GIFs in MMS messages - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't get GIFs I receive via texts to play in the stock message app, Google Messenger, or by saving them. It worked fine with my Note 4. Any setting or workaround I'm missing?

Group messages in ICS?

I'll admit that I don't use group messages or MMS (just regular text messages), so this one has me baffled.
I can send and receive regular individual text messages just fine. No problems there.
However, my supervisor, who is using an iPhone, sends out group text messages. Those come to me as 1K MMS messages (with a "Download" button in GoSMS Pro, or a "Downloading..." icon in stock Messaging). When I click on the "Download" icon in GoSMS Pro, it just sits and spins ad infinitum, and never turns into a message.
How do I get incoming group text messages to display properly?
Is this an APN issue, a messaging client issue, or a system setting issue?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] .GIF Support

Are there any Android text messaging applications that enable the sending of .gif files? I have tried multiple applications including Handcent, GoSMS Pro, 8sms, and Hangouts. Any of those applications are able to receive .gifs but none can send them via text.
All my Google search results simply return hits for the new version of Hangouts which only sends gifs via the chat protocol.
I'm running a T-Mobile X fully updated.
One last try to see what solutions everyone else is using.
Hangouts and them as well.

As I stated in the opener Hangouts only works via the g chat function.

Hangout notifications not working

Is anyone having a problem with Hangouts? I am not receiving notifications when someone tries to chat with me. SMS come through and notify fine, but Hangout messages do not load or notify until I open the app.
Not had that problem, but Hangouts will force close on me from time to time until I clear it's cache or reboot the device. I really wish it wasn't an uninstallable system app.
I don't receive a notification if I'm on data unless I go into the app. I only get it when on WiFi. I had the same issue on my nexus 5 though.

Question Origin OS Ocean Google Messages

I have debloated my phone and replaced the Chinese apps with Google apps. Notifications work without any problem. I knew going into this that I wouldn't be able to use Android Auto, Google Backup, and 'Hi Google' voice activation for Google Assistant, but I've run into a snag with the Google/Android Messages app. I can send and receive text messages, but when I try to send a picture it just says "sending" and I eventually get a system notification that my message could not be sent. This happens whether I have RCS Chat enabled or turned off in the Google Messages app settings. In both the Google Messages settings and my Vivo system settings I have enabled "allow MMS messages". I know that MMS uses Mobile Data only, so I tried sending a picture with the phone's WiFi turned off thinking the phone was trying to send the pictures by WiFi rather than Mobile Data, but they still won't send. I have installed an uninstalled the app, gone into Recovery Mode and cleared the cache partition, but the problem persists. If I reinstall the default Vivo Messages app the pictures send instantly. Can anyone think of a reason why I can send SMS but not MMS in Google Messages?

Hi Craig. You know that I face the same problem. One of my friend is working in Vivo France. I contacted Vivo China to expose the problem with google message. They find something and they told him that they are going to push an update soon with a patch for google message. ✌✌✌✌✌✌
Thank you for staying on top of this!

Question Google Messages notifications do not appear on watch!

I had the Watch 4 pro and now the Watch 5 pro and have experienced the same issue. I'm using a Galaxy S22 ultra phone as well. I do not get notifications/alerts on my watch when I get text messages to my default text messaging app, Google Messages. I have received a notification only 2 times. Both times I had sent a text with my phone while at work with bad service, and the message wont send. I then get notified on my watch that the text didn't send. And at that point, and text messages that come through will vibrate on my watch until while that original notification is there. Does anyone have my insight as to whether this is a known issue with Google Messages and the Galaxy Watches? I have all the proper notification settings in place. Its not a deal breaker enough for me to go back to the stock messaging app, but it would be nice to get Google Messages to work properly with the notifications! Both the phone and watch are regularly updated.
