Well as the Title said, just wanted to see how many of you guys still have your T and V's using live. I have bought the V on 2013 November and still using it now, although the batterylife and performance had become totally awful. Thinking about jumping to the new Nexus 5 2015 this November, and ending my XV's 2 year life.
How about you guys?
I'm still using my Xperia T with WhiteNeo's CM 12.1 ROM and it's running smoothly, it even handles multitasking pretty well! I just replaced the battery earlier this year, so battery life is okay I guess. I, too, am thinking about replacing my phone with something bigger and more bad*ss! Welp, if Neo moves on to another phone and starts developing for it, I'll probably buy that one too, hehe!
Same with me, I'm using my T since 2013 as my daily driver. To be honest when it was on stock 4.3 I was thinking about buying a new phone because 4.3 has a bad RAM management and phone started to be some laggy and to act low in performance. Now I'm using CM 12.1 by WhiteNeo and T has got a new life, performs great so I'm changed my mind about switching to new phone for now.

Over here too! . I have my Xperia T since march 2013.. and it's great with CM 12.1 Neo Rom. An advice, is leave facebook and messenger apps, then use the browser. These apps make the performance be worst.
The only reason that I'm thinking to change to One Plus 2, is for a bigger battery and screen, but i'm not sure...
good bye, Xperia
I switched yesterday to Xiaomi Mi4. My Xperia V wasn't very old (about a year and a half), but it began to fail and got restarted or turned off.
I changed SIM, ROM (CM 10.2), charger and battery, but the phone keeps failing. Still want to "tune" it to, at least, play a few games/videos.
Yup, using my two-years-old XV as a daily driver, too. And apart of the low amount of ram and the rather small battery size, there's no real reason to buy a new phone for now. Probably a replacement battery will make this phone last another year. It all depends on whether I get Android M to work just as fine as lollipop does.
By the way, thanks for your kind words guys. People's support means a lot to me.
I am planning to use my Xperia T as first phone for a longer time to come. Defin >1 year - hopefully longer. I have upgraded from a Galaxy i9000 in January 2015 to a used Xperia T. I am still more than satisfied with it's perfomance for everything I do... And thanks to you neo I really enjoy this phone....
I'll probably go for Nexus 5 2015 too. Or I'll buy a laptop for myself.
But mostly Nexus 5 2015 ( or something with snapdragon 820)
I still have my tx is hard to upgrade my phone here in venezuela thei´re too expensive, not to much development for mine but still have it as daily driver
I started using XV on 2013 July, and I changed the battery last December! I'm still with 4.3 stock! Ram management is really bad. My concern for moving to NEO is the camera, is it as good as the stock one ?

Camera is pretty good, I'm using CameraMX app and it has a lot of settings, a lot of scenes modes and it almost looks like Sony stock app.

This picture was made using my latest CM12.1 build.
Quality is great imho.
I am using my XV not as a daily driver but for travelling as my 3. Sim card holder, so to speak, and as a navigation tool. Surprisingly my original battery seems is as good as new.
I bought an Asus Zenfone 5. It performs well, the only issue is battery. But then, actually it is not much different from the XV and similar to many other phones in the market. I will keep this device until it degrades. Sure I will sure not play the upgrade game anymore, Pentium 166 -> Pentium 200 - Pentium 233 -> 266, and so on, US style marketing with no benefit for anyone. When the ZF5 gives up I'll look at the Indian or China market for another 2 Sim card phone with at least 2 mB RAM. And 5000 mAh battery, don't care how it looks or whatever.
I am still using Xperia V as my daily use phone since May 2013. I was using custom rom (Revelation HD) until it was stopped working. Then I tried a few other roms and not satisfied. Currently I am using stock rom, but i have installed 360 安全衛士 , a china apps to remove all the useless pre-installed apps to free up space and migrate most of my apps into SD-card. It is still functioning well despite poor batteries performance. However, this can be solved by using external batteries (power bank). The only issue i have now is the charging cover had broken and it is not waterproof anymore.
Have been using XV since 2013. I'm mostly satisfied with the stock camera's pic quality, but not with the limited device memory and internal storage.
Recently flashed to WhiteNeo's latest build. Glad to be finally using Lollipop. So far so good - although a bit laggy. Don't know why. Searching hard in xda to get suitable ports for the camera app (as I wanted some of the stock camera features like sweep panorama, more preview options, etc) and get help on repartitioning XV.
I am using about 1.5 year. still now the phone is working like a charm recently swap the internal app storage and resize the app storage so now with CM 12.1 (neo ) is working awesome. and Thanks to Neo for always support xperia T
I got my xperia t as a secondary phone, but it's totally capable of doing everyday tasks. The only drawback is its terrible battery life. If I was to use it as a daily driver it'd need charging every single day. I'm using it for experiments and testing stuff I find here on xda though, and as a second phone. A thing that I absolutely love though is its camera. It's the best I've used on a phone, along with the z's one.
cm mod
Im still using my two year old xperia t as my daily phone, this means i always have powerbank with me but i make it work. I was thinking of upgrading to a oneplus x but im going to try cm first (my first phone mod, wish me luck!) apparently whiteneo 12,1 is the way to go?
I also use my Xperia T for 2 year now and I intend to continue using it for at least another one, thank White Neo for that. The phone works like a charm with a mild overclocking and the rom is great too.
still using T as my main phone after almost 3 years.
It works, has nice camera and its running smoothly with custom ROM.
Only downside is I don't have Android 5, but I can live with that (all the custom ROMs gave me constant SODs while wifi is on).

