SmarterBit
Hi everyone! I have recently released an Xposed Framework module called SmarterBit to allow you to enhance your Fitbit Charge and Charge HR fitness trackers.
Features
SMS/Text Notifications
Custom SMS/Text notification format
Notifications only if the device screen is off
Hide Caller ID for phone calls
and many more to come!
Features I am currently working on adding are quiet hours (either "intelligent" based on your Fitbit detecting sleep or a user-set range), Tasker implementation, smart alarms, and adding more integration with other messaging services (WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, etc.)
Link
The app is currently on sale through the Google Play Store for $1.50 and can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikerinehart.smarterbit
I am open to any and all suggestions for feature additions from the community

I just installed the app and I'm testing it out. I see messages typically get cut off. Is this just a screen timeout limit? I sent you a PM too.

Unfortunately yes - the screen timeout limit is a firmware limitation.

How about MMS notifications? I understand you can't translate pictures into text, but sometimes there is text accompanying the picture. You could add the option to customize like SMS so that you could at least see who the MMS is from (ex: MMS received from %sender%).

Heh, I was actually thinking about this the other day. I'll see what I can do

Did today's Fitbit app update break your app? SMS is no longer working for me. I see they implemented new Notification settings in the app update today.

I just bought the app and coincidentally Fitbit app has updated as well, so I couldn't get SMS notifications working after setting everything up. Calls got displayed on my Charge HR as they would with Fitbit's own Caller ID.. Thought of refunding the app but then stumbled across the post above. I can Enable SmartBit in the Fitbit app, but SMS notifications don't show up on my wrist.
Update:
After rolling back the Fitbit app to 2.10 (I don't care for GPS routes in 2.11 as I don't own a Surge) and deleting app data for SmartBit I can tell for sure that neither of notifications worked with 2.11. The vibration pattern SmartBit uses for CallerID is different to the default one-time kick from Fitbit's Notification. Also, when SmartBit actually overrides the default notification engine there's no indication of 'Notifications are running' in the status bar. What seems to have changed in 2.11 is the fact that they now allow you to select from multiple notification sources - Dialer, Skype .. whatever have you. SmartBit must not be set up to deal with these, despite the fact that it overrides the default 'Enabled Notifications' with 'Enable SmartBit' in Fitbit's application.
On a related note, I previously had a Huawei phone (H30-U10), where SMS were being routed as calls by default (I guess for their own Talk Band device), so my CHR was reading them as a classic pager would without any human intervention. Switching to a Sammy phone has lost me this feature so I was forced to look for a workaround.

Yes - the latest Fitbit update breaks SmarterBit. Please rollback to the previous version (2.10 I believe) if you would like SmarterBit functionality... At least until I can reverse engineer their new changes and push an update. I've recently started a new full-time job so I don't have as much time as I used to, but I'll try my best to get it updated for everyone

Any progress?

I'll steer clear of this app. Seems dev is too busy (understandably). What other options are out there for more functionality from charge hr?

GVXMPP-Push notification of Google SMS!

ok guys, im sure many of u are annoyed by the fact that google voice (official) refreshes every 5 minutes! so that mean you have to wait 5 minutes to get your SMS and that is just stupid. i heard many of you use GV by eric (i think thats his name) and actually stopped working on his app but the cool thing is that he has notification setup for every 1 minute! thats cool, but lame at the same time because you have to use two apps to get a notification. well i just found the app to solve our problems!
Its called GVXMPP and you can get it here!

Basically it uses the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) to literally PUSH your SMS to you! no more waiting for you SMS to come through. for me, being on tmobile, i canceled my texting plan and i just use google voice to send a SMS and I thought i would just have to deal with the whole 5 min notification.
Its really easy to setup and use. Its involves forwarding your SMS to a specific email address (be it your GVXMPP username) and when you open the app, you can see them there. Of course, you could just push them to your regular email address but this is nice because it groups it all under each senders name and you can have an ongoing conversation.
The problems:
This app is in ALPHA stage. It doesnt look pretty and it has some issues. This is the email that I sent them about their app:
-notification bar doesn't clear when u click on on the sms.
-connection randomly disconnects even if the app is running. Takes a couple secs to reload.
-msg from friend was displayed twice. First one didn't come through cuz it was disconnected. After reconnection (after i sent a msg) I got two of the same sms from them.
-when you open an sms from the notification panel, when u hit back it doesn't take u back to the app homescreen (where it displays the sms senders) it just shows you the last person u spoke with and the last message (it removes the newer message or doesn't update) hitting back should take u to the app home menu.
-when u text in landscape mode the text just keep scrolling horizontally as you type. Doesn't jump to the next line like normal.
-(not a bug) ugly ui, can't generate new sms, no picture of sender, not sure why it displays the long ID under the senders name, needs to be integrated with the Google voice app but I doubt that's something you can control. Just so its easier to like place a call or see contact info.

and their response was:
1. Notification Bar doesn't clear - this has been fixed and will be released to the market tonight.
2. Connection Randomly Disconnects - We are continuing to work on this, and so far it's been getting better.
3. Message Displayed Twice - Known issue, working on a fix.
4. Back / Navigation Issues - Noted, will put it on the list of things to fix.
5. Landscape Mode - What kind of phone do you have?

