Hey there XDA freinds. I'm REALLY wanting to get the Bamboo Slickwrap for my white Note 5, but from my experience with putting the bamboo skin on the Nexus 6, the real wood does not play well with curves. I ended up getting it on the curved back of the N6 good with a hair dryer. Got the sides heated up and extra sticky and it held down pretty good. Just wondering if anybody has tried on the Note 5 yet. Its mostly flat, but the edges are curved so much that I fear it will be impossible to get the real wood skins on without breaking them or having them pop up.
Any feedback is appreciated.
i'd be curious to know too. they look pretty slick (no pun intended). I know with dbrand skins in general, they say to use a hair dryer for the curves of a phone, so that's probably pretty standard, OP.

I can assure you that the bamboo is awesome. The one I had for the nexus was sick. I suppose I'll order a note 5 one and see how it works.

that's cool. how much thicker was it than a normal wrap? could you tell it was a little thicker? also, is it slick to the touch or kind of matte (helping with holding it?)

It's pretty thick compared to a regular wrap. At least as thick as stacking 3-4 standard skins on top of each other.
As for the feel. It's real bamboo. Feels like bamboo. The closest thing I can compare the texture to (other than bamboo) is a wooden cutting board. It's a very nice feel and the wood has enough texture to make the phone pretty easy to hold. When I had the bamboo on my nexus I never felt like I was going to drop it like I did without a case or skin.

nice. could you feel like a sharp edge at the bottom of the phone from the wrap? when I hold my phone, I have my pinky finger under the bottom of the phone supporting it.

I hold mine the same way. Have had the "sharp edge" issue with several cases but not the bamboo slick wrap. It was pretty comfortable.

Had a leather back on my nexus 6 favorite phone accessory by far. It looks like the style / company who makes the leather for the note might be different? Very interested in pictures.

Exactly, even giving thought into punching out a hole in my leather once it arrives to mimic the dimple in my Nexus right now. I hope / think the leather is thick enough that it will recede the camera lens._Thoughts?

Just did a quick test. I layed my previous leather skin from my Nexus 6 on the Note5, it's nearly flush with the camera. Giving some thought on "padding" around the camera cut out in order to raise it slightly. Hope it gets here soon.

That looks great, could you take a picture of it from the side? I'm curious how far it sticks up from the edge. Also any signs of it peeling off?

Gorgeous. As expected. But can we get a pic maybe of the phone laying flat on a table, and from the side. As other said, would like to get an idea of the depth of the skin.
Also, is this skin still on the phone? Are the sides peeling at all? How did you get it to wrap around the curved edges so nice? Do you use the hairdryer trick?

Hello,
If your familiar with the Nexus 6 Bamboo back and it's thickness, than these pieces are thinner which means more flexibility and better adhering. In addition, the corners are slightly beveled to lessen any sharpness while holding the device.
Not a photographer, but delighted to help.

Today I took receipt of 2 Nillkin Hard Cases for the GT-N7100 Galaxy Note (One brown, one Red.)
I bought them from eBay for around £6 each delivered, the quality is surprisingly good, I wasn't keen on having a TPU or Soft Silicone case, or the flip case that I had for my original Note. So I thought I'd give this one a try.
You can see that it comes well packaged, not just in an envelope as is usually the case from Chinese suppliers of such products.

It also includes a screen protector, I've not yet fitted that, as I already have one fitted that's in good condition.
As you can see from the next set of photos, it doesn't really add a great deal of bulk, which is another reason I didn't want a TPU or Silicon case.
Granted I can't see it protecting the phone from a massive fall, but I wanted to keep the svelte lines as much as I could, whilst adding some grip, which it does nicely with the texture that is on the under side.
The fit is really snug, I had reservations at first, but once it's fitted it doesn't move at all, so I have no worries about it slipping off.
All-in-all I think it's a really good product, it adds protection from scratches for most of the phone, whilst not being too bulky, just enough thickness to save the camera lens from getting scratched when you put the phone down.
So if you're looking for a case and have similar requirements to my own, consider giving this one a try.
thank you for your return
Excellent review and photos, its a shame the case doesn't cover the top and bottom of the phone .
i just made a thread about this, but yours is nicer so....
I didn't like the fit at ALL until I just removed the back cover from my note 2 completely.
I don't really care about NFC so I'm okay with this. I like having a bit more lip too.
I find a couple of the edges a bit sharp. meaning if I hold the phone in landscape, my index fingers get scraped a little bit by the case edges.
I might sand them down or something.
The texture on the case is quite nice - pretty subtle but noticable when you hold it.

