Power throttling - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have suggested routes to lower battery usage during use? I'm trending at 5 hours of screen time which is a little low for this phone standards. Thinking of something like setcpu or maybe a different kernel?
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

I get around 4 and a half hours of screen on time the way I use it. But I browse a fair bit of web and have at least 2 hours of Hearthstone game time

Right. We should be getting 6 hours

Average on screen time?

Just curious what is everyones average on screen time for the i9305t?
I am averaging 2 and a half hours which i believe is piss poor...
Yeah I think that you're doing something wrong, I get a good 8 hours out of 24 hour battery, a longer battery if I use my screen less

how is that possible? 8 hours of your screen ON. Maybe my phone is a dud or something. Running 4.1.2...
mine says 4 hrs before battery completely drains

I would say I get anywhere between 3 and 4 hours screen time depending on how I use my phone.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Premium HD app
Most times around 4 hours screen on time and 20 hours standby. My maximum where 5 hours screen on and 24 hours standby. But everyone has different apps, syncs.

Install BBS and check what eating your battery. Make sure your system runs without wakelocks. Some apps syncing a lot so check them all in BBS.
I'm getting 3hrs if I play games (Asphalt 7 etc) for more than 2hrs with brightness half way up only.... Normal usage without games and Auto brightness to minimum I'm getting 3-4 hrs over 24hrs (including 1hr+ voice calls)

Battery life is incredible. Post your results here.

This is with screen on full brightness, moderate use, all sensors, sync enabled, and on mobile data. Leaps and bounds over E4GT.
Edit: battery is at 57% still

What's your screen time?
My battery life actually hasn't been that great, almost equal to my S3 if not worse :/

3hrs 13mins. About 30 minutes of that was using the camera.

Agreed. Mine has blown my E4GT away in battery life, and I haven't even been using the little tricks like turning data off when I'm at work yet.
I normally would have to plug mine in by noon after being unplugged since 7am. And that was screen halfway dimmed and barely any use

I agree. Compared to my 3D, AMAZING. Walked out of work at 6PM, it had just dropped below 60% and my 3D would get to that point by 11:30AM.

I'm consistently getting 5 hours of screen time, which I'm pretty happy with. Haven't ever ran it all the way to zero, so could probably get a little more.

All phones have ****ty battery life when you're hacking and popping bursters everywhere. But my GS4 has done the best so far!
I'm excited to see it. I'll leave my house with a full charge, and streaming radio over 3G to my bluetooth headset for 2 hours and browsing the web for 20 minutes knocks my Evo 3D down to 30%.

How?? I only get 4 hrs of screen on time when I have wifi on, power saving mode on, and have brightness at the bare minimum.. Did you 5 hr screen timers do something else to your device like disable sprint bloatware or something?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
Not doing anything special here. Haven't removed any bloat yet, not using power saving mode, using auto brightness.
Maybe I just have a strong signal. Weak signal can cause the radio to ramp up power and chew up a lot of battery...

This. Turning data off when I'm at work (in a thick building) makes a ton of difference.

Will try especially since I have wifi access at work. But yes, I do have a not so great data connection in my area with sprint.

There is no way in hell you are getting 10 hours of screen on time per charge...
Maybe it was just a glitch but i spent 3 hours on phone with screen on fully and it went to 70% so i just expected 10=100

I doubt it was a glitch. That's not actually altogether uncommon, depending on your usage patterns. On the other hand, trying to extrapolate that out to ten hours of usage is kind of silly: batteries drain at different rates over different charge periods (particularly the first 10% and the last 20%), and it's unlikely your usage is going to stay constant the whole way through.
Yea ur right. I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing awsome battery life

Phone gets hot

Have you guys noticed that this phone gets hot fairly quickly during use? Also seems to suck the battery down pretty fast, too. By product of faster processor compare to the Note 2?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Haven't had any issues. Everything is comparable or better than note 2 with the same usage patterns so far. Going to try some games (like Nova 3) and asphalt to see how it does.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Mine certainly gets pretty warm with regular use. Battery also is not what I was hoping for. I am new to android and the note phones though so am trying to mess around with changing settings and such.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 4
I have a thin case on mine. I notice no heat whatsoever. Also, I've never had better battery life. I use the hell out of it, too. My Note 1 and my Captivate were power hogs, though. That's all I have to compare it to.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Personally, i love the battery life on this phone. Thats coming from an S4. I used to have to put my S4 on the charger before the end of the day because it was in the yellow. Thats from around 740 in the morning til around 6 in the evening. Now, on the same usage, with the Note 3, by around 9 at night the battery is still sitting around 50%.
Wow, any special settings you are using? I am already charging my device today as I was bellow 50% with only a little over 2 hours of screen useage.

