Hello,
after removing alot of bloatware from the phone (LG stuff and killing some more apps & widgets)
i get roughly 163M free (after whatsapp, email, adv. task killer )
i am running on stock ROM
what are the numbers that you are getting?
i saw several people with 230M and 200 as well.
how can i get more available memory besides freeze and un-install?
It really doesn't matter, if you need more than you have free, Android will free some up for you.
yeh but i want to understand how it actually works and to remove all the rest of the bloatware from the phone.
since i still think that there are alot of things that arent required for standard operation.
Linux based OS like Android usually keep a lot of apps in memory, and if necessary free the memory for other apps, so it 's not the real problem I think.
The real issue is that some apps runs in background and use radio connection to connect to servers, to verify updates etc, and that drains battery and take CPU time. For example if you have stock firmware, and have some apps installed by your phone provider, or so.
Alternative MODS are free from those bloatwares, and even in stock ROMS if you are rooted you can use Root App Remover to uninstall stock apps that are not necessary.
You can for example try some apps like GO Launcher or Titanium Back UP to freeze the desired apps and prevent them to run in background. Make some tests o see if there is a real difference, I think most of the time it's mainly a psychological issue ;-)
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation i have removed most of the stock apps and installed adv task manager to kill the rest but still how come people here on the forums got 230mb memory when i can only reach 180-160?

Because they use other hacks aswell ( disabling the OTA feature, using some ram reserved for the GPU as memory, etc)

Can you recommend some apps or give some links?

but be careful with LG Home or LG Launcher... if you don't have a replacement launcher, you will screw up your rom...
Thanks a lot i was looking for that quite hard but i probably missed it

I've noticed this during general use on my phone. Normally when using Twitter or Facebook.
Quite often I will go to use the app and find i've been logged out. I'm guessing the OS killed the app to free up memory for something else.
What I get annoyed with is some apps that Autostart on Bootup when there's no obvious reason why they would need to. (BBC iPlayer etc) This Just takes up memory when it doesn't need to
I've never been logged out of Twitter and/or Facebook... closing the app wouldn't log you out anyway, that's something else altogether.
I got the same issue with skype although its not supposed to logout it does even though he runs in the background
Strange right ?

I hate the new market is it possible to delete it and install the old market if so could someone please help me
Sent from a happy phone using XDA Premium App
Not sure what set up u have on your phone. But what i did was freeze "market updater" with Titanium Backup and re-installed the old market.

^^^ right, but you have to have the pro version of tibu in order to freeze,
so if you have the free version make a backup of it and then uninstall it.(market updater that is)
After that go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>market>uninstall updates.
VIOLA!! no new ugly ass windows phone 7 wannabe tiled market!
Is there any good app other than TiBu that can backup apps and data? What can you recommend?

My Backup Pro. Is the best backup app around according to me. In TB you have to go to individual app in the selection and chose. He you can back up every damn thing on the phone with just few steps. And restoring is why too easy.
It has a lite version too. 1 month trial. Trust me..I have used TB before but now I use this is absolutely wonderful

What is the big difference between mybackuppro and mybackuproot?
Do you have to confirm every installation of app like with TB? thats pretty annoying ^^
Is it possible to shedule like saving changes in data or newer version?
Can't go wrong purchasing Titanium Backup Pro !! Well worth it. Plus supporting the Dev as well with the buy.

But you are completely wrong.
If you buy the Pro version of TB, you can batch restore, batch backup, batch delete etc. etc. LOTS of things you can do all at once, like verify all backups, it goes on and on.
Mybackup PRO you have to buy as well and it isn't as nice as TB when it comes to app backup and restore.
But MBP has better functions to save SMS/Contacts/Call Log/APN etc.
TB can only save Wifi, Call log, SMS and one other thing I can't recall.
Titanium Pro is the best app I've ever purchased (twice, actually). But if you are cheap MyBackupPro Root is free.
Useboth TiBu and My backup root. mbr is free, and TiBu pro does a much faster restore than My Backup Root. MBR dies a better job on text messages, etc as previously said.

