I have a Verizon Note 5 and am using Adguard. Does anyone know how to remove the persistent VPN notification without root? It is really annoying to see that all of the time. Thanks in advance!
Nope. Sorry.

I asked their support team that question and their reply was "it's important."
Go figure.

It IS important. Keeping an active notification helps prevent the system from closing it.
Long press the notification and once you go into app settings, disable notification... Wouldn't this help atleast till reboot?

I tried that, originally, but long pressing on it goes to an Android System window and does not allow to disable the notification

Hey Guys/Girls.
If this has been spoke about before then i sincerely apologise and please just redirect me.
How can i edit the notifications i get for text msgs etc at top of screen? I liked the function on my iPhone 4 where it had options of telling you who texted or displaying partial msg and name. Is there something similar for my Note?
regards,
Barry.

I am on the stock ICS ROM and all my texts are displayed on the status bar and also from whom they are. That's how it has been on Android from as long as I can remember.

Hey Brock,
Looking for a solution that cuts out notifications appearing on top bar altogether. Is proving problematic especially if i am showing my screen to someone and a msg comes through and they can read it :/
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Try Go Sms Pro you can turn the privacy mode on and in the status bar there will be a notification "new message" instead of the message itself

What do you want?
Thanks abagnale, ill try it.
And hippo, i thought that was evident from my questions. The underlying requirement is to not have my entire msg displayed on notification bar, rather i would prefer a name or simple "msg received from" notification.
Thanks anyway.

I found this app and remembered that it does what you wanted. Killer feature? Filter notifications by keyword. I haven't tried it though.

Every 3 days it tells me i could use the "my Xperia" service..i don't want to..i just want it to shut up. Do i have to root/freeze the "myxperia"-app or is there a regular way to shut it up?
When the notification pop up click on don't show again, you have to read it before pressing clear

Do you use my Xperia? If not just freeze it with Titanium Backup and consequently you'll never see the message again

Not really there are a lot of differences between the different region ROMs. like activated NFC symbols and stuff. Maybe some are missing the "don't show again" options.

Go to Settings=>Apps=>All find my Xperia and uncheck 'Show notifications'.
Thats greyed out.
Probably because of the fact that it's a security app, it cannot be disabled through app settings. The only way that I found to freeze it was with Titanium Backup. Use that or a similar app.

Looks like you're going to have to root or put up with it
I had the same annoying problem – but after a long search I was able to find the solution for it:
With the App "Notifications Off" (Free in Google Play Store) notification settings can be set for each app - even for system-Apps (hence root privileges are required for this purpose).
The annoying notifications about "my Xperia" and STAMANIA mode (App "Eco-Mode Controller") can be disabled easily!
I use Elixir 2 to disable everything I want
I can't stop these annoying notifications, too
i have same problem, always show the pop up notification has stopped, what should i do ?

Or just subscribe with it, and don't bother with it anymore.
You won't have to give personal information, and is easy to use of someone steals your phone

It isn't "simply" - you need root!
This is just bad from Sony.

You're on a forum dedicated to modifying / customising / rooting mobile devices. So yes. Simply.

Hit the 3 lines on the top left, scroll down to App Settings.
With the new fb update there is no 3 button. You have to goto app setting on the list on the left

Hi guys I need your help. I recently received a phone call which showed the caller's completed name. Well, I don't have that contact's name saved and once I clicked it disappeared. I have googled for a solution and seen a way but it doesn't work on the Note7 anymore. Long press empty space, widget, settings.... <----- There is no setting widget. Does anyone know how to recover this lost notification or a way to know the caller's name? Thanks in advanced.
Try looking in the app T-Mobile name id

How do I stop my phone from opening an app when I get a notification in it. Example; I get a notification that I have a new post in Instagram. When I unlock my phone, it'll go directly to that post. Itll do it also if I get a notification while on the phone in a call. Soon as I take the phone away from my ear, it'll go to that notification.
I have a carrier Verizon Note 9, with 9.0, not rooted.
Anyone?
Are you sure you don't click the notification or screen before unlocking the phone?
This is an android feature i.e. it will land up on the app when you click a notification on lock screen. Obviously you have to go through the lock screen.
If this is not the case, I think you have to debug via logcat.

Good one. Also check apps having notification access. Disable them one by one and check.

You both may have put me on the right path.
When I went to start disabling apps, I noticed this option in the Gear options. I turned it off, as it must have been on by default. I'll see what happens now.

Oh, how could I forget this. It's introduced in the new update I guess. Really annoying feature. You're safe to disable it.

Thanks. I've already confirmed that was it too. But I never thought to check the Gear for the problem. It did occur to me though that it happened everytime I got a notification on my watch that the same app would open on my phone.
Again, Thank You.
When I read your problem that was the first thing I thought causing it, cause I recently bought a galaxY watch and set it up
