UPDATE: 27/11/11
I have started a thread in the development section that contains all this information, please leave any findings or questions there, I believe members will find it more helpful there.
The thread can be found here
I have removed the file links from the OP to stop any confusion in the future. All files can be found in the other thread where it will be maintained and updated (if necessary) in the future.
Thanks for reading.
UPDATE: 27/11/11
Andrew_Low has provided a copy of his stock FROYO backup, which I tested on my tab and confirm that it is working. The kernel is rooted, other than that it is a clean ROGERS rom.
He was also able to capture the GINGERBREAD update, (which I have not tested as of yet, any testers please post your results) this is the stock update available from KIES.
Many thanks to him for this, if it helps you, hit his thank you button[/URL]. If you find this thread helpful as well, hit my thank you button.
Instructions on flashing are not provided. If you need these files it means you know how to flash your device, have flashed a custom ROM previously, and require this to return to a stock state.
Both downloads can be found in the link

Not an easy ROM to find is it?
Anybody ?
Any fresh ROGERS tabs out there???
I just picked up a used Galaxy Tab that has this firmware on it. I'm not new to hacking Android devices, but the Tab is new to me.
I haven't installed Kies yet, but will in a couple of days and can make a backup.
That would be just great, thank you very much, and I assure you that you will be glad that you made a backup for yourself as well in the future (hopefully not though, I don't expect you to have problems or anything like that but you know what I mean).
If possible, can you make the backup before you root the device, otherwise it seems to be a bit of a headache trying to get it un-rooted after the fact.
Many thanks.
EDIT: I guess i'm thinking more of a temp root than a perm root before backup
Sigh, I'm in noobville here with Kies.
Cross booted to Windows XP (I normally use Linux as my desktop) - installed Kies and sorted out USB connectivity.
I don't see where in Kies I can do a firmware backup. The backup just grabs the user data from the device.
It detects my firmware version and offers me the chance to update (which I assume would be a bad idea). Quickly looking on the net, you can 'capture' the firmware files during an update - but that doesn't help grab the version I'm running. Seems there may be a registry hack that lets you install older versions in Kies? If that's true, why can't anyone with a Rogers tab just get the old firmware easily?
Looking for a bit of hand holding.
Oh yeah, and device is bone stock. I'll likely root, unlock and install CyanogenMod - but I'm in no rush. Happy to try to help capture the stock ROM. It may help me out in the future, you never know.
Search for Roto-backup, it is a way to back it up bit by bit. It's a thread by Rotohammer, using his technique members were able to provide UN-ROOTED firmware, which are posted in the dev section. Have a little read see what you think.
The Roto-backup link was helpful, but that requires rooting.
Here's what I've done. Starting with a bone stock, factory reset device. I rooted the device using SuperOneClick 2.2. Sadly I had to run this under Windows to get it to work, mono + Ubuntu didn't seem to work out
I used the default "auto" method of rooting with SuperOneClick, and I did install busybox. In theory - if you really wanted to have an un-rooted stock, you could use the Unroot option of SuperOneClick.
Then I used the roto-backup script. This seems to have worked and I've got a 250MB zip file that I believe contains the stock firmware.
Are you brave enough to test it?
Files were zipped into a single file then split into chunks using RAR to get around upload limits. Grab them from skydrive.
Nice. I have a backup I came across but it's screwy and can't be un-rooted. The root method you used was temporary or perm?, the difference would be one disappears after a reboot.
When I originaly did my backup I used a temp root and came up with a file that I'm pretty sure was about the same size.
Brave you ask? I'm downloading the 3 RARs right now and will check it out.
Many thanks, will flash and tell you how it goes.
Well, Andrew_Low, it worked like a charm. The flash went smooth I will attempt to un-root shortly, and tell you how it went.
Glad it worked. Let me know if unroot via SuperOnClick 2.2 goes ok.
Why do you want non root? Warranty claim?
Slightly off topic, what ROM would you recommend? Seems any AT&T compatible ROM should play ok on the Rogers tab. I'm partial to CM being that's what is on my phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It is for warranty reasons, I have two tabs one was acting up. I did re stock it and sent it back but I wasn't able to un-root so I'll see if it goes through with samsung.
I HAD my stock rom that I somehow deleted (or just misplaced, cause I can't find it anywhere) Then I figured that I am not the only one who may need this, and since it is harder to find, I thought that I would try and help out the P1000R folks by getting a stock rogers rom for those who would like to revert. I was going to wait until I receive my tab back and see what they did to it and maybe have a fresh rogers rom on it to backup. I plan on posting it for members to have.
Our Rogers tabs are great for flashing anything on it really (p1000 related of course). Currently I have BOCA on mine, I had HC RC1 on it previously for a good little bit, and was going to put the ICS alpha build on it, but now since I'm left with one I use it for business purposes and require full functionality out of it. The tab that I sent back had OVERCOME KRATOS on it. Funny enough, this tab is the one that i'm always flashing different roms on and overclocking and plain old abusing it yet it was the other one that crapped out.
I recommend the OVERCOME rom as it is very stable, fast and reliable with almost no bugs. Combined with the bell modem it could also be used for phone calls if necessary. But experiment with any one you want until you find one that suits your needs, I found both my tabs hard to brick so I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. I can't wait for an ICS beta rom to stick on this one.
Cool. I'm interested in a clean stock ROM if one shows up, please post to this thread. I'll try the unroot and see if that works for me.
Open to pointers on how to soft root and capture ROM. Seems feasible, but I didn't find a way to soft root and give me enough to roto backup.

