Games/apps that use an lot of power are bad for the battery, as the battery gets hot as it discharges, and heat is shortens the life of the battery, But if you tablet is at 100% and plugged-in does all of the power come from the charger? , If it does come from the charger you will not have to have your battery replaced so soon, the cpu will still get hot but that cannot be helped, I have read that some people game in power saver mode as this limits the cpu power used and your tablet will run cooler and for longer, you will have to see if your game will work without stuttering in power save mode.
I have never tried this so has anybody tried it, one possible problem the user manual mentions touchscreen problems if you use the tablet while charging.

You will get touch issues if you try to do anything while charging.

I think it still uses the battery power and simply just charges what is being used even at 100% because I can still lose battery life while playing emulated games. There appears to be not enough power to do heavy computing with a simple USB charger. Tablets are incredibly power efficient in terms of how little they need to charge and their output. That is why even when the device is totally out of power, you have to wait a few minutes for it to turn on (as opposed to laptops, they simply power on without a battery.)
So basically, if you are charging while playing a game you are effectively shortening your life even further as the charging increases heat, you should only charge when the device has reached <5% in my opinion. Carry something like this in a backpack for emergency charges: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UBDI7EC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00

hello, is it a common problem? or is there a problem with mine? Not actually very hot, but hotter than the room temperature
I have the same thing, especially if the handset is charging through USB from my laptop.
I don't recharge from USB as I've read that it is bad for the battery. Again, not very hot. Also slightly hot when using UiFi for a very long time, or playing a lot. I guess it's normal. Being used a lot ... :-? I don't know, just asking
Hi georgeono,
I can't remember how to disable charging on connectivity to the PC. Can you please point that out to me?
Many thanks,
Ayman
Hey, I already found it. Don't bother yourself )
It's Settings -> All Settings -> System Tab -> Power -> Battery Tab
And why would charging through USB be bad??
well, to make a good charge, you should leave the phone 5-6 hours (even though the led is green, I let it even up to 10 hours (charging at night)). When at PC, I don't think you all the time keep the phone pluged. In order to make a good charge, the battery has to be nearly empty (new phones work well without this waiting, but still, in time ... you see the differences). And I don't think anyone waits for his phone to be empty to connect via USB. .
I previously had an SE 850i (4 years used). Always charged when battery was empty, charged about 6 hours, and now, in stand-by, the battery resists 10-11 days. That is something ... 4 years!!!
It's normal, the battery heats up when under heavy use/if charged. It's nothing to worry about
Thanks. Had the same opinion, but still asked. never know ...

This is a myth for lithium rechargeables
Lithium type batteries do not mind when they are charged, and topping them up is perfectly fine. Topping up little but often is probably going to extend the life of the battery if anything and not reduce it, why? The biggest killer of lithium type batteries is heat, and giving it a charge from nothing to the maximum means it gets opportunity to get very warm which ages it, whereas lots of little charges will not up the temperature nearly as much.
Also another myth, you can't damage lithium batteries by overcharging them, this is because the current is stopped when they are fully charged as if it wasn't they would explode!
Lithium batteries also have a use by date, and as soon as they are made they start to age and reduce in capacity, so you are better off using and abusing the battery to get as much from it as you can, as age and heat will probably kill it first.

Phil
My device is very hot when charging... Much hotter than my Touch Pro2 gets
i experienced a few times that my compact V (topaz model from T-mobile) freezes while using navigation software in the car, meanwhile charging... When i took my phone from the holder, it was extremely hot! After holding it in front of the airco for a while and restarting, everything worked fine again. Anyone else with the same problem?
I found out, that using GPS uses the battery extremely.
It drains with about 300 mA, while normal usage ist at <70-80 mA and standby even a lot less.
Additionally I found out, that the device becomes sluggish due to processor-Usage of nearly 100% (while using gps).
That might be what you are seeing.
Regards Thorsten
talking about GPS usage, when ever i'm on iGo when i minimize it to make a phone call, it doesnt connects. i had to exit iGO n wait a while before it is available to dail. or a quick soft resets solve it.
any of u have the same problem?

