hi all
i thought i would attempt to flash my samsung s with the new beta froyo update.
i followed this guys tutorial.
( cant link to it sorry its the noobs guide with detailed instructions through kies and odin)
i used the odin approach
i managed to root the phone.
on reboot it asked for an unlock code (o2 uk) so i went on to try and follow the steps about unlocking it. which neither worked all the way through the steps.
on reboot it appears to have signal and in the about section it says i am onnected to the o2 network but when i try to make a call is says "data network not available with an ok button, which when pressed will return you to the ome screen.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Almost the same problem,
installed 2.2 update successfully, the phone worked for like 3-4 days very well and after that today i discovered "Emergency calls only"
so the question now is did i bought phone which later was reported stolen? or somehow i broke it?
Anyone have any idea?
hmmm, I have the same problem! In the status menu, the number is shown, but the network, says "unknown"
Hi! I have this exact same problem except I was unlocking my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255
But I didn't back up my Efs folder, now my phone is unlocked but when I put a sim card in it I have very little network and when I try to make a call I get " NO DATA NETWORK AVAILABLE".
I've tried everything but I don't know what to do!
I was thinking of two ways to fix it:
1. Reinstall froyo (not quite sure how using the samsung software as my laptop oesn't recognised the phone as a pone)
2. Downgrade to, get unlock code using market app and then upgrade to froyo again.
I know I messed up but now I really need to fix this.
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

might need to change the modem in odin i think. just heard about it
did u try restarting the phone... just a wild guess...
I had the same issue before and was puzzled. Its actually a very simple solution:
1. Re-lock your phone, search through xda there is a code you have to enter
2. Unlock your phone
All done! Surprisingly easy
Try the Odin method in block 2 back to Eclair if ok then upgrade to Froyo .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
However your non connection might be due to not flashing a firmware with your network settings in which case manual settings of APN .
If your IMEI has changed due to flashing and you did not back up your EFS folder then little hope but do a google / search of XDA as some have reported success .

Emergency calls only
I had a custom rom that was giving that to me too. I think it means that you can access a network different from your sim (because usually emerg calls can be made from any phone I think?).
I'd try and find a rom that is optimized for your carrier or at least a modem file from a stock rom that is for your carrier. You may also need to reselect the APN settings (or enter them for your carrier). Its under settings/wireless and network/Mobile networks/access point names (use the menu button to add an APN).
you could also try re downloading and flashing the rom to make sure that is the issue. Mine said it installed OK but never booted up, redownloaded and reflashed and then it was fine but the install screens looked identical.

Hi! Thank you so much for everyone's replies!
My IMEI isn't changed and someone helped me check my efs files and they are all ok. I'm going to try and reflash froyo through the samsung software to see if the network lock comes back and then try to unlock again. For this I'm going to unroot the phone and follow samsungs' instructions.
I'm afraid to relock the phone as there are reports that say it completely messes everything up!
But I'll keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!!!!
PS. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
So, a quick update on my situation.
I uninstalled busybox and unrooted my phone using the oneclick root tool.
Did a factory format and, surprise surprise, my phone now works perfectly!
Apart from the fact that it doesn't connect to kies, but that's a whole another issue!
Tank you so much to all of you who answered my cry for help!

Dear friends,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note. I tried flashing several custom ROMs. Then I figured out that my GSM modem loses signal every now and then and I have to restart the phone every couple of minutes. (Going to flight mode and returning back also works).
I thought it relates to Custom ROM, so I get back to the stock ROM, but didn't solve the problem. I tried flashing different modems using Odin, but all of them are losing signal... So currently I can't use my phone
I live in Iran and tried the following modems:
XXLA1
XXLA3
XXLA4 (My friend's Galaxy Note official ROM uses this as base band)
Maybe I have to get back everything (include partitioning) to factory defaults from the scratch... But how?
FYI: My SIM works well on other phones.
Please help... :crying:
Check your efs folder. Search the forums.

In my case, GALAXSIMUNLOCK didn't work :crying:
Also I used EFS Pro to recover NV data and still no hope... I don't have any backup from my EFS folder.
Any other opinion?
How can I restore everything to factory data including EFS and all partitions? Could it work at all?
no way to restore efs to factory defaults if you don't have a backup of that time.

I don't have any IMEI problem, nor a network lock. When there is signal, everything works fine just as usual. There's even no disconnection during calls. But when I leave the phone alone, it loses signal after 5-10 minutes (sometimes more) and I have to restart or enable and disable flight mode.
Maybe it is not related to efs or network lock at all...
[[Update]]
I figured out that the problem only occurs in my apartment's neighborhood and both SIM and GNote 7000 work well anywhere else. But the problem raised just after I changed the ROM.
Could there be something wrong with the nearby BTS and Galaxy Note? My SIM works well in an old Nokia phone in the same area!
normally it should be fine if you flash the modem/radio on your own region.
when you said you have flashed so many modem file, is it from other region, or is it from your own region ?
Previously when I got problem with the signal / network provider, I will just flash back the modem of my own region. Everything works well.