Hi everyone,
For months I am eagerly waiting for the Xperia V to be released in France (it will be this week, with JB on board). But this morning I found a review from a quite serious blog (in French) and it sort of discouraged me :
- They had major 3G connectivity issues, which is a huge turn-off for me
- They say the screen is not that great after all (too yellow-ish, despite BRAVIAEngine 2)
- They found lots of non-uninstallable bloatware (Adobe Reader, McAfee, some games, etc.)
- They found lots of bugs (camera focus, SOD when using GPS and music player), despite the JB ROM !
Now I'm wavering :
- Is this Xperia V a good choice ? From what I can read on XDA forums, owners of this V seem happy with their choice, but for example, has someone experienced any 3G connectivity issues since the JB upgrade ? Are the other bugs really annoying ?
- I was planning to wait a few months before getting rid of Sony software and get CyanogenMod on this Xperia V ; now that I see the bugs I want to get CM as soon as possible, but is it safe to avoid the warranty of a smartphone right after spending €500 for it ?
- In a nutshell : is the Xperia V a good choice ? (I want a phone that runs JB smoothly on a minimum-300dpi screen, with a micro-SD slot, a removable battery, LTE-compliant, and that I can handle with one of my small hands )
Thanks to anyone who can help me decide whether to buy it or not...

The points you list at the end overlap quite a bit with my criteria for picking the V, and I don't regret it at all. I was hoping Sony would push this model more than they have and that it would get strong sales so that "smaller" phones might not end up in a low-spec ghetto. Anyway, to address your points:
- The 3G connectivity issues may very well have to do with the network settings being set by default to connect to LTE. I had major issues until I changed the settings (my contract doesn't include LTE). Since then, no problems. If the review unit had this setting on, that's probably what happened.
- The display quality seems ok to me. This isn't honestly that huge a thing for me, so maybe somebody else has a stronger opinion on it than I do.
- There's no such thing as "uninstallable" . There is a (somewhat complicated) method for rooting the V without unlocking the bootloader, so as not to void your warranty. I didn't have any of the bloatware that you listed on mine, so it must be carrier-added bloat. I'm new to Xperia and I unlocked mine after about a week, so I may be wrong about this, but I think you can flash .ftf's with a locked bootloader, and just use a generic version of the firmware and voilà - no more bloat!
- I've never had a SOD. The only bug I've dealt with since upgrading to JB is long pauses between tracks when using the Walkman app. Admittedly a pretty big deal for me, I can only hope that since "Walkman" is pretty much synonymous with "Sony", they'll get this one sorted sooner rather than later.
Satisfied with everything except for the battery consumption while on data. Came from Galaxy Nexus. I leave data on for the whole day with my Nexus and it lasts. With this Xperia V, i turn off the data and switch to GSM when not in use.

