unfortunately for me, it fails to install....on Preview 3
you wont be able to install it without root. it does not install like a regular app. you need to place it into either /system/app/ or /system/priv-app/ then reboot for it to install itself. stock you cant do that, with root you can.

I just did it. Do you think it will automaticly update via playstore. Because it is still shows 5.1 version there

I am curious why you want to update.
On my N6 Google app 4.1.29 etc is still working. Downgrade was necessary, else the Black Google Now launcher will become white instead of black.
Secondly I need to block Google app from updating.
Maybe you need to check your settings concerning auto updates.
Play store - My apps - Google app - above right 3 dots - auto update - check box.

Yes know what you mean. Because you are complete stock, I cannot see/find a reason when update settings are correct.

updating it to 5.2 changes googles layouts for google now(more colorful and better tiles for info), and it changes your app drawerer to a side scrolling version, instead of the m up and down version. i changed mine yesterday to see what the big deal is. to be honest, google now looks much better.

I'll be honest to. I am using dpi 384. And the Black Google Now launcher. I love it and the drawer has also side scrolling.
I wish I had the power to kick Google's ass to make sure we get a marshmallow with a Light/Dark Material switch.
The problem did not dissapeared. I'd installed google app 5.2 manually and it works but in playstore it is still 5.1. Factory reset do not work
Playstore updated to new 5.9.11 and the problem solved. Thanks all. Please close the topic

I'm on the CM9 alpha, & since they announced Google Play Store, I can no longer use the "market" website. It just says that my account doesn't have a device. But when I look at the error that says, "don't see your device," it says:

When I opened the app store this morning it updated me to play store automatically (i'm on aokp). So you can try to wait it out and probably get the update soon.
but to answer your question, that .apk should work.
So you just saw a notification that you were being upgraded or....? Market interface does look different for me, but I don't think the shortcut to launch it has changed.
Are you able to use the Market/Play website?
*Edit - I just fired up Market again to check & got a Google Play Store license agreement. I went to My Apps to check for updates, but still am unable to use the website (from my desktop - still "no device").

Don't try to install it. instead you need to paste it into your system/app folder with permission rw-r--r--. you might want to backup your old market apk just in case something goes wrong.
Mine has yet to update itself too. I found this. Probably going to update.
Just Wipe Cache of Market using Titanium backup and Re-launch it..
It will ask for License thingi.. Click Accept and You will get the Update soon..
If anyone out there can help me, I'd really appreciate it.
I have a Nexus 6, Verizon, running Pure Nexus 5.1.1 (screenshot below)
I've been getting this irritating message for weeks now, stating the "Layers Manager" can't update via the Google Play Store. I don't know how to fix this and it's become quite annoying every night when I update my apps before bed.
Screenshot of said problem below.
I'm by no means an expert at ROM management, but I went from rooted stock to this ROM because I got tired of the google security update not working, due to my being rooted. I really like this ROM and this is the only problem I've had with it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

in the "what's new" section of the play page it says for error code 505 is caused when trying to update over the v4.3 beta #4 version being a system app. I can't remember 100% if pure nexus rom has it installed in such a way but essentially the error is fixed by uninstalling the old version and installing the new version.

Thanks so much for this tip.
I just tried uninstalling the app, but it won't let me. I went into apps-all-layers manager, but there is no uninstall option
yea since its error 505 its installed as a system app so you would need to use titanium backup or some other "debloating" tool to remove it. Make sure you backup your theme preferences inside the app so you don't have to resetup everything.
For titanium backup you would open the Backup/Restore tab and find the layers app in the list. First off hit the Backup! button so you'll have something to fall back on in case of problems, then hit the red Un-install button. It may ask for a confirmation. Then you should be able to go and install the google play updated version.

Trying this now, thank you.
Will post update.
**UPDATE**
I tried what you said and it worked!
I uninstalled Layers via Titanium and then tried to update via Play Store, but got the same error. So I rebooted the phone, then went back into Play Store and it installed. Hopefully this will be a fix in the future. I don't know what Layers even is. I don't ever use it.

It's an app for installing layer themes.
Pretty straightforward: Flash with TWRP, get the latest Google Dialer from APK Mirror, and install it normally. No more restriction! Subsequent updates will install from the Play Store automatically.

Yes, I'm using the latest stock Google Dialer on my S7 Edge at the moment without any issue.
That "fix" doesn't modify or replace anything in /system. It only adds two missing files on non-Nexus phones that are required to be able to install the latest stock Google Dialer:
com.google.android.dialer.support.xml under system/etc/permissions
com.google.android.dialer.support.jar under system/framework
Both files included come from the latest Nexus 5 Android 6.0.1 system dump
Just tried it on z5c and it works perfectly well. I am curious what happens if I uninstall the stock phone app through titanium backup pro and keep the Google dialer. Anyone tried it?

Thank you, this got the Google dialer installed and working for me, I posted asking how to get Visual Voicemail to show up inside the Google Dialer, but setting it as the default app fixed that too

I'm assuming since this adds files to /system that the phone would then fail SafetyNet checks? Meaning this would cause Android Pay to fail.

Did you try with the Google App Beta? That may be the main cause. Or maybe Android N-ify is not activated in xposed modules. Do give a reboot after enabling it in Xposed
Worked last night on my moto x pure 2015 now it force closes my phone app and kills my phone radio for a second and then it comes back

There is a "-go" at the end of the version number. Maybe it's something related to Android Go?
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-23-0-208561757-go-release/
Does anyone tried this Google Phone version on a OnePlus 3 or 3T unmodified? There is a comment at the bottom of the link that says: "Probably worth mentioning that this installs and everything seems to work properly on a OnePlus 3 without any modifications".
I'm currently using the v7 "nonnexus" edition in my OnePlus 3T (unmodified, no root): https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-release/

The one you're using is outdated, even by AOSP standards. The one bundled with custom Oreo ROMs is 11.0.
I'm sure the other one is a Go edition. Not sure why anyone would choose that over the full Play Store version. It's bound to be gimped in some way. It's a shame that there are no screenshots. Maybe there's a YT video showing Go features?
What ROM are you using?

I'm using the stock OxygenOS v5.0.5 for OnePlus 3T, with no modifications and no root. So the only version of Google Phone that I can use right now with fully working functions (like Spam Caller ID) is the last nonnexus version, that is indeed outdated (v7, versus last v23).
I can't install the Play Store version of Google Phone because that is just for Nexus and Pixel phones (I can't install any of the standard versions in APK mirror); and I don't want to install a patched APK like this because I want "Spam Caller ID" to work, and in patched APK it doesn't work.
But it seems that this "-go" version of Google Phone could be installed in a non nexus nor pixel phone with fully working functions, and that's what I want to know...

No harm in trying it. Give it a go and let us know. If like me you detest the all white theme and pastel colours it might be a non-runner anyway though.
I tried the nodpi version and it seems to work ok, but every time I open the app I see a message that says "This device is not supported and phone calls may not work correctly", it's a bit annoying...
But the app works fine so far...

I think I will keep using my old v7 version; because v23-go is laggy, and the warning message everytime I open the app is annoying. If is there a new version in the future that gets this two issues fixed, maybe I will update it (I don't dislike the colors as much as you... ).