I am using a i9305 (Hong Kong model, bought from Kogan Australia). I am based in Malaysia. Before all this I just popped my sim card in and utilised the stock ROMs. No issues with 4G or network whatsoever, but the phone got really slow after 4.3 to I decided to install CM11 using Heimdall.
Long story short, I absolutely screwed it up, and the phone showed the "software fail" screen. After scouring XDA and undertaking a number of fixes which didn't work (I'm scared this is what screwed my phone), I finally worked out to flash the Hong Kong stock 4.3 ROM using Odin, which brought my phone back to me. However, now I can only pick up Edge and barely get network reception. It is definitely not a sim issue as my sim in my wife's identical i9305 picks up 4G and network within a second of switching on.
I've searched every thread but cannot find an answer which works.I've flashed a whole bunch of modems but to no avail. I hope I haven't screwed my phone. Threads I've utilised include:

Have you tried wiping your cache in stock recovery (or whatever recovery you have, I can't really tell from your post)? I think you had problems with CM11 since you likely dirty flashed (no wipe of cache, data and system) and used Heimdall instead of flashing it through a custom recovery.
Possible answer

When you wipe the whole system to change to another rom, there is always a good chance that you can lose the modem during the process. Rom's may come with their on custom modem , but may not be fully compatible. try to download and flash with odin the modem of the stock rom once again. Your problem is related with the modem
Sorry for not responding, I was in Korea for work and left the bad phone back at home for the past 3 weeks.
I tried the clearing cache, but no good.
I will try flash the stock modem now (see below I notice the difference).
I noticed while syncing my google account that the IMEI on my phone had changed. Would this have anything to do with the issues I am facing? The below is my "before and after".

Stock modem didn't work.
Factory reset, odin flashed the stock software again (with the stock modem). Same issue.
Followed instructions on this page for missing IMEI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Tried *#06# but still no IMEI.
Any solutions?
Tried everything I read in lyquidperfection's awesome mega-thread, but nothing works. still got a /01 when I type *#06# and in the 'about' section it now shows IMEI: Unknown.
Everything else works fine, just the internet is stuck on Edge.
so I tried a few more things today but to no avail.
The IMEI shows up as "Unknown" in the phone settings and when I do *#06* I get a /01 message.
However, when I check my IMEI against my Google account, I get the above number.
Any suggestions as how to fix?
as of today, new modem is being release. I9305XXUFNI3
info here
for modem u can read this
download links from page, or this link
im quite new, but i hope this helps.
Thanks. Didn't work, still Edge.
Going to try flash again.
You could try running a different country's stock ROM, or maybe seeing whether you get 4G while using a custom ROM (Liquidsmooth maybe).

1. Restore a working QCN backup (like this one) http://www.mediafire.com/download/4j...4_19-53-39.rar through the download tool of the QPST suite
2. Change the IMEI to match yours. <<<<. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP. There are many way to do this, i used RF NV manager. I can't be more specific since this topic is off-limits on XDA.
3. Perform a factory reset.
I can't test LTE connection, because where I live there is no coverage, but I'll try as soon as I can.

For absolute n00bs like me:
Step #1, use QPST Suite from this thread to install the QCN backup as per above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915
Step #2, uninstall QPST, follow this thread (post #4): http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/
>> I didn't have the US version LTE phone, but it works on my LTE International
Step #3, go into recovery and wipe cache and factory reset.
>> *#06# should show your imei, and your 4G should be back. mine came back instantly two months of pain over!!!!!!!!
Hi Guys, Im a bit new to all this but ...
After updating my old phone a mate asked me to have a go at his Galaxy S I9000.
Rooted ok updated to ICS and got heaps of errors poping up randomly. so I did a restore which failed to the point CM recovery couldn't mount anything so I found and followed instructions to recover a soft bricked phone which included PDA PHONE and CSC files,
This got rid of the errors but wouldn't recognize the SIM at all. so I tried another restore to the nandroid backup (figured I had nothing to lose), now it recognizes the Sim, has an IMEI, efs and csc folders/files. if I go to settings all the settings are back in there (Vodafail Australia) but I get no signal....not sure where to go from here....do I need to find another CSC for it or what...ANY help would be much apreciated Ta
just to clarify the phone if Vodafone branded, network unlocked and useing an Amaysim SIM (optus carrier)
have you tried flashing a different baseband
Hello guys! So.. i have a s3 LTE and i recently flashed amcha rom kk 4.4.2. The problem was that the gps was not working fine so i followed a thread in which it was said that going to service mode, then utms, common, nv rebuild, restore backup would solve the problem. So i did that and after i rebooted the phone, it asked me for the network lock code and said my sim was invalid. It has never done this before. I received this phone in 2012 carrier-unlocked. I never had to enter that code. i have the 4.1.2 bootloader. I had previously done a nv data backup with QPST tools, but unfortunately i lost it. Also, i have the auto efs backup that agni kernel does if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i have been struggling for hours and this basically rendered my phone useless

Just follow the steps in my thread TO THE LETTER HERE and re-simunlock it. Then do the exact same steps, UMTS-COMMON-NV REBUILD and then tap Erase only Backup, then after it is done head back and tap on Make Back-up. You are all set now in case you restore the NV again by mistake, the simlock status will remain OFF.
The sim-unlocked devices do not really exist, they are just unlocked from the factory after a NV backup. If you restore the default NV, it simlocks it.

I will try the method as soon as i get home and will come back with an update. Also, i noticed that my phone was bought from orange france so i sent them a request for the network unlock code and i should receive it today.
