Hello Everyone.
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post, although have been reading and applying a lot of knowledge you guys have! the forum is great!
Anyway, I have an unlocked HTC TyTN II, everything worked fine and I overall very satisfied with the device...
I made a foolish thing! I installed the "Wefi" utility and after playing with it for a little while, I didn't like the thing.. so, I decided to uninstall it.. however, now I find that my kaiser cannot longer connect automatically to my wireless networks after resume.. Now I only get the notification that it has found available wireless networks and, even though I chose not to show the message anymore, it does it every time, and when it does not, the phone doesn't connect to my WiFi.. so I need to do it manually... which is very annoying..
I already restored original registry keys under HLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms with no luck so far...
What can I do?... I'm still on the original WM 6.0, have not loaded any ROM changes yet..
Your help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Oscar
Fix for auto connect problem after removing WeFi
My name is Galia Finkelstein and I work at the support desk at WeFi. This doesn't happen anymore on the new version that's been released so for the older version we have a version fix for the problem with the automatic connection, just run this file and you should be good to go http://wefi.com/static/RestoreZCAutoConnect.exe
If I can assist with anything else please drop me a line at [email protected].
WeFi post-uninstall problems
Hi!
I am sufferring from the same problems as "obadillo" - see above.
I downloaded and installed the latest version of WeFi, but after a couple of days of use, I found that I didn't like it, and it also took up too much of my valuable "today" screen space.
After uninstalling, I found that firstly, all my previous wi-fi settings had been lost (WEP keys for my home network, my work network etc etc), and secondly, even after re-enterring these details, my device (HTC Touch UK Version - Orange UK) - (running WM6 Pro) refused to auto-connect when I switch the WiFi on.
After reading the reply from Galia (directly above my post), I downloaded and ran the executable, but found that it made no difference.
Any ideas anyone? I did email Wefi's support email address, but as yet have received no reply.
Thanks in advance!
I have also tried this fix with no success (running WM5). I have also sent an email to wefi support. No response. I would recommend you stay away from this software.
We-Fi Latest Version
I have found a (kind of) solution! I have installed the latest version of We-Fi (downloaded from their website), and then DEselected it in my Today programs. So even though its not in use, its wifi parameters still overrule the PPCs local params. This seems to allow me to switch on and off WiFi WITHOUT using the WeFi software, and it now autoconnects, even with the several wireless networks I have stored, whenever I switch WiFi on, it may take a few seconds to connect, but it now does every time.
Not the greatest "solution", but at least the problem is partially solved.
But as the good man above says, unless you're VERY sure you want to install WeFi, do not install, because you will lose ALL preexisiting WiFi connections and settings etc..
Have a good one!

Hello again, XDA devs!
I also had the problem and I'm struggling with Amir, some guy from the WeFi staff, to get the problem solved or at least recognized.
I left a complete description on my blog with links to people having problems. Here's the article (without links):
Before you consider installing WeFi on your Windows Mobile device, you might want to read this cautiously and save yourself some problems.
If you have not yet tried it, you're not missing much. Although promising, the app takes over your device. It controls your today screen, messes up your wi-fi parameters and some rarer stability issues were also reported.
First, the app needs .Net CF v.2.0, something that takes space and puts more useless crap on your device. Then the app doesn't just find networks and connect to them. Instead it overrides your wi-fi parameters and inserts its own code, thus the uninstallation problems. WeFi also takes a lot of your today screen's estate for basically nothing. How much screen space? Take a look.
Upon uninstalling it, many noticed their devices stopped automatically connecting to wireless networks, among other, rarer problems. The only known fix to the problem is to hard-reset your device and to stay the **** away from this app. We also saw a link to a .exe file somewhere but no one left feedback about it so we assume it's just as good as WeFi. You might also reinstall it, hide it and use it to take care of the wi-fi stuff or go in Settings>Connections>Wi-Fi everytime to select a network to connect to.
The developers were quick to comment about the problem and said they are working on it (see the first comment to this post). However their product page doesn't mention the problem yet and people still get caught. I left them feedback about *some* of the concerned device, assuming it's not all of them, hoping for a change. Feel free to do the same and put some pressure on these guys too.
You might also read one of those threads and see for yourself.