When you get a message, it will pop up in the notification panel. (see below for a screenshot). Okay guys, so try it out. It works for me, yes some hiccups, but they are suppose to release an update tonight! let me know what you think, hit me up on Twitter

oh and....ITS FREE!!!
Bricks were shat.
*Searches on Market for it*
Iman07,
Thanks for your awesome write-up!
Indeed the app is "alpha", but over the past week I've been able to make huge strides in improving it, and am going to try my best to stick to making new releases whenever possible to squash bugs and add functionality.
Another cool thing to point out, you can sign in to your GVXMPP account with any XMPP client, such as Pidgin or Adium. This will allow you to get your SMS messages in the same push format on your desktop/laptop. Additionally, we do not require your Google username or password to make this service work, unlike other solutions.
There will be an update hitting the market shortly which will include:
- Contact Sorting - Contacts will be sorted alphabetically.
- Notification Bug - Notifications will now be properly cleared.
- Double Message - Messages were being appended to the conversation list even if they were already displayed, this should no longer happen.
- Performance - A few small performance increases that should cut down on memory usage.
Some things we have planned for the near future:
- Contact Photo integration.
- Better contacts integration (initiate calls from chats, etc).
- Better unread message indicators on the contact list.
- Overall UI improvements, including conversation themes.
If you would like to stay up to date, follow @gvxmpp on Twitter, or feel free to post bugs/suggestions to this thread.
As previously stated, GVXMPP is free and I intend to keep it that way.

[Android 2.1+] SMS Forwarder Pro

After finally having a new emailing service in place, I am happy to announce the release of SMS Forwarder Pro. An SMS Forwarding app that does so much more than just forward your text messages to any number and/or email that you specify.
AndroidAppsReview.com gave it the Editors Choice award in their review.
SMS Forwarder Pro is a tremendous value for those in need. What you make of the app is up to you, but with a fair price, tremendous functionality, and a gut-bustingly simple design, SMS Forwarder Pro earns a full recommendation from us here at Android Apps Review. The app is a power-punch for the right user, and with killer tech support rolled into the mix, your days of wondering exactly what was said to whom are officially over.

Hi,
i´ve read both sites, but few questions are hanging on me.
You have written something about stealth mode, did this mode also hide the app from the Froyo menue?
In my humble oppinion it is not very tricky for kids to discover and delete this app.
If the app is configured, is it neccessary to activate it every time, or ist there an option to "start" the service permanent?
Thanks for more information
Regards
Christian

I have the same question
Hi!
My apologies for the late reply.
Anyways, its not necessary to manually start the forwarding at boot. This can be configured from the app and its possible to have it automatically start up.
It is however, not possible to hide the app from the launcher. Even if it was, it would still be visible in the application management screen anyways, so any kid who's the least tech savvy would be able to remove it.
That said, your best bet would be to install a 3rd party launcher that has the ability to hide menu items (I believe both ADW and Launcher Pro can do this).
Hope that answers your question. I am contemplating releasing a free version of the app here on XDA for a limited time period!
New update uploaded. Fixes some layout issues on low-res devices, and improved layout alignment on all other devices!

About the LED Icon Editor app for the LED case

Hello. I just got a Note 8 with the Samsung LED case. So far, I'm loving both and the case looks so beautiful. However, the icon creating app, 'LED Icon Editor', is not very good. It's quite difficult to draw the icons if you're not very good at drawing (I suck).
Here's the interface:

Has anybody find any app or online guide that can be useful to design different icons. For instance, I use WhatsApp a lot, and so far, every attempt to draw the WhatsApp icon has been a total failure so I'm just using a W, which also was not very easy to draw. So I used something like this as a guide but it won't work for icons just letters and common symbols
The guide I've been using:
Another issue I have is that if I reset or flash my phone, I will lose all my custom icons. Is there any way to backup the data for this app without root? (I'm thinking maybe backing up a particular folder).
Thanks.
I would also like to see what others have done. I have created a few custom icons for simple things like email and twitter. I tried doing one for snapchat and it never turned out good so I just gave up.

mub51 send me a couple of icons
These are the ones I have created.
I started to play with this, but it seems you can only set it for certain contacts. Is there another place you can set it per app? For example, 1 for any texts, 1 for emails, etc.

Yes this is possible. You can choose contacts , next to that you can choose apps. Look at my uploads and click on the word next to 'personen'
Sent from my Note 8
Apparently you can't set it to the text app though? I see multiple apps listed, but no texts apps are in that list. Same with the Phone app.

