What I2S DAC for my raspberry pi 2 ? - Raspberry Pi Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I want to make a hifi system. I discovered recently there is I2S DAC board for the raspberry pi.
First of all, do you think the Raspberry Pi + I2S DAC is a good choice for a HIFI system ? (keep in mind I have a very tight budget)
According to my research it's a very good idea but I'd like to confirm that
Second question : wich I2S DAC do you advise me ? (keep in mind I have a very tight budget)
So far the best I've found is this one : https://www.hifiberry.com/dacplus/
The price is 37€ (shipping included)
The Pi-DAC+ from IQaudIO seemed better but it's 42€ (shipping not included). So should be arround 50€ with shipment. And it's not avaible yet.
Any advice ?
Thanks by advance,
Thomas.

Thoughts on getting started on a Door Project
First I want to apologize..I'm fairly new to all of this but I'm just really tired of getting up all the time seeing whose at my apt door knocking and it turns out to be just sales people.
Project
Thinking of hooking up a Raspberry Pi + Camera Module to my Apt Door Peep hole. So It can take pictures or display it on a TFT Color monitor. It will take a picture on motion detection or not.
Things that would be a cool feature
-When motion is detected a picture will be taken (i was reading that motion doesnt work with the camera module yet but hopefully that has changed.)
-Access it online from anywhere(not really important)
-Access raspberry pi camera on my network so when i can see whose at the door so I don't have to get up for advertisers
Just wondering what to order is my starting point so far i got
Raspberry PI Model B
Raspberry Pi Camera Module
Case
tft color monitor
I'm planning to buy all of these from amazon .com
I'm unsure of what sdcard to buy I saw the compatibility list. But what do you guys recommend for the best compatibility and etc? Looking for good class 10 cards.
Im unsure of which power adapter is good for powering it. Thank you. Im hoping to buy everything off amazon.
Thank you

Definitely sounds like an cool project. As far as good class 10 SD Card's this SanDisk Extreme Class 10 32 GB card is a very good card exact same on that I have only I have a 16 GB card, also it's listed on the confirmed working peripherals page. For a power supply this 5V 1.5A from the Pi Hut sold on Amazon is good power supply which can provide enough power for any USB devices you plug into the Raspberry Pi as well. Additionally this video is worth checking out, as it shows a person who's project was to create a motion detecting surveillance type setup using the Raspberry Pi and the Raspberry Pi camera module.
hmm would a 32gb be overkill should I get a 16gb instead? Whats your opinion? Are you running out of room on your 16gb?
Is that power supply adapter the best one? Or is there another one ? Im trying to see if there's one with that qualifies for prime shipping. I guess i can use my asus neuxs 7 charger first until the one from pi hut arrives
Thank you for your advice so far.

If you can spend the extra money the extra storage is worth it. On my own setup I still have plenty of storage on my 16 GB card. I mainly use it for small experimental developmental work, and small projects, but if your going to use it for media of any kind 32 GB is essential. Regarding the power supply the one the Pi Hut sells I mentioned is very good, a lot of the other power supplies I've seen on Amazon are low quality that won't always provide consistent power output.

I personally haven't heard or dealt with any of those sellers. My advice would be read the reviewes for each seller and the feedback people have provided. Then go with the one with the best feedback. And I always enjoy helping people out, helping out is what makes XDA such a great community.

hmm it seems like the pi hut will take 18-20 days for shipping i was wondering if buying the powersupply fro adafruit any good?
5V 1A (1000mA) USB port power supply - UL Listed - its only 1000mA though compared to the 1500 on from pi hut
my own nexus 7 power adapter is 2.0a is that over the limit?
im thinking of buying the hp touch pad charger as well since it has a really high power rating...or maybe just split my orders order half of my items from amazon and the other from adafruit

The power supply from Adafruit is the one I use on my Raspberry Pi and it serves me well, I recommended the Pi Hut one because you mentioned you wanted to buy everything off Amazon if possible. You should be able to use your Nexus 7 power adapter just fine it will provide you with enough power for the Raspberry Pi plus any accessories such as external hard drive or wireless dongle that require power as well.

The one from Adafruit will work just fine for powering a Wifi dongle it supplies enough power for the current Wifi dongle (An old spare Netgear Wireless dongle I had) that I use on my Raspberry Pi.

Steps
1) hooking everything up
2) figuring out waht to do lol....
3) get the basic camera up and running
4) get motion running

The Nexus charger is better. It doesn't force the extra current in, it just has the ability to provide that current if needed.
It will be more stable with the 2A.

lol no worries. A lot of people didn't know about that. I believe it was recently they started to manufacture it in china.
I think i found something that works for me but im unsure of how to even get started =/

One course of action you could take to making your project is modifying the tweeting letterbox code to remove the Twitter specific functions and instead modifying the code so you received an alert (E-mail, commuter dialog box prompt, phone text message, etc.) when the camera detected someone at the door.

