I have an unlocked (not tied to a carrier) AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900A) that I really want to root. It is running Android 5.0, and the kernel version is 3.4.0-4432708 / [email protected] #1 / Thu Jul 30 14:46:57 KST 2015
I have tried towelroot and One Click Root, and both of them said my phone was not supported. Is there /any/ workaround for this kernel version? If not, is there any ETA for when I might be able to root this phone?
Any ideas or help is appreciated!
If you figure it out let me know. I have paid a phone rooting service and after 4 hours of trying everything they couldnt root it

SRS Root claims via their twitter and website that KOT49H.N900AUCUCNC2 is now rootable as of 1-April. Has anyone tried this method?
Note: This is the OTA update downloaded from AT&T.
If it was rootable, we would be well aware. Can you provide a link?

This is what I found but i'll have to study this a little more. Searching google I haven't found anybody that used this since we got the update and knowing we just got this special bootloader with the 4.4.2 update.
on their site under Last Actions by our Users, it does show someone rooting our device, but who knows... tempting to try maybe

yeah, i just updated it and it changed, but maybe it's just updating to the newest activity? when i saw it it was definitely the KitKat NC2 firmware that was supposedly rooted

Same here. The app says successful but no root on the phone.
Tried to download it... Got this.... FYI
EDIT:
This is possibly part of the method the software uses to gain root access...
I have never heard of this before. Things like this make me nervous. I like recognized XDA developers showing me how to root. Got a screen shot of NC2 being rooted.

Okay, so I've searched and searched and haven't found an answer for this. I have a galaxy s5 I bought from att a while back, I have since unlocked it and switched to t mobile. I'm needing to root it but after I roll back the update with odin (?) then will I be able to upgrade again with the same process? Or is this cross platform fubar not going to work? I need to get my native tethering to work. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Well for starters, a little more info about the phone would be helpful. What are you currently running, firmware version etc.
Looks like 4.4.2 and it's a g900a. It's also been Sim unlocked and the IMEI had been swapped. But everything else is from the factory AT&T.

Read step 5 in the OP you'll see "towel root" that's how you root 4.4.2
Towelroot will work if the kernel is 22 Jul 2014? I though there was a cut off?

If your on 4.4.2 then towel root should work. If it don't then just download the NCE downgrade file from the OP of that same thread and flash using the AP slot in odin 3.09 then use towel root again. I have used that downgrade file and total root numerous times. If your on 5.0 them don't use any of it as it will not work.
---------- Post added at 03:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:20 PM ----------
This is the towel root file that i use. There was like 3 different versions.

Sort of related, but I have an S5 on 4.4.4. I know I will need to downgrade temporally to perform the rooting process (no big deal, I had to do manual tweaking on my DROID 4 during its rooting process), but at this time my phone is unlocked (g900a). Will the process listed in muniz_ri's tutorial ruin the phone's unlocked state? I've never dealt with GSM stuff so this is all new to me.

No. The sim unlock information is in a different partition which is almost never touched by any ROMs.

AT&T S6 Root on OF3
Just got my new Samsung Galaxy S6 with AT&T. Tried PingPong root, to no avail. Here's my info:
SAMSUNG-SM-G920A
Android 5.0.2
G920AUCU2AOF3
Kernel 3.10.61-4823236
Jun 18 2015
Can anyone give me a hand rooting this thing? I saw some posts saying the -OF3 variant isn't rootable, and to downgrade or rebuild the kernel to a previous date.
You have to wait. No root method yet for OF3 or OF4. You can't downgrade either.

The Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge had root, but only on the two earliest builds of the OS. The root exploit was patched after that and because the bootloader remains locked, there is no way to root any newer builds. Verizon phones have never been root friendly. Usually very soon after root is obtained the next OTA disables root permanently.