That is correct. However you could try selecting contacts. I do not now if this will work.
For messaging, you could try to download a third party messaging app and give permission to the app to receive all messages, then you could select that app and give it a different led icon.
This is all in theory I did not check it for you.
Let me know if it works

I tried selecting all the contacts, but it only lets you select up to 100 contacts per icon.
The 3rd party messaging apps do not show on the list either.
Alas, it seems that this may not be a possibility.
Hello all!
please can you help me? how can we backup the icons that we made with the Led Icon Editor app?
many thanks

Sort notifications by time

Hi guys!
Just move to android from iPhone's since day one. I do have it about 5/6 months and I was hable to sort all of the different settings and I can say that I'm really happy with the change.
I only have one little problem that makes me crazy, can't get notifications sort by time like the iPhone, so I constantly get "Ding" and can't tell what it is calling my attention... I talked this issue with a friend from office, he has a Xiaomi, and it does have the notifications sort by time, the screen wakes and highlight the notification when arrives. That's exactly what I need! Tried some apps like Glympse but only change the home screen and not the notifications on the status bar.
Why Galaxy notifications are set like this? is there a order that I can understand?

And this is my note 8 on Oreo notifications:
Thank's and I'm sorry if this was on other site but was not able to find a fix for this
PD: Can't make images smaller

it happens because of "priority notifications"
Swipe a notification to the right/left just a little until you can tap the gear, then check whether or not they're priority.

Thanks a lot a very simple answer to a question I have been struggling with since I changed devices. My thanks sir. It's a small thing that I wasnt sure I could change.
Same here
Hi everyone. I am facing the same problem, and it has nothing to do with priorities, it seems Android is set that way but I can't figure out how Android sorts notifications; I've tried replacing the notification bar by some other app but it still sorts it the way Android does. I've searched all over the internet but no solution so far. It seems that only Emui and IOS counts with that feature. Has anyone find a solution?
I'm having the same issue with the new s10. Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
I Think the Notifications are sorted by the Type. So notifications wird popups are shown higher then notifications with just Sound.
I bet the option doesn't exist because of Google's position as an ad company. Apps are essentially advertisers and they likely abhor the idea that their notifications could be user sorted. They want prioritisation.
Chronological Notifications
If the Notifications are not chronological then they are useless. It is absolutely ridiculous and unproductive to have to scroll for two minutes just to try to figure out why your phone just beeped. I use BlackBerry Hub. It's a third party email app that also conglomerates all of your phone's app and calendar notifications and displays them in proper chronological order. I highly recommend BlackBerry hub if you have multiple email/social media accounts managed on one phone. Otherwise good luck trying to figure out who is trying to reach you with these Google add based notification displays.
I have this exact problem in my Oneplus 6. Is there any solution? I hate Android due to this. Why there is no simple option in the settings to sort notifications based on the time they arrived?
i tried so much its so sucks
u can try notification master app
u can see all notifications arranged bu time
I'm going F'n nuts with these Android notifications. Same problem, I get an alert sound then check notifications and I have no F'n idea what just alerted me. They need to be sorted by reverse date/time order with the latest at the top (ideally). Who the F wrote the notification code? Do they even use their own phone?

Question Android chat bubbles option missing in apps on Samsung devices?

Is this a Samsung thing where they intentionally butchered this feature except for in their own messaging app? Floating bubbles is set in the notification settings but when I search for the option in Facebook Messenger, all I get is the option for the crappy chat heads. On my Pixel 6, I can set this option. I even tried copying over the exact apk that is working from the Pixel to the Samsung phone and the option is still not there.
This?

No, the bubbles option. In Settings -> Notifications -> Advanced Settings -> Floating notifications there are 3 options: Off, Bubbles, and the one you have in your screenshot. I am wanting bubbles so that all my conversations across all my apps are grouped together. I have bubbles enabled in that settings menu but the option still doesn't show for me in any app besides Samsung Messages.

Sorry, it's disorienting when you lose your preferred IU... I know.
I hate that interface... so I was happy to ditch it.
Can't even find it now, I may have package disabled it almost 2 years ago.
Not sure if it can do what you want.
Play with it... Samsung's are very customizable.

That particular option does what I want on phones made from different manufacturers. It seems Samsung is blocking it somewhere. I was hoping that someone would have some idea of what package blocks it so I can disable that. Perhaps that is just something that will never work, kind of like visual voicemail in the native phone app on a Samsung deice.
Why not just use Google's Messaging app, which has these features and is also pre-installed?
I couldn't easily see what is Samsung's or Google's Messages App ('Berichten' in Dutch), but both were included with OneUI 4.0. See attached picture: left is Google right is Samsung Messaging. Google allows attachments.

You are right, I didn't understand the Bubble thing. Should have read better. Also I think I mixed up your thread with other in S21 + forum
Haven't tested in OneUI 4, but bubbles for FB Messenger / Signal did work for me back in OneUI 3.
Besides setting Floating notifications - Bubbles, also try FB Messenger - App info - Notifications - Notification categories - Show as bubbles - All / Selected only.
Supported apps also seem to have a little icon in the notification, I assume it allows bubbles for that specific conversation.
