Phone folded over --please direct to appropriate place - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Howdy, I have a 100% dead Galaxy s6 that was folded in half.
I also work in an electronics shop.
I need to
1. find the flash chip that houses saved data (pictures etc)
2. Try to graft it onto a new phone.
I realize this is likely futile, but if anyone has ANY help they can offer I would really appreciate it.

Have you tried YouTube for a tear down video?

I have found pictures of the individual chip that I should exchange, at ifixit's Galaxy S6 teardown (can't link because I'm a new user) I'm really uncertain about how exactly to do it.
The phone's motherboard has snapped in half, so I can't just replace that or plug it in and get the data.
Thank you

How to open a Kaiser

Hello all...
Does anyone know how to open a Kaiser? I've got all the tools but I just can't find how to open it to replace the LCD screen.
Thanks.

After many hours I got to open the Kaiser without causing any damage.
Tips:
- To remove the screen you just need to remove the 4 screws from behind the moving part.
- Be carefull because when you remove the cover there's a silver tiny screw connected to the speaker that you need to remover or you'll cause damage to the speaker and videoconferencing camera.
- I just used: T6, T4 and Phillips screwdrivers.
I'm posting some pictures.
Hope this helps to someone else...

currently trying right now (so i can see which connector i have) 4 screws are out but nothing seems to have losened up for removal
After removing the 4 screws you'll need a very thin tool to insert it between the screen cover and the screen casing. You have to be very carefull not to damage the cover, and make sure not to pull the cover too hard because you'll need to remove the speaker board screw first.
To remove the cover with the thin tool I started at the top and bottom of the device and then slided it over the whole device until the cover got loose.
Hope this helps...

Mario
Thanks for your help, looking to acquire a plastic tool for that...dont' want to use anything metalic and increase the risk of damaging anything more
I can't tell from the detail of the pictures, but how "integrated" is the front camera? Is it something I can possibly just "snap in" on my Tilt, or does a whole section have to be modified? I don't mind the idea of dremeling in a hole on the front panel.
Anyone know how I can quickly obtain the front camera and required connections/circuitry to apply it to my Tilt?
Hey Mario, Does this mean you didn't send in you Kaiser to HTC? I assume u went thru NJbridges. If so, are you up and running now? (determining what I should do)
I would also like to know how plausible it would be to add a front camera to the tilt.
What kind of connection is it?
Where can we get the part?
Hello all,
When removing the front cover you have to be carefull because the borad that holds the camera and the speaker is scrwed to the cover and if you pull it too hard you'll break the cables.
I went thru njbridges and I'm waiting for the replacement LCD, it's supposed to be here on Monday or Tuesday. I'll let you know the results. IMPORTANT: There are two LCD models differentiated by the color of the cable and connector, make sure you check that before ordering.
I didn't send my device to HTC because I live in Mexico and I needed a US address, plus they said the replacement could cost between $170 and $370 and I think they don't have the replacement LCD's in stock yet.
If you have a Tilt I don't think you'll be able to add a front camera to it.
Hope this helps!
Best Regards,
Mario.
Thanks Mario, still haven't fount a proper tool to open it as of yet. But please keep me posted on if you got you TyTn II working with the new screen, I have the same feeling about HTC US and the screen. got two different answers on two different calls.

So there is two LCD models? That explains why my replacement Tilt (which I sent back because I did not like, waiting for another) had a screen with a weired greenish tint to it.
Dude where did you get your LCD screen replacement? What's NJBRIDGES? Googled it but couldn't find a link. I need one badly!
Is this a universal LCD screen? Can I use older LCD screens from Blue Angel? Hermes? Etc?

search njbridges in the forum its a member here that sells them. Send him a PM.
no its not universal so don't bother trying to connect an older LCD to it.