Just as the title says is the power saver options like CPU and data connection really useful as well as the "sleep mode" option in power settings or are they making battery life worse?
If they are power savings options i don't see any reason why it would drain even more?

well according to this quote from another thread on xda in the sprint htc one forum,so I wasn't sure because it says it does make it worse.
"Power Saver mode will not save you any remarkable amount of battery unless you are maxing out the CPU or GPU (like playing games). Since what it does under the cover (besides what it advertises in the options) is downclock the CPU, this can actually be a detriment to battery life. It is better for battery life for the CPU to run at max speed for very short periods, and then go to sleep. It uses more power by running slower (and thus staying awake longer)."

Anyone?
I keep the power saver on most of the time. The main things I notice is that it dims the display (not really an issue if you work indoors) and it disables the wifi and data connections after periods of inactivity.
No real downsides (I'd be curious to hear other people's experiences). Sometimes receiving WhatsApp messages takes a couple extra minutes if the data/wifi connection goes to sleep.
Seems to give me good battery life - I average 15-18 hours, and that's including a fair amount of on-screen time and music/podcasts during the day.
I used power saver quite a bit in the 2 months after I got the phone but I don't use it anymore. In my experience it helped very little (as in added an hour or 2 maybe to overall life per charge). My baseline average battery life is 21hrs GSam tells me, and that's without power saver on at all (wifi, nfc, cellular always on and screen at 100%) and about 3hrs screen on time.
It may just be that, as was mentioned above, my use doesn't utilize the benefits of power saver because I don't often do cpu intensive things. It did run a bit cooler though. I also prevented the mode from diming the screen. I always (and still do) found that most of my power was going to the system (apps etc) @80% even with the screen maxed, and that I would lose about 20% overnight with our without power saver. So I stopped using it because : 1. It didn't improve MY USE 2. I didn't like the notification icon 3. I hear really good things about Battery Guru from experienced XDAers and the app seems more intelligent than power saver to me so I use that now. Unfortunately it's still too early to tell how much this will increase my average usage.
Regarding the issue of damaging your battery, the way it was brought up refers to the number of charge - discharge cycles a battery has. So only something that discharges the battery more quickly (so that you have to do another charge cycle more quickly) will shorten the battery's life. If nothing else, logically using power saver would not do this. It won't hurt the battery and may not hurt your usage (remember the GPU can still run at full clock for games), but I don't think it will help you much either based on my experience.

dont believe everything you see online. All it does it limit the CPU, as opposed to running 1700mhz, its capped at 1134mhz, this is not detrimental.
it takes power to make power, undervolting and downclocking processors has been repeatedly proven to assist and aid battery life.
it takes a certain balance or the two to get great results. Mind you the stock kernel is great but its adaptive. So dont be discouraged when seeing bad battery life initially.
If I leave my phone off charge overnight, I usually loose around 5%. If I turn powersaver on, I only loose 1-2%. This is with around 8-10 hours of no usage, with wifi on. It also turns off vibration feedback when using the back and home keys.
I've also noticed the phone to be slightly less responsive with power saver on. As far as I can tell, if you are concerned whether your battery will last you the few more hours you need, it will definitely help save power
It makes a difference and if you need the extra juice it will help you.
However, the amount of difference depends on your use.

Theoretically they should work together fine because Battery Guru studies what you do with your phone so that it can figure out what to prioritize and what to shut down - it adapts so it should adapt to the power saver situation. Underclocking the cpu shouldn't change what services it adjusts because you're still doing all the same things.
Battery Guru just finished "learning" on my phone yesterday so I don't know how good it is. But I lost 40% overnight for some reason which has never happened before. It's probably still adapting. Life seems to be better during use...
The comment above about the OS being adaptive is also very true, my first few charge cycles were dismal but they got better within a week (without power saver etc.)

Ya I'm using Juice Defender Plus on my HTC one running 4.1.2 for a few months now and I'm not sure if it's making too much of difference. Are you finding Battery Curu pretty decent?
I turned it off on my wife's HTC One. It was disabling data/wifi after several minutes inactivity, which caused FB Messenger to freak out and stay awake, which caused the battery to drain faster than if the data was just left on.

