I came into possession of a Samsung Galaxy Note from a relative visiting from China which my wife wanted to flash to English ROM for use in the States. However, this seem to be a model specifically designed for the Chinese market. It has PDA firmware i889FA06 and build date of Jan 6, 2012. This is NOT the i889 CDMA PDA phone, but an actual Galaxy Note with i889 firmware (not sure why?). It supports CDMA and GSM, with the following information in the about section:
Model Number: SCH-i889
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband: i889FA06
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-CL872127 [email protected] #2
Build number: Gingerbread.FA06
Quick search of the Galaxy Note i889 lands me in all sorts of Chinese sites, but nowhere can I find any information on how to flash with a ROM made for western world.
Is this even possible? Or is the hardware different enough that only the stock ROM will work?
Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I dont know of any official NOTE that supports both CDMA and GSM my friend. I believe you have been given one of the fake Chinese handsets and it has been passed off to you as an official NOTE.
What makes you say that it is a real NOTE?
This was purchased from one of the major Chinese carriers which is loaded with their branded firmware, not through some mom&pop shop on the street. Plus the quality of the handset is high, I doubt the clone sets can achieve the same quality, both the material and the OLED display. Here are some spec I found:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3343&c=samsung_sch-i889_galaxy_note
But still no sign of any firmware that can be flashed to this unit...
the n7000 have arm cpu while this one has Exynos cpu just like the att version. i think your phone is locked to china mobile. it could be a korean or a chinese version
For the love of God, just paste SCH-i889 into Google and you'll get all the info you need.
Really? I goggled several times and still didn't see anything about flashing it with a western firmware...

For the record, att version doesn't have exynos. It has snapdragon.

This is probably the "other" international version like the n7000. There are two international versions of the Note and there is the ATT version. I don't know about firmware though becasue I don't remember seeing a thread for this model on XDA.
i believe that is the china version of galaxy note. ( mr google tells me that )
unfortunately i cant find your device in www.sammobile.com
come across this website for roms and stuff

I'm just curious which version of the note 5 (n920X) has the best modification capability. I'm asking this cuz before I bought a n900v, a Verizon note 3 and it had a lock bootloader and it didn't have many rooms to install. Which version of note 5 has the most rom compatibility I guess that's the question. I can buy n920 (s, l, k, p)and also n9200 (Hong kong) version. If I didn't mention any please also tell me also thank you
I just acquired a Note 8 that's the unlocked Hong Kong variant. It has a laundry list of issues thanks to the China based firmware. Is there a way to install US based firmware? Aiming for T-Mobile US firmware if possible. If not, then any new firmware is fine. I was just hoping to get the Digits dialer since I have two lines
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Never mind. It turns out the issues weren't from it being a Hong Kong model, but because it was a counterfeit.
So if someone would kindly close or delete this thread...
Hi knowledgeable people,
Iam from the UK and know the rog 3 won't be coming here, so I need to buy it from elsewhere. The tencent version is for sale with an international rom. I know the phone will work with the bands and what not but how will the software work? Ota? Will there be parts in Chinese or is the international rom the global one?
Thanks in advance.
Currently they are coming with the Chinese rom as far as I know but last year flashing the international rom was a fairly easy process.