Hey is it not just cheeper to sell it on ebay and get a kaiser? But i didnt message u to make fun of u lol i was really interested in knowing why you would need a front camera on a tilt? I am assuiming you are using it with ATT (I have a MDA VARIO III which has the front camera and plan to use it with ATT) and I thought they dont support Video Telephony...or do they now?
Hey Mario,
Just checking if you had any progress with this yet.
Hello,
I just came back from my trip and the UPS package with the new LCD was waiting for me...
I replaced the LCD in about 30 minutes and so far I've been using my Kaiser for about 3 hours without any problems.
I got my LCD screen from njbridges.
Happy again!!!!

[Guide]Taking apart the Streak 7 (wip)

Introduction:
It's been over a year since the Streak 7 has been released, long enough that Dell has stopped selling it on their website, yet noone has released a legimitate disassembly guide yet.
Around launch time there was a video made showing the device being taken apart, what makes the video completely worthless is the fact they skipped all the most important steps of actually disassembling it and fast forwards though it till when it's nearly fully taken apart.
This guide will detail out all the steps to take it apart while attempting to minimize damage to it for reassembly.
Overall difficulty: 6/10
Without a guide: 11/10
Tools required:
Hair dryer [strongly recommended]
Very small torx screwdriver
Very fine plastic shim or xacto knife
Step 1: Removing the side bumpers
The two side bumpers cover the majority of the screws. The bumpers themselves are held on by a strip of adhesive tape and are also very brittle. The most obvious method to remove them is to heat each of the bumpers with a hair dryer to weaken the adhesive on them. After heating it multiple times it should hopefully weaken enough so that a thin plastic shim or xacto knife can be forced in from the edges.
Depending on the importance of minimizing cosmetic damage, this can be the longest step.
Summerized steps:
Heat bumpers until adhesive is weakened
Shove thing instrument underneath bumpers from outside edge
Pry off bumpers lengthwise to avoid snapping them
Caution:
The area near the capacitive buttons has an exposed ribbon cable, care must be used around that as the cable can be easily sliced.
The shiny plastic bumpers are VERY brittle and can easily snap if flexed any amount. It may take many re-heatings to remove them without damage
Excessive heat applied to the screen may damage the underlying LCD, it is recommended to slowly heat the bumpers in multiple runs to reduce the chance of damage.
Step 2: Removing the screws
List of screws:
2 visible screws under left bumper
3 visible screws under right bumper
1 screw hidden underneath capacitive sensing pad
2 screws hidden underneath white pads inside side flap
The screws underneath the flap might not be possible to remove without cosmetic damage. As they are underneath the flap this may be an acceptable trade-off.
Step 3: Seperating display from body
The display try is attached to the base by plastic clips on the tray, there are 3 clips on the left side that must be detached and then the display should be able to slide slightly leftwards(?) and then opened downwards.
Caution: When detaching the display be aware of the following cables:
One above the dock connector connecting the display itself
One towards the bottom left connecting the touch sensor
One just right of the buttons connecting their sensors
Step 4: Detach display cables
The cables are standard thin ribbon cables, the main display one has a latch while the two touch ones do not(?)
Step 5: Finish detaching the display from the base
The guide will end here and not go though removing the motherboard or other components from the base tray. They are all simply held on by multiple screws.
Step 6: Reassembly
Repeat steps 1-5 in reverse order.
Food for thought:
The differences between the Wifi and 3/4g models are:
Lack of modem
Lack of PCI-E slot for modem
Lack of sim card assembly
Lack of cell modem antenna assembly
It may be possible to solder on a new PCI-E and sim card assembly to turn a Wifi into a 3/4g model. The PCI-E slot is a standardized one while the sim card bay might be custom fitted to the S7. Swapping out the modems from the EU and US submodels is as simple as removing and replacing.
Acknowledgments:
Graffixnyc for donating a device to hack at with a screwdriver disassemble
FCC.gov for stock photos of the disassembeled pieces
Dell for making the Streak 7 held together ultimately by glue.
No thanks to the other teardown video for SKIPPING half of the most important steps
Shameless self-advertising:
The guide is still somewhat incomplete as when I recieved the donor S7 it was already badly damaged, also as I was working more or less blind it took even more damage in the disassembly. If I had a 2nd one to disassemble I might be able to do it with minimum damage.
-Reserved-
WOW!! Great job getting the Streak 7 apart. I would love to see the guts of the S7 in person.
Now we just need to get you a S7 that is in read-only mode so that you can try to open it up and figure out how to reset it. I am pretty sure that the Streak 7 I sent to Dell for a reset was the same one they sent back... but I do not see any physical signs of it being opened. I still have a hunch that they had to open it because they could not fix the problem over the phone. They had to re-flash it... I am not sure if the flash was required, but it makes me wonder if they had to replace the entire motherboard or internal storage drive.
Do you see the internal storage drive? Is it soldered on, or could it easily be replaced? Also, do you see a cmos type battery that could be removed and reinserted... or a jumper to reset the bios? I am not sure if tablet motherboards are anything like desktop motherboards.
Thanks theManii
I appreciate this, I have seen the video in question - and yeah, the most important sequences for disassembly were not included.
I do have a question in relation to #1. after warming the end trim pieces were you able to use your "shim" around the majority of the perimeter, or did you just come in from the inside by the screen to work these trim pieces loose?
I look forward to the pictures, it will make me a lot more comfortable in taking on the disassembly challenge, thanks again.

