Hello fellow friends
I am actually running 4.4.4 KK Rooted, with DRM Keys, Locked BootLoader and etc, just like this step-by-step guides you, i did follow all the steps.
I been using it for a few months and now, i feel like updating to the Lollipop. What EXACTLY do i have to do? ( I was thinking about, FLASHING a pre-rooted LP rom via recovery, then, after that, turn off the phone and THEN flash a FULL NON-PRE ROOTED rom via Flash Tools and exclude "SYSTEM" while flashing it.)
Am i thinking the correct? IF no, what should i do to keep my device rooted and update it from KK to LP?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This is actually not needed
Do Steps 27-32 - And select all four checkboxed listed at "Include" in PRFC tool.
With this you have a FULL FW, rooted and DualRec. - Custom Rec. flashable - No need to flash non rooted stuff afterwards...
Alright, thanks mate, i will give it a try!

You mean, all i gotta do then, after creating the pre-rooted full fw, i just gotta flash it via recovery, and Wipe Factory Defaults? Or just dalvik and cache will do? PS I dont mind if i lose data, got all backed up on PC.

Exactly - But Full Wipe needed because KK to LP change...
First time I rooted (only some days ago - new Z3C ) I did al the steps - But I'm learning and reading fast
If you include Kernel, Fota, Modem, LTA you have a Full FW. Flashable directly over KK...
This is what I did the second time I rooted... (Because of my own dumpness I lost root and had to do rooting again)
In the known HowTo rooting thread several users reported this also. Just read there last few pages...
Your question was asked maaany times there
Note: There is a new Version of PRFCreator available -> V1.0

I have rooted 23.1.A.1.28, and want to update to the latest firmware without losing my home screens icon arrangement, how may I achieve that? I am hesitant to update because I may lose user data and the home screen arrangements.
Thanks!

Thanks for your answer, but what do you mean "full wipe" ? If i do factory defaults i will lose root access i think, heard that after flashing the pre-rooted fw.zip via recovery, all i gotta wipe is dalvik, cache and maybe data!

Yes - you will loose it but only if you reboot after wipe. Full wipe is system/data/cache/dalvik, - Factory reset is Data/cache/dalvik,
If you stay in TWRP you are save. Actually wiping system is not needed... Those pre-rooted zips (as well as most stock bases custom ROMs available here on XDA (SLiM, Moly82's, etc) with superSU and DualRec (and I think you wanna use one of those) including an complete system.ext4 img which overwites sytem partition anyway....
And yes - after flashing via zip cache/dalvik wiping is OK... Data not needed...
And Data is almost empty anyway after full wipe/factoy reset from the beginning...
Don think to much. Make an TWRP Backup of SYSTEM, DATA, TA, KERNEL and go ahead. Things are easier than they look like....

Hey!
So I have decided I can't wait any more and want to put the JB ROM on my device :victory:.
Currently I have Cocore 4.1 kernel + stock GB ROM.
I want to upgrade to the latest LQ4 from this thread.
What would be the right order to upgrade:
1) Install new kernel for JB (Does it matter if it has CWM or TWRP? Since the LQ4 on this thread is said to only be update-able with CWM, and I actually like TWRP better)
2) Enter recovery --> Full wipe / factory reset
3) Install ROM
Or
1) Enter recovery --> Full wipe / factory reset
2) Install ROM (remember I am currently using CoCore 4.1 for GB with TWRP)
3) Flash new Kernel for JB
If a full wipe / factory reset isn't needed, which wipes are needed?
Thanks again!

1. That thread is just for deodexing your JB ROM. It is not a ROM. There are just deodexed files from system/app and system/framework.
2. Non of above are the way of upgrading from GB to JB.
3. Use this.
4. Do factory reset after.
Thanks again shut_down! :good:

Oh, I thought the official JB ROM is already deodexed, no?
As for the wiping whats the difference between factory reset, cache wipe and dalvik wipe?