Looking for a clean stock ROM for Rogers as well for warranty work, thanks!
Can't folk use the 2.3 firmware from kies? I haven't tried, but if you flash the rooted UXJJ6 from this thread then use Kies to upgrade to 2.3 you'd be in an unrooted stock state.

Hmm, very interesting. I ran the unroot on my device and it did manage to remove the superuser apk, but beyond that the device appears to still be rooted - busybox is still installed, and when I shell in over adb I get the # indicating root access.
I suspect just removing the superuser app is enough to make it appear 'as stock' - but any expert digging into the device and it's easy to see things are not stock.
If I were to try again - seems zergRush may be the local root you want to use, then from there figure out how to backup the ROM.
[edit] Ooh... reboot and adb has lost the # - I still see busybox installed in /system/xbin/busybox - I suspect this is pretty close to 'stock' if I punt the /system/xbin stuff entirely.
I'm not sure I'm that motivated to chase this further - I can't guarantee it is 100% stock, and it's the same as dl'ing the files I previously uploaded and running SuperOneClick 2.2 unroot + removing the busybox stuff as I specified above. The only mystery here is really what causes adb to have root privs when rooted.
Sweet - appears I was able to grab the ROM from Kies during the 2.3 upgrade - so I've got a copy of the clean/stock Rogers GINGERBREAD.UXKG1 firmware.
Will upload and link here in the next couple of days.
Very sweet, I will post it in the OP for reference.