I went from the outside as I had a xacto knife and was afraid of scratching the screen, I was pretty agressive with it since it was already scratched up. If you dont go very slowly you might end up discoluring the black plastic (though it's black on black and not hugely noticible)
I used the FCC internal photos to work off of when I did it:

wifi internals

Thanks for the information, I will be attempting some surgery of the DS7 in the near future.
when I tried to open the links, they come up as:
You are not authorized to access this page.
not a big deal, I am mechanically inclined so I can figure out most things without too much destruction
Hmm, that's odd, perhaps they dont like direct links to it

it's the links labeled 'internal photo' on their respective pages
Rewrote the guide, it's nearly complete except the lack of pictures highlighting the various things. Placeholders have already been placed summerizing what they will be of

These links did work.
Actually both the internal and external photo PDFs have some useful information, and it appears that the more detailed information is in the link for the 3G/4G model.
Thanks again The Manii, appreciate all the helpful information, ROMs, etc.

The FCC links work now! Thank you so much for fixing them. Those internal photos are very nice... still I would love to see one in person. I just love taking things apart to see whats inside... but I normally wait until they are dead or defective.
Looks like they use SanDisk for the internal storage... and it is indeed soldered to the board. So, I am not sure what they are doing when they "fix" Streak 7s stuck in read-only mode. Maybe they have to manually short out or complete a connection on the motherboard while re-flashing the internal storage?? Or... with the right equipment, could they actually remove the old flash drive and solder on a new one?
By the way, I like the redesigned layout for your guide. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to describe this process. I greatly appreciate it.
Did you happen to take a close look at the camera to see a S/N or make/model?
I havnt looked at any of the part numbers, I'll make a list when I make the photos to finish the guide
Unfortunately looking at the internal photos again, it looks like virtually all the major chips are underneath the two RF shields or have their own RF shield.
Pretty much the only visible chips are the touchscreen controller, possibly the sim card interface chip and one of the lcd driver chips.
I'm not willing to cut/remove the RF shields as they seem pretty secure, so I'm not gonna be able to pull part numbers off them.
What I'm left with now is a device with:
Demolished dock connector
Cut Capacitive button cable
Missing Flap
Extensive cosmetic damage
Only the cut cable was during the dissassembly though, rest was as-is.
I'm gonna take the final disassembly photos tomorrow then put the whole thing in storage.
hmmm...
I wonder if you would be interested in selling that poor streak for parts
I just bought a unit with a cracked digitizer...
finally added images to guide, I will have to go back some time later and double check it's accuracy.
It's been long enough I dont really remember the screw locations underneath the bumpers.