Every stock is odexed. You deodex it to get posibilities of using more modified stuff.
Factory reset wipes all your apps, that you installed with Play store (or any other way), and all your data. Making your phone like it was when you bought it. Cache and dalvik chache do not touch any data, but sometimes when you change something it is suggested that you do it (like change some system app or somethig like that).
So you better backup your installed apps with Titanium Backup, backup your phonebook and things like that. Before you do factory reset, that you can restore it on JB later.
Thanks!
By using ODIN to upgrade, does it also wipe my current kernel to the stock one?
Meaning I can later put TZ, CoCore or watever I want the usual DD flash way (after rooting off course)?

Yes, Odin and stock JB firmware will overwrite old 2.3.6. kernel, and install new 3.x.x. And you can install any JB custom kernel with DD later when you root.
Thanks again mate!
I had my phone stolen the other day, but I got it back (thanks Cerberus). I want to do a complete system wipe (as in deleting current firmware and reinstalling, not just factory reset) as I'm nervous about what they might have done to it, and because it still seems a bit slow, even after a Factory reset, Cache wipe, and dalvik wipe. I have already rooted using method 1.A. from this forum, so I have the "Wipe Data-Cache-System-Preload" option in PhilZ's bootloader (which I'm assuming does what I'm looking for). I would like to use the firmware on the Sammobile website for my country (Chile (ENTEL)), but I have a couple questions I haven't been able to find an answer to.
1. Is what I'm doing safe? Can you use the Sammobile Firmware's after doing a "Wipe Data-Cache-System-Preload"? Will it raise the counter or change the fact that I have a safe kernel currently?
2. Will I lose my current root access and/or PhilZ's bootloader? If so, is this a problem at all? Will I be able to re-root with the same method, or will that mess something up considering that the bootloader had already been modified the first time I rooted?
Sorry for being an overly anxious noob, but I just barely got my phone back, and I don't want to brick it.

Yes you can download the firmware from sammobile or even from here (if it exists here):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Yes, what you are doing is safe. the method for flashing stock rom is also in the above link. it will not raise the counter, you will lose root and would be back to stock kernel and there is no problem in that.
Yes you can flash philz kernel again once you are done flashing stock rom.
Edit: flash .zip file for philz kernel after flashing rom again to avoid raising counter.
Ok thanks! Is this process of re-installing the firmware going to actually delete the old firmware first? As opposed to just write over it? Will it have the same effect as the "Wipe Data-Cache-System-Preload" option in PhilZ kernel?

it is the process of over writting if you do not clear up the data or system or preload (which you already did and if the rom is non wipe rom). As you have cleaned up data, system, preload and rest it is the process of reinstalling the firmware as there is no ROM to boot to at that point (i.e once you have cleaned up everything).
So in the thread you linked to it gives these instructions:
Installation
1.a Pre installation : (For clean installation, optional)
- Make backup with Titanium Backup or other similiar app.
- First wipe cache and data
And you are saying I should do this instead:

- First "Wipe Data-Cache-System-Preload"
And then continue with the rest of the process?

if you are rooted already and have backed up apps+data (non-system apps) with TBP you can follow any of the method (preferably 2nd) and once you are done flashing, root again using philz kernel and restore apps+data using TBP. Also if you go to philz recovery and then to wipe data/factory reset you will also find option for clean up to install new rom (something like that). Usually this method is often used if you are flashing custom rom but you can still do it even if you are flashing the stock rom (even same) again. Under mount/storage you can also mount USB storage while connected to pc and delete everything from internal sd before flashing too.

It is called "Wipe Data-Cache-System-Preload." This is exactly the information I wanted, thanks so much again!
As the title states, is there a way to flash a new rom without being tied down to a PC / laptop?
Bootloader's unlocked, rooted, it's strange how with this phone we're forced to stay locked down to a PC.
Have never flashed anything from the Original Dev section on this phone yet, would that be the same method as normal rom's like monx's and IHackers?
Cheers.
huh? TFTs are for returning to stock ROM and/or kernel and baseband, custom ROMs come in ZIP files which are flashable in recovery. What I do is download the ROM zip on my phone and flash it straight after via recovery, no need for a computer at all.

