Applying HTC ROM Upgrade on Vodafone

I have a Vodafone branded Touch Pro 2 running ROM version 1.14.161.5. I have managed to download the latest HTC ROM upgrade 1.19.401.1 which is on the HTC website, but yet everytime I attempt to install it I keep getting an error message (294) informing me that there is an invalid vendor ID and that the update cannot be used for my PDA.
As Vodafone take an eternity to bring out ROM upgrades - and also the fact that I can't stand their annoying red theme - I wanted to ditch the Vodafone ROM and install the new HTC ROM so any ideas?

hard SPL your handset, then you can install any rhodium rom you want on it.

and follow instructions, it is so easy and safe as long as u follow the instructions strictly.

Your Vendor is Vodafone, not HTC. If you want to upgrade you should use the Hard SPL first.

Guyz,i am a newbee and i need a good help from u all.
I got a new htc hd7 generic phone??
And its "about phone" are
Name: htc hd7 t9292
Os version:7.0.7004.0
Firmware revision number:2250.09.16001.401
Hardware revision number:0002
Radio software version:5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10v
Radio hardware version:A.102.0.D4
Bootloader version:1.60.2250.0(114364)

So here is what i need and what i want to know
1) does i have the latest version?
2)if not then what is the latest version, and what are nodo and mango?
3)can i get the ruu(original htc hd7os) of any of the latest version?and from where?
4)does the ruu contains all the required os areas like radio,rom etc.
5)how can i flash it to my phone?do i require zune? And why(is it just for drivers)?Or there is any tool for ruu flashing?
6)i want to install app(certainly more than 10) in my phone, and for that what i want to do? I dont have market in my country,as the market app said, when i tried to download app, so the only way is to download it in computer and then move it to phone, so what are the tools i need?
7) does my original ruu alow me to do this?or do i need a custom rom?
8)as my phone is not network locked, what are the things i want to do,just for unlocking the os,so that i can install app.
9)does there is any custom rom,built from the latest winmob7 os?
8)what are the advantages i get,if i use custom rom?(no need to reply in general, coz i know what is a custom rom,kernal, as i am using htc wildfire with cyanogen mod 7.0.3, oc kernal, new radio etc. I know it have many advantages over the original one, but here it is not an android, lol i got the hd7 2days before, and so not so familier with it, thats what my problem)

I searched and read a lot in this forum, fount no stickies, and got confused of various terms like rspl,hspl,slideloading,reg editing,unlocking etc. So i cant get the right procedure/ans for my doubts, so intended to ask i. Pls help me.

2) Flash an official NoDo rom to be up to date with OS, Radio & Bootloader
3) You need to know if your phone is brandet & the region (T-Mobile, O2, Europe, Asian,...)
4) original RUU's contains the whole SW for the phone (radio, bootloader, os,...)
5) for flashing go into the bootloader menu by switch of your ohone & restart it with pressed volume down key.
Zune is needed for drivers & ActiveSync (WinXP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista, Win7) for drivers in Bootloader
With Zune you also get offitial updates (os, radio, Bootloader,...)
6) you need the chevron unlock to sidload apps (only possible on 7004 & 7008)
7) costum roms only if your device is supported by cotullas xspl (see sticky)
8) see point 6
9) ansars rom is the only costum rom which can be updated via zune
There are also 2 DFT costum roms but with these you can not update any further
8) ?!? you mean 10 ==> you do not need 7004 or 7008 to unlock the rom
after unlocking you need less time to come to the latest os version via zune
9) ?!? you mean 11 ==> if your phone is supported by xspl than flash HSPL (Bootloader) to your phone and you be able to flash costum rom's (for radio, os,...)
Chevron unlock is only needed for roms that are not allready unlocked (like custom roms are)

i also have a question:
I have zune and windows mobile device center loaded on my Windows 7 desktop, but wmdc will never recognize my hd7, what can i do because it never works when i try to use the ruu

Windows Mobile Device Center is only for drivers in Bootloader mode
If you shut down your phone and restart it while pressing (and hold) the volume down button, you will enter the bootloader mode.

