I am unable to add text when I select a picture to send in messaging. It only gives me the option to add the picture and then send it. Is anyone else having this issue? Also, if this is a known issue is there a way to resolve it?

You just tap right below the picture and add whatever text you want. Just tried it and works fine.

Are you even doing this on a Note 5? It doesn't give you that option. Maybe you don't understand the OP's question. He's talking about sending a picture message. You can't send any text with the picture. Using the stock messaging app.
It could also be because of carrier. I have T-Mobile.

I figured it out. It will let you do it if you do it BEFORE you pick the recipient.

After you pick your recipient it will go into that existing thread (if you already have one started)
But on an existing group chat, I can't figure out how to do it without starting a new one.

Yes I have the AT&T note 5 and I can add text just like in your picture whether I go into an existing thread or start a new one. Just tried with my daughter and works fine here.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
This is correct. Always been that way, not just Note 5. You add text at bottom of picture (s).
Bryyyan, thank you for your help. This was so frustrating all day. People are posting the Note 4 was like this. No, it wasn't. I still have my Note 4 and now have the Note 5. I don't understand why you have to leave the recipient blank in order to add text. Also, as a result you can not go into the gallery and add the photo from there, as it forces you to pick a recipient then. You have to go into messages, click on blank message, and then add pic, then text. Super inconvenient. Thanks again!!

On the T-Mobile note 5 as soon as you select the picture it automatically sends unless the recipient is left blank like above.

I also have T-Mobile and I am able to send text with my pictures. I posted earlier in this thread two different ways to do it.
I have a note 5 and after reading this thread, I went and clicked on Phone >> Settings >> Voice over LTE Settings >> Selected Do not use VoLTE and now I can attach a picture message and then have the option to add text before sending.
Here is also an article of what the purpose of VoLTE is: ww w. an droidcentral.com/ volte-how-use-it-and-why-you-should
I think it is a version issue. I know of a guy who used Verizon (know think) who could not as text if he already had the recipient picked.
I have a note 5 and when i try to attach a pic to a text it only gives option to send, not attach, which sends photo without picture. When in gallery, choosing share in text message, it forces me to choose a contact, then sends pic without giving me the chance to write a text. Very frustrating!

Why would you want to do that?
If you read what it does you will understand that you can read listen to your voicemail in the order of importance. That is you can select which messages to listen to first instead of listening to 40 messages to get to an urgent one.
It's a feature of the network though, so until it becomes available on your network it won't work regardless of the software.

Same Type of service
There is a service I use from "YouMail.com" . This is how it works.
1. Signup for the service. (FREE and No Advertisements)
2. verify the account.
3. Forward all unanswered calls to their Voice Mail number.
( *004*THEVOICEMAILNUMBER*11# on cingular . I purposely removed the number to idiot proof it.)
4. You have the option to get SMS notification or Emails regarding the message and which number it was left from.
5. You also have the ability to personalize voicemail for numbers that you know. For eg. I have a huge list for my personal contacts where I have personal greetings for each person.
6. If a chick annoys you, you can add her number and mark it as DITCH mail. and She will get the message. . I have used this one 2wice already .
7. You can hear the voicemail via the web or via the regular way of dial/hold 1 or Voicemail in cingular phones.
BTW: Not a PPC Application.
.
February 15th I posted this in the Wizard forum (as it's not related to Upgrading) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294272
I used it for a couple of daze until I realized that, even though it's "free", it's using my minutes. So, long story short, I noticed that I had LOTS of calls to a Nevada number.....
Worked pretty good though. It replaced my Cingular voice mail and intercepted all my calls so I got emails notifying me of missed calls and my voice mails came in emails with the phone number in the subject and the voice mail as a wav attachment.
The minutes scared me so I canceled the service....

Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to text for free on a g1. I cant afford a texting plan so I need a free alternative for the phone. I know google voice is one but they still haven't started the service for free. Its only by invites. Like on the iphone there is a way but I dont know for g1. Are we charged to use google talk on the g1 with wifi connected? Please let me know.
Thank You
OF COURSE!!!!
Not MANY use it, but I used to before I got GOOGLE VOICE.
its called EMAIL!!! its almost just as quick to receive as a text...
For A List Of Carrier email addresses do a google search or go to the carriers website.
EXAMPLE:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
yup, the only tricky thing about using the email method is you have to know exactly which network all of your contacts are on. it's good because they can still text and reply to you and you can receive it later in email archives.
you can also text through IM apps. put all of your contact numbers in as buddies into a mobile group. then just send texts that way. the downside is, if u are not connected to the IM service you wil not get any texts.
both good alternatives with pros/cons. but free assuming you have wifi or unlimted data.

If you have a business phone number to enter into contacts, it seems that Phone search function will not find that entry without a person entered into the contact info.
Sometimes you don't have a name of a person - just a company or government office to contact. If you enter the name of the company (under "Add organization" as you should) and phone number (under "Phone"), when you search for the company name using the Phone's search function, it does not appear in the Phone search results.
The same error happens if you search for a word in the address fields (in case you just remember the street of a contact and search for the street name).
The Phone search function should search ALL fields of your contacts. You may only remember a street name, city, first name, last name or whatever. You should see all Contact entries that contain the word (or partial term) that you search for.
Now I know full well that people are people and that people make mistakes. But, even raising this as a bug over at the Android forums isn't getting any attention from Google. Why would Google (of all companies) ignore such a basic search bug?
I am using Nexus 4 with 4.2.2 installed. I'd be very interested in knowing if this bug affects other Android handsets as well.
That's Contact information, not Phone information. Try searching Contacts.
^^^what this person said, I just did an address search in contacts and it pulled up the proper contact^^^
Also take into account that the search feature had to be changed due to apple playing patent pansies so google had to redo how they did the search. This could have been a side effect of this.