Carriers are well-known to add in lots of bloatwares. Nothing to do with the phone. But currently there's no working version of CM10.1 (JB 4.2.x), though.
The FreeXperiaProject are on it, albeit not high in their priority list.
Those who tested the current testing version of CM10.1 reported that the ROM is too damn smooth. xD
So for us to have a working version of CM10.1, it will take some time...
Disclaimer: I don't personally own a V, but a T instead.
- Among all the phones I have used, I personally haven't ran into any phone with connectivity issue. Most of the times, it's due to either telco bad signals or half-baked ported roms (i.e. CM10.1), which is probably the less of your concern. However, I heard that V was equipped with 4G (whereas T was not), so you might want to explore this more.
- V screen is far superior compared to T (and maybe Z as well), according to comparison videos and videos I have seen so far. I'd love to have the V display screen.
- From what I saw, V and T shared the same bloatwares. Most of the bloatwares on T are Sony media connection utilities, which are not that annoying. EA Games, OfficeSuite and other stuff I don't really use can be deleted. Coming from a Nexus, I'm surprised that bloatwares did not annoy me at all.
- T suffers from a Walkman bug, that's all. I'm not sure about V.
Yes, you should buy it. It's the only phone with 720p resolution and ergonomic screen size, yet maintain a decent performance, and better yet, an SDCard slot.

Personally I love my Xperia V, there is no phone I would have rather bought. Well maybe Z. It just feels awesome in my hands, looks awesome, is really snappy, the camera is a beast in my opinion and the waterproofig is a plus too.
There are some disadvantages of course, the main one being the lack of developers. I know, I shouldn't "whine" about it, they do it for free and because they want to and I should start deving my self if I'm not satisfied. But I won't. Coming from HTC Desire I was a bit disappointed (shouldn't use that word) to see the lack of roms and mods etc. The battery is a bit too small too, I thought that smartphones would last longer nowadays, but nah, it's a minor upgrade to HTC Desire for example.
Another problem is that my phone seemed a bit bugged right out of the box, orientation sensor would sometimes get stuck and not rotate the screen. I took it to Sony care, let's see what they can do about it. Probably nothing, since the it happens very randomly.

I loved my old HTC Desire. What a great phone it was.
I'm hoping to buy an Xperia V this weekend, too. I'm worried about battery life; has anyone bought an extended one?
I'm using an Xperia V, and I have rooted, added cwm, debloat the wares, still locked bootloader.
I heard that V have two kinds of screen too. And my screen's black color is truly black, not gray like T .
I've tested a film on my phone and my laptop, I just have to say that BE2 is great, it enhances the colors on the film, which is very nice, I've made a comparison with my friend's Xperia T, the BE2 sometimes enhances the colors too much which makes it a little bit unreal, but to tell the truth, most of the time, it makes u feel that the image is greater than the original xD
I'm from Vietnam, we only have 3G. But the connection speed is great, it doesn't take me long to download apps from Play Store . I think it may depends on your signal and the network provider speed . Cuz it depends in my country, if you have full signal, you will got speed around 6-7.2 mbps, but I usually got around 3-5mbps .
About Sony apps, Walkman has some bugs with playing, soon it will be fixed. SoD appears suddenly, I don't know if it just with GPS ). But this is a serious problem, it will be fixed soon either. And about the camera, I myself love the main camera with it's great speed of shoot, but the front camera sucks :|, I love the front camera of Xperia S more
One little thing I want to say that I love the water proof of this phone ). My friends' iPhone can't do that, and that's the way I troll them with my Xperia
Thank you all for your feedbacks, just bought my Xperia V this morning for €429 (great deal on Sony France e-shop, due to the loooong wait) !
I'll receive it next week, will root it as soon as possible to get rid of bloatware, change the networking settings since my contract isn't 4G, and wait for CM 10.1
I'm eagerly waiting for Xperia SP, or should I buy this Xperia V?
Plus of Xperia V : water/dust resistant, 13 MP camera
Plus of Xperia SP : bigger screen and battery capacity, higher CPU and GPU
Any suggestions?

Buy the SP. The V's flaps will soon fall out. Mine is already sticking out. If you want a waterproof one get the Z as they use a different and stronger material for their flaps. However if you're on a budget get the SP. It's high CPU ans GPU makes up for not having waterproof.

There are two things I hate about the Xperia V: 1) Disappointing battery performance on data connection (WiFi is significantly better), 2) Lack of development.