at the bottom ther will be a text called serial.
if you have connected your device to your computer & installer Windows Mobile Device Center the text will change to USB after the the drivers are correctly installed.
If USB is displayed on your phone you can start flashing a rom by starting the RUU on the PC

no my phone is not a branded one, ie no tmob etc. so which firmware i should use, as i am from india, can i use generic asia? or any unbranded one as long as it contains eng lang?, coz i use english only and dont need any other languages.

what is the use of a gold card( i downgraded my hboot of wildfire using gold card, so i dont mean use of gold card, but how do it work in flashing htc hd7) , also do i need it to flash any ruu or custom rom?

so what do u mean by 7004 and 7008? is it updates or some thing else? i know there are 7720 mango for hd7 flying around, so is it official or a leaked one? does chevron work in it? or can i hack it by any method, so that i can slidload more than 10 app?
and what is the latest custom rom with no sidload limit? can i get a 7720 mango custom rom?
can i get the drivers only? i dont want the whole zune and active sinc

you do not need to flash anything!
Install Zune and update your OS via it to NoDo version.
If you want to unlock you phone (jailbreak, not simunlock) than you have to use the chevron unlock process bevor you update via zune
your phone haf to be un os version 7.0.7004 or at least 7.0.7008 with newer os Versions you can not use chevron anymore.
as I think you have a normal european HD7:
Firmware revision number:2250.09.16001.401
so if you want to flash you have to look for original European roms
if you want to flash other roms (other regions or costum roms) you can use xspl or goldcard
xspl is a new hacked bootloader wich has the ability to flash every HD7 rom you like.
goldcard is a methode which could bypass the CID/MID check like xspl does but you need aditional components for that (y-cable, goldcard,...)
you are right when we talk about versions or build numbers, we take about the os version 7.x.xxxx
WP7 start with build 7004
Nodo have build 7390
Mango RTM has build 7720 not official available via zune
conclusion:
if you want to sidload apps you have to unlock you phone as long as it runs on 7004 or 7008

If you are not afraid of flashing roms, start with xspl (simplest methode)

I don't know if you can extract the drivers from Windows Mobile Device Center, but Zune is necessarry for updating.

Oh no, once again I got stuck, all things I have installed in my win7 ultimate lap, such as zune 4.8,wmdc etc, and I am able to hspl my device, and in normal mode my lap detects it as a win7 mobile, but still zune can't detect it. So no chevron!!! What is the problem, I tried multiple install-uninstallations, but no luck, help me to do it, pls

[Q] Flashing CUSTOM ROM Newbie Help

Hi xda-developers community,
sr if this question is anoying but i tried to find a answer for it but the only things i was able to find out that some errors occured. But not if Succes or Failed.
I want to developer unlock my HD7 via custom rom.
Here are my System Infos:
OS Version: 7.10.8107.79
Firmware: 2250.21.51101.401
Hardware: 0002
Bootloader: 5.11.2250.0(134578)
Chip-SOC: 2.2.5.0
I have noticed that the bootloader is my main problem. I first need to downgrade. Problem no Synco Save via Zune (damaged HardDisk).
So is there any actual way to successfully downgrade my HD7 to a version to be able to install a Custom Rom?
And another question is, when really accomplished to flash a custom rom, is it possible to update via Zune or does this recover to normal rom?

1) For what i need to download task 00 & task 29? In ur tut they are never used again? Or did i missed anything?
2) Next is in ansar.ath.gr's tut he tells not to install after downgrade a custom rom with 5.10 Bootloader. Is this ment to if i install a stock ROM with this version that downgrage would loose because i install this bootloader again? (sr for bad english)
3) difference between RSPL & HSPL. as i read the RSPL is only active until restart and the HSPL is fixed. So with the RSPL i can try if everything works correct and the Cook it with the HSPL is this correct?
4) What kind of customs roms can i use for a HTC HD7 Europe/Austria A1???

he says to not install a 5.xx ROM so you avoid putting yourself in the same position you were in before.