If you are looking for the best way to keep your data and app info in intact Tibu pro is worth the money in my opinion. For me it's the only way to go when trying to restore and keep my data across different ROMs.

+1 TiBu pro... Well worth the money.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
Well I have restored from Gingerbread to Gingerbread before with no issues.
I backed up with TiBu and tried to go from Gingerbread to ICS and had nothing but headaches. About 60 apps won't install and keep giving me errors such as 'parsing package' etc. and THERE IS NO HELP ONLINE TO SOLVE THIS ERROR.
So I can no longer recommend Titanium Backup.
I would say use multiple backup software BUT DO NOT DEPEND ON TIBU ALONE.
If you haven't bought it, don't, not until they can fix this issue or explain why it happens.
If u restored system apps or system data after going to ics from gb, that would cause issues. Not saying u did...just sayin. Or the apps (some) may not be compatible with ics.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
I did NOT restore system data or system apps.
The apps I'm restoring are compatible, I'm sure of that because some of them are updated and the same version as the market which installs them just fine.
Restoring system data or apps wouldn't cause the package parsing error anyway.
TiBu has some glitches that the developers NEVER fixed and NEVER documented or explained.
So until they can resolve what this package parsing error is, I recommend you either use 2 solutions or stay away from TiBu entirely.
I need a app that can do backups to individual apps titanium backup doesn't worm for me it says insuficient storage and I tried everything, and my backup pro was a waste of money
I've seen threads where people said that their i9000 they have ~200 MB of free available RAM. That's really surprising. Can this be caused by a kernel?
I have around 100 MB of free RAM at most times, running CM10, stock kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
RAM Management is being handled by Android OS. We dont have to do anything about it. See article on AndroidCentral:
http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care
So why it the free RAM memory differs so much? My i9000 has around 100MB of free RAM and other guy's from the forums has like 200MB of free RAM at any time.
It may have something to do with the quantity of apps running in every phone.
Every phone has different apps installed.
I, particularly, do not use synching, wallpapers (live or static), weather apps, music effects, google maps, etc.
I either disabled these apps or froze them to make sure they won't run.
Most of these apps run automatically at phone boot-up, thereby consuming RAM.
You can check in Settings/Apps/Running what applications are mostly running on your phone, then you can try to disable them if you think you don't need them.
How do you freeze the apps and prevent them from starting?
In settings/apps/all apps, select the app you want to disable then disable it. If you have Titanium Backup, you can use it to freeze your chosen apps.

You can use App Quanrantine to freeze the undesired apps. I use it for almost 1 year and it works.

You can increase your ram by installing devil kernel. Then installing devil kennel manager from play store
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Titanium backup or app quarantine are useful to freeze unused apps, but if you use an app you can't freeze it (or you must unfreeze it)
For used apps, you can use Autostarts to disable unwanted run of apps on phone startup, or after other events trigger in the background.
depend on the rom that you are using
Try another kernel with bigmem.
svolacius I've been red that if you have 40 20mb free memory then it is very good for you because phone is using memory properly

Don't use android? Seriously Google Play and the services are what make the OS work.
Right, keep, music, and plus and having multiple instances of the framework are what makes the phone work.... I suppose android system is just there to drain the power, not for any functional reason
Get titanium backup, uninstall what you want

This
If you have root access you should really have Titanium Backup Pro. And if you don't feel comfortable uninstalling certain programs you can freeze them. Does the same thing but instead of uninstalling the program it just hides it from the system as if its not there, and you can always unfreeze it down the road if it causes you problems.
Or flash an AOSP ROM, but you lose Sense. +1 to above for using Titanium Backup. If you're feeling gutsy, you could use a file explorer with root privileges and dive into /system/app, but regardless, you should be careful. Oftentimes, OEM ROMs have Google-specific components actively built into the framework, so take care not to remove anything that kills your phone.