I will post the Froyo version on the first post for reference, but if you are willing to wait Andrew_Low is generously going to provide a stock rogers Gingerbread rom which I will post for you and others in the OP.
Gingerbread is here https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=61f79860d644cd72&resid=61F79860D644CD72!124
+1 to theREDlegion for cleaning this stuff up and making the thread useful.
I attempted to root my SGS (which had stock Gingerbread Value 2.3.6) using a guide on the Snappyguides blogspot page (the system won't let me, as a newbie, post the URL).
Odin did its thing and then the Samsung Galaxy screen came up (just the white lettering, not the multicoloured animated S) and then... nothing. It just stayed like that for about five seconds, then the white Samsung Galaxy S came up again, then the blank screen ad infinitum.
I can access the download screen and I can access the recovery screen (which does seem to indicate that ClockworkMod v2.5.1.0 has been installed). The trouble is that none of the options seem to do anything.
I have tried searching the forum for similar problems and have read the sticky. The only answers I seem to have been able to find so far suggest flashing a new Rom.
Before I go this far, is flashing a new Rom really necessary in this instance? I have never done this procedure before, so I'm wary of messing things up even further. But obviously if the phone is past the point of no return as far as the stock Rom is concerned, then that'll be what I have to do.
I'd appreciate some advice before doing anything else to my phone though.
I now seem to be able to get the recovery menu options to respond, so maybe all is not lost. Have set it to root and it's currently converting to EXT4 and is about halfway through that.
I'm hoping once that's done, it'll be bootable.
If not, what do I need to do to make the SGS boot again? Is there any way of getting back to stock or can I only flash a stock rom back on?
Nope, still not booting. It just keeps going to the Samsung I9000 white lettering, stays there for five seconds, goes blank for five seconds, then the white lettering goes back and on, off like that forever.
So... anyone willing to help?

Thanks for responding.
Sorry for being a n00b but I can't find anything in there that helps me. All I see is a lot of jargon about various roms, kernels and something called Voodoo.
I had a working phone with Gingerbread 2.3.6 Value. I added Clockworkmod via Odin. Now I can't get the phone to boot beyond the splash screen. It doesn't even get as far as the animated S, all I get is the splash screen going on and off every few seconds.
All I want is to get my phone working again, I really couldn't care less about custom roms etc.
If anyone can help this poor n00b, I'd be very grateful!
Incidentally, I've downloaded what I understand to be the factory rom for JW4 from sammobile.com - this is a 171MB zip file with just two files inside - a tar file called JW4_JW5_JW4 and a dll file called SS_DL.dll. I'm not really sure what to do with these to restore my phone via Odin. This is the kind of thing I need help with - the threads I've read so far don't make much sense to a poor confused n00b I'm afraid.

OK, thanks for that. I'm supposed to be asleep right now, so I'll come back to this later but thanks for helping.
But just to clarify for now - this will restore the phone to a working version of 2.3.3 and from there I can get back to the latest stock rom (2.3.6) via Kies, yes? I need to get into Kies anyway to restore my contacts from backups (as I haven't yet seen a way of restoring the backups except via Kies).
Thanks once again.

Well, I did get it working again in the end by using a factory rom. Thanks for your help anyway, W1nst0n.
I do intend to attempt to root it again but this time I intend to do it properly.
Any suggestions on what may have caused the boot problem I had? Perhaps using a version of ClockworkMod that was incompatible with 2.3.6 Value?

Hi there folks!
Im getting mighty confused about this flashing thing.
Im looking to change my ROM to something else then the ICS from Samsung.
Here is the deal.
I read the warning posts and it say (what i think it means) that my build "XLP9" ICS 4.0.3 from Samsung is not safe to do anything on.
I look around on the net to see if there is a way (despite what i read here).
It looks promising.
But all the things i find is ether a lower version of Android (like 2.3.x) or someone is telling me about tons of stuff to download and do before.
So this is were i ask you all.
Do (been searching for 2 days, perhaps my search terms are bad) anyone know if there is a working way to for me to change my version to AOKP for e.g without destroying my phone?
Like i said before, my Build is: XLP9, android version 4.0.3 (from Samsungs update service).
Phone is rooted using CWM.
Its a Note version for the .EU market bought like a few weeks ago (came with 2.3.x i believe).
If you know a thread that contains step by step instructions that will allow me to change the rom, please post it to me here.
Or if I´m screwed for updating to ICS just tell me so to
Cheers

Hello again.
Yet another day and cant locate any information that im after.
So i tought perhaps there is a way to downgrade the phone back to the factory settings (not ICS).
But since i did the upgrade to ICS is the old rom still on the phone?
I mean to reset it back (same as thode recovery discs on a computer).
Any help or points in the right direction is helpfull at this time.
cheers

