I9305 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi,
It's my first time rooting/flashing and I have 2 questions
1) where on the phone should I keep the ROM and gaps files,
On the SD card or can I leave them on the internal memory?
2) using twrp (this is the installation not a ROM update) what wipes to i need to do, is cache and dalvik and data good enough ? Or also system and internal storage? (And will it not delete my nandroid backup and my rom and gapps?)
Thanks

Hi,
to answer your questions:
1.) save rom and gapps on external sd card. You can also save them on internal memory but when you wipe everything those files are gone too, unless you exclude internal storage.
2.) If you come from stock it is recommended to to wipe everything, even data and internal storage. You can move those files (rom, gapps) back onto internal storage in recovery. Nandroid backups should be saved either on external SD card or PC, not on the internal storage. One wrong wipe and your backup is gone.
If you want to flash a custom rom there is no need to root your phone - just flash a recovery and you'e good to go

How can I clean the internal SD card of my Note?

Everytime I flash a new ROM, my internal SD card stays almost intact.
How can I clean it (Format it) and flash a new Rom?
Thanks.
Make sure you do a backup.
Settings -> Storage -> Erase USB Storage
Thanks.
or you can format it in windows
you can also use the app sd maid to keep sd cards clean and clutter free, its a very useful tool for flashaholics.
Thanks for all the usefull info.
I want to install the new ICS 4.0.4 rom but I want to make like a factory install.

Backup on internal SD

Hey,
I hope anyone can give me an advice for my 'problem. It is the first time for me rooting my device... but I want CM 10^^
I have used unlockroot to root my device (http://www.unlockroot.com/). Then I installed the ROM Manager. Flashed Clockworkmod..Then I tried to make a backup.. Somehow the ROM Manager makes the backup of my system on the internal SD card into the folder 'clockworkmod -->backup' and not on my 16GB external SD Card.
Question:
1) Shouldn't clockworkmod be on my external SD-Card?
2) If I wipe everything before I install a new ROM. Will I loose my backup?
3) Should I care that the backup is on my internal SD?
Thanks for any help!!!
Here is what Clockworkmod shows me, when doing a backup:
ClockworkMod Recovery c5.0.2.0
Waiting for SD Card to mount
SD Card mounted...
Verifiying SD Card marker...
SD Card marker not found...
Checking Internal SD Card marker...
ROM Manager Version 5.0.2.1
October 26, 2012
SD Card space free: 3523MB
Backing up boot image
Backing up recovery image...
Backing up system...
Backing up data...
Backing up .android_secure...
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Here are te steps I have taken:
1.) Install drivers ( I am on v20Q stock ROM)
2.) Root mit unlockroot
3.) Update SuperUser
4.) Download ROM Manager
5.) Flash Clockworkmod
5) Backup with ROM Manager
1) Go here, install the external version of 5.0.2.8, problem solved.
2 & 3) No, wiping does not touch the internal sd-card. However, some other procedures do, like smartflash, so it's best to have the backups on the external card.

Thanks! wow, that was fast!
I am a noob. Therefore my question: How do I install the new clockworkmod? Do I push "Install ROM from SD Card" in ROM Manager and then choose the .zip file? Should I do any wipe before?
Thx!!!!
by the way: I do not care if my backup is on my internal SD or external. So do I need to have the backup on my external SD if I install a new ROM? (I mean I can make a copy of the backup on my PC...)
Just dowload the archive in thread I linked to, unpack it, connect your phone (debugging enabled) and run the external .bat-file. That's it.
No, you don't need to have the backups on your external.

how to wipe sd card

how can i wipe sd card and get my space back ?
when i upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 my sd card dissapeared
i had it all backed up like it says before going to 4.2.2 so all good !
i already located it in data/media or somethin like that.
So i just need to know how to wipe my whole sd card safley withou touching the rom installed i can restore all my data no problem
how do i wipe the extra 6 gigs thats in data/media
Install rom of choice then use recovery to format /sdcard. It's found in advanced options in cwm. Not sure where to find it in twrp.

[Q] Recovery sees my external storage as sdcard0

Hi guys!
Last week I flashed @bagyusz's 5.0.2 ROM. After that day i noticed something. When i connect the phone to the PC it only shows me external sd card.
And also i looked it on recovery and there was only one storage (sdcard0) and actually it was my external sd card. I think the ROM disabled my internal storage and recovery sees my external as main storage.
I can't access my internal storage and i want to install a new rom with PhilZ recovery. When i choose "clean for a new ROM" option, what will it delete? Will it wipe internal or external? nd i have important things in my external (photos, music, documents...) will it touch them?

Please Please PLEASE read RomĀ“s OP
In bagyusz roms internal storage is merged with /data partition so no media storage , so external sd card is only media storage
and in philz recovery option to "clean for a new ROM" just wipes data, cache, system it will NOT touch your external SD-cadr
The 5.0.2 of bagyusz rom has the feature of merging the internal storage and /data. You may search in his thread and find how to disable this feature, and that involves modifying framework.res. So if you're not familiar with android development, I propose CM11 nightlies for they've been enough stable for daily use. Lollipop is still in test now, you know.

To clean internal card?

Hello,
I believe I have a problem with internal memory card... Full wiping not working sometimes (says it cannot mount '/system'), and time to time new image installation stops on the extraction phase...
Is there any way to format internal card except TWRP wiping?..
Or maybe there's some other way to reliably clean up the intermal card?
Please advice.
Format from settings and just delete everything on phone. Let phone boot then Odin. Alternatively twrp has option to wipe internal, just be sure you have backup and new rom on external before you wipe.
