question about ICS full wipe!

Just to make sure that I dont brick my note.
Im currently on costume ics rom. Ive tried several but they are very unstable and I have a feeling its bcuz Im flashing non wipe over other ics roms.
I would like to install a ics costume rom but do full wipe first.
Is it correct that if I flash my kernel to abyss 4.2, then I can do full wipe and install an ics costume rom without messing my note?
Ps: sorry if its been answered before...

1st way :
1. Flash Abyss note 4.2 Kernel
2. reboot into recovery | DO NOT REBOOT SYSTEM
3. Do the 3 Wipes | Data, Cache and Dalvik
4. Install your ics rom... follow the exact instructions.
2nd Way .
1. Use PC ODIN to flash a GB ROM
2. r00t it
3. 3 wipes in the GB CWM
4. Install your ICS ROM following the exact instructions.

[Q] Unsure on How to install Paranoid Android

Hey everyone.
I am running stock ics 4.0.3 , with Hydrocore kernel also my device is rooted and have CWM mod.
Im just wondering how i go about getting Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via ParanoidAndroid custom ROM.
Using the download off the rom on the site:

Since you are on Hydracore it is safe to wipe. But just to be sure just take a nandroid backup, by Booting in to recovery
Selecet Backup & restore--> Select Backup & do a nandroid backup Then just follow the installation procedure below
Keep both the ROM & Gapps file on your SD card
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Go to Advanced - > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Install Zip from SD Card--> Select either internal card or SD card (external sd ) based on where you kept the file-->Install the zip file of the ROM
Same way Select & install the Gapps package
Go Back & wipe Cache Partion & Dalvik Cache once again
Reboot & you are Paranoid...:good:

the best advice I can just offer you is to go to the respective Paranoid Android ROM thread and post this question there. There many people there as well willing to help you. Or you can wait for someone who has PA already on their device and perhaps they can give you some nice info on how to go about installing PA on your phone.
sorry, I can't do much help on you as I'm not using JB for now.

You can flash any custom rom if you are on safe kernel, hydracore is safe and you can simply boot into cwm recovery and flash the rom zip followed by gapps.

My phone is now stuck on the boot logo for paranoid androd. How do i fix this , it will not boot?

You havent done full wipe or wiped cache/dalvik, probably.

I wiped the wiped both of the cache including the dalvik , i havent wipe/factory reset my phone , do i need to do that?

Yes you need to factory reset when coming from another rom that is not aosp based, i.e stock gb/ics.

I think you need to read instructions to the point before carrying them out. I had posted you the method for installation of PA which so far as I know is the correct one coming from any non AOSP based ROM. Pls. do follow the instructions. In case you are in doubt just ask for a reconfirmation.
Also any ROM developer will have the instructions posted in the OP thread, which you should definitely follow.
As others have told you, do a full wipe coming from a non AOSP based ROM..

By the Way if your problem is solved just change the OP title to Solved..

In regards to doing a full wipe: When doing the same process a couple of weeks back, coming from a stock ICS rom to PA i read you need to do a full wipe.

do you guys consider wipe/factory reset to be sufficient or is it a good idea to do this manual format of the /system/ /data/ and /cache/ partitions as per the above guide?
I was in a bit of doubt on that one at the time, so i did it anyway to be on the safe side and it all worked fine.

OK, just to be sure I want to make everything straight... So if a have Hydracore kernel and a non-AOSP rom (for example ClassicRom V5) I can flash ParanoidAndroid? Even without AOSP rom? Just having Hydracore kernel and non-AOSP rom I can install ParanoidAndroid safely? I just have to do a Full wipe, then flash paranoid, flash Gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot and thats it? Thanks in advance for the answer

[Q] CWM Restore after flashing custom ROM

Hi there,
I have a rooted N7000 running original Android v 2.3.6
I want to flash (test) it with a custom ROM.
I made a full backup of my current system (via CWM backup)
Now, when I flash a (new Android 4) custom ROM, will it then be possible to restore the old v2.3.6 image that I made, using CWM?
Other question: Do I need to take care of what type Kernal version I have
I have 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566
Baseband-version is N7000XXkk5

nothing to worry about, that is what backup is intended to do.
the only thing you have to watch that you're on safe kernel like philZ when wiping data in stock ics or jb (read sticky threads)
example: if you are on philz kernel and runing ics or jb, when you restore your backup of gb, you restore your gb kernel, system, data etc, just like backing home

OK, Thanks for the reply. So if I understand correctly:
1. I make a backup of my current ROM (Image via CWM) and put it in a safe place.
2. I can flash any custom ROM, and test/play with them.
3. Afterwards I can put back my old ROM again via CWM restore.
4. Reboot, and I'm back in the old state.
Is this right?
Can I flash ROMs by using CWM also (using zip files) or do I need to flash, using Odin?
I actually do not understand your remark about philZ, can you explain a bit more about what that means.