I know what you mean, but at least it looks uniform all the way around, I had a couple of flip cases, one made by a company called Tenda, great case and had a similar hard back to it, that case did cover all the edges... except for one corner, it would have looked a bit daft if it didn't have the flip screen cover.
But because of the material, I think it would be a nightmare taking it off, if it did cover every edge, as because it's really stiff, you need some leverage when you do want to remove it.

It might just be the batch you've got perhaps, I've just been around both cases, both on and off, and there are no sharp edges, in your case, a small nail file or wet'n'dry should do the trick.
I think I know what you mean about the fit, I too was a bit cautious as it "almost" sits flush with the screen, but there is a bit of a lip and I've shaken the hell out it and it's going know where haha.

I'd be more inclined to go for the one you've found, for that added protection, I have ordered a aluminum bumper and a flip case which I'll probably post a review about, unless someone already has.
I might buy the one you've posted about too lol.
Yeah I'm on the case hunt too. Already bought the S-Line with kickstand just yesterday. I also really like the look of the one I linked to above. I'm interested in this flip cover too , which I really like for its corner protection - should be protective enough for most falls and no magnet involved to interfere with the s-pen.
And worst of all, I don't even own a Note 2 yet. Crazy or what?!
Anyhow apologies for hijacking your useful review thread

Kidding aside, those are supposed to be of a very high quality material and fitment. The guy behind these (Scott) put a lot of time and effort into research to make a perfect case with a slim fitment and drop protection. Based on reputation of their S3 cases this should be a good one as well. Will know more for sure once I have a chance to review it.

Thanks for your great observation. I think you missed that it's a 2 piece case.
The Ultra has a hard outer shell made of polycarbonate and some other voodoo. This outer shell offers far superior protection than just TPU alone.
If my girlfriend's S3 survived multiple drops on concrete, I'd say it's much more durable than just TPU.

That's cause you are in NYC and you guys got smoother concrete. Here in Jersey we got swiss cheese potholes lol!!
But in all seriousness, you guys know I reviewed a ton of accessories on this forum. Also, I heard a healthy buzz about these cases for a few months now. Obviously that got my interest considering Scott has posted in this forum before in great details about process of his material selection, fitment testing, and all other stuff that goes along with it. I also heard a lot of work went into packaging details as well. That got my curiosity for sure. Once I receive it, I will do my usual detailed review and give you my honest opinion about it.
The polycarb he uses is actually flexible. It disperses the shock better. You can actually fold rhe PC part in half without cracking it. It's not standard PC I forget what its technical name is but it's very close in chemical make up to the PC they use in fighter jet cockpits. It's almost like a polycarbonfiber instead of carbonate. The fit is also very nice for the price. Theres no play in the case when it's installed and the tpu acts as a shock absorber between the PC and device. They have the fit and slimness of just a plain tpu but the protection of an otterbox defender minus the built in SP.

id say that a lot less people break the back glass than you think, not even close to everyone. i abuse my device, and have watched it fall many time, no broken back glass. there are micro-scratches on the back, and the front is in perfect condition. that back glass helps the phone cool down faster by transferring the heat out of the phone, thats why the back is glass.

I have a Nexus 4 on the way (very excited to be coming back to Android from WP7). I'm looking at getting the Poetic bumper because I like the colours, and that's what Google seems to recommend for the phone. Does anyone think bumpers help with protection? I am under the impression that cracks and breaks happen when the edge of the devices is met with force, and not just blunt force to the glass, because that is what Gorilla Glass is designed to resist.

