Like the title says, does a custom ROM improve battery life compared to stock? The "Android OS" has been taking up more percentage of battery than the screen!! (33% whereas my Screen is only 27%)
PS: I'm planning to go for CyanogenMod 5.1.1 or Carbon 5.1.1

Go to virginity's ROM thread & read the features. It said "amazing battery life", blah, blah, blah... Too many advantages & mainly the battery life & customization. It's what you're looking for, right!!? Anyway it seems you're asking which is the best ROM. Read the XDA rules first please, it's not allowed to ask that. You must try them & decide which ROM is the best for your needs. Have fun

Yes. That's posible if the developer adding some tweak when build that's ROM
No custom rom can account for bad use.
If you load tons of apps syncing and waking the system "gona have a bad time"
Your Screen and 3G radio are the biggest pigs.

You will see small a increase when you are suing it.
A large increase in standby.

Just a screenshot from my totally light CM 4.4.4
I put the one cpu to sleep when i don't need it.
You can see how when the device was on "playing games" it ate like a pig.

How did you get so much battery life? I only get 7 hours on mine with that same rom, 7 hours of usage, not in stand by.

I keep my phone clean and don't use applications that sync constantly or bump the wakelocks.

Hi guys, I got this phone for free with bell mobility as my 2nd phone for my business line. I'm going to be using this phone only to make phone calls. No internet, ever. No wifi, maybe some bluetooth once in a while. No games, no apps. I have a Galaxy nexus for that.
Which rom would be the best for good battery life?
Thanks guys
Talking about the battery life and from personal experience,I would suggest using MIUI rom. The battery lasts for at least 2-3 days(for me) with normal use(wifi, music etc),so should go a far way if only used for calls.
Alternatively, if you prefer Sense UI,I've heard good things about the battery life of Android Revolution HD.
Finally,it's always best to just test several roms yourself in real life situations for several days, and then picking the rom which suits you best.
after playing with it a bit I'm not a big fan of sense...
I'll give miui a try, thanks

+ 1 use tiamat uv to - 50 all values
+1 for miui. might just be in my head, but seems to be even more battery efficient than cm7.

What version of MIUI do you use? There are so many I was going to wait for the updated galnetmiui ics one.
I would take the CM7 Nightly#146 and edit the .zip file and remove all the .apk files from system/app that you don't need.
That will give you a very light ROM.
I'm wondering which ROM/Kernel to flash. Does anyone know which Rom/kernel has the best battery life. I'm on CM nightly and my screen on time is just above 3h before the bettery goes down to 10%.

Don't ask, 'The best...' questions are frowned upon as it all depends how you use your phone.
Best bet is always to try them yourself and decide, but we don't exactly have many ROMs yet.

I'm NOT asking which is the best ROM. you said it depends on how i use my phone and I'm asking about BATTERY LIFE! It's my top concern.
I've had my 510 for about a month, and I'm having what I feel like is bad battery life. Any idea what screen time I should expect? Any thoughts? I'm concerned I have a bad battery.

You rooted or stock?
Rooted on nonsense. I've tried a few different kernels. The thing is, the percentages for usage seek about the same as my other devices, but everything drains quicker.

If your willing to, were about to drop a new ROM with a new kernel that I've been experiencing tremendous battery life with. I'm just hoping everyone else will see the same.
I'll update you with a link when its available

He just put 1.1 couple hours ago but it isn't the full update it is kind of a pre release for those just waiting lol. He has couple things left to do so probably by this weekend.
U will find 1.1 on page 51 if I remember correctly. If not i just reposted it at the end of the thread replying to someone.

Do you know the term "Your Mileage may vary?"
It applies to flashing anything...only you can determine how battery life affects you and how YOU use your phone..an errant app can screw your phone up as far as battery life and speed, as can a bad flash (dirty vs clean)...so....it is dependent on signal, use, apps, syncs, phone imperfections, and many other factors. Just read through the development threads and you will see many users report many different experiences...if there was a firm formula then every device would have a BEST ROM...which they don't and just for this reason.
Best bet is wipe the phone, clean flash your choice, try it for a couple of days to let it settle, then start adding back apps you use all the time.
Happy flashing!
Might try 1.1

Hello XDA
I know there is no such thing as the best ROM but I was hoping to do a little cheating and save my self some reading and get some opinions on what would fit me the best.
I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !
Use Paranoid Android 7.2.1
Vertex OS

There are people that use RR and have insane battery life, but i recommend hydrogen os because it's officially supported by Oneplus and have a better battery life than oxygen os

I understand where you are coming from, but from a practical point of view, if someone recommended a ROM, you may find your experience different from theirs. Happens all the time. Second, it's a good idea to read first. I just got this phone. All I have done is read threads here at xda. Not even so much ROMs, but reading about the phone. This step alone has saved me from myself in the past. Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems.
Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I agree. I have tested enough roms to conclude that for the 3T there's no point in trying to find something better than stock
Perhaps only something purely based on oxygen os, but more debloated, like freedomOS
basically it doesnt matter, 99% is all placebo.
TugaPower is out-of-box really good, which is LineageOS with some small mods (Viper4Android Audio mod ie.)

good battery life, camera comparable to oxygen os, stable and fast rom , theme option for people who don't use substratum theme engine
Beta with Magisk for root and a kernel of your choice. Get some performance and battery benefits from the kernel (if that's the type you decide to flash). Debloat it. Use Greenify and BetterBatteryStats to eliminate wakelocks.

I guess stock is the best choice here for you. It has no additional battery hungry features like viper but is still stable. You may consider flashing a kernel instead and I would hardly recommend you to read into them since that's the best way to get to know to new kernels.

I would say oos..if u want a flawless stock experience with better battery life, use freedom os..
I personally use oos open beta 12( rooted with magisk) with elemental x kernel..it gives me good battery and flawless performance..apps like substratum and viper 4 arise works fine..
Thanks for all the replies. I tried out RR and had an issue with the WiFi dropping - since this was a business phone I decided not to flash a custom ROM. I am now on OOS open beta, the latest one. Loving the parallel apps feature!
Now to get into theming and modding. I've got the basics down already like greenify, BBS.
Any recommendations on rooted apps? What have I missed in the last year or so