I used to have a higher drain, but after some research, I found out using betterbatterystats that google maps was waking up the phone often and preventing sleep. I corrected this by disabling "report from this device" in google maps settings.
Before this, I experienced similar battery drain with power saver on.
From experience, it's best to determine phone sleep time and app battery usage, and correct this to achieve the best life.
I'm currently able to get two days with light usage without power saver!

I've uninstalled BatteryGuru for the same reason
I'm relatively certain that for many people this is super old news, but I'd like to share this anyway just in case it helps anyone (and a bit because I'm just so impressed by how it works )
I've tried a few different power saving strategies on this phone and have been disappointed with all, including just keeping power saver on all the time. I would always lose 20-40% overnight no matter what I did. I should also clarify that it is not acceptable for me to just disable a bunch of things to get that drain under control. So one day I turned on power saver (everything checked off) and just turned off wifi, and I've been doing it ever since because now I only lose 5-10% over night maybe a strange thing to be excited about considering my other devices lose as little as 1% in that time with nothing turned off, but everything's relative.
I think now I'll try keeping wifi off and power saver on throughout the day and see what I get. Though I'm not sure I like the thought of data being turned off during the day when the screen isn't on...
For me at least this is the single best battery saving thing I've ever done on my One.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
What you mean by saying that you "turned on power saver (everything checked off)"? What Power Saver does if everything is checked off? I suppose like that it actually doing nothing. If you uncheck everything and turn it on isn't the same as turning Power Saver off?
Ok I have a Motorola Atrix HD running Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 and using the EB40 battery.
1. I would like to know what charger I should be using, I have the 850mA motorola charger that came with my phone, a 1amp pantech charger, a ONN 1.2amp charger and a 1.5amp off brand charger. Also how long should this battery take to charge?
2. I would like any tips or tricks to extend my battery life, my longest charge yet has lasted 26 hours of heavy use (im also running Juice Defender Ultimate) and I keep seeing people talking about getting 3-3 and a half days out of one charge.
3. Is there anyway to make my built in battery meter more accurate it doesnt seem to be reading this battery properly
On a side note, I accidently deep discharged my EB40 when i was running the initial charge out, and it was plugged and unplugged several times trying to get the phone to power back on, Im wondering if i damaged my battery and if so is there a way to fix it?
Sorry for the extremely long question any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. AHD could only pull 1A max. Beside good charger, you also need a good usb cable so that the power does not lost in transit. Install CurrentWidget to check how much power does your phone get while charging.
2. Minimum screen brightness, auto on/off data connection (LeanData app), undervolting? Battery consumption differs from phone to phone depending on how you use the phone, how good is your telco signal etc.
3. Perhaps you need to flash another rom? I'm on CM11 KitKat and the reading is fine. But battery life is not as good as stock JellyBean rom.
4. If your phone is dead after fully discharge, just leave it plugged in. after a while it will come to life.

3. Is that stable or nightly? I only run stable roms due to my phone being my only source of internet and i have no back up phone
4. Good to know thanks
Also on a 1A charger with quality cable CurrentWidget should be showing 1A(or 1000mA)? and were CurrentWidget shows battery current draw what is considered high?
sorry for all the question im kind of a noob to modding my phone i ran cyanogen mod on my OG Droid but never did any real modding on it phone ran faster and battery life actually increased, same on my AHD my battery life increased after flashing to cyanogenmod 10.1.3 i gained approx 3 hours over stock jellybean

Wow that LeanData app is amazing, It's a shame that can't get the EB40 battery because It couldn't ship to my country so I need to live with the EB20 one.
Juice Defender Ultimate controls Data on/off Sync Screen brightness and timeout sound profiles based on schedules, bluetooth and cpu governer and clock speed if your rooted theres also controls for gps and wifi but i never uses those, i paid like $7 for it but i think it was well worth it on EB20 and stock jellybean i was averaging 10-11 hours of heavy use which was way better than my out the box 6-7 when i flashed to cyanogenmod and ran that with juice defender it increased to 13-16 hours, after adding the EB40 battery my shortest charge has been 18.5 hours, i was realy hoping to hit the 30 hour mark with all the people talking about going 3 and a half days on 1 charge

