Can't get unlock data on a XT1053 - Moto X Q&A

My original Moto-X 1st Gen Developer Edition was a piece of cake to do the whole unlock bootloader procedure. Unfortunately my original phone died and I received a replacement from Motorola which is supposedly a Developer Edition version (however does not say Developer Edition anywhere, nor does it have the white woven back cover).
I have tried from two different PC's both which contain the Android SDK and Motorola USB Drivers. My PC's recognize the phone when it is in fastboot mode and the phone recognizes USB Connected. So when I issue the command "fastboot oem get_unlock_data" it responds back with "Could not get unlock data!" and that's as far as I get! Fastboot getvar all works fine.
Anyone have any ideas? My original phone also had Android 4.x.x whereas the replacement has Android 5.1 so I don't know if that makes a difference..

I haven't been able to successfully unlock the regular Moto X bootloader, so my best guess is they sent you a non-Developer Edition phone. Let them know and they should be able to send out a replacement.

That's my guess too, even though they claim they go by the IMEI number of the original phone and send out a replacement that is the same based on that. But maybe they loaded the updated OS with the unlockable bootloader & Rom. I'm sending it back for replacement. hopefully the next one is correct!

I've got the same problem right now with a replacement XT1053DE. Did the second one you receive unlock properly? I'd love to be able to solve this rather than wait for another exchange. Especially considering this already the second one I had to wait for.

Moto x xt1060 on 5.1 unlock bootloader

I am trying to unlock the bootloader and root my 1st gen moto x running 5.1. I have followed the steps found online to get the unlock code from the motorola site but after I enter the string of code it says "your phone cannot be unlocked."
I cannot find any other site with instructions onwhat to do next. Please help.
Thanks

You probably have the non-DE XT1060 - There is no way to unlock the bootloader for it. Also: Next time post this question as a separate thread.

check your string of data u pulled I had the same issue but missed spaces and kept trying

Yep, same problem here. I've got 5.1 on an XT1053 that isn't marked as a developer edition, but the CID: is 0x00, which is unlockable. And like the OP, all I can get from "oem get_unlock_data" is "Could not get unlock data!" Extremely frustrating. Every other fastboot command seems to work fine.

Motorola won't unlock my relocked bootloader :(

So I bought a Moto X through swappa in December. Up until now, I've been pretty happy with it stock, but now I'm looking to try some different ROMs. The problem is, the original owner previously unlocked and relocked the bootloader. Now when I try to unlock it, I'm being told I'm not eligible, because my account does not match the account my phone was originally activated on. Huh??? Does anyone have any idea what I can do at this point? Surely others have unlocked previously owned X's, right?
Email the original owner and ask for the unlock key.
Go into fastboot
fastboot OEM unlock
since the code has previously been put in, there should be no need for a code again

Tried that. Still locked though.
Email MotoX support. They are friendly and helpful usually. Some Chinese guy has unlock codes, that might help too

[Q] Moto X DE - Can't unlock bootloader

I just purchased a Moto X Developer Edition (Verizon) directly from Motorola, and I'm attempting to unlock the bootloader, but at this point I can't even get an unlock code. I followed the instructions and used fastbook to get the unlock data from the phone. I copied and pasted (several times) to the Moto website, but when I click the "Can my device be unlocked?" button, I get a dialog box that says "your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking". It's the Dev Edition, so this should not be the case.
The box that the phone came in says XT1060DEV and the phone has Developer Edition stamped on the back. When I look at the About information on the phone, should I seen any indication in there that it's a DE version? The Model Number field just says Moto X.
Has anybody else had this problem?
Thanks.
Wrong device threads. This is for the new moto x, there is no Verizon Dev edition.

I think you want to post this in the original Moto X section (not the 2014).
However, I used to visit that section and can offer one thought: I have seen reports of this before, and it came from Motorola's website not being updated with your device's IMEI. Give it a few days and it should work.
While you wait, just make sure you're typing the IMEI correctly (use 0 not O for example).
If it still won't work after a few days, then call Motorola.

