im having a problem with us cellular firmware on android 5.1 if i update i lose data, i must stay on 5.0.2 to make it work.
But it keep asking me all the time to update the phone, how can i stop those notifications?
The only way to stop it is with root access. You have to freeze the MotorolaOTA app.

Hi Guys,
I've got a Droid 3 on 2.3.4, rooted and bloat apps froze with Ti backup pro. I'm concerned that a later ota update may auto install and mess up the phone due to the apps being froze. Is there a way to stop automatic ota updates?
Is this something to worry about at all? Can an ota mess up my phone if it installs with apps froze?
Note: nothing has been deleted, just froze.
i dont think having apps frozen would do much, and if you dont want an ota update,i cant really help with that

Thanks for the reply stumpyz9. I was under the impression that an ota with stock apps deleted could brick the phone, but I could find any solid info about ota with frozen apps. I just wanted to be sure before another update comes around. Don't want to kill my phone
Typically to get OTA updates, you have to manually check for updates. Even if an update appears as a notification, you still will have to accept it, it will not auto-update. Final point is that unless you have all stock apps the update will fail and not install. Frozen apps will cause an update to fail, I haven't heard of anyone bricking their phone this way. Either way you should be fine.

Hey guys, so I'm on 4.4 with a locked boot loaded and so-on with root.
The ota keeps prompting me to install. What should I do? I'm assuming if I allow it, it'll break root.
Thanks

If you have titanium backup, then you can freeze updater 1.0 and MotorolaOTA 1.0 and this will stop the constant prompting.

1. You should search.
2. Use Titanium to freeze MotorolaOTA
I currently have NB4. I do not want to lose root.
AT&T keeps trying to download and install update even though I have set no security update in settings. Is there a way to block this? Perhaps Greenify the update process?? Thx.
Use titanium backup or root app delete to freeze the att update app

Present, I am on Kit-Kat OS in Moto G 2014 (XT1068) model
Everytime it is asking me to update to Lollipop with a message MAY BE LATER or I'M IN
I accidentally pressed I'M IN, then it is getting downloading Lollipop, but I don't want to update to Lollipop.
How to cancel the update ?
And how to cancel checking for update every time ?
If you're rooted you can go into titanium backup and disable the update scheduled.

Thanks I did it. It worked.
But if I want to update to lollipop in future, how to enable it ?, as MotorolaOTA not appearing in all apps.

I'm on 5.0.2 and rooted (via PingPong). I rooted after the update notification (for 5.1.1) showed up, and now I can't get the notification to go away. Does anybody know of a way to get rid of the notification or will I have to just live with it?

I am rooted via pingpong and I never received a notification when the update became available...
I fear that my problem may be that because the notification already showed up before root I'm stuck with it. Whereas if you rooted before, then that process doesn't carry through.

did you ever get this resolved, was about to root mine and stumbled on your thread. I have the notification also, but havent rooted yet

Can confirm. Freezing software update does remove the icon.
That's what I was thinking too; Titanium Backup to freeze it. Will have to hunt around and find the process to freeze again (been a while), but that should do it.
Thanks
any non-root way of doing it....I am a T-mobile build that still isn't supported by pingpong root