Now that you have upgraded to ICS. Those are the factory settings.
Easiest way to downgrade to GB Is by flashing a stock GB rom via pc Odin.
Most of the new ICS custom ROMs now just require you to install AbyssKernel 4.2, then select advanced options and select reboot recovery. Then you wipe your device (wipe data, cache and dalvik cache). From this moment you're free to flash. It all takes less then a minute if you hurry (joking, don't rush when flashing your phone), and it's not very complicated. Do it once and you'll know it's simple.
You need to have a root access first. Plenty of guides how to do it out there.
Hey folks new to this house and it seems like you folks know what you are doing. Big thanks to the developers of the Paranoid (2) devs. and all of the support peeps out there through the post. Read through themes and roms section but I not seeing answers to my confusion. Looking for some help understanding the features described above and how to get the most out of it..very cool though..just would like to know how to really put it to the test! I was able to get this far from the original FW to gingerbreak, to ICS to Paranoid based on the threads her and I appreciate it much folks..now I seem to be at a brick wall..need help trying to figure this out. I appreciate that the phone isn;t the latest thing on the market but it what I have right now. Would appreciate any and all help just trying to get a grip on this puppy! Thanks Smitty
Oh, every time I see something that looks like it should work on my phone besides not knowing how to install..LOL why does it come up Nexus! Are they similar phones or something!! Thanks again
What's on the phone as of now!
Samsung captivate SGH I897
Android Ver. 4.11
Baseband 19000XXJVU
Kernal: 3.0-.31-01749-gf84bc96
Cyanogen Mod: 10.0.0-RCO-capitvatemid
Paranoid Ver. 2.16
Build# pa-capativate-userdebug 4.1.1 JR003R eng.
Now my question is I want to load on different roms to the phone and be able to go back and forth between these ROMS as I like. I have attempted to use Goo Manager ..that was loaded when I installed Pananooid Ver. 2.16. When I boot into recovery it states that mt recovery ver. is : CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4.
I was trying to load some of the roms that are a part of the Paranoid install and I when I choose from one of these options:
Browse compatiable rom
Browse all files
check for updates..(says there are no updates)
Download gapps packages
Root recovery
flash roms
Copatiable roms:
aokp/devs/aokp
BAKED /devs/BAKED
cm/devs/cm
LronLyons/dev/IronLyon
If I choose any of them you get another list and then another list..it says:
EX: aokp_captivatemid_jb_build-4.zip..just one example ..there are many listed below that as well for each of the roms listed above.
Then I see the file name as above and below that : Begin download and then below that Download Gapps..how do I know which one to download?
Under browse all files :
devs/devs
gapps/gapps
ruu/ruu
stock/stock..choose the first one and get a list of all these different names ..such as adhvanit/devs/advanit..in these cases are these all the groups who produce ROMS?
I also attempted to use ROM Manager( no clue) and it kept saying that I must have clockwork-recovery installed in order to flash a rom..I choose yes and it say I don't have it..but on my phone it says I have as listed above for the phone and what is on it: CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4. ..is this not what they are asking for..or is it that it is looking for one that is not CWM "based" but the really official ver. of CWM Recovery.
What I am looking for is an explanation of what I can now do with this phone the way it is and also how to load ROMS of different kinds that stay on my phone and how I go back and forth from one to another with ease. Additionally, how to put different themes on the phone and any other tricks that can trick the phone out. My bro and sister all went out and purchased new Galaxy S3 phones..I am keeping mine and want to "trick" it out as much as possible to" one up them"
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks..thanks in adv.!! Smitty
Thanks for the hlp bobbylx and TRusselo
Thanks bobbylx and TRusselo.....wanted folks to know that these bros. helped without hesitation and didn't give me a lot of BS when I had this emergency! I didn't get it fixed yet but they lent a hand and gave me some incentive and FYI..has a noob that means a lot to me! Thanks guys!!!! Smitty!!:victory: almost!!!
Smitty,
I no longer have the captivate so I'm not current on everything that's going on. If you can get into download mode I would find one of the stock roms that can be flashed via Odin and start over.
You'll have better luck post this in the QA section for captivate. Good luck,
Bobby

Boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, then select usb storage, plug in phone, copy files. If that option isn't there, Odin flash back to stock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..thank you Smitty. I need that phone just for my kids in order to get them..thank you and I would appreciate you getting back to me as soon as you can ..Smitty!
Boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, then select usb storage, plug in phone, copy files. If that option isn't there, Odin flash back to stock.

I need some help here, and I need to stop bothering the guys in the ROM forum about it so I'm asking here instead.
It's a t-mobile note 4. I was running Dynamic Kat on it and it was suggested I update the modem and bootloader with a partial flash file. Now my phone is stuck in a bootloop.
I CAN get into both download mode and TWRP, however, so it seems like this should be fixable. I'd be happy with even going back to fully stock and rerooting it.
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...to-downgrade-cod6-to-nk4-upgrade-nk4-t3095585 which seems to about flashing back to stock NK4 or cod6. I know those are bootloaders, but I don't really understand what they mean beyond that.
Or can I just flash to the new stock lollipop t-mobile put out this week? If so, how? If anyone has the time to help me with this, I would really appreciate it.
Edit: I found instructions on sammobile.com. Going to try them. *fixed

Easy fix. ODIN flash the stock COD6 software. Then start over again with cf auto root. There is a thread that had all of the files you need in one zip.

Yayyy I think it worked! Stock Lollipop is booting up. It's in the Optimizing apps phase.

Are you the same one who renamed the tar.md5 file to tar? If so, when you ask for help you really should mention all the steps you took to get there. Where it went wrong, etc.
When in doubt, Odin flash full firmware to get back to stock. There are other steps you could have taken as well but Odin is almost always a surefire bet.
(Also remember to hit the thanks button for those who have helped you get things sorted, like that fella above and the people who helped you in the rom thread- not me of course because I didn't do anything but for those who did I'm sure they would appreciate it)

Yah, that was me. I came over here to ask for help instead because I shouldn't be bothering you guys in the ROM thread. I was making progress though. By the time I made this thread, I'd figured out that if I could get into TWRP or download mode, I could odin my way out of it. Just needed some help on that doing that, but then I figured that out too thanks to sammobile

Cool, glad you got it sorted. Yeah as long as you can access download mode you're golden, and a bonus if you can get into recovery as well.
Excellent job actually searching and reading and fixing your problem, far too many people want answers just handed to them, so kudos to you for that.
Just for the future if you need help, try to remember and list all steps you took (even if you don't know where you went wrong) in excruciating detail because it helps us troubleshoot and figure out what the problem is. Without certain pertinent info it could take a lot longer to solve it.
Overall good job, glad you're up & running.
Go to rapture download the rom and load it to sd card. Then follow directions exactly and u will be ok. No loading anything. Fresh start
BAD ASS NOTE 4
I am in the same boat with the boot loop. I flashed the partial firmware file as well and I did not rename it and the flash went fine. After that it boot to the screen that says powered by Android then it reboots over and over. Currently downloading the stock cod so I can odin that.

Technically you shouldn't be flashing just the partial firmware. It sets up a base so that you can flash a lollipop rom in recovery without issues. I'm not sure why someone is recommending just flashing the partial firmware only. I guess they figured it wouldn't cause issues.
Anyway, here is how the partial firmware should be used:
Flash partial firmware in Odin
Flash flashable stock lollipop in recovery.
Set up rom, make a backup.
From here you can restore your old kitkat backups without the problems that some are seeing (those who Odin the full firmware are having problems restoring kitkat backups/flashing kitkat roms without Odining ank4 first). The partial firmware prevents that but it's designed to be flashed right before flashing a lollipop rom.
I hope that helps some of you who are having issues.
