Thanks

I'm very curious to know this as well, I'm on S6 Edge however (SM-G925A..OF3). Will rooting through #srsroot trip knox counter? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wonder if this works on OF3 and OF4. I would love to hear this works.

Haven't used that software before but maybe it just needs an update for the recent phones? Maybe try loading an SU app from the play store and see what says?

Figuring maybe the devs of this ware may be here, I thought I would ask. You are as free as I am to look on their Twitter feed, web site to verify what I posted. I'm just someone who wants # on an at&t a0f3 and thought to ask a community I thought was is the "game", first.
I'm as disappointed as you if this does not work.... sorry...... but, seeing as new posters are trolls without wit, I say good-day. rmuser -v mobile.*
Thanks. Nice welcome

I tried today, no luck. I'm guessing they may have accidentally identified it as a working method.

Are this group known / trustworthy?
You might want to drop their exe into a good virus checker on your pc, and see if it finds anything malicious, beyond the expected exploit to achieve root.
AoN

Weird, they keep posting the active as having root on OF3. Wth?

I think when you run the utility it states that it worked and gave permanent root even though it didn't. Since this is a server based tool I'd guess that the utility reports back to there site/feed that it successfully rooted the OF3 build even though it didn't. The more people see this, the more people try, and the more it keeps reporting that it works. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

Read back in the thread a few pages - 1) GeoHot works for Google now. Hired to find and close exploits like the one towelroot used to root devices; 2) towelroot used a specific vulnerability in kernels dated before June 3. If your kernel is dated after June 3, the vulnerability has been patched and there is nothing GeoHot can "fix" to make towelroot work on your device; and related to that 3) either your phone has the vulnerability or it doesn't and towelroot either works to root your device or it doesn't and there is nothing GeoHot can do to fix towelroot to make it work for your device. Plus, like I said before GeoHot works for Google now so he can't create programs or apps that root phones by exploiting vulnerabilities he is supposed to now be fixing. Now that this same question has been answered for the 1,000,000th time in this thread, can we please get it closed?

Look on the bright side. We needed CM and other AOSP variants in the past because most devices performed like crap. Now while not as smooth as stock Android, still rather speedy. Customization can be done with xposed mods.
Even if stuck on stock, it's not really that bad, to be honest.
You guys need to start learning something... for the sake of development...

No, I'm with you. I don't flash AOSP ROMs. I'm just afraid of not being able to upgrade to a stock, rooted TouchWiz Android L ROM.
But you're right, Samsung has put in the work and optimized TouchWiz over the years. I have no complaints with the performance.

I don't see why not. We're rooted with custom recoveries. As long as someone released a proper rom it can be flashed.
Otherwise just use Odin to flash the stock rom and root it again.

At least you had the 3G model and official JB (Asia only) . My Wi Fi model was thrown into the dung heap by Samsung after less than 12 months and no official JB or support theater.... Thanks to bodivas for the initial port to the P6810, I could then work from there with newer contributions.
They just ignore the GPL license to support devices for at min of 18 months. There are other OEM that refuse to provide full source too. What does Google do, nothing....
The only way is as you implied, to be proactive and help ourselves (and others) where skill/knowledge and time permit
Good modding !!
More than one way to skin a cat also....
I think they will have support for android L since the specs of the tab S match the requirements of the OS
it's easier for samsung to develop android L for exynos device . i hope my tab will have android L teeheehee
On which webpage provide SAMSUNG there (patched) opensource?
At least recovery image include binary which can't compiled from android source...

@deepen915, are you going to try rooting this?
Android central has an article on it here:

Mostly just looks like bug fixes. I bet it breaks root though.

Can someone grab the ota and post it? It can be modified to update w/out breaking root.
Why so quick to update? Is the system that unstable on the s5?
Risk your root for a little security fix and stability. I think not. Why not just ask a dev if they can get you current rom stable with a update made by someone not trying to screw you around...... ATT.......
A guy in the comments, on the Android Central post about this update, said that he took the OTA and it did not break root.
I'm still kind of scared to do it though.

I think it will too. It's just that this guy claims that he updated while being rooted and still has root after the update. Maybe he's trying to pull a fast one on us.
I'm running Dynamic Kat anyway, so there is no way I'm taking a chance at not being able to flash safe strap again.

[Q] How to root S5 Active (SM-G870A) G870AUCU1BOC5

I'm trying to root my S5 Active. It's never been rooted before and I've never rooted a phone before besides a simple one touch with towelroot on an old spare phone. It's updated to Android 5.0 with the 3.4.0 Kernel. Any help with simple instructions would be great. I'm new to rooting but I'm good with computers so if whatever I need to do is explained I'll be good. Thanks.
P.S. Would towelroot work? I've heard it doesn't with 5.0 and don't want to try and have something happen.

Is this the safest way?
yes
This method says you already have to have root. Is there a way to get root if your already on 5.0 with no root?
no
so after some reading i found this in
xda-developers AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5 AT&T Galaxy S5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting Tried downgrading from 5.0 to 4.4.2 now bricked...HELP PLEASE by dmyszko141
post #7 thru #11 it discusses how to downgrade the g870a (s5active) from 5.0 back to 4.4.2
i have not tried this yet, but probably will soon.
towelroot
I've tried to use the towelroot system on my s5 active and it will not work, the end game tells you - your phone is not supported. so it is a just a waste of your time to try that root. I am in the same boat and looking a root program too. so good luck.
S-5 Active SM-G870A phone and root issue
I hope this is the correct spot for this post.
I have a Galaxy S5 Active SM-G870A that was rooted when using 4.2.2. When it was still rooted I did an update to 4.4.4 (shows G870AUCU1AOA2) which took away the root status and now shows as a "Custom ROM" when booting. I cannot get to Lollipop update because the update fails, I think due to the Custom ROOM status. I wanted to re-root the phone to use an app to reset the custom ROM issue but cannot find a CF-Auto Root file for the AT&T Active. I was going to try flashing it with Odin using the NE4 kernel to root it with towel root, but I can't find the original kernel to download to flash it back to after I root it. When I originally rooted the phone I had XP on my home PC, after updating my PC I no longer have the information saved that I used to root it the first time. I know it was with Odin, but don't remember how and have been doing periodic internet searches to no avail.
This has been going on for quite a while now and is driving me crazy because I cannot root the phone or update it in it's current condition. Can someone help me? Thanks so much for your time.

He's actively exploiting the s7. Testing Qualcomm variants the 15th.
That's just to show some legit progress rather than this nonsense post.

He did not even post a download link for anything so you clicked an add that's in plain sight and downloaded something that was not what he posted because he did not post a download link!
I did not click on any download link. I simply googled the program he was using, and there were multiple Trojan horses associated with it.

Huh.... guess it was legit.
I rooted using this method
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3567502
I have a SM-G935A running T-Mobile 7.0.
I just installed it, seems to be running pretty good. Definitely a lot smoother than the MM eng root. I mainly installed because I wanted to get Google assistant lol.
To enable Google assistant you have to use a root explorer app or ADB and change + add a line to the system/build.prop
Change first line to
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
Copy and paste this into system/build.prop
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
Reboot and you have Google assistant!