FTF's are not just for returning to stock, not at all, they're used to flash rom's too as the kernel and baseband needs to be flashed also.
Check out monx's thread, the instructions for install states to flash the rom and then without allowing a reboot, flash kernel and system (afaik)
Simply flashing the rom wouldn't be enough without flashing those files via flashtool.
What i'm trying to ascertain is do I have to do this every time as it's a pain in the backside.
Quote from Monx
LOCKED & UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
BACKUP any critical data to microSD
Copy this rom zip package to microSD
Reboot in recovery, (do nandroid backup), do factory reset & install rom until finish
IGNORE RECOVERY INSTALLATION WARNING. SELECT NO & PROCEED AT THE END OF RECOVERY IF USING CWM RECOVERY
Skip (x) steps if u already running same base firmware with latest monxDIFIED base rom. Else, proceed.
(x) Turn off device. (Hold power button + vol up until vibrates 3 times) [or use recovery turn off device option, if any]
(x) Flash latest Sony's firmware (FTF) matching current latest monxDIFIED base rom using latest flashtools. UNCKECK all WIPE options and CHECK only SYSTEM & TA in EXCLUDE options.
(x) Disconnect USB cable & turn on phone. Done.
Notice how I write "and/or kernel and baseband"?
FTF only necessary if changing bases, don't need to flash every time going from ROMs on same base.

Because you wouldn't be performing a full wipe right?
Thing is I would never do a dirty flash over another rom, you're asking for problems if you do, so in which case I'm guessing that I'd need to use an FTF file to replace the files needed that aren't flashed with the rom right?
Thanks by the way.
Reason i'm asking all this is because this is the first phone that i've had were i've needed to be tied down to a PC to flash a rom, it's a bit crap really.

I used to have the HTC One X which required the same trouble-some computer steps.
The kernel and baseband don't even get affected when you do a full wipe, they're separate from the system, data, and cache partitions which gets wiped. Basically the stripped FTF holds the stock kernel and baseband needed to get compatible mobile signal and this only needs to be done once moving from base to base.
Going to and from ROMs with same base:
1. Full wipe
2. Flash ROM
ps. some ROMs flash their own kernel during ROM install i.e iHackers.

Nice one m8, that's put an end to my misery, cheers for that, makes a lot of sense now, i wasn't aware of how Sony rom's were flashed, it's strange as the bootloader is unlocked? What more is needed lol.
As for the one x, that's the only HTC i skipped and glad i did apparently they had a lot of problems with flashing and stuff, S-OFF.
Anyway, thanks m8.
FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app
With the amazing work by @Chainfire we are blessed with a what seems to be almost perfect replacement for SafeStrap. Yes, this is still in Beta and you should go into this expecting to soft brick your phone every time when flashing something with this. That's why we need some brave souls to test the limits of FlashFire for our poor device.
If you would like to help contribute to see what we can flash with this application here are a couple tutorials on flashing by @muniz_ri
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aoca-5-0-keeproot-t3076803
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-to-enable-native-tethering-g900aoc4-t3078561
If you come across anything that you can flash from the smallest things or even ROMs that you have found compatible please share the knowledge here and I will try to put it in an index that others can see through this beta testing and early phase of Android Lollipop for the G900A.
ROMs that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
G900A_OC4 5.0 Stock Rooted Android Lollipop by @muniz_ri
Miscellaneous things that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
Native Tethering by @muniz_ri
300 Fonts for Lollipop and KitKat by @nitol
Titanium Backup's update.zip file
Remote Play Installer
Notes:
If your device stays at the black screen when you try to flash something simply pull the battery out. Then, boot into recovery and wipe the cache partitions. That should allow you to boot your device again after failure.
If you find yourself in a boot loop and downgrading back to NCE you can restore your 5.0 backup while on 4.4.2 (if you made one like you should have) by following my tutorial in the following link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60095108&postcount=21
Here is what I know so far about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices:
- Will run on Android v4.x.x/5.0.x.
- Will not trip your Knox Warranty Flag.
- Will flash ROM's (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- No AROMA installer ROM's.
- Caution! FF flashes to the boot partition, i.e. flashing custom kernels will result in soft brick!
- You can drop a Full Odin .tar or .zip file containing the raw images onto your device and it will flash system, kernel, cache, and recovery (will not flash modem, non-hlos, or bootloader) (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can flash the remaining partitions via a .zip at the same time or via your PC using Odin.
- Flashes .tars with unsigned images, e.g. system.img.ext4, modem.bin. (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can also flash individual (un-.tar'd) images, e.g. recovery.img, boot.img.
- Flashes .zip files, e.g. mod's, SuperSu Update.zips, etc (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- Makes Backups of and Restores all partitions.
- Wipes partitions.
- Injects Root.
I will add here as I test and learn more.
Also want to add a note of caution....if you are a noob and don't have much experience with these things don't rush in. Best to sit back until safe and responsible guides are created. I for one am not at all sympathetic to those that don't take the time to read and understand before jumping in.

