good record on price drop. Day 5 from launch u can expect the a bit 10 % price drop. i am going to wait or get it from Dubai where its priced around 46k

Just goes to show how things are valued in different countries. I think the iPhone is a piece of overpriced crap and the only status I think it implies is that people have no clue how misinformed they are for buying it. But that's me... And I'm so glad Samsung isn't Apple.
Also, if status is what you crave, wouldn't the higher priced item increase the status of the symbol?
If that would have been the case I would be using an apple device but I don't because I know they are way overpriced for the value they provide. The problem with samsung is different though 800$ around 49k was good price for the note.
Anyway samsung is on destructive path with rise of Chinese players in India and Their bad pricing and availability mess

Upgrade from Note 3

Hi I have a Note 3 with me and I got a Note 4 during Cyber monday and I also have a T-Mobile gc for 100 off. Also T-Mobile is buying back my Note 3 for 325. So my cost for the Note 4 is 325 (650-325 Trade in credit) I am confused now as is it worth it to spend the extra money now. Can people who have upgraded from Note 3 to Note 4 comment on this.
A couple of things about me.
Wife has a iphone 6 plus and we take pics with the 6 plus so I can live without a not so gr8 camers.
I dont game at all.
I love the Spen and take notes also browse the web a lot o my phone.
I went from the 3 to 4. The s pen on the 4 is better. I draw etc and it works so much nicer. I also like the upgraded software for the pen.
sent from my GN4 N910T 4.4.4 stock rooted
That's good to know, I don't draw but I like to write with the pen. other than that how is the rest. The writing is really nice on the Note 3 also. Overall how is tue performance of Note 4 805 processor?
Another thing is we are also going to get 64 bit processor Soon- And the Note 5 next year will definitely have 64 bit processor. So I am really confused is it worth while to wait or upgrade and more over my Note 3 is in good condition.
Well all I can say is everything I do feels faster. Chromecast video play better. I do a mix of reading, watching videos, games, drawing, writing and replaced my PC with the note line. The Note 4 only has 2 things I don't like. I don't need QHD, it makes on screen elements a little to small in Ingress. The other is they didn't keep the temperature sensor. Other then those two minor issues I can't find issue with it.
I can't wait to see some custom ROMs over the next few months. I have owned a lot of phones and tablets and by far the Note 4 is my favorite. I do use Nova launcher since I can't stand the limits in TW.

Well I know the s6 was supposed to cone with new chip set but they stopped that. Nobody knows what note 5 will come with. 32 works great so is 64 gonna be better. Who knows. Samsung don't even know yet. They still have no real idea till they fix issues with s6 and then maybe focus on 5.0 for note 4 then get back to building note 5
BAD ASS NOTE 4
It's probably an unpopular opinion to have in this forum, but i'm a little disappointed I spent the money to upgrade. It's not to say the Note 4 isn't a great phone, out of anything out there right now it's an easy pick for me, but it is in no way a significant upgrade from the 3. There are some very slight improvements, the screen for one. The screen on the 3 was already stellar, so it's hard to achieve a major upgrade here. The camera gets slightly more detail, although the photos are noisier and have more sharpening added to them (possibly the reason for the added noise?). The battery life is worse, not by a significant amount, but it is still worse for me. I notice no speed difference at all, if one exists it's too slight for my level of perception. The speaker is worse, maybe not in quality, but in placement. The build is nicer, definitely feels higher quality, but this is perception too, the Note 3 was already proven to be quite tough. I keep my phone in a case, so that's ultimately not much of a benefit to me either. The fingerprint scanner I don't use, tried it and it often required multiple swipes, seems easier to just enter a code. The new white/cyan color scheme is atrocious, and I don't know what the hell they were thinking doing this on a phone with an AMOLED screen. Black backgrounds make MUCH more sense, not just to take advantage of high AMOLED contrast, but to conserve battery power also.
All in all, I regret spending $400 to upgrade, but the Note 4 is still an awesome phone. If I had been upgrading from an S4 or a Note 2, something along those lines, I think I would have a lot less regret about the money spent. Ultimately it depends on how much you want the slight improvements.
I came from an s4. Not a note 3.
But, I can tell you this phone is awesome. It's the "it" phone. And, will be for a long time.
Take the money for the note 3 and take the plunge.
My path has been g1and a wing, g2, s2, s3, s4, note 4.
I wouldn't have considered a note up until now because of the lack of development.
But, now. It's awesome. And, we are so lucky it's not locked down like the other carriers.
PS
We won't hate you because you admitted you have an iPhone.