That makes no sense whatsoever. All Contacts are viewable in your Phone app by clicking on the Contact symbol in the upper right corner of the phone.
The Contact list and the Phone contacts are the SAME LIST. There are not separate lists for Phone and People apps.
Searching for a contact (whether in the Phone app or Contact app) should search all contact text - no matter the field.

What if you only remember the last 4 digits of the number?
I'm just saying that searching for a person/phone number from the Phone app should search every field in every contact entry on your phone.
The one exception that I might see would be to exclude all contacts with no phone number information. After all, what is the phone app going to do with a contact with no phone number? The only possible purpose for the phone to pull up contacts with no phone number would be to add a manually dialed number (or a new number shown by an incoming call) to an existing contact, and it already includes "Add to contact" in it's menu options.
This should be simple. Contacts are text files. NOT searching the whole text file or each contact just doesn't make sense.
I just wish I could get the attention of someone at Google. So far, still nothing after reporting the bug in the Android forums.

You're right, I just did some testing and it is a mess... MightyText having problems too.
i got this problem but i managed it to fix it by editing sim card phone number.
if you go to settings - about device - status, is it showing unknown under my phone number?
if yes then you'll need a rooted phone to fix this (at least that's how i did it). download app call simeditor on play store. follow the instructions then reboot.

In regards to making Hangouts your default messaging is there a way to define which number the text is being sent from if you have a Google # and your own cell phone number tied to your account? Had this problem on my Note 3 and not sure want to use Hangouts if I can't change my sending # to my cell phone number.
Tried going into settings but couldn't find anything.....

Crap that sucks. I haven't tested it but the settings doesn't have group messaging option either so for sure there is no way to enable it. In comparison the image below is from my note 3. There's no such option in the note 3 messaging setting.

OK I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT! CAN YOU GUYS TEST.
Add 2 or more recipient
Then hit the menu options (3 dots on top right)
Click "Add subject"
A subject line will show up
Type a subject. In my example as soon as I typed "Q"
I saw a pop up that says "converting to multimedia message"
Finish your subject line
Now send the message
Now if you delete the text in the subject line you will see a pop up that says "converting to text message". This way will only send as individual texts. So a subject line seems necessary to make it an mms group text.
Somewhat similarly on my note 3, if I add 2 recipients, automatically the convert to mms shows up. No extra step.
And when I remove one of the two so I'm only left with 1 recipient, then it goes back to regular text.

I finally got to put my Sim and restore my phone and fully test it and this is now what I get when I have 2 or more recipients. I'm not sure why I didn't have this option when I didn't have the Sim card in.

I have this exact Issue. Was just going to make a new thread. If Wi-Fi is on it wont work. As soon as you turn it off it goes through. Its supposed to toggle 4g to download the messages. Weird. Anyone else having this issue ?
Only way I was able to solve this was to install Textra. In the settings section, there is a section that is especially for T-Mobile users, I.e. temporarily turn off Wi-Fi when an mms arrives.
I was using adblock plus with the proxy server settings on my WiFi connection, since uninstalling adblock everything is working properly.

I decided to use the new ISIS ready SIM card and I'm back to the other way where I have to add a subject to make it a group MMS. So if you are planning to use the new one just keep this in mind. I don't need ISIS payment and luckily I had an older unactivated sim card and once I activated it and used it, the "Group conversation" box was there again.

When Hangouts is enabled for SMS, you should see a menu appear in the same settings area when you enable SMS. Send SMS from. You can change the default number there.
I saw the other thread on reading aloud the SMS when connected to your vehicles Bluetooth and though I'd share mine for those who want to be able to respond by voice commands. I'm not trying to upstage that author, but giving other options.
Steps:
1. Wait 2.5 seconds to allow your text message tone to complete
2. Read sender and message body
3. Wait 1 second
4. Ask if you would like to reply
5. If "yes", it will ask you what you want to reply
6. Send message recorded by voice
I've uploaded the profile which includes the Task required for this to function.
You will need to edit the Profile "State" section to select the Bluetooth name in your vehicle. To do this, tap on the Profile and select the "State" that says "Connected to _____". Once in here, delete the one I've got selected and select the Bluetooth you want to activate this part of the Profile.
Hopefully this is useful to someone. Let me know if you have questions.

I'm having that problem too. I just tested it out in my car and I love this task but when it ask me do you want to reply I say yes but I'm looking at my phone and it says could not recognize. Is there anyway to fix this?
Also I had my music playing from my phone when I was testing the text. Does the text when read come from the phone speakers or the car speakers because it sounds really soft. Is there a way to make the voice text louder?

How can I modify this to speak other notifications, like from Google Voice or Hangouts messages? And not through BT, just when the phone is used normally.

Never mind, figured it out.
Thank you for this! I will give it a try....I missed the reading of txt messages function from Cortana coming from a windows phone.
Is there any way to get the this task to listen for a response from my android wear watch? If my phone is in my pocket I can't reply and that defeats the purpose..
Apparently it only reads SMS. Is it possible to have it read WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc?

Try this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CALWGiG0wJo
It worked for me for the Google Voice app.
I like this task, but I can't get it to listen to my responses. So it reads each text that I receive only, but then when the prompt comes up to say "do you want to reply" it doesn't recognize anything I say.

I love this!
I do have a question, is there a way to have the reply message read back to me to confirm the dictation is correct before sending and if it's incorrect to ask to create a new reply?
Wont read through bluetooh
my car wont read this through my bluetooth even though im connected. Is it because my honda doesnt support A2dp?