One of my questions about FlashFire is will it work on encrypted phones? My work phone is Verizon GS5 and SafeStrap would not work because of my encryption, so I'd be very interested in updating that phone without losing root if it will work. Thanks for all your work!
I attempted to flash Alliance ROM 7.1 from the International Forums.
My Steps:
1. Downgrade to NCE
2. Root
3. SuperSU
4. Install FlashFire
5. Set up FlashFire in the following order;
- Wipe
- Flash Partitions and Bootloader
- Flash Alliance ROM
Everything looked to be working perfectly, but it was getting stuck on the second boot screen. Going to try it again, but after I finish installing Stock Rooted 5.0 again. Maybe it will work then. Only one way to figure out.
Great thread. I'll have a deodexed build up in the next few days then start adding mods and working on other things

Tried to flash Allience in zip/ota and after it wipes it says that it is installing the .zip file for a second then it stops and reboots. Could this be a bug from FlashFire or the ROM not compatible?
Maybe try a dirty flash of the ROM?
I grab a stock ROM directly from G900F, make G900A boot.img and system.img.ext4 into tar.md5. Flash as package in FireFlash along with G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions_wOA1_BL.zip. Works out pretty well. Just need to disable KNOX with Titanium Backup (for some reason SuperSU doesn't detect KNOX being present) and use Root Explorer to get csc through.
However haven't figured out how to enable VoLTE yet.

That is some very useful information. Can't wait to give it a go tomorrow! Time for some rest.
Do you have SQLite Editor? Maybe VoLTE can be implemented though it.

A general principle to keep in mind is when flashing ROM's at the very least the kernel needs to match the system, i.e. 5.0 system requires the G900A Stock 5.0 kernel, 4.x system requires the G900A Stock 4.x kernel. The matching G900A Stock non-hlos will likely also be required in order for the ROM to work correctly.
I finally managed to get the font package by @nitol to work. The first time I ended up with a bootloop, but then I tried wiping dalvik and cache and flashing. Worked like a charm! Updated it in the OP for the index.

Hi guys, i know that we just have MM update for 9208 TW.
If this is previously rooted phone, will there be batt drain after update?
If yes, how to root to fix as non of the forum has info on routing MM 9208.
Thanks!

I did not face any battery drain (previously rooted and Knox tripped) when i followed the following steps:
1. Take backup of ALL DATA
2. Download ODIN flash-able file of MM for Taiwan from sammobile.
3. Add the file in AP section.
4. Selected 3 options. Auto Reboot, F.Reset Time and NAND Erase All.
5. Flashing successful
6. Go into stock recovery and Wipe Cache Parititon and then Wipe Data/Factory Reset and Reboot.
Report here if it works for you. DO NOT RESTORE APPS but re-install.
It worked for me and most of the users. I guess Samsung might've provided a fix to this in this ROM's kernel.

It is usually suggested to do a CLEAN installation when doing an ODIN flash (including Internal Storage which is done only through NAND ERASE ALL). Post your battery consumption/drain details once you are done analyzing. :good:
