Paint scratched off inside Stylus hole? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just looked inside my stylus hole for the first time and boy do I wish I hadn't. Half the paint seems scratched off, not like it matters what your phone internals look like but I still feel a brand new phone shouldnt appear this way? Anyone else have this or is my unit just unlucky?

You may need to grease your S-Pen.

Funny i actually noticed the exact same thing.

It's not missing paint. The metal structure for the internal part where the pen goes is deisgned this way, probably for ease of manufacturing. The plastic is beneath the metal wrap-around is normal, the metal inside just isn't completely covering the structure. Not a defect. Look closely.

I had to laugh when I read this thread - really - ? Nothing against the OP - but how hard do you have to look to even see down there?

It's called attention to detail. Doesn't anyone else inspect the mic, speaker and headphone holes right after looking for mispellings in the manual? Me and the OP must be the only one, huh?

Yup

I was just giving the OP a hard time. I think his post may have been a hit and run.

I'll take a pic when I'm home from work but I'm not talking far down, just what you can see even without trying once you take the stylus out. I'm not digging for problems here it's was just an unexpected sight.

Exactly, sometimes you want to square off and get a good peak before inserting anything. You could bend your S-Pen or even get it stuck for crying out loud.

is the xperia z really this easy to bend?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNF14T5o-8E
That's because of the type of glass used for the case.
It needs to be flexible so it doesn't shatter easily.
I think it's actually pretty cool.

I don't know maybe someone with a XZ can test it
what a bend!
but will it affect the chips inside the phone or weaken the phone structure?
seems like just a little force is needed to bend it, most people put their phone in the pant's pocket, its gonna bend easily whenever we move since the phone is quite huge
Hmm if it is really that flexible, than you are pretty safe when you drop the phone, it wil just spread the shock over the whole chasis.

EDIT: Not worth watching actually, it's a pretty lame 'shock test'. Highlight being the rep saying that the screen will "remain calm" when banged about.

i have my xperia Z here and it really bends similar to the video. But i don't see it as a negative point, because it is really shatterproof because of that.

[Q] Is my HTC One defected ? Please have a look

Hi Guys ;
I have just bought a HTC One but I notice there is a slight gap between the aluminium part and the plastic body in both top and bottom front of the phone. is it a defect ? or is it the same for everyone ? I would appreciate if you take a look at pictures and tell me how it compares to your HTC One.

hi,
i think its fairly common to a varying degree. Mine is pretty much exactly the same both top and bottom. At the moment it doesn't bother me as it is only a samll gap but i certainly would return mine if it started to get any worse. One of my friends has a one and it is horrific, especially around the usb port and another friend who has the one has no gaps whatsoever. So its a bit of a lottery. If it bothers you then i would return it, if you can live with it then enjoy.
Mine has a very tiny opening like yours on the top and my screen is raised a little bit. I've decided not to worry about it unless it gets worse because from what I've searched these are fairly common build quality issues. It's likely that you'll receive another one with some sort of issues.
Welcome to the party, pal:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197732
Its really only a defect cause HTC tried to make the entire phone gapless and advertised it as such.
Unfortunately, unlike the main aluminum body where the plastic was injected and molded into it, the top and bottom speaker grilles are simply glued on.
Like others have said, its a lottery. Go exchange it if you want. But if you can deal with it and there arent other major issues, just keep it.
For me, my first one had a gap, which didnt bother me, but it had some bad overhang and a recessed power button. So I exchanged it.
New one has a tiny overhang, tiny gap, and proper power button. I'm keeping it.

People have claimed it also worked for the speaker grills.
Someone said to aim the blow dryer in to the gap, let it get hot, clamp it down....They said that the adhesive for the grills will get soft and after I think 9 days they said the gap is still closed. Someone even stuck theirs in the fridge after to harden the glue after. Forget if they were fixing the screen lift or gaps. Could be in another thread where I read it...Sticking it in the fridge is a little too nuts for me...lol

Don't let these OCD freaks tell you your phone looks ugly, those gaps are pretty much on 90 percent of the phones. It has no bearing on how your phone operates.

For those with gaps on your One,

Do you think the speaker grill will pop off in the future? I just realized mine has quite a gap, you can slide a paper in.
But I don't want to resort to warranty since I have already been using it for a month plus, and got stuff working and all.
The grill I have in question is the bottom one.
I don't know how strong the glue supporting the bottom grill is.

Wow how did you managed to get the glue inside the gap? I mean I know it's quite a gap, but I don't think it's THAT wide to be able to squueze glue in..
Are the gaps really that much of a concern? I have a bit of a gap on the top speaker grill, but I have a case on the phone too. I don't even notice it now. I'm more concerned about the durability of "Gorilla Glass." I've had 3 iPhones now and I've never scratched my screen. I've owned the HTC One for a month and I've got two scratches already...

For me it's more of a durability thing. I'm just afraid it will pop out from the glue losing it's strength in the future.

It might work if you have someone else hold it upside down and you're REAL careful.

[Q] Hardware identification: What the heck did I break off?

While removing the battery cover from my Sprint HTC One M7, I inadvertently broke a connector from the bottom of the logic board.
In the included picture, I placed an arrow in the direction of where the part is SUPPOSED to be and placed another M7 below it, so that you could see what the original piece looked like.
Can anyone help me identify it? And is the logic board salvageable?
Whatever help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the input!
Can anyone verify his assumption? And if so, is it fixable?
It's definitely a contact of some kind, likely antenna but hard to tell without seeing the other side of the body. You should be able to fix it by just bridging the connection if there is any of the pad left on the board; use copper wire, copper foil, or even aluminum foil if you want to be janky.

Its definitely a contact point for the antenna as the whole aluminium unibody serves as an antenna. If you are good at soldering and have the proper tools (precision soldering iron, magnifying lamp...) Go for it. But it should not be much of a problem if one is missing, there are three of them for the same purpose. You can also take it to a professional electronics repair and have them solder it back.
The last one is what I really encourage you to do. :good:

Doesn't seem like cracks. Looks like fusing of plastic and aluminum was not perfect, but nothing to worry about.

HOWEVER, for yours second picture about the tooth (red circle). Yes you are missing 3 right there
mine is also like yours and the others, i think i normal because everybody have it
Well.. called my Local Phone shop and will receive a new back cover. But the cracks.. it should not crack and I think it is a HUGE design flaw.. even more so when more note 4's have the same cracks. A 780+ euro should not crack! Dont get me wrong.. I love the note 4.. And maby there is a little samsung fan boy with in me, but this, I just can not accept this.
I wouldn't call that a crack, it's at the point where metal frame is molded onto plastic chassis, I'd say it's expected to split due to the heat and etc.
Everyone has that on the bottom I think it's normal

Again, you do know that, that plastic and the metal frame are one piece? They don't come apart. In the process of fusing plastic to the aluminum, there are some tolerances, especially considering that it is under the cover.
When you say crack, one assumes, it developed after the purchase. I would probably assume you bought it like that.
And no, all back covers are supposed to be like that.
Just return your phone please. Thanks.

Dude. You're just bumping thread to try to stay relevant. It is normal, it is hidden under cover, and has no bearing on the look and function of the phone. Does not get worse. Give it a rest. Replace your freakin phone already. Sell it. Throw it in a garbage.
Btw if you started disassembling body of most of the products, I bet you'll find imperfections that are not detrimental and are generally not visible until disassembled.