Is the glass and screen one piece or will the gorilla glass come apart? I cracked the glass today and the screen itself isn't damaged at all. The unit works perfectly but has cracks on the glass.
Have you heard about sources for parts?
thanks in advance,

The glass and lcd arnt bonded, there's an air gap.
I dont know about getting replacement parts, beyond the scope of the guide.
can you see a maker/model of the lcd? also the battery.

Help changing the top speaker grill on HTC One!

Hi, I damaged my phone on the top so I am trying to replace the top speaker grill cover, I already have the replacement but I have no idea how to do it without messing my phone. I have investigated a lot and in the only teardown video I fount the top spekar grill seems to always be attached to the phone, and the ifixit guid has no information on this part of the phone. Please if anyone has done it or knows how to do this any kind of help would be useful as I can't stand to se my phone damaged no more.
Thanks
Sorry for posting twice this thread but the first time I posted it on Sprint's thread by mistake!!!
I think is better do this replace in warranty or from someone that is able to do this

From what others have said the top grill is screwed in place from the inside so replacement will require a full teardown of the phone.
It's a job for a repair centre I guess which no doubt will cost large amounts of cash.

True that, seems technological advancements cost us more and more as they come about. Not only do we pay more for newer, better devices but the way they are made makes them cheaper to replace than repair ... I remember the day when you bought a TV for example and it would last you 20 years with no problems, now you're lucky to get a year or two out of new 1's. I think it's just a conspiracy to make us shell out more and more for stuff, but I'm very cynical lol
Is it really screwed in? I have the replacement part and it seems like there is no way to screw that thing, and on the etradesupply teardown video it seems like the cover just comes off without unscrewing any thing.
Did you try to heat it up. With a hairdryer? Maybe you can pull with your fingernail and see if it comes loose. Mine is chipped at the bottom. Parts are on its way.

[Q] Screen Cracked [Question(s) on how to fix it]

Hi, I recently got my HTC One (m7 / at&t) as a graduation present in June. Unfortunately I recently dropped it face down without its case onto the ground and resulted in a large crack(s) on the screen. I can still use the device, text, talk, watch videos etc.. but as you can obviously tell one does not simply enjoy the pleasure of having their phone(s) screen cracked.
So I immediately began looking for a solution and repair shops said 300$ to fix when I purchased my phone for just a little over 300$. So that is out of the question, unless its truely my last resort. So I began looking on how to fix it, youtube failed me the only thing that was helpful were the breakdown videos of the HTC One teaching me how to take apart the phone (The only part I was interested in was on taking out the glass).
The only solution I currently can think of would to repair it myself. So here are my questions.
1) The screen is cracked only, the touch screen works fine etc.. so can someone show me the listing on ebay/amazing (I prefer amazon) of the kit or things I would need to fix it.
I Saw this one:
amazon /HTC-M7-screen-digitizer-replacement/dp/B00CWKGZ5U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376517625&sr=8-5&keywords=HTC+One+Glass
Because it looks like exactly what I Need, BUT I'm no expert so would that fix my problem? Or is it the wrong thing since all I need is the glass and thats the "Digitizer Outter Glass" or something? I dont know my terms that well but to me it seems like what I need because its the "Outter Glass" haha.
But I'm confused about that because it says Digitizer outter glass and in the picture has the connection cord thing, Would this be replacing every part having to deal with the screen? (i.e I take a suction cup and take out the screen, and unplug the connection from the phone to the screen, would what I having in my phone (cracked screen with cord..) be the same thing as what Ill be ordering from that amazon thing but NOT cracked?)
-----------
2) How would I replace it step by step? I already seen videos of taking the phone apart and replacing iPhone screens but I havent seen any towards the HTC One in regards to replacing the screen. So would someone mind pointing me in the right direction, or giving me a text tutorial on what to do? I can pretty much figure it out by reading it since I have videos n pictures to compare it to sorta.
-----------
3) I never done a repair before but it doesnt seem that hard, just have to be gentle and know what youre doing (Thus why im asking so many questions), is this my best option? Or what should I do...
-----------
4) When I seen videos regarding the iPhone screen replacement it was showing things like Screen Seal / and him literally taking off the glass from the this other thing and replacing just the glass itself instead of the thing below it.
Would I have to also use a type of screen seal / or have to take glass off like you would do in the iPhone or is it a 100% different conecpt / idea?
----------
Remember: I basically need to know what I need to fix the cracked screen of my phone, I think this is what i need:
amazon /HTC-M7-screen-digitizer-replacement/dp/B00CWKGZ5U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376517625&sr=8-5&keywords=HTC+One+Glass
So if it is, then may someone tell me how to replace my phones cracked screen using that and explain it to me what im actually doing and watch each part is etc.. (like what im buying and whats cracked with my phone, so I know its what I need)
and if not, can someone tell me what I need and how to do it?
PS I understand I cant post outside links, but its amazon and Im not trying to advertise i just need the link as a comparison / example
This is one of the worst phones created when it comes to repair. It is well made, but ease of repair was not their priority. The only thing I can recommend to you would be to go to the Ifixit web site. They do a tear down of the phone to show how hard it is to repair. Maybe that will help you out.
Edit: In your original post, you wrote that you had watched videos on the Iphone. Since this is a different phone with differences in assembly, I suggested a video concerning this specific phone. Not trying to be rude, but if I was taking apart my HTC, I would view specific videos concerning my phone. I thought that the specific video might give you clues as to the parts involved in assembly and what procedures were necessary. The video I was referring to concerned their taking apart an HTC One. Every bit of information might be helpful to you trying to fix your problem.