The LED strip and GPU is good. I mean it has an old processor but it's 1.7Ghz Dual Core. It's fine for me. It's also faster than the V. I have the V and overtime you'll lose water resistance as the flaps will fall off. Mine is already sticking out.

How long did it take for the flaps to fall out ? I have mine for 3 weeks now and despite the fact that they feel a bit fragile, I think if I take care of them they will hold on...
I am really fond of my V, it feels great in the hand, it is quite smooth, the battery life is acceptable, the camera is pretty good, and I dropped a pint of beer on it without any damage !

As we the tittle suggests I am thinking on switching from my old lg ox2 to this beast ^^. I've never had a Sony xperia phone before but my mom had xperia arc and seems a pretty solid phone.
What I would expect from this phone:
- Good camera/video quality (I dislike OX2 camera quality).
- Sony software updates faster than LG (This should be easy to achieve, Lg is really slow).
- Good XDA development, OX2 had lots of software problems but great developers to fix them.
- No lags, OX2 had ram issues.
- Better battery life than OX2. Atm my OX2 last around 1day or so with 1.5 hour screen on.
What do you think guys, should I get this phone, is there anything that would make me dislike it?
thank you for your time.

don't really know about this one.

I guess the Z's development sub-forum speaks for itself. Loving the developers work.

No lags spotted in my 3 days of owning the device, everything's snappy.

I'm getting around 1 day too, but the phone is new and the battery didn't got through many cycles and it's also the "honeymoon period yet"

I am a bit concerned about the display, I've read it has a low contrast ratio, but how does it translate in terms of quality?
The contrast level is lower than 02x, but it's nothing to worry about as it's also 1080p which automatically makes it better. One of the things I didn't like about using the 02x for two years is that it got dirty but the XZ is great as I wash it all the time and it looks new all the time.
However I am getting occasional sleep of death on it and I don't know why. Battery does seem to last longer. I don't like the fact it's not gorilla glass however, it's some other Sony glass.
Hopefully the sod are caused by an app... I don't want to go through that again like in the ox2...

1 day with 1.5 screen on is easily achievable, i m on 66% after 2 hours usage, with 1.5 hours screen on, was reading book whole commuting time. and it keeps juice all day, I have about 12% left when I go to sleep.

I guess people expect to use it with the screen on a lot and still last a day, lol. It's obvious if you use it, it isn't going to last long but if in stand by is around 2 days I'll be happy then .;
Have any of you come from the Samsung galaxy S3 what are your thoughts and opinions on the Sony TL phone? I am looking to get something different.
Well, the TL is only an American release for ATT, and it's the only one (of the Xperia T series) that hasn't had its bootloader unlocked. Root is possible though. There's tons of development for the T, but very little for the TL. I came to the Xperia TL from an Xperia X10, and once I had my hands on that first Xperia, I haven't felt the need to switch brands.I feel like from now on, I'm only going to buy Sony android devices.
Custom roms for the TL can be a little tricky. Roms for locked bootloaders work fine but you have to be careful with the baseband. A lot of these custom roms are built from European builds, so they say to flash the original stock rom (ATT) with only allowing the baseband to flash onto the device to try to keep LTE connectivity. ATT's 4G LTE network is very specific for the US and I've had signal issues with custom roms where I lose connectivity (data and voice) briefly at random times.
On a final note, very nice phone in my opinion. The stock JB firmware on the TL is plenty fast for me. I've basically just put the stock JB back on my phone, then rooted it to get rid of ATT bloatware and to allow tethering (without having to pay extra). Badass phone for only having to pay 50 bucks to ATT to get it. If you happen to get it and it has ICS on it (which had a lot of bugs on the TL), get the JB update on it ASAP.
Sorry to be so wordy, but I've spent hours on this forum figuring all this out. Just trying to save you some time...