First... Boot the phone into Fastboot/Bootloader mode. What does it say for the status? And what is the version from the 2nd line.
Next, while the phone is in bootloader mode, hook it to the PC and do a fastboot getvar all and post what it says

Exactly what model do you have? What is stamped on the back of the phone in the FINE PRINT?
Based on those shots... 161.44.25 is XT1053 4.4.2. 30.B7 is 4.4.2 bootloader.
BUT as you can see, similar to those other threads, your phone reports...
(bootloader) unlocked: Not supported
(bootloader) iswarrantyvoid: Not supported
(bootloader) cid: 0xdead
And your IMEI and SKU are all zeros...
I'm not sure how phones are getting into this state. And I don't have a fool proof way to fix them.
it is probably one of those "motorola confidential property" tagged phones used by company staff only, it may have been leaked into market, it often has unlocked bootloader like developer edition phones. it is a pre release phone with extra functions (that are not in mass production versions)

hi dears
well, i've got the same issue (device is unlocked - status code 1)
it seems it has an unlocked bootloader, but for me, the unlocked bootloader warning has never appeared
i've even flashed twrp and cyanogenmod 12.1
my question is, (1) should i unlock it with the code and all that moto.com stuff?
one last question is, (2) why can't i just add supersu from twrp 2.8.7.0?
i turn it on at system, and i swipe to root, but the icon never appears on my apps drawer, is it related to the status code 1?
please help me...
For God sake! I have the same problem here. How can I root this phone? What code 1 means?

(US) T-Mobile version G7+ may come

https://www.xda-developers.com/motorola-moto-g7-plus-t-mobile/
It has NFC and B71 which G7 doesn't have.
Hopefully bootloader will be unlockable. If so, I may get one and paid in full and have it SIM unlocked, and flash RETAIL ROM
Any update on this? Been holding out on upgrading for this if it's true
If this is right it could be the revvl 3 or 3 plus as product sku is tmo revvl this is from wifi alliance
It's the g7 plus and g7 play https://www.tmonews.com/2019/07/t-mobile-revvlry-official-specs-price/
Can we root it using g7 plus method and unlock bootloader same way I currently have the phone
You can try to get bootloader unlock code it won't hurt nothing but as far as rooting I don't know but should be the same

If you can unlock the bootloader, then rooting will be the easy part as you can usually just flash Magisk (or create a patched boot.img in Magisk Manager and flash the patched boot.img). TWRP may even work too, assuming T-Mo didn't heavily modify the underlying software and kernel.
The only question is gonna be unlocking the bootloader as it's not technically branded a Moto device (although is allegedly has the same codename). Moto may not ship a bootloader code to you, you may need to go thru T-Mobile in some way first.

Knowing they (as in T-Mo) doesn't offer codes, which I figured they didn't, then I'd at least try to paste your unlock code on Moto's site. Worst that'll happen is a message will pop up saying you device doesn't qualify.
t mobile g7 plus bootloader unlock
i can confirm that the bootloader for the t mobile moto g7 plus is locked and could not get a unlock from Motorola website it probably has to be paid for to get a unlock. i am unable to confirm at this time if you can get a unlock i got mine on JOD jump on demand. if someone out there gets one paid for and trys for a bootloader unlock please confirm if you can or not after it is paid for. i think you could but i cant confirm that at this time please any ones feed back would be a big help we should all work to gather on this i hope for a bootloader unlock or a work around if someone figures something out but as fas as i know at this time if you owe on 1 there is no boot loader unlock but just maybe the possibility after it is paid i am not shure if you would have to go though t mobile first to get a unlock thanks and anyone's feed back would be very much appreciated.
Also this is probably the same moto g7 build lake as the one off there website but with t mobile branding and a locked down bootloader so twrp and magisk root should work if you can get a bootloader unlock. if someone does please confirm here if it does work or not thanks and i welcome your feedback from anyone.