Not being rude but I'm pretty sure I already stated the fact that I seen the videos and tutorials regarding the tear down of the phone. So how do you expect that to "maybe" help me out? If I'm trying ti find out the part(s) I need to replace since I don't know the full termology.
I know how to take my phone apart (For the most part), I Just need to know mainly what I need to replace to fix my cracked screen, or whats my best solution. + The questions i stated in the thread.
Thank you.
Unfortunately you will have to change the whole screen assembly.
This will cost you a little ... http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc...itizer-assembly-with-front-housing-white.html
You could try also just the LCD+ digitizer (if the front aluminum parts are still intact: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly.html
If you scratched the back of the phone, those guys have the back assembly also ... about 24 USD ... ( http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html )
You could TRY replacing only the digitizer ( http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-digitizer-touch-screen.html ) but I would not go there. In between the digitizer (what is actually cracked in your case) and the lcd there is a special "jelly" glue which is VERY hard to remove w/o breaking the LCD. I tried that on a N7 and now I'm waiting for a new LCD to be delivered ...
Good luck!
Thank you, I appreciate the reply.
My casing / housing isnt broken (The cracks start from the top of the screen right below the camera/speakers where the glass is, and the crack(s) end towards the HTC Logo etc..) so should I still buy the white housing with lcd+digitizer or should I just go with the second option and buy the digitizer+lcd without the housing (second link you gave me)

Hi,
I posted a lengthy thread on how to do a repair here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387992
Did it well over a month ago and it is still running fine.
You might want to call you household insurance, and tell them someone in your household (not you) dropped the phone while cleaning for example.
Here in the Netherlands, they will pay the repair even the same day.
I didn't had to send them anything, just tell them on the phone how much the reparations would cost, and they transfered the complete numeber right away!
Too bad I found that out after spending more than $100,- on phone reparations.
It might be worth the shot, since they may reimburse it for you.

[Q] Z1 Broke small part during disassembly can't find replacement

Hello,
I recently disassembled my z1 and during the disassembly broke a very small flex cable. I have no idea how it happened but nothing else appears damaged before I go and buy the new screen, metal flaps and middle frame I wanted to make sure I could get this part. In most disassembly videos I watched they never take this part off however everyone I've found so far that sells the plastic part it is attached to doesn't also sell the two small components connected to it. Ive attached an image of the part and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get it or where I can buy that piece of frame with it already attached.
Thanks Logan