It's a great device and acts like the very popular Xperia T, (If you flash the European .140 firmware with flashtool excluding the baseband to keep 4GLTE

I purchased the sg s3 to replace my water-damaged Ion and I hated it. I have to take 3 or 4 pictures everytime to make sure I got a good one. I also didn't like the way notifications still come through the phone speaker instead of the earphones when you are using them and I didn't use any of the gimmicky features of the s3. So I bought a TL on Ebay and sold the S3. The camera on the Xperia TL is much better. I plan to stay with Sony next time I upgrade.
I ilke my Xperia T more than my previous phone (S3). Sony's launcher kills Sammy's TouchWiz... and the S3 had some pretty silly rules, like when using the volume button to turn down the ringtone, the notification volume didn't follow automatically. Also it had this annoying volume escalation in the ringtone when getting a phone call. Had to use a 3rd party app to silence it (but some custom roms had this 'feature' fixed so that was good.). I enjoy the size of the Xperia T more than the S3 also.
Things I don't like about the Xperia T that the S3 handled fine were 1) Removing the battery... I like to know I can replace the battery at any time. 2) When I plug my Sony PS3 controller into the S3, it can instantly use it as an input device... when I plug the controller into my Xperia T, it whines about how it can't power it.
I came from the Samsung Captivate, this phone is way better than that device.
The only thing I miss is dsp manager from cm10. The bass and volume were absolutely killer.

Much happier with this than my old s3 had it for 3 days and found it to plastic. No doubting that it's a half tidy phone, just feel that the t is way better made and considering that the s3 is meant to have a better processor. This performs awesome.

Sony's phones are design for speed despite their low CPUs unlike other brands which hogs their phones with useless tweaks, thus reducing speed.

low CPUs?are you kidding me?american SG3 has the same dual core and remember 28nm dual core krait is on almost on par with exonos and better than tegra3 45nm

When I said low CPUs I meant for their older device. Also I meant it as lower CPUs. Sony having a lower CPUs than others.

The PS3 power consumption problem doesn't exist if you use Sony Ericsson Livedock DK25 (even though it was for SE2011 devices) as I use an Xbox wired controller on my 3 out of my 4 android devices without a problem

I came from a very similar model, the HTC One XL (only difference between the SGS3 is the extra 1GB of RAM). I was a little skeptical at first but I picked up the TL at walmart for 10 cents. Having not seen them anywhere else I thought it was quite the find. The camera is what sold me on it for sure.
As I got to using it, I realized what a smart move it was. All of my favorite mods for the One XL were native to this device. Bravia engine, clear audio+, xloud, etc. I had pretty much all of the Sony stuff installed on my HTC so it made the stock ROM very much usable; A slightly embellished AOSP. This is the first Android device I have EVER owned that I had no desire to flash a new ROM to get away from the stock software, which is typically clunky and slow, managing memory very poorly. Not with the TL. It takes full advantage of the identical hardware that my old phone had, proving to me that there really isn't any need for quad/octa core power-hungy beasts yet.
At first I didn't like the screen, but after playing with the settings a bit, I love it. The limited viewing angle ensures privacy, though some people do not like it. Colors are very true to life, as opposed to the One XL which is vivid and bright, but colors would look washed out. My wife had the S III and I absolutely hated the power-hungy super AMOLED. screen, everything looked so artificial. What amazes me most about the TL display is how functional it is with the backlight turned way down. Reproduces colors very well and is very readable in indoor and outdoor situations. Makes for a very battery-efficient device.
Yes the bootloader can't be unlocked, and flashing ROMS is limited compared to Samdung or HTC, but when you can theme and mod the device with a locked bootloader why bother? I have CM10 themes and cybershot camera, themed SMS and dialer, with the docomo status bar and task switcher. Debloated and greenified this has been the best stock experience I have had with any device. I'm sold on Sony I think I will stick with them.
I'd say I'd love a unlocked bootloader for the sake of a ported Ubuntu
Anyways, I came from a Motorola Defy+. Whilst the phone was "dumber", there was one single thing it made better than my current Xperia T: Audio playback. Never complained about that. On my Sony, however, it's quite problematic. As I really like to skip audio, it's a issue for me. I also dislike the audio bloatware Sony gives me. I flashed a different .FTF, no difference at all. Waiting for 4.2./4.3 (although I could flash a ROM).
However, this is not the entire story.
The Walkman music player rocks with one single dumb thing: search. I can search an album/artist/song/genre/whatever, and access everything really fast (I've got 20 GBs of music on my phone). And that's nice.
I also like the hardware and the lack of bloatware. The camera, which is good. The screen size is perfect IMO.
I like the fact that it feels mine, and only mine. That I can mod it, if I want to, and that I can.
I really am waiting for Ubuntu for this, and maybe I'll even flash MIUI some day.
I'm thinking of getting an xperia t mainly because of the camera. Should be in my hands by the end of the week. I know that it seems like a downgrade from my nexus 4 but it's not gonna stop me from trying it.