Thanks for taking time to explain it. I do feel same but I also think by upgrading we will have a newer device and also the warranty is now extended to one more year. Look at this this way say if we were to sell our note 3 end of 2015 we would hardly get anything out of it but by selling note 4 at least we get 300 so our upgrade might be only 25..... That is where I have the whole confusion.
My Note 3 battery barely makes it to the end of the day. I am not rooted and don't want to as I use a lot of soft card for cash back. I definitely don't want to loose that.

I had checked. I upgraded from a note 3 to a note 4 a few weeks back actually. That's why I sold mine on craigs list for funnily enough $325 as T Mobile were offering peanuts.
By the way well worth the upgrade. Think of it a refinement at its best.

Good points, resale and warranty are valid reasons to trade up. My comments really focused on the complaints that I have with the phone as most other people have covered the high points, and of course there are many. It's subjective, obviously, but I don't think anything else out there at the moment surpasses it as a complete package.
I never owned a note 3 before. But I do own a 2012 Note 10.1 which I love very much. This Note 4 is even faster than my tablet and it really is impressive with everything I can do with it.
From Dante's Inferno via XDA Premium HD

Am I too poor to be excited about the Note 4?

OK, I guess if I had infinite money, then I'd just go out and buy a new smartphone every year, but unfortunately I'm not. Though I will spend money on tech that I think are important, eg I bought a little xmas prezzie for myself in the form of a 51 inch plasma telly.
It's just that I already have a Note 2. I'd be paying a fair bit of money over 24 months to get a Note 4 and I just don't feel as excited by this piece of new tech as I "should be"? The screen isn't much bigger than the Note 2, which 2 years on still actually does everything I need it to do, though it has inexplicable slowed down a little than it used to be (maybe memory too full).
It just doesn't seem that revolutionary from the Note 2. My last 3 phones were Nokia N86, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Note 2. And going to the Note 4 just doesn't as seem as revolutionary as the previous jumps?
I have mucho respect for you! I wish I could make a full 2 year run on a smartphone. I haven't found one that either didn't crash, smash, or just frustrate me to hell and back (or I fried rooting it). I actually liked my LG G2 and wouldn't have upgraded, but it hit the 6 month mark and the digitizer went haywire. 6 months. That's the least time any phone has lasted me. A year is average. So far, I'm not impressed with my Note 4, and may return it within the 14-day period. The battery life is truly unimpressive, the camera has focus problems, it lags all over the place, the interface is so...2010...the only thing that I really do like about it: SAMOLED. The Samsung displays are beautiful, and it doesn't hurt my head at all. My G2 gave me headaches. I may 'downgrade' or just try another device.

I pulled the triger and after 2 years I switched from Note 2. You right, it is not a big jump like before ( originally switched from HTC G2 to Note 2 ) but there is not coming back to 720p screen for me. This one is a beast.

I had the note 2 for a full year right when it came out. I sold it after a year to get the g2. After a year with the g2, I'm so glad to be back to the note family, specifically the note 4. This phone is a beast, I can easily see myself keeping this one for a full 2 years!! It's definitely an upgrade over the note 2 by leaps and bound.