The poetic is actually an alright case. The bumpers help with most drops that land on the side. But if you have some sort of coins in your pocket or keys or anything that can scratch the back or front I recommend a back and front screen protector. And also wherever you drop the bumper case the glass will not crack. The weakest spot for it is if a acute object goes straight into the middle of the phone ( near the nexus logo)

I have left my nexus 4 in my pocket but don't tell me how fragile the back is to scratches man! Everywhere. My front screen was perfect and the back was scratched like hell.
Now I have the nillkin matte case but I would much rather if it had the carbon fiber back. Carbon fiber is still a strong competitor to glass. Are those skins hard or soft?

I never put anything but my phone in my right pants pocket. I have an HTC Titan that I had the OEM case and 2 3rd party cases and just stopped using them because they added too much bulk, and also had to be removed to be docked. I've had my Titan for over a year and I've only dropped it maybe 4 or 5 times. I really just need cursory protection as I've never broken a phone.

Wheeew you know I was just looking at the post the guy who had the skins and they look amazing! Carbon fiber with a black poetic case would work awesome! They protect against scratches and also the bumper protects the actual screen...
Now you got me wanting a skin and a bumper myself xD

From the pictures it looks like it's in between hard and soft. The textures seem pretty great though.

I know right! I've actually changed my mind and I'm getting a carbon fiber with a blue TPU bumper case off eBay.
12$ for the skin and 7$ for the bumper= 19$ for a sweet combo! Would look something like this

Anyone know the difference between the poetic bumpers on eBay and the TPU bumpers? Which one is recommended? Not the official since it only comes in black, I want blue...

They are soft. I own two of there skins (installed one so far). They are certainly for aesthetic purposes with the exception that they prevent scratches. Here is my setup with a ringke fusion case.
Dbrand was nice enough to not cut out the nexus symbol on request. The less places for dust to collect the better.

I like the look of the nexus letters showing.... Do you think it would be better to have them not cut out? I like it and seems a little more decoration because its plain. Surely it cant collect a lot of dust can it?

There's such a case but some users have reported total signal loss, while some others get just mild signal loss. Try at your own risk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252586
And thus it's most likely an aluminium back won't work unless there are plastic cutouts for the antenna.
Took the plunge today with skinomi techskin dark wood version. Not really sure Iif I like it yet but it is a lot better then the glossy plastic back. Takes some photos for you guys, so make your own decision.
The skin is kinda nice with texture feel to it. My only concern is with the durability of the glue. I will be using my phone naked from now on. The skinomi will have to withstand constant rubbing in my pockets and hopefully it doesn't peel off around the edges and end up being a very expensive sticker. I am hoping that it will last me at least six month and hopefully a year. Any less and I won't be purchasing their product again.
Only time will tell.

Forgot to mentioned that I purchased the at&t cut to be used with the international D802 version. The back button fits perfectly. However there is a small hole at the back above the flashe which my D802 version have no uses for.

Updated with some more pictures.
Regards,
It all depends on how good you applied the skin, and it seams that you did an excellent job.
pictures look great, thanks a lot for sharing!
Thanks. Right now the skin feels tight around the back off the phone. I used extras heat and pressure around the edges hopefully this will make the glue bonded well with the phone.

Looks good! Surprised you didnt take off the esn/imei sticker first though

how was the installation process of this? ive ordered the carbon skin version of this but was a little concerned about how easy it is to apply around the edges etc.
No worries around corner and edges. Use hair dryers that is hot enough and it literally mold it self around the edges. Keep heating it up and rub the edges with your fingers and you will get it perfect as long as you line it up correctly.

Kinda thinking about it, I was thinking it might be beneficial later on. Didn't realized it would show this much through the skin else I would have taken it off.

Just a quick update. After three weeks of usage, the skin is holding well and looked brand new.

I have always wondered about these things. They offer nothing but scratch protection and perhaps improve grip. They do look cool, especially when applied as well as yours. I guess if you do not want a case then this is the best idea other than commando. I accidentally got the full Zagg kit for one of my early phones. It didn't last long. Thin parts peeled within a couple weeks. Sounds like these are nicer

I was comfortable with a case before because this phone is so thin, extra bulk helps with the grip.
However after going naked for month, I kinda liked it a lot and the phone feels great in your hand. I hated the shiny back of G2, being a finger print magnet and always leave you hand feeling dirty and oily. This skin feels much better.
I didn't use the skinomi front protectors as it is similar to zagg. I used to have zagg for my old phone and I hated how it feels. Instead I use regular clear protector for the front.