I would start off with the power adapter you bought from adafruit and if you find you need more power for some reason you can purchase a more powerful adapter.

Just to make sure we're on the same page here by first step I assume you mean the first step from the Raspberry Pi Tweeting Letter Box tutorial, correct? The first step is to wire the camera to the breadboard and then to Raspberry Pi GIPIO pins as described in the tutorial. After that I would recommend running the python script he describes to run. Then once you have the script running you can start editing the code and removing the Twitter specific code so it acts as just a camera viewer like your looking for.

anybody familiar with double din experience

I Have a 2004 sierra and I'm looking to get my first double din so I don't know too much about them or have any experience on how they work or there UI.
I was really into the Alpine line but a blogger or whoever on youtube said Alpine is laggy, and said that pioneer has a really good GPS system and is updated the most frequent. But to my understanding I thought pioneer was a lower brand and that Walmart sells pioneer product. I'm not looking to spend $300 and hope for the best and I'm not looking to overpay just for a name. I really don't mind paying 600 since you get what you pay for. Does anybody have any good recommendations on a model that has all the bells and whistles and 3 RCA connections?
GPS (not so important tho)
HDMI or some way to mirror. I could do Google Maps that way
Bluetooth streaming.
DVD player
3 rca outlets for amps
Not laggy
I did see some Android powered double dins but from what I read they were all Chinese brands.

24 bit / 192 khz support

Today I've bought this amazing tablet (8 inch. one) and I have to say that this is just the best tablet I've ever had! But as an audiophile I am I ask myself one question, does this tablet support 24 bit / 192 khz ( or maybe 44 khz) high resolution audio? I've googled but found nothing about this. If not, do you recomend me any dac of external sound card that works with android? Thanks in advance! :good:
Edit 1: sorry 4 my english, I'm spanish
nobody???
S2 audio
Hi, I bought my Verizon Wireless S2 9.7 a couple of days ago.
I have an OPPO HA-2 DAC/headphone amp. I purchased the
USB DAC Audio Pro (or something similar to that name) on
Google Playstore (I wanted to try the free version but somehow
it finagled me into getting the paid one, lol).
I can play all hi-res files, including DSD 2.4 and 5.6
(although those are not handled natively by USB
Audio as I understand it) and it sounds good to
me (then again, I'm 64 and my high-end hearing
at least is shot, so what do I know, lol!).
P.S.--only real problem you can't listen and charge at same
time.

Newbies head unit buyers guide

I scanned thru several of these forums looking at the stickies in particular plus a few searches. However, I didn't find anything that would guide the selection of my 1st Android head unit. In particular, I am looking for the pros and cons of each type (Intel vs PX3 vs PX5, etc), as well as preferred manufacturers. I can fit a universal 2DIN in the dash with slight alterations. I would like to mod the unit so significant community involvement in customization is very important to me vs. having the latest and greatest thing out there. I want to hook up the unit to my Canbus so I can capture the steering wheel signals in my 2012 Ram 1500. I think that my truck has an external amp, but that it uses speaker-level signals vs. line level to drive. I have a factory externally amplified sub in the back. What other features are discriminators when trying to select the best unit? Thanks in advance!
Paul
I've had a bad experience with android (bought from Erisin) my unit died after only 6 months use (PX3 board) I then bought a PX5 board which only lasted a few weeks - when working the PX3 was ok - PX5 was faster - the unit I got seems impossible to get into recovery thus far. Erisin won't provide any support as they know it's too late for me to complain to Ebay or Paypal. I liked the android but I would look for a unit that has good support and is easy to get into recovery should things go wrong. I also have another car which has Windows system (Xtrons) but with built in DAB which apart from minor glitches has been good but is a little restricted with some software I would like to use.

mobile DACs any benefits?

I won't dispute mobile DACs benefits such as Chord Mojo or Fiio. Just wanted feedback from those who have set up the N9 with a DAC...
Thanks in advance
Note 9 already equipped with very decent DAC to drive entry level ~ mid end drivers with impressive detail. Unless you are trying to drive DSD128 or DSD512 with 80K headset. Then you will need another AMP + DAC.
Have not tried my DAC/AMP yet. C5A or something. My V20 has been my DAP and I have been using my AKGN60s. Pretty sure the Cirrus logic or Wolfson in Exynos version is better than the snapdragon Aqstic. The snapdragon DAC is just middle of the road.
I am using mine withe sony PHA-3/Hidizs HD100 with HD app and HD headphone/earphone and ripped music in lossless format. They blew the phone 3.5mm jack away and you would never go back to 3.5mm phone jack.