I may 'downgrade' or just try another device.

i am sorry to say this but you are lying! Troll alert!
I bought the note 2 when it came out and loved it but was getting some usb charge board issues about a month before the note 4 came out, i decided to pre order the note 4 and got it on release day and it's a superb phone the best I've ever owned and a good upgrade from the note 2 I think personally.
The screen alone is amazing.
@Rudy:
What specifically is he lying about?
Some people have reported battery issues, and it is a known fact that TouchWiz is somewhat laggy compared to other launchers/themes. Although it has been getting a lot better in recent versions and IME, I have almost no lag on my phone. Also if you check around quite a few people have been having an issue with their camera and focus issues.
His personal experiences with various phones are his own. Unless you were there to witness his usage of the phones.
Calling someone a troll and a liar without backing it up with verifiable facts from credible industry sources is in very poor form and very un-cool.
So either provide some backup with verifiable links to industry sources to prove him/her wrong, or quietly go on with your life and leave others be.
i upgrade on a 5 yr cycle. went to the note 4 910u from a nokia n8.
camera is slightly better (16mpx ois vs 12mpx), software is much better compared to symbian, storage is more (160GB vs 40GB), wireless charging and bluetooth and screen are better, lag is gone once i enabled dev mode with animations off.
i would not upgrade on less than a 4yr or 5yr cycle. thats the best ROI. if you have a note 2 stay with it until 2017/18.
Lol I cant stay on one phone more than 5 months

Well it isn't the same for everyone. For me battery is awesome on this phone 6h non stop heavy usage, over 2 days on moderate - this is double comparing to my previous phone which was Nexus 5. Touchwiz is s#*@= comparing to Google launcher tough, went straight to nova. Basically my opinion is: brilliant piece of hardware and very, very bad software. I hope someday we will get pure android rom.

The simple reason is because you are not fully utilising the Note 2 and hitting the boundaries of the phone itself. If you were hitting the edges you would notice that the extra performance from the Note 4 would be awesome.
I change my phone every few months and the boundary i had was lack of wireless charging on my previous phone (sony z2 32gb 3gb). The Samsung S4 and S5 had terrible camera and the lack of the additional 1GB really hurt.
It took me 3 weeks to open my note 4 box and start using it because i was putting off transferring the data. All i have really got from S5/Z2 to Note 4 is the wireless charging.

I would say that his approach is way more sensible than yours. You could have easily incorporate wireless charging to both xperia z2 and galaxy s5 for much less money than note 4 cost. If that was the only edge you were looking for you simply wasted your money.

Sony Z2 has no wireless charging at all only the Z3 has but it does have 3GB
Galaxy S5 only has 2GB not 3GB (not enough)
actually from looking at some rumours about upcoming phones, I'd be interested in the next-gen Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the so rumoured Z4 ultra, with 6.4" screen and 1440p and stylus support. but that's just vapourware atm, CES will tell.
funnily enough, i just want a bigger screen in a new phone, like that is literally the top priority. the current z ultra is a year old so its processors/res etc rules it out. though it's not too expensive to buy outright now on ebay.
I've upgraded from a note 2 and the difference is significant. The upgrade in these camera alone was worth it.
I started saving money when i bought the note 2, so the note 4 was paid off as soon as it came out.
I am writing this message from my note 2,as it's a nice device to mess around with now, and I'm currently running Lollipop ?

I didn't check it for long time and didn't know that Sony resigned from wireless charging cover. My bad.
I'm not sure you understood his post. He didn't say that there is no difference, neither I did. All I am saying is, I believe his approach is more sensible. According to you 1gb ram and wireless charger is worth 600GBP, and for me it is not. Amount of people who will need that extra ram is relatively small, I updated from nexus 5 only because I could, not because it was by any means necessary. Both phones are more then capable of running any app from Google play smoothly, many of them would work better on nexus for that simple reason that Samsung apps use huge amount of ram/cpu and unless u root there is no way to disable them.
I was on the Note 3 and didn't had any plans to get the Note 4 as I thought it wasn't worth upgrading to.
But I haven't regret it a second! The quality of the phone is amazing! Better screen and better battery life. Love it!