i came to Xperia V from SGS3. i must say i hated the S3 because of it's size and i got frustrated when i tried to operate the phone with one hand and couldn't reach the screen and the phone often fell from my hand trying.
however, i miss the screen, the samsung roms, the plethora of choices and mods to use (not forgetting a super cool CM 10.1 build which i loved)
and one thing i just constantly mind about Xperia V is that doesn't give separate volumes for the ring and notification. as you know we use our smartphones a lot for chatting and i want to be able to have a low volume for the notifications, while not risking to miss a phone call.
apart from this, i love the V. it's water resistant and the camera is cool.
oh yes, and the last thing is the battery. i think that the V should also have stamina mode and try to make the device last throughout the day while using it extensively. when i say this, i always compare the usage time and the battery juice we get from both phones, i have a feeling that the S3 lasted me a good 2 hours longer than the V with about similar amount of usage
I came from a Galaxy Note.
The main thing for me is the camera. The Samsung cameras are rubbish - my note and my friends' S3s and even the recent S4 can't touch the Xperia for camera quality. I don't even take my point and shoot instant camera out anymore!
I guess the thing you will probably notice more than anything initially though it's the screen. LCD isn't so bright and vibrant as Samsung's LED ones, but I find them more natural and the Bravia engine is good.
My only other comment is that I was never really happy with my Samsung phone. I was constantly wanting to flash new custom or leaked firmware for a better experience. Don't really feel like that with the Sony device - it just works and doesn't have the garish TouchWiz interface either!
Im coming from a S3, and my first impression was the build of the entire phone, the quality is amazing and than S3, I'm really happy with my new phone

I had a s3 before. Then changed to the Xperia Ion then just bought the Xperia T tonight.
So far love it. And yes alot more than the S3.
Short version:
Before you bought the Xperia SP, which other mobiles were you taking into consideration and what made you choose (or not) the SP?
Long version:
Here's the thing: today I was ready - I finally went to a shop and proudly said "I want to buy the Xperia SP". Unfortunately they only had the white version so I'll have to wait one more week. This was quite disappointing because I really, really wanted it so badly and since I now have another week to decide maybe there are other/better alternatives among midrange smartphones?
Thanks!
Tons of others phones.
Optimus G, but no card slot. Nexus 4, same problem.
Galaxy S4, unfortunately far too expensive.
MI2-A, no SD slot, again.
Motorola Razr HD, CPU sucks. Same with the HTC One X+.
HTC One? No way to get a 64gb here in ****ty Europe.
So, well, the SP is the only 720p phone with a microSD slot, and a good built quality that I can afford.
Only big problem: devs support. We have DoomLord, but no one else. I'm afraid we will never get CyanogenMod.
Some time ago I've spoken with fxp. They said they need to buy phone to start development.
This device is fresh so don't expect development will start from day of release.
BTW. XSP is middle range device... This is next reason to start development later then e.g. XZ relatively.
I was considering buy N4 or XSP or wait for some time and collect more money and buy SGN2 or XZ.
C5303 is great device, powerfull, supported LTE, nice looking, with 'big' screen, made from good quality materials, with usefull transparent iluminated bar, with good quality camera and other hardware and released with 4.1.2 (Google said that phones need to be upgraded for 18 mounths from release so we can expect something above then 4.2.2 with this specs).

Well I am thinking of getting this one. And I see no existing PA or CM support. But I used to compile my own ROMs for my Nexus (which is dead and the reason why I am getting this one) so I think I can compile for this ROM too, the only difficulty being the illumination bar API, on which I have never wrked till date.
Plus its a relatively new phone, so we will see more action once other devs buy the device too!
Cheers mates!

Are you really going to recant about buying an XPERIA™ SP just for waiting a week to get the color you want? Really? I must wait another half year to get mine and it isn't available here in Mexico still. I don't want to be mean but don't be like that. I'd wish to have your luck, about being in your situation.
There aren't better options for a midrange smartphone with the potential of this XSP, really, it'll be very worthy to wait for it.