1. EB40 is rated at 3200mAh (miliamp per hour). so in theory, a 1A charger will take 3.2 hours to fully charge it. a 2.1A charger will still take 3.2 hours. 0.85A charger will definitely take longer time. do correct me on this. and btw, AHD has the qualcomm quick charging feature built in. I'm guessing 3-4 hours to fully charge this phone from 0-100%.
2. Keep using JD if it already improves the battery life. when the phone gets 1-3 bars or in a place with low signal coverage, it will draw more power to get the coverage.
3. I think most KitKat rom based on the latest CM11 release are quite stable. you can read about them in the development threads.
Hello guys,
I'm using ARHD 6.0 with the newest kangaroo kernel on my incredible S.
While the phone is being plugged to a wall charger, it works a lot faster and much smoother. I've experienced other Roms that would lag while being charged.
How can it possibly be that the phone works better with a charger plugged in?
It really drives me crazy since the heat of the charge should affect negatively.
Placebo effect?
Hi,there. ARHD 6.0 is known for its stability plus performance and i think here it's all about power managment.
Modern gaming laptops with discrete graphics give only about 2/3 of their performance while working from battery.
In case of laptop it's a bios regulated feature and as far as i know it's not possible to affect it in the OS.
And in phone it may be some sort of kernel tweak which regulates performance and sets cpu to 100% while charging.
This may be the explanation of performance boost and high temperature in your device.
Try to measure performance in Antutu or smth like that. It's the only way to check it.
I've experienced the same on my phone across several ROMs, kernels, governors etc. I suspect my battery can't deliver enough power as it's quite worn. With a charger connected everything gets the power it demands.
I started suspecting this after I connected a charger and the digitizer stopped working, I had random freezes etc. When I checked the charger it was marked as "150mA", which is extremely low. When using a charger at >=700mA everything is smooth, so I suppose this makes sense. A new battery is in the mail so I'll find out soon
my new pixel 7 does not charge all the way up during the night, it usually stops at 40-50%

Power if off and charge.
If it still shows 50% charge return it.
Not acceptable, especially if the actual SOT reflects that.

hi
turn off the adaptive charging
I would return it immediately before you pass the window. I wanted to return mine for fingerprint reader issues, but I waited too long and now my only option is to swap it for a refurb device which is less than ideal.
Thats a good thing. Charging the battery to 100% stresses the battery, as does completely discharging it and reduces the longevity of the battery. I have mine set by ACCA to only charge to 90% and turn off at 5%.

Bump that low to at least 20% especially if you fast charge. It's the higher current load/temperature at the first 20% that causes the stress. It's important the battery is at least 72F at charge start, preferably 82-90F to avoid Li plating which will permanently degrade the cell if it occurs.
I aim for 40-80% usage range. That said on this heavily used device I expect about a 1.5 year battery life. Replacing batteries is just part of routine maintenance, no big deal.
While I always fast charge however I do midrange power cycling, what Li's prefer; it's less stressful. I'll frequently do 20% amounts too. What's convenient for me at the time. Rarely go above 90% as it's rather pointless and disproportionally increases charging time vs usage time.
Yeah, my current setup isnt perfect, but it avoids the extreme stresses while still offering me a charge for a full day.
However, my phones have only ever seen a 5% shutdown on a few occasions so there is no need to set a hard cutoff at 20%. It rarely gets that low and if it does, its because I cant charge it.
Typically I charge it in the car on way home from work, then when I go to bed. So the cycle throughout the day still is pretty ideal.
90->40%->65%->40%->90%

If you resign yourself to changing out the battery when it's degraded (80% of its original capacity) it's not a big deal.
A battery failure is a big deal though; one I had came close to damaging the display on my N10+. That battery was degraded, lasted less then 1.5 years. I got lucky that time... not going to push my luck again especially over a cheap repair like a battery replacement.