I upgrade every two years. My previous phone was the note 2 and I'm thoroughly impressed. Everything, other than battery life, is a dramatic improvement. What really make this phone revolutionary upgrade from any other devise is gear vr. Think of all the advancements ever brought to the smartphone market and realize that nothing compares to gear vr.

This plus imagine Note 4 + Gear VR + Gear S! Although Gear VR will not allow you to call or text when the user is wearing it, with Gear S, you could do that by talking to S-Voice! I have not tried this out personally - because I am poor, but it should work... right? :S That and advanced s-pen :3
But for the whole upgrading thing: If I were to upgrade my phone today - or within the year, I would go with the Note 4. If I were patient enough to wait a few more months, well, then clearly I wouldn't get the note 4 S: The way I see it though, technology has been upgrading crazy fast so it's no big deal if you're out of the loop lol
edit: I am biased though since I already own the note 4 + VR

[POLLS] GALAXY NOTE 5 is OUT. Will you Upgrade?

The Brand New Galaxy NOTE 5 has just been officially announced by Samsung. Its pretty obvious that a lot of Galaxy Note 4 users were excited about the New device till they got the knowledge of what was under the hood. What was really making the New device tick. This instead brought up some mixed feelings (and made some of us curious and some even mad).
So judging from the information we already have about the Galaxy Note 5 (if not, try here) the obvious and most important question is: Is it a worthy Upgrade from what you already own? and another question is: WILL YOU UPGRADE?
Lets vote, vote, vote and try predicting the fate of the New NOTE.
Samsung decided for me, they won't even let me buy it.
No. I won't, and I always do. I change phones 3 times a year. I'm an addict. I had GS6 and switched to G4 which I like better. I was 100% sure I'd buy the Note 5, but when they decided to just take the S6 and make it bigger, and add the S pen I decided against it. Note has always been a premium device, not a bigger gs6. This reeks of Samsung choking the profit out of its loyal following like Apple with there S upgrade.
What will happen? It will sell. The Sammy Sheep will follow their Shepard. I also believe there are more consumers who have NO IDEA about the SOC and tech info who will just buy the big phone.
I'm going to look at the Moto Pure, and even though it has the 808, I don't feel like Moto is trying to stick it to me like Samsung.
Man LG has a golden opportunity. Let's hope they know it and act on it. If they'd put out a 5.7 " screen with a bigger removable battery, SD card, stylus, and the 820 they'd kill it

Definitely not. As dicemaster said, it wont be available in my country. Furthermore, not worthy enough tot replace my 910c.
lol is that even a question? yet still better joke then samsung made.
LOL. I think it's clear from this poll that the Note 5 hasn't been well received by the kind of people who post here, generally hardcore users. No doubt Samsung hopes that casual users will make up for that but I doubt that will happen. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and release a better Note 6. Till then I am happy to continue with the Note 4 which is still great and probably the best smartphone available.
Say No For Glass
using Glass was such a stupid idea
The fact that my line's still on contract until December 2016 aside (yes, Sprint still does contract pricing on our grandfathered plan), why would I downgrade to a Note 5 when I have a Note 4 that does more (removable battery, microSD, IR blaster) and is already quite fast and responsive on 5.1.1 OG5?
The only good thing I have to say about the Note 5 right now is that it just makes the existing Note 4 that much more valuable, possibly the last great Samsung phone if they don't get their act together for the Note 6.
No way. Looks like it's all downhill from here on in for Sammy.

To me the Note 5 presentation was an EPIC FAIL.
Far to many praising words "awesome, great, design, best, word's first, etc..." and very little content.
They could make the whole presentation in a few seconds, "The S6 edge plus, the larger S6 edge. The Note 5 the larger s6 with a pen."
I saw people clapping for no reason, even for the 90s style cheap looking plastic keyboard/cover which was in fact the only thing new they could show us.
WOW... Samsung you made history!
i dont spent my money in this trash.my note 4 is better then 5.for some extras of note 5 i wait the devs...

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 versus Note 4: What's the difference?
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-5-versus-note-4-whats-difference
I beg to differ. I think the Note 5 offers a whole different design to the Note series. Yes it's like S6 blown up, but the core functionality of Note is still there. Note 5 is like an improvement over Note 4, albeit without a SD card and removable battery. I await to see battery scores before I make the switch. If you've handled (and love) the S6/S6 Edge, I'm pretty certain you'll love the Note 5.
I'll just counter no SD card with this:
http://www.sandisk.sg/products/mobile-flash-drives/dualdrive/
Also, since the S$1188 64GB Note 5 is available in Singapore from Saturday 15 August onwards (not a typo!) with preorder goodies like Fast Wireless Charging Pad amongst others, I might just switch!! Awaiting the hands-on tomorrow.
Plus side
Wireless charging
Keyboard cover.Extra for some
Speakers?! Not sure there
Samsung pay
Octa core and less battery drain

None of the plus sides you list compensates for micro sd slot.
Wireless charging is always sluggish and useless to me, 4gb ram is only noticed in heavy multitasking and found in 1/3rd of the price Asus Zenfone 2, Keyboard cover is ugly, pointless and useless, speakers are not a pro (not front facing stereo speakers), Samsung pay will only work when Note 6 or 7 is launched, cpu performance of the note 4 was never an issue, camera is practically the same.
Looking at Note 4 firmware track records, you can assume that the Note 5 will be forgotten by Samsung after one year.
no removable battery+no sd card.......well i came from lg and since lg will lauche the g4 pro with 5.8 inchs+above 20 pixel camera....and not to mention the next g flex 3...probably going back to lg!!!
personally it dont worth the upgrade....

BOOM!! +1000!!
You hit the nail on the head, exactly my thoughts.
The Note 5 just made my Note 4 more precious, I am going to stick with it, get a 128GB MicroSDXC for it and a new case as it will have to serve me another year now, no thanks to Samsung!
Samsung has disappointed the most loyal of users, the 'Power Users', they actually do not realise how influential we can be, especially thanks to popular tech sites, blogs and YouTube reviewers. They are going to pay hard for this mess!
I changed my batteri like to times today because I was a busy and used it all day it save me a lot of work and was online the hole day without any plugging until now of course, and it seems I can't do that with the note 5 so no not at all I will keep note 4 until they come with a better one next year with an exchangeable battery this is seriously the only reason I picked the note 4 , thy've should keept the note series far away from the S series they so dumb if next year the same design I'm going to LG that for sure
Can't believe Sammy would throw away all the things that made the note stand out. Am definitely not getting a note 5.

Wireless Chargin: Already have the cover...
Keyboard cover: wtf?
speakers?: not a plus if it isn't known or confirmed.
Samsung pay: (isn't this just beepngo tech? doesn't the note4 have this?)
octacore and less drain: This is probably true, but it will only offset for the smaller battery most likely.
4gb ram: this is definitely a plus, but only if their software isn't a memory hog.
better camera: I believe it is the exact same camera.
This poll is actually insane! I haven't seen a new launch device have the community so polarized against purchasing it ... 92% not liking it... that isn't good for business samsung.
I personally could have gotten on board with a non-replaceable battery, but to kill the sd card too... not good. They should have just given it a little tray. Isn't samsung the biggest retailer of sdxc cards anyways? what the heck.. don't they want to sell sdxc cards to everyone?

What's your next device? Note 7 or something else?

I'm assuming a lot of you are like me, and have had the Note 4 close to 2 years now- close to paid for... wondering if anyone is considering getting a Note 7 or something else and why?
I was all excited about upgrading to a Note 7 but the limited research I've done based on the S7 is the bootloader will probably be locked meaning no root, no roms, etc... so now I'm not sure if I just stick it out a while long with my Note 4 or look elsewhere for another device? (nexus ###?)
Comments appreciated.

It's a pain in the butt shopping for where to go from the Note 4. Where, oh where, is it's successor? I so hate the idea of a non-replaceable battery. Maybe, if it wouldn't be too grueling to take my next "sealed" phone apart to replace the dang thing. The next big screen Nexus? Arrrgggghhhhhh!
Well if I didn't just post a lengthy reply to a similar question in the Intl. forum! (In fact I did; this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/moving-to-flagship-t3404126 my ramblings are the first post on page 4 ) Bullet points:
* I think the Note 4 is (still, 2 years in) a great device and I plan on keeping mine after making my last few payments. It will be a super fancy universal IR remote... ...among other things Definitely no shortage of ways to repurpose an old/extra Android device.
* I really hope the upcoming Nexus has expandable storage... I could see that happening this year with Google's "adoptable storage" (and other OEM's failing to... adopt it ) It's equally possible that I just really want that to happen. Either way, if it does, the larger screen version will be my next phone.
* The Note 7 looks beastly and if it doesn't have a locked bootloader I might go for it. The thing is, I'd really like to avoid buying anything from TMO aside from service... ya know, "vote with my wallet" against their abysmally late updates. I have a "new" Tab S2 TMO variant that's now the only model of that tablet that hasn't been updated to MM yet, making it as well as my N4 dead last (including other carriers) to receive the 10 month old OS. No way I can throw down up front for a $$$ N7 though, and I did do a couple of exchanges with the TMO insurance that were super easy, so bootloader unlocked = maybe, locked = not. a. chance. (not that I'd ever pay money for a "computer" that locks me out from self-administration, but particularly since I trust TMO 0% wrt updates and may need to handle that myself.)
* Option 3 = ??? Hoping to find the following: strong/friendly development community, expandable storage, >= 5.5" quality display, standard headphone port (IMO it's ridiculous that dropping this is becoming "a thing" w/o a superior replacement), and "good" battery life. Hopefully not asking too much in 2016, sure was in 2015.
Currently leaning towards a Nexus I suppose... not really in any rush to move on from the N4. Oh and definitely agree @steven.m - sealed battery = planned obsolescence but (clearly) any phone without a completely impractical metal unibody is simply not "PREMIUM" enough for... something something... of today! Note that a removable battery isn't even on my "wish list"... I was trying to make it realistic
I'll keep this N4 until it's dead. Then I'll most likely look at Nexus, HTC or Moto devices. About the only thing I'll miss is the WiFi calling.

Xiaomi Mi Max for me
Xiaomi Mi Max 6.5 inches of Android goodness, plus removable battery and sd card support. Samsung has iphoned their way out of my hands. If I wanted a iphone I would have bought a iphone, but such is life. Wife has s7 edge and she keeps telling me it is the worst phone she has ever owned. With that in house review why would I buy a Note 7?

Yes, and the capacity can be battery capacity can be maximised this way since they don't have to make provisions for the battery to be removed.
I think I'm done with Samsung for now. Waiting for the Note 4 MM update this long and the fact that they basically abandoned the Galaxy Tab Pro six months after they released it have really turned me off.
I think I'll be trying one of the 'upstart' manufacturers. I've been considering the Huawei Mate line for a while now, but their software has always been a drawback (but at least they update it). Now I've been reading that they are making software and their EMUI skin a priority as they attempt to break into the US/NA market. I look forward to seeing what they've got. Also, T-Mobile specific versions of any phone seem to not get nearly as much development, which is understandable. But I think I'll get an unlocked international phone next time.
I will be keeping my Note 4 (just like I still have my Note 3) for use with the virtual reality headset that I will be getting. It still has enough processing power and a very good screen resolution for that type of activity.
I'm thinking about the zenfone 3 ultra 6.8inch monster lol
The note 7 isn't on my radar, I too am think of going with a nexus if it has a memory card slot but all of this won't be for a while as I just traded in my s7 ( which was part of bogo ) and got my note 4 back that I jumped about 6 months ago. I missed it so much I will keep it for ever, even after its paid off. I also have the s7 edge which just became rootable so I might play with it for a while but it's my work phone and I have until November before I can jump again but it won't be a Sammy phone. I don't really like the s7 edge as those edges are a real nightmare unless you have a case on it you will have accidental touches that will drive you crazy. I'll hold on to my note 4 until next year and then start looking.
I didn't realize the s7 had been rooted

I have the Honor 5x which is from Huawei also., bought it a few months to test, for $200 premium looking, metal casing, 2 sim slots and external sd... but no removable battery and we are supposed to get MM any day now..
but yes I think I want a google phone, but it has to have external sd, maybe I can deal with non removable battery, but who knows. and they better start lowering prices of phones, they would sell more and sell every year selling at about $500.. that's just me thinking out load.. :silly:
because I have my father in law had the S2 very outdated and giving him problems.., so off went my note 3 which was my sons, so he plays with it,
I started with HTC, had almost every single phone till the M7, then moved to Samsung from S2, S3, Note 2, 3, 4.. and on the Notes had 2 of each, for me and my wife.. also with the M7.. I have paid to much on phones and then they don't take care of the updates which the dev do it better than Samsung is very disappointing since manufacturing them is really under $200 coming from the take downs of the devices.. way to much profit, then they expect us, to buy new phones every year...
try to return a new phone u buy in T-Mobile, they offer u half of less after 3 or 4 months then they sell it back as certified phones for double than what they paid getting it back from you... really sucks..
remember a phone is for making phone calls......
I have a pc, laptop,
2 tablets Samsung as well, and they stop with the updates after a year. u get lucky maybe give it a year 2 or 3 months...
super surprised about this MM update on our phones giving that we are almost on our 2 year.. very surprised, guess they are trying to say we will support them longer... remember Note 4 came with KitKat, then Lollipop, and now MM... wow....
darn even apple updates the phones till the older phones can't except the updates to slowing it down or not enough space left..
opps rambling, let me stop... haha
This is a good question I guess it depends on if note 7 comes with 820 or something better I won't buy a 820 phone there are cheaper options with same processor. Im thinking Nexus. But if note 7 has 4000mah battery it may get my money. My last 2 Samsung phones have had bad gps

but yes I think I want a google phone, but it has to have external sd, maybe I can deal with non removable battery, but who knows. and they better start lowering prices of phones, they would sell more and sell every year selling at about $500.. that's just me thinking out load.. :silly:
because I have my father in law had the S2 very outdated and giving him problems.., so off went my note 3 which was my sons, so he plays with it,
I started with HTC, had almost every single phone till the M7, then moved to Samsung from S2, S3, Note 2, 3, 4.. and on the Notes had 2 of each, for me and my wife.. also with the M7..
I have a pc, laptop,
2 tablets Samsung as well, and they stop with the updates after a year. u get lucky maybe give it a year 2 or 3 months...
super surprised about this MM update on our phones giving that we are almost on our 2 year.. very surprised, guess they are trying to say we will support them longer... remember Note 4 came with KitKat, then Lollipop, and now MM... wow....
darn even apple updates the phones till the older phones can't except the updates to slowing it down or not enough space left..
opps rambling, let me stop... haha

I am getting to the point where I can no longer justify spending $650-700 on a phone. You're right, there are so many decent options now for half the price.
I'm waiting to see what the Nexus phone phones are like this year. I'm hoping they'll have a nice premium phone this year. The 6P was a nice start. HTC may kick it up another notch. Rumors are that Google wants a phone that will directly compete with the iPhone. Well see if that happens. I've had only Samsung smartphones (Galaxy S, Note 2, note 4, galaxy light). It's time for something different
Jeez the note 7 is going to be almost 1000.
Sent from my SM-N910T3 using xda premium
HTC makes the best Nexus phones imo.
I might get the Moto G4 Plus

Agreed... but then again, do I have enough time to monkey around with ROMs again? Realistically - no. If I get an Android device again, I'm just going to have to get the latest Nexus. I'm tired of TW and trying to hack things to make them behave like I want them to...( I'm looking at you NFC icon ).