I'm trying to get the warning to reach all the download spots, if you guys feel like helping. This is just unacceptable, let's do something about it!
Haim head of WeFi Windows Mobile development team here
Hello all,
First, let me assure you all that we are doing our best to solve any user problem as quickly as possible.
Out of the thousands of mobile users we have, there are really only a few users who complained about this problem.
We released a fix that you can find in: http://www.wefi.com/download/client/RestoreZCAutoConnect.exe
which after executing and doing soft reset should solve the problem.
As our support team explained to “primemaps” via e-mails (sent in 08/07) this fix only works if you uninstall WeFi first.
What you are all describing is that ZeroConfig stopped auto connecting.
By avoiding the manipulation of ZeroConfig default timeouts in our next version (which should be released in about 2 weeks from now), this should not happen anymore.
If this does not help you or you have encountered any other problem – please send me an email to [email protected] and I promise a fast response,
it would help if you mentioned your WeFi version, Device model and ActiveSync version.
I hope you would all choose to install our next version and enjoy the many benefits it can bring you.
Haim
Can't work with it and can't work without it
With my HTC TyTN II I had similar problems as others have described, or maybe even worse: I could no longer work to any wireless networks. It would disconnect in less than one second every time.
I did a hard reset and that didn't work!
I also tried the "fix" the WeFi representative suggested but that didn't help at all either.
What finally helped me was Namwollem's solution: Install WeFi again and removed it from the Today screen (but kept it installed).
I can't help wonder if WeFi changes something in the ROM since a hard reset didn't even fix it.
One of these days I will have to install the ROM all over and see if it makes a difference, but I wish I could avoid that!
I hope others won't be stupid like me and install this #$%[email protected]#&$ software!
Nothing helps for my Diamond to restore Wifi signal
I have Htc diamond with newest Rom downloaded from htc.com.
My problem is that since i installed aplication WEFI(older version) and uninstalled it, i cannot see ANY available wifi networks.. I tried alot of things. I tried soft reset, hard reset, i installed WEFI (newest version) , in moments wifi works and shows available networks and i can connect, but after it doesnt work again.. I would say it shows networks only ocasionally(even if im always surrounded by at least 10 hotspots). I installed newest Rom again, i installed old official ROM, i always put mamximum performance instead of battery, and still i have no results/cannot see ANY available networks). I have a feeling like i really have a hardware problem with wifi now..But again i think whatever it is its caused by this aplication WEFI. Does anylone have any ideas? i saw some Rafael radio ROM , maybe i can try to install that?
Thanks
AArrrggghh!
This god-awful program rears its ugly head again! I have solved the problem totally now by getting a new handset!! Now I have my Touch HD (Blackstone), one thing I WILL NOT do is install this garbage!! A quick search thru the forums here will reveal a small and very useful program which will with one click switch-on WiFi (and auto connect to the signal it finds if stored in your preferred networks) and with another click will switch WiFi off! Its called AKWifiToggle, and while no where near as fancy as WeFi, IT WORKS and DOESN'T MUCK UP YOUR PHONE!!!
Hi there,
I've searched (if I missed something please point me in the right direction!) but I can't find anything here about this issue. My Kaiser has recently stopped receiving wifi signals. I can turn the wifi on and off, but the 'no signal' tower icon appears and no networks appear in any of the screeens. I've tried a soft reset, a hard reset and even flashing a new rom (it wasn't a rom flash that killed it), but no joy. Any ideas before I delve into HTCs warranty program?
Thanks
Rik
"i've searched" it started becoming standard phrase to open new thread, our mods appreciate that
back to point - try :
try to play with the settings of the wifi (mainly the power one) shift it to best performance instead best power managment
try an ad-hoc (use ur labtop if you know what i mean if not just skip this ad hoc test)
try to flash a stocked ROM
if your experiments with above failed - we can be pretty sure that its hardware failure (need to send device to repair/exchange) so make sure the stocked ROM test is the last test (just in case)
best luck mate
if you dont get any luck

Hi all,
First of all thanks for all the tips I've found here.
I've got this problem. I have unchecked the "Turn on available network notification" checkbox in the settings->connections->wifi menu but these notifications are still raising at the today screen. Even when I hit "Don't show this message again" button it is still notificating me about available wifi networks.
Can you please tell where is the registry key for this, so that I'll check it if it's really turned off?
Thanks & Regards,

yes, it is weird. wi-fi is a battery hog, i prefer much more using GSM/3G/HSDPA.