I understand the feel. Skinomi doesnt feel like the Zagg though. It didn't have that wrinkled look with the phone off either. It may be like the newer Zagg Hd, but I do not link is because I have never tried the hd

Looks like the same material as the exoskin.
Can't really are how the corners compare the the exoskin has an 'LG' cutout that looks great.
When applying great be careful as the material can tear/break easier with heat.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
When I applied in it it was somewhat easy. After making sure that everything lined up, all you have to do is heat it with hot air from dryers especially around the corners and the skins molded it self nicely.
So far everything seemed to be sticking well to the phone. But it has only been a month so we will see.
-LG G2
I like this product; however, I had troubles keeping the corners down. When I pulled the phone out of my pocket, the corners get peeled. I ended up cut off all corners. I didn't think I'd like it afterwards but I did. Still have it on now.

Hi kcharng, I have checked Skinomi's site and I saw their techskin have some pieces to apply to the edge around phone, but I didn't see them on your phone. Could you please tell me if they were included?
Thank you.
This is pretty much my favorite combo I have found for this phone so far. It is great. Looks and feels amazing and of course isn't going to add much bulk at all to the beautiful designed phone.
First there is the slickwraps leather skin. The leather is cut precisely and adds some much needed grip to the glass back of this phone as well as giving some great uniqueness to the design. It fits very well and smells great. I have the "distressed tan leather" on me me and it looks great with the white Note 5.
Next there is the aluminum frame by Luphie. I got mine in gold to complement the brown leather. I have to admit the combo looks really impressive. The bumper frame is good quality, especially for the pretty cheap price you can pay on eBay. The frame joins together by 2 small screws, and they give you 2 extra, along with a screwdriver in the package. The openings are precise and well placed. The only opening that gives a little trouble is the one for the s-pen. It is a little deep, so is a bit difficult to eject the pen. I find if I use my pinky finger's tip though that I can hit it just fine. The headphone opening and opening for the USB cable are ample enough, and work well with aftermarket cables. The case itself is lined with some stick on foam as well, which is good as it keeps it isolated from the frame of the phone itself. This both protects the phone, and reduces the risk of interference with reception. Speaking of reception on the phone with the frame on, I do seem to see some mild effect there, but I have not tested it directly yet for numbers. When I do I will update here.
Overall, I think this is an awesome combo and really does add some good protection to the phone without adding hardly and bulk at all. It makes the phone even look more premium and does not detract from the overall design at all, which is a great plus.
Any questions, let me know.

That would look cool with the Black bumper, and black leather skin on the Blue Note 5.
How thin is that bumper ? Does it feel like just a skin and a little wider bumper ? Or does it make it feel like a thicker case ? How's the grip ? Slippery, or comfy ?
Looks cool. I have the aluminum bumper, but i couldn't stick with because of the opening for S-Pen. even my fat pinky was too big for it....
Hopefully someone makes a better bumper soon

The bumper does add some width to the phone, but not much in the way of thickness. Grip is good with the bumper, and the addition of the leather back makes it really nice to hold.

Yeah, it is a tight fit. My pinky isn't too thick I guess so it is doable for me, but yeah, that is one opening that I wish they went a little wider on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
I used the luphie bumper for about two weeks but got sick of it mainly because it adds way too much width to the phone, not so much in thickness. Also I noticed it started to scratch the frame of the N5 slightly which really made me upset. Another problem I had was that when I hold the case with one hand I usually let my pinky finger hold the phone up while I use my thumb to navigate the screen and the edges on the bottom of the case are really sharp and uncomfortable. It does look cool though... Just wish a company like Element Case would make a bumper for the Note 5
Quick update on durability and protection of this. I had not meant to test this out of course, but the other night my Note 5 slide off a table onto a tile floor and landed smack down flat on its back. I froze. Picked up the phone. Slowly took off the frame and then peeled off the leather skin. Phew. No damage at all. It fell about 3 feet of so, and sounded God awful when it hit, but thankfully came through unscathed.