Since you are going to try custom rom, you need not to worry about emmc brickbug, since they will be using a safe kernel..but double check before flashing...so, if you are on Stock ICS kernel, you should NOT wipe/factory reset..if you do, you will brick your phone..you can just go through couple of sticky threads to know abt emmc brickbug, if you are not aware of that..whatever the steps you have mentioned above are correct..but when you flash a custom rom, follow the instructions mentioned in the Custom rom OP...

1. Yes, copy your /clockworkmod to your pc (just for double safety) dont cut it or move it, you need it on your internal sd card always, if you wanted to restore it again... and dont rename it (you will end up with message md5 missmatch!)

or hydracore (not working on TW JB, but works on all other) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
have built in CWM 6.x.x.x , You can recognize them by the gray background in CWM recovery. (there is no need to install independet CWM or something else, like you do on your stock GB kernel)
They are built in almost every custom rom, and these kernel are safe for wipe.
3.1 . So if you flashed new custom TW ics or jb, and after playing with them, you want back to your nandroid backup, just go boot in recovery (now you see a grey background CWM6) do all the wipes (in my experience the best way is: (advanced > wipe dalvik cache, go back > wipe cache, then wipe/data factory reset, then go into mounts and storage > format cache,system,data and preload , dont format emmc and sd card. go back into backup/restore > restore from (internal sd card or some other place depends on where you place your backup)
4. of course, when youo see a message backup complete, reboot it

[Q] JB to GB downgrade failure?

So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?

Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe

It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.

But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?

I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default

How to downgrade from KitKat to jelly bean 4.1.2 through recovery

You can only flash custom ROMs based on touchwiz ROMs through recovery like sweetrom or aryamod .... or use Odin to flash original Samsung firmware because you can't use recovery to flash original firmware.

Or he just has to flash kernel for stock based ROMs and then flash some 4.0.x ROM.

I am a noob and have installed Omni ROM KitKat 4.4.4 on my Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.
I am not able to effectively the features that were available on my note ealrier, not I am able to backup contacts from Titanium BAck Up.
I would like to revert back to the original firmware jellybean 4.1.2 . Is downgrading going to brick my mobile , can some one help me with this .

Downgrading to JB is as easy as booting into recovery, wiping data, booting into download mode and flashing the stock rom
or booting into recovery and flash a custom TW rom or restore the backup if you made any before flashing Omni.

I have a non-rooted phone upgraded with what Samsung provided (several OTA, then Kies to 4.1.2, N7000XXLTC).
I'd like to downgrade to stock 4.0.4. My steps are:
1. wipe cache & data from Recovery (would a Factory Reset do both?);
2. use Odin to flash the ROM;
3. never do any sort of wipe again.
Is that correct?

Steps are correct... Use the recovery option to wipe data / factory reset ..instead of the settings menu.

but I have a issue here. I had made a backup of my 4.1.2 rom in cwm, and flashed a 4.4.3 omnibus rom,, after flashing omni I have twrp recovery rather cwm recovery , so I am unable to restore cwm backup
do I need to flash cwm again ,?
or any other ways
omni rom draining battery very fast, and it made a dead battery

Yes you will need to get CWM.. flash raw or philz kernel and then reboot recovery, wipe and restore the backup.

Let me share my own experience
Whenever i wanna go back to jellybean from kitkat :
1. Do clean wipe
2. Flashing official gingerbread rom
3. And then installing jellybean..
I dont know why but whenever flashing jellybean after do a clean wipe it never works so what i do is flashing gingerbread first hehe

I'm on 4.4.4 DU Rom.. The phone got hanged after I enabled the allow mock location option. Then the phone got stuck at the Samsung Logo screen. I went to recovery and tried doing factory reset, but it failed with error as unable to mount /data. After that recovery mode is not available, but I can go in Download mode. So, i tried to install JB 4.1.2 - N7000XXLTA via Odin. But the process gets failed after 'NAND write start'!!!
Any solution???