There has to be an app running amok, or you are in a bad signal area, or you have every possible setting on to be charging that often unless you have a bad battery. I usually get about 4 hours screen time over 24 hours and usually have 45 to 50% left. Just did 24 hours with 4 hours screen, 2 hours music listening while mowing my yard and downloaded 2.5 GB of data over LTE and had 39% left.

I have a lot of the extra settings turned off. I have power saver on for screen management. Wifi scanning for apps is off. Bluetooth on only when I need. Screen brightness set to auto. Phone is running stock ROM, no rooting. It often feels warm around the camera area. I have been consistently running out of juice by about 12 to 13 hours of use. I don't know....

Pretty much the same settings as mine. I leave GPS on always. Do not use the power saving management features.
Try going into developer options and limiting the number of background activities to 3 or 4 and see if this helps any.

Update. Got mine to 103 F using Skype whilst whilst video talking.
Talking of which the Skype app is ****e compared to IOS version . I couldn't even disable external speaker no option, also when I put the phone to my ear the external speaker is still engaged as is the front facing camera POOH!
No issue here either.....phone is alot faster...battery life is insane....i have never had battery like this with my note 2....i can run for days without charging....great device...highly recommended........you might have a bad unit....you figure they push these out so fast...your bound to get a few duds...i would return for new one.....just my 2 cents.....
I've had no issues with mine but my girlfriend has had a weird charging issue once. In the middle of charging it stopped and said that it was over heating. Thought that was pretty odd seeing as how she wasn't using it at all.

I was able to get mine to heat up significantly by running benchmarks 5 times in a row and then running asphalt 7. Not normal usage so I am not to worried about it.

unbearably HOT
Today I was listening to mp3 music off the memory card and noticed the phone got unbearably HOT and battery drain was around 50% in less than 2 hours.
This is normal usage and it should never get warm for playing mp3 music.
I am curious to know how many have a heating issue.
Looks like mine is going to be replaced.
No heat what so ever.... Battery life amazing and that is with pretty much everything on!

There is most likely something running in the background causing this. I listen to mp3s for several hours nonstop off my SD card without any heating issues. Try killing all apps and clearing memory with the task manager then run the music app and see if the heating issue persists.

Well, for the last few days I was not happy with battery life and was getting a lot of warmth on the back as well around the camera. Last night I shutdown the phone totally and rebooted. Had a few updates pop up for some Samsung apps when the phone booted up. Today, battery has been quite stellar. No real warmth either. I am at 70% charge at end of the day with 11 hours on battery and 2 hours screen time. Interested to see if this continues tomorrow. I would recommend shutting down the phone and reboot to see how it goes.

Sharp battery drops. Problem with device, rom or battery?

I regularly have scenarios like this.
- phone is at 27% battery
- few minutes later it beeps and shows 14%
- 30 seconds later - 5%
- few more seconds and it shuts down.
I don't run anything special and through the day it lowers steady (although 100 to 27 in 12 hours is not that great).
I run official 5.0.1 rom and never unlocked bootloader.
So is it a problem with a phone, the battery or just OS that sucks?
Anyone else having the issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Most likely it's the battery. Have you looked to see what is using the battery in settings?

Nothing unusual running. I think Android OS was main battery user, may be with hour and half of screen time.
In this specific instance I was running Toyota app while driving.
But similar things happened before without those factors. And mostly it worked ok in the car as well.

Sorry I forgot that was in your OP. Did you look at the battery to see if it was hot or bulging even slightly? Personally for the $15 it takes to get a new battery, I would. Worst case scenario is you end up with a spare. I don't know how old your device (and this your battery) is, but it's not uncommon after 9+ months for them to start dying.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yes, it probably makes sense to get new battery. I got the phone last November or December but problem started early summer. Seems pretty short time for battery to go bad.
Thank you

It's not unheard of by any stretch. Heat will kill them fast as well. Does the phone ever get hot?
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed it being hotter than other phones I used. Yet I carry it in external pouch so would not always feel it.
It definitely wasn't hot when battery was dropping.
More over, last time I turned it off for 3 hours at 14% and when turned it on, drop just continued and it was 5% in 30 seconds.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I got not only a new battery but a new phone and have been experiencing a similar problem. Seriously might just jump ship to the N5. Any suggestions on what else to try? I really don't want to shell out $20 for yet another battery if it's not guaranteed to fix anything. I'm running PopRocks v14 with the stock kernel. Any suggestions?
I had the exact same issue. It was from letting the battery die too often. A new battery fixed the issue 100%
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
That's true. Running it down to 1% all the time definitely shortens the life. I'll try to find the article I read that interviewed battery scientists.