Ok I'll try it cause it got it for free and it's paid off. Got it from my job as a gift. So I'll definitely check it out then I'm even more interested. But I kinda doubt it cause the bootloader has the name revvl in it in CPU Z. Bootloader goes by MBM-3.0lake_revvl-43c7c77-190517

That's because you got to get a unlock key from Motorola. you will first need to make a account with Motorola https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone%2Fbootloader%2Funlock-your-device-b
here is your instructions on how to get a key
Put your device in fastboot mode (power off, then press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously).
On your desktop, open a command prompt or terminal, and go to the directory where you installed the Android ADB (or make sure fastboot is in your $PATH)
At the prompt, type $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
The returned string will be used to retrieve your unlock key.
Paste together the 5 lines of output into one continuous string without (bootloader) or ‘INFO’ or white spaces. Your string needs to look like this: 0A40040192024205#4C4D355631323030373731363031303332323239#BD008A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F951A3E5#1F532800020000000000000000000000 EXAMPLE
Check if your device can be unlocked by pasting this string in the field below, and clicking “Can my device be unlocked?”
If your device is unlockable, a "REQUEST UNLOCK KEY" button will now appear at the bottom of this page.
then get the key put in your email address and you will get UNIQUE_KEY
then in adb put in fastboot oem unlock ((UNIQUE_KEY)) here
then fastboot reboot
If yours is paid for please let me know if it works mine is not paid for.

This is a common method to unlock Motorola smartphone bootloader.
Hopefully you will be lucky to get the code, but you may wait up to 2 weeks after initial release.
I can confirm that Motorola will give you the unlock code.
Findings
UNLOCKING AND LOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE> BACKUP PERSONAL DATA IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT.
I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the moto G7 plus RETAIL firmware. Everything worked fine except google pay, and verity being disabled.
Installing TWRP would always give me a recovery boot loop, so I stopped trying, instead just booting into TWRP with fastboot.
I cannot get verity enabled, even after flashing stock and locking the bootloader, so that means no Google Pay, no Google Fi, no whatever else requires verity.
Looking at
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Shows a flag that verity is disabled and another flag that warranty is void, even after flashing stock.
The stock firmware I found in a firmware repo, because I failed to do a full backup of my system (I only backed up boot, system, and data).
Would anyone be willing to unlock their bootloader, boot into TWRP, do a full backup, and share it, to see if I can get back to stock with verity enabled? I'd love Google Pay back.

(HELP) Pixel 5 bootloop after reversion to stock from beta

Hey Everyone,
I'm looking for help. I tried reverting my pixel 5 to stock from beta and am stuck at the boot screen with " your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and may not work properly."
I've spent days fiddling with it, and cannot get anywhere with the google repair website because it's saying my bootloader is locked. I don't understand how I purchased it unlocked. Anyway, I cannot get into the settings to unlock the bootloader. It's been a long time since I've been a tinkerer but I do have all the software downloaded to do so. I cannot get my PC to recognize the phone in the command prompt window to try and sideload a software install.
Has this happened to anyone and is there a solution out there somewhere?

Buying it "unlocked" means you bought it free of a carrier, such as Verizon, who lock the bootloader, and can't be unlocked.
But you still need to unlock the bootloader, it comes locked, for security reasons. So if you never unlocked it, it's locked.
I haven't installed beta 12 yet.
Do you have the latest SDK tools? (adb, fastboot, etc)
I was under the impression though, that you can't downgrade with a locked bootloader. But not sure.

This probably isn't of any help now, but going forward, it may be. In Developer options, you can enable 'OEM unlocking'. As you can see now, it may well be a very good idea to enable that **before** you start messing with the phone, because if something does go wrong (as it has for you), then you can (hopefully) still get to fastboot and do 'fastboot flashing unlock'.
So, knowing this, you may want to keep an eye out for some tool or something that will allow you to possibly turn on oem unlocking (because your device won't boot).
Another thing to try is switching slots and see if the other slot boots? If you can get to fastboot try; fastboot --set-active=(a or b), then fastboot reboot. (If you don't know which slot is active, do 'fastboot getvar all', in the output it will tell you which is current.
cheers
Your bootloader being locked should not affect your ability to restore factory images/OTAs from Google. They are signed by Google and will pass the signature checks. You should try to download the latest factory image (either 11 or 12beta) and flash it via recovery => adb sideload.