... But there is no need to implement illumination api in apps/system in begin stage. First we need fully working cm then we can think about transparent bar and it's lights Think this is not so hard to implement it. Sony release api and documentation also great will be see floating touch working like in stock rom (gloves mode).

As of now, Best mid range phone is still SP. S3 is a bit more expensive, but SP is better than it (except for camera and if you like amoled). If you want you can wait for HTC one mini, although its only 4.3 inches and price is not yet revealed.

I believe the HTC to be far more expensive, without any expansion port, and with a huge bezel.
S3 is a good choice, yea. But the S4 mini is a complete joke. No HD, and the worst pricing ever.
Maybe, for someone that is not in a hurry, waiting for the X Phone could be a good idea. But for now, SP (and S3) rules.
Hmmm, I 1st look at N4, but it cost as much as a XZL, not worth it I guess, but getting either one will blow my budget. so I then get an XV, after three weeks a member of my local Facebook group is interested to swap his SP with My V.. He is a mobile seller who get the SP for free, but he need a waterproof phone as he ride a bike. So that how I get the SP.

well, today I bought the SP - I like it a lot, the only downsides are:
- WIFI signal
- Camera is quite weak
- can't connect it to my Mac?! the option to access the storage in order to transfer files isn't there.. (tg there's airdroid)
I'll try it over the weekend but if the wifi is still an issue (intermittent signal 5m from the router with no walls in between!) I'll give it back and will look for an alternative.. we'll see

Battery: ok, I installed plenty of apps and had exactly 70% left. Oddly enough this morning I had 71% left so there's a calibration issue. Now after 5 hours of occasional 3g, 20 min of offline music and some messaging it's at 29%.
Photos : not impressed
Wifi and 3g: connectivity is very poor.. my old Desire was a lot better and reliable
Screen: it's on auto brightness and honestly note while typing this message the luminosity changed about 10 times, pretty annoying.
Audio: excellent!
Overheating: no
(While writing this message the battery dropped to 26%)
I am seriously considering to give it back, I like the phone but the connectivity issue seems to be h hardware related.. I'm a moment of madness I even thought about buying an iPhone5 instead..

About battery... Battery live is good - 2+ days standard usage: sms, calling, 3g always on, about 50 minutes wifi activity, stamina on, some photos and movies.
And when I got my phone first 2 days was waring... Battery was very week. I have charged my phone about 3-4 times. And on third day battery is ok strange but I'm happy it now working correctly.
Mobile signal is ok. Like in my previous Xperia S.
Wifi is week - waiting for SW update.
Autobrightness must be improved, this is not working properly.
Camera is not so good, waiting for SW update.
Usefull transparent illumination bar. VERY VERY GOOD IDEA TO PLACE IT IN THIS PHONE!!!!

Yep, indeed. Only that it's slightly bigger, heavier and more expensive. But apart from that it looks like the waterproof twin of the SP Actually, if the wifi problems still hold on I might go back to the store and try to get the ZR instead.
Well, today I gave my SP back and fetched a S4 Mini instead.
I'm not saying all SPs have the same issues as mine had, but the ones that I had (below) were pretty severe and after talking twice to the Xperia customer service and 2 factory resets they were like "just return it". I guess I was unlucky but here's what went wrong and what I really liked:
What I liked:
- Battery: after 2 full days I still had 12% left
- Screen: it's simply wonderful
- Call quality: The sound was really really good
What went wrong:
- WiFI was just horrible as I often lost signal even with the router being 3 meters away. I tried changing the router's channel/frequency but that didn't help, even my old HTC Desire has much better WiFI signal.
- Multitasking: Couldn't use 3g with Chrome (2-3 tabs open) and listen to Google Music (playing music from the SD card) at the same time as it always closed Google Music. I guess I should have seen that one coming with 1gb RAM only.
- Call issues: today all of a sudden I could only hear the other person speaking when using headphones or by activating the speaker
Hello Xperia Z users!
My friend wants to buy a new phone and because she doesn't really know about all the models she asked me.
I recommended this phone and she liked it because of the design and about being waterproof and all that goodies. Plus it's the cheapest of all the (old) flagships here.
She will keep the phone absolutely stock. No rooting no custom Roms.
I want you to tell me if this phone is good enough for everyday usage.
Also keep in mind that she's coming from an Xperia Ray which is a kinda terrible phone (for today's standards).
thank you!
The phone is ready for the bin

I recommend the XZ also. Still a perfect phone. I'm using it for over a year now. Looks good, it's smooth and stable.
I love mine. I've had it since December 2013 and have boring but good things to say about it. The 4.4.2 update has some bugs and Google play services have an issue that kills the run time. It is apparently been an issue for a while now on many different devices. It's easy to fix if rooted.
Sent from my C6606 on 4.4.2 KitKat
I would have a year ago or more but its old now. I bet this might be last software update it will receive, The Z1 exists and is now outdone by the Z2.
So this phone 2 versions behind now. So no, i would go for a Z1 or Z2 if you can afford it
If she's going to put the phone in tight pocket pants, or any other place that might flex the phone, it might lead to internal issues.
Otherwise, she has to make sure that she doesn't drain her battery to 0% as Li-Ion batteries tend to shut themselves down if they are drained too much, for which the phone has to be opened, battery removed and boosted at a service shop.
Make backups, preferably just charge the phone through the USB port and in the meantime it will make a backup.
Taking these things into account, it's a really good phone, but I would go for something else to be on the safe side.
i'm using this phone for over a year, since the day it has been released in germany.
i really cannot complain. it's by far the best phone i've ever used, and i think i'm going to use it a very long time from now on.
sure, the z1/z2 are newer, samsung s5 is maybe better....but if she just needs a good phone, not the newest one, and if she isn't planning to apply custom roms or tweak it, then why not getting a z? she doesn't seem to be a nerd or geek. why should she get a z1/z2? i've never had *any* issues with this phone. this is an awesome every-day-phone.
don't know why the pre-posters make such a fuss about charging, backups, etc.
I've had my Xperia Z for over a year now, and I still love it.
It's super fast and and is just great for daily use. The size and weight of the phone is just perfect. I don't even feel compelled to upgrade to the Z1 or Z2 because they're thicker and heavier. My hand begins to feel a little tired after just holding the Z2 for a while.
You won't have any regrets getting the Z!
I still recommend this phone. Its quite powerful device and you can do almost you want. This phone never easily dies.

Yeah, but after a while you get some experience and knowledge and you become less problems because that. Sure if there is something new in the developing section it needs time to work properly, it's just normal but for all the other things it's helpful to have experinece.

Thats right. After i knew the "root" then bricked my phone i knew after it The "FLASHTOOL" right now im very happy because i know "flashtool" . But for me... "keep clean" is still better than installing an app need root then getting bootloop or flashing zip then bootloop and always thank a ton for flashtool and the makers of flashtool and thanks to SUS and to sony:fingers-crossed:
yes as far as getting custom roms because Sony is okay with the community even though you say goodbye to your warranty (i had a bad time with that one). I here the S5 is still to be rooted. I don't know if i can wait for OEM updates and what not. the PA guys are always coming up with something fresh. So a phone thats easily root-able and everything that comes with that is a plus for me and i would recommend. Though i am jones-ing for the LG G3
Yeah the thing is the phone will not be mine and I really don't want to risk it. I know about rooting and modding and everything but I really don't wanna get involved. That's why I asked if it will be ok with stock Rom. So I guess if it comes with 4.3 I will not update it..if it comes with 4.4 I'll see what I can do.

losing warranty when using a custom rom is depending on the country you bought the phone.
for example, in germany you won't lose warranty when using a custom rom, unless your dealer/sony can prove that installing a custom rom is the cause for the phones malfunction/defect -> a broken screen or power button can't be caused by a cyanogen mod rom.

Not sure, but in many countries it should come with 4.4.
I don't understand why people bring up that the phone is "old". It's about 1.5 year "old" that's true, but.... what can newer phones do that the XZ can't?? They might have higher PPI (only a few) and higher CPU clock, but that is really about it. Even for daily use.... I've got my phone since it came out end of Feb 2013 and I can still use my phone for longer then a day easily. Let alone when battery is still new.
The XZ is really still up to par with phones that were just released.
The problem with this phone is the screen, it's sub par, below average.... Put a 1080p amoled next to it and you will see what I mean