RSPL is temporary.
HSPL is permanent.

any Schubert Custom ROM once you are XSPL'd.

i need a little bit ur help x) As usual.
I followed ansars Guide to downgrade my spl. This worked successfully. Tricolor screen says:
PD29100 MFG SS_BC (4K)
SPL-1.57.2250.0(113571)
MicroP(LED) 0x07
TOUCH S1(v1.8,#1624)
When RomUpdateUtility finished an error occured which said that a file is curroped. But Phone rebooted successfully.
First Question was this just a tiny bug or went sth wrong?
Secound Question is: I wanted then to continue installing custom ROM. I used DFT_RSPL to get rspl to flash unsigned custom rom. DFT successfully run trough but phone didn't reboot and no RSPL still SPL. And HSPL cant continue. So my problem is i cant get RSPL to work. What am i doing wrong?

i hadn't ever used ansar's SLSPL before...
i suggest flashing Shipped pre-NoDo or NoDo ROM for your device.
maybe will 'fix' whatever went wrong with SLSPL.

ok thx. actually im downloading pre-nodo 1.54 Europe SPL. Sadly Rapidshare free is actually really slow 30Kb/s
When finished downloading i will try to flash this Version over Ansars and then RSPL -> to flash custom ROM.

Success !!!
After ansars SPL i just had to flash a stock ROM. I choosed PRE-NODO 1.54 Europe and then i was able to RSPL and finally flash a Custom ROM.
Really thx for all ur help.
What im now interested in is, which is the best Custom ROM? Or better asked which is not the best, but which should I prefer?
I want as many possibilities as possible.
Actually im having DeepShine Custom ROM active but i want to look trough of the top to make a decision which i will take for further use.
Can someone maybe tell me which is his favourite and why?
And another question is -> whith the custom rom installed am i able to update via zune or shouldn't i do that? (If not how can i sync with zune and prevent zune to update my phone)

Custom ROM choice is all about personal preference.
the top Custom ROMs seem to be:
in alphabetic order: Deepshining, Dynamic7, intrinsic, NextGen+

As i have now the Custom ROM NexrGen+ active i have a problem again x) As usual sr XDA Community.
I cant cumunicate with my pc.
Windows 7 x64
Installed: WMDC, CoreCon2, Zune
The System recognizes that a Windows Phone 7 is plugged in but can install the drivers for it.
Any solution for this?

what drivers are you referring to?

Sr for my bad english. It's not actually the drivers. In German its called "Gerätesoftware" i think its device software. Windows tells me that he wasn't able to install the device windows phone 7.

HTC HD7 flashing Questions

Hello XDA,
I honestly know nothing about Windows Phone and flashing, however here is my problem. HD7 died, so I got it repaired by getting a new SD card installed, however it now longer works, and get stucks at the HTC boot screen. I know of bootmode, but that is about it, it was up to date with the latest version of Windows Phone if that matters.
Basically what I am wondering is how do I fix my phone, do I need to flash it or something? Zune doesn't recognize it when its connected, and my carrier is Bell Canada

What happen that made it quit working after you had it fixed?

The attachment view of your bootloader says you have spl 4.xxx, so you can try and downgrade your spl to 3.xxx or below with shadows tutorial here

To unlock your device you have to downgrade your SPL to at or below 3.xxx and then install RSPL/HSPL and then you can flash a custom rom of your choice.
These are the only methods to downgrade your SPL -
1. Goldcard/ Y cable method - requires a Y cable, either home made or purchased. SD card and a card reader or a flash drive and download a goldcard tool and a stock/shipped Pre-NoDo/NoDo specific rom.
2. Zune restore point by Zubair- if you updated your device from a Pre-Mango state through Zune and still have the PC you did it on, then you can restore your device and then re-update it to Mango again and it will change your SPL to 4.xxx then you can use Shadows tutorial to finish downgrading the device.
3. SLSPL rom by Ansar - This works on Europe devices with firmware revision number .401 and can work on SIM unlocked TMobile devices.
Just follow Shadow's tutorial on downgrading SPL, flashing XSPL and installing roms. It has all the links for the above methods, stock/shipped roms and everything you'll need.