Yup I got this issue too - I was just searching to see if anyone posted about it before starting a new post myself.
I hadn't known about the setting in the WiFi menu so have set that now but I must have selected the "Don't show this message again" option about 3 times per day for weeks now!
There must be someway to stop this without having to deactivate WiFi.
I logged on tonight, to make a post asking about that. as couldnt find anything via searching. I'm glad i'm not the only person its annoying.
If i wanna connect to a network, i know how to find available wifi's. I dont need to be notified about loads of secured networks which i will never connect too. Being told only of unsecure ones, that would be more handy.
Driving in small towns it often finds several at the same time from neearby houses
I too have this problem.
I tick the option saying "do not notify" and yet I still get the pop ups when driving through town
I have an XDA Ignito with original ROM, if it makes a difference
still nothing, does this only bother / effect us few people? Just flashed device to another ROM (dutty's) and it still does it on that too.
I have the same issue and I hate it (It works untill a soft reset though!)!
Other issue I have is that is also displays all the sim contacts....after a reboot the setting is and all sim contacts are displayed again
its a problem with all versions of wm.
sim contacts problem is the case with wm6.1
Hello all,
Here's the problem. When I go to activate the wifi through comm manager, the button turns off, sometimes it hangs (clock showing) for 6 seconds, sometimes pressing over and over it will not turn. it will turn on for a .5 sec then go right off. At the times when it does turn on, the button below (GPRS or data..I think) will come on as well. There's a big "E" with the signal to the right, and then the little "e" on the top of the today screen will start bugging out with 2 small arrows on it I guess searching for a gprs connection..and a message saying the following:"connecting to media.net" or "connecting to att isp GPRS, connecting to ATT 3g" and "wap.cingular..cannot connect for unknown reason..yada yada yada" the popup messages drive me crazy I want to smash the phone to the floor. but no wifi.
My account has neither gprs or 3G and i'm sick and tired of it searching for it. I click the dismiss/hide button but it just comes right back on bombarding me with these popup messages over and over. Once in a while it will turn on but for a short time to the point it won't connect to the wifi spot, and over and over we go. Skyfire gives me "can't connect to server", and opera comes up, but by the time it does, the wifi button turn off. It's not even getting to the point of connecting to the coffee place. why is it looking for GPRS when all I want is free wifi? All I want to do is check my email once in a while. I live overseas by the way. I did do a clean restart many times but it doesn't fix the problem. I won't flash a new rom as I'm a bit worried so please to offer/recommend. The phone never fell to the floor so I don't think it's the issue. Anyway to configure it to stop searching for GPRS/3G? maybe I did something wrong in the kaiser tweak settings..?
This is an att phone ROM 1.57.502.2 ROM date 8/25/07 RADIO 1.27.12.11
PROTOCOL 22.45.88.07H
I've had the phone for about 2 years and the last 8 months or so it's given me the problems listed. I never took the time to deal with it, but I'm just fed up to the point I will never buy an HTC device again if I can't solve the problem.
any help appreciated..
BTW, on the right side of the phone the crack (between the screen and keyboard) is unusually large and has some play to it. Even though I hardly ever use the
keyboard/sliding mechanism.
Also, nice look to the forum. A much needed overhaul IMO.
Help please...
I have a similar issue, and I am blaming the age of the device for it's inability to connect to my wireless network at home. At work, it has no bother as the wireless gear is of a higher spec.
wow thats a lot of information in just 3 paragraphs! what i'm trying to say is that you've described the situation well but you haven't mentioned any steps you've taken to try to solve the problem.
first, if you don't pay for a data connection (3G, GPRS, etc), then you can disable the data connection using "modaco nodata". essentially, this will disable the data connection so that the phone never attempts to use it.
next, you need to clarify how long it has been since you last performed a "hard reset". if it has been ages since the last hard reset, back up all your data (messages, contacts, call history, photos, videos, music, etc, etc) and give that ***** a hard reset!
what the above will accomplish is TWO things:
1. it will reset the device and its software to "factory condition", hence the need to back up all your data and to be prepared to reinstall all your programs and settings and configurations.
2. more importantly, the hard reset will help rule out or confirm the possibility of a hardware failure.
lets talk more about number 2 above. if the problem is purely software related (windows has gone bad/corrupt, some registry settings are bad/corrupt, etc, etc), then hard resetting will fix it certainly. if the problem stems from a hardware issue, then the problem will persist after the hard reset.
thus, the hard reset step will direct you and the rest of us in a definite direction to try to solve the problem.
if you have already tried a hard reset, you should update your first post to reflect this fact. it is good practice to give as much information as possible if you need help troubleshooting an issue.
do let us know what happens and good luck!

Hi, I was just curious if anyone on here has ever got this message when trying to turn on the hotspot. I use straight talk with verizon towers. I have looked on line for a fix and have found forums with people who have the same problem and no one can seem to figure out if it is a phone problem or a carrier problem. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm having this same problem. Did you find a solution?

I tried having straight talk do some things to try and fix it but they just made it worse. I went to Visible and it works fine now.
I was able to get mine working by Settings / System / Reset options / Reset
Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth / then reboot phone. It wiped out all my settings for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Pain in the butt but, they are easy enough to add back. Hotspot is working though.
both my and my wife's phone, resetting APN & network settings has had no impact.
We're both on Pixel 7 Pro btw, just found your thread via search.
