Hi Guys
for a while i was wiping my internal storage before flashing a new rom. I would always use my sd card and dropbox so the internal storage wasnt a big deal to me. i decided to start leveraging the internal storage.
So my question is will not wiping internal storage in twrp before flashing a new rom affect the perfromance on my new rom even though i were to odin the stock fw right before? or is it a better idea to wipe internal ?

This is a touchy subject because people will tell you both ways to do it. If you don't have a MicroSD card then you don't need to wipe the internal storage because you would delete the ROM you would flash.
The only community-wide acceptable answer for when you should wipe internal storage is when you upgrade from like Kit-Kat 4.0 to Lollipop 5.0 or Lollipop 5.0 to Marshmallow 6.0 and so on.
I have my own opinion about this, but every response you will get here will be an opinion so I won't add mine to the mix.

Anyone used the V to backup and restore using CWM 6.0.1.2.
When doing mine, it reduced my internal memory to 3.7 GB rather than keeping it at 8GB.
Any ideas how ti get it back to the correct size?
Regards
Does anyone know how to completely delete partitions on the internal SD using adb or something?
I just want the full amount of memory to be visible again
Cheers
My internal storage got corrupted some time ago, wiping internal sdcard in recovery did solve my problem..
Why would you like to do it in adb?
I used CWM to create a backup, when it was 'freeing up space' it resized my internal SD card to 3.71 GB (used to be 8GB).
Ive tried a format in recovery already, but the size does not change, i want to know if there is a way to look at / manage the internal SD card partitions to see what CWM has done, and then format or restore it from there.
Cheers
.. Ok so u can't fill up your internal sdcard above 3.7gb right?
idk much about partitions..
But what if u mount the internal storage as MSC mode (instead of MTP?)
Correct, the internal card is just not showing the right available space.
I have not found a way to mount the internal SD card as MSC yet, been looking, so i could possibly then use mini partition tool on it.
I remember Doomload had a way for the Xperia S, could check to see if it works for the V.
i´m not sure but i have read somewhere that only 3,7 Gb is user available
http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=1398673
that´s in swedish can be difficult to understand but there is stated about it, i dunno if it is correct
Hmmm, i actually never noticed that, could be right all along then.. thanks for that, ill have a scout round to confirm if thats the case. Seems strange, why would 4GB be required on an SD card. Either way, at least i know it's ok now, haha.
Regards
[EDIT]
Confirmed, 3.7 available

So I bricked my phone and ended up having to FXZ to the OTA JB update. Once I did I found that the internal memory just isnt there. There is still 4GB for the apps but no storage and backup will not work because it can not find internal storage. It also will not show up on my computer like normal. How do I get it to show back up?
thecodydavis was able to format his internal storage, after so many reboots, the phone ask him to reformat the storage space. And I believe reformat it will lose all the data in the storage, but you will have internal storage back.

I have the same problem except I need to recover the data. I am still trying to make an image of /dev/block/mmcblk1p26 (storage memory block) and hopefully data recovery tool works on the image.
Thanks! Pretty much what happened! Problem solved!
how can i wipe sd card and get my space back ?
when i upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 my sd card dissapeared
i had it all backed up like it says before going to 4.2.2 so all good !
i already located it in data/media or somethin like that.
So i just need to know how to wipe my whole sd card safley withou touching the rom installed i can restore all my data no problem
how do i wipe the extra 6 gigs thats in data/media
Install rom of choice then use recovery to format /sdcard. It's found in advanced options in cwm. Not sure where to find it in twrp.
Hi guys!
Last week I flashed @bagyusz's 5.0.2 ROM. After that day i noticed something. When i connect the phone to the PC it only shows me external sd card.
And also i looked it on recovery and there was only one storage (sdcard0) and actually it was my external sd card. I think the ROM disabled my internal storage and recovery sees my external as main storage.
I can't access my internal storage and i want to install a new rom with PhilZ recovery. When i choose "clean for a new ROM" option, what will it delete? Will it wipe internal or external? nd i have important things in my external (photos, music, documents...) will it touch them?

Please Please PLEASE read Rom´s OP
In bagyusz roms internal storage is merged with /data partition so no media storage , so external sd card is only media storage
and in philz recovery option to "clean for a new ROM" just wipes data, cache, system it will NOT touch your external SD-cadr
The 5.0.2 of bagyusz rom has the feature of merging the internal storage and /data. You may search in his thread and find how to disable this feature, and that involves modifying framework.res. So if you're not familiar with android development, I propose CM11 nightlies for they've been enough stable for daily use. Lollipop is still in test now, you know.
Hi,
It's my first time rooting/flashing and I have 2 questions
1) where on the phone should I keep the ROM and gaps files,
On the SD card or can I leave them on the internal memory?
2) using twrp (this is the installation not a ROM update) what wipes to i need to do, is cache and dalvik and data good enough ? Or also system and internal storage? (And will it not delete my nandroid backup and my rom and gapps?)
Thanks
Hi,
to answer your questions:
1.) save rom and gapps on external sd card. You can also save them on internal memory but when you wipe everything those files are gone too, unless you exclude internal storage.
2.) If you come from stock it is recommended to to wipe everything, even data and internal storage. You can move those files (rom, gapps) back onto internal storage in recovery. Nandroid backups should be saved either on external SD card or PC, not on the internal storage. One wrong wipe and your backup is gone.
If you want to flash a custom rom there is no need to root your phone - just flash a recovery and you'e good to go
